Why aren't you? With any sort of advancement system, incentives need to be put in place to get people to venture away from their safe little starting areas and put their characters in grander, more-dangerous adventures. For doing so, they are compensated with greater rewards and more opportunities. By all means, if someone wants to play it safe and hang around in the blues their entire life, that's fine. No one forces you to advance. But let's face it. This is an RP based on adventure and exploration. In the spirit of the RP, we urge people to push forward rather than stay behind. This sort of system is nothing new to video games, roleplay, or even real life. |

There's plenty to explore and fully immerse yourself with in the Blues for a good long time. However, due to the fact that so much here is limited simply by "get to grandline", it becomes a race just to get over reverse mountain and almost completely skip opportunities for adventure that are more than present in the Blue. Then just hang around the first few islands of whatever route you end up on. It really leaves it quite bland, because of a silly notion that you need to prove yourself by getting out of the "kiddy pool" Blues to really have grand adventures. If you want canon reasons as to why things are the way they are, then just look at canon. Plain and simple. I'm not saying no one in the blues has ever had haki or roku, but they are few and far in between and usually just visiting from the Grand Line (like Mihawk). Or you'll come across a guy like Captain Kuro who has such an unrefined idea of what he is doing that he wouldn't even be a viable example to learn from. edit: I'm not saying you can't have awesome or dangerous adventures in the blues, but -unlike the blues- the grand line has a constant looming threat hovering over everyone's heads. I still refer to my previous point of this being the setting of One Piece. The central plot of the site is to find one piece, i.e. reach the end. Edited by Chips, Feb 17 2013, 08:44 PM.

There'd be no point in having a Grand Line if everything attainable was accessible in the Blues. Barely anyone would want to go and it'd be a Blues campfest. Why spend money on a ship, be restricted to a certain path and have to(not really) get a navigator in the GL you can go wherever the hell you wanted in the Blues at any time? And also roflmao at your asspull of a comment on Garps and Shanks. Two guys who are confirmed to have been Grand Line and New World-level pirates way before even chapter one in the One Piece timeline. And travelling across the Calm Belt has definitely NEVER been seen before. It's not like they could have learned their abilities in the Grand Line and then come back. No way! Neither of them have the resources or power to do that. I had something to say about adventuring and going out, but I think Dark and Chips covered it. |

That's Luffy's goal. I don't understand why I should carbon copy the protagonist of One Piece's motives for what I want to do. If I want to go learn haki and train while exploring the obscure islands in the blues people ignore in their rush to get to the GL, I don't see why I should be limited because I don't want to "fine da wan pises". |

Think of it this way. Haki and other stuff is something only people in the grandline and beyond would have access too since blues are extremely weak in cannon. Thus blues are very weak here and you can't get the more beneficial traits outside of the gl.

You misunderstand me. That is the overarching plot of the site. Your character's personal goals can have nothing to do with one piece if you want, but the setting doesn't revolve around your character alone. Instead, site plot is based off of the main series, well...because it makes sense. Everything has been explained and all I'm doing is reiterating Dark's points, but this is how the site works. Your call to make nothing grand line exclusive isn't ever going to work for an RP like this, even if it caters well for your character. My advice? Man up, get some SD, climb that mountain, learn your shit in the GL, then use the mountain mole or w/e to go back to the blues. |

I've RPed on lots of different sites. The most notable topics, Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail. In every Bleach RP I've been a part of, you would have to leave Seireitei to go on hollow hunting missions in the outer rukongai, or in the living world in order to achieve commendations and/or advance in rank. And yes, stronger powers like Shikai and Bankai and some Kidou were limited to certain ranks, so you could only advance so far without leaving the comfort and security of Seireitei. In every Naruto RP I was a part of, you would have to go on missions outside the village in order to advance in rank, and the jutsu were ranked so you could only get certain levels of jutsu at certain ranks, so you had to leave the safety and monotony of your own village to advance beyond the basic levels. In every Fairy Tail RP I've been a part of, much like with naruto RPs, you would have to go on missions to advance in rank and unlock more complex magics. Those who just hung around their guilds were fine and all, but if they wanted to become an integral part of the site story, they would have to head out and do some missions. This RP is built to mirror the world of canon One Piece, and while we do have control over the workings of the world, we want to stay as true to the canon as we can. There's nothing wrong with members who just want to hang out in the Blues. If you just want to play out a good story that has nothing to do with Grand Line, go for it! But if you want to become one of the strongest characters on the site, or one of the most integral characters in the overall site story, then you are going to have to strike out for Grand Line, just like in the real canon story. And, as for the Grand Line being a graveyard, you can't really call it that anymore. In recent months a number of active crews have entered and are forging on. Heck, you should be able to see, in the WC we are stepping up work on island creation because of this. Also, the inclusion of GL requirements like the Haki requirement are in place to try and battle this idea that Grand Line is a crew graveyard. If you are looking for a purpose, there it is. Most of the mod staff and member base don't want to see the Grand Line (the area where 90% of the canon story takes place) be nothing more than a dead thread. |

" Haki and other stuff is something only people in the grandline and beyond would have access too" - Dark No. It isn't. Anyone and everyone has haki and can reasonably learn it's skills. Why are we limiting rp freedom? Haki a strong character does not make. It is just a legacy trait. If you want an interesting or fun character build and to explore the blues with it why can't you? To encourage people to rp in the grand line? They already get double beli in the grand line. They already are prone to being involved in more site plots in the grand line. They garner access to more insane technology in the grand line. My main argument is that it makes no sense to limit it. Haki can be developed anywhere so long as the conditions are right for it. The goal of this board is to roleplay. It isn't to find one piece. It isn't to force people to conform to some strange play-style of "Advance Forward". The goal is to have a group of individuals come together and create a tangible story. These rules limit rp freedom. They restrict creativity in characters. They prevent people from enjoying things they could reasonably enjoy. If you want haki you have to go to the grand line. What if your character has ic motivation to stay in the blues? What if you actually want to keep this character as well instead of scoop-de-looping into and out of the grand line for one haki thread? All that offers are ways to "Break" our site's canon, not build it. Forcing people to scoop because they want haki seems very wrong to me. There are more ways to advance in a story than just linearly. The Grand Line may be a staple of the One Piece world, for sure, but please don't fail to forget the first several arcs of that story. I'm not arguing for blues and Grand Line equality. I'm arguing for something that makes sense. And don't tell me "there's no one to train you" or "there's no possible ic way for you to develop haki" when someone like Daisuke gets haki one thread and has rank 44 haki skills in the next without needing to even learn them ic or have any suitable teacher either. Haki is in all living beings. Everyone has it. It is just latent in some. Why do you have to get into the grand line to bring it out? Why are we forcing people to rp a certain way? It seems cutthroat, pointless, and rather unnecessary. If you need a way to bring more people to the Grand Line, offer tangible things that you should reasonably control. We already offer them more money, more site npc interactions, and more chances to influence canon. It is a person's choice to enter the grand line or not, but that is a one way door. You go into the grand line and get haki, you basically need to scoop or forever nerf your character's beli reserves to get out. You already paid your traits for haki why do you need to pay 18,000,000 more beli too? If we're limiting gaining haki in the blues, why can you come back to them at all with haki? What's the point of forcing people to go through this long ass roundabout that only wastes time that they could be rping their characters with? |

It makes sense both canonly and to further the overarching plot of the site.
Close. The goal of the board is to roleplay...in a given setting. The setting is one piece. Piracy is a huge factor that make the One Piece world spin and the interest in piracy was sparked by mention of the treasure, one piece. I mean, it's literally One Piece with original characters. You've read the manga. Sorry, I'm not gonna write out anymore, because it would just be me repeating the same stuff that has already been said, but I don't find your argument the least bit compelling. You want a one piece RP that has no over-arching plot and nothing that drives people forward. Plain and simple, that's not how this RP functions. |

Might I specify using canon as an example becomes something of a moot point in this instance because this is, regardless of what anyone says and what you've heard and everything else of the sort, an alternate universe of the One Piece manga. Despite wanting to stay as true to One Piece as possible, as far as using that as an argument in itself, it isn't substantial enough because we've basically deviated away from that ourselves. Sure, it's one hundred years after the SH died and all, but... What goes on here isn't canon. It's been designed as the modmins have wished. We can try and follow the feel and standards of the One Piece world just fine, but when it comes to limiting the aspects of the Legacy traits to the GL because no one in the Blues was presented with such abilities, not only is it entirely possible, as we've seen from Garp and Shanks and Dragon and more people traveling back to the Blues, whom can very well teach what they know to others, but also, in terms of this RP, we've allowed shit that could very well have had no place in the manga whatsoever. We've limited potential DFs and techniques and the like that were once banned because of not likely abiding by the "imaginary" and interpreted standards of One Piece. It's just as likely we've allowed some shit that doesn't belong, such as certain level of technologies, DFs of course, among other shit. There's a line to be drawn where using canon as a reference is a good enough reasoning behind stuff. In a nutshell, I'm not really arguing for or against it. Just that argument isn't much in itself to throw out there for the justification behind it and all. What should really be said is "Legacy traits are restricted to GL just because we want it to be like that." That's the only thing there is to it, as with "this RP encouraging so and so to get out the Blues and into the GL, etc etc." as pointed out before. Pointless comment in a way really, but oh well. It is what it is. The rule isn't really likely to change without some convincing of "people that matter", even though I mostly agree with Zander. Edited by Celes, Feb 18 2013, 12:29 AM.

Most of my characters have no reason to leave the Blues. I intend to move forward and progress my characters in the Blues simply because it makes logical sense for them to stay there. I have a character who is determined to visit every island in the blue and become a hero across the Blues, he doesn't know what's in the Grand Line nor is he worried about it as he hasn't had any reason to find out. Out of the 44+ SLs I will have to do in the Blues to make his IC goal a reality it is currently impossible for him to have an experience that is so life changing that it could unlock haki, it is currently impossible for him to find a master or do a "eye of the tiger" sl to unlock Life Return, because out of every single island in the blues it is currently impossible for him to meet or experience anyone or anything that could bring about this change. There are Pirates with Bigger bounties in the blues than some of the people in the GL, but those people who have experienced far less than those Blue antagonist who can simply cross a mountain and go "Welp I found that master who will teach me how to be perfectly in tune with my body" or "Wow G willickers I fought a sea king and now I can sense the emotions of everyone on my crew." It's somewhat disheartening. Does that mean that a criminal with 50million Beli bounty is far less intimidating if that Bounty was accumulated in the Blues? The government wouldn't care about them as much as the GL pirate with a 50 million Beli bounty? That their crimes even if exactly the same are so vastly different simply because of the location? I don't know the point I'm trying to get across here, I'm just expressing my confusion and disappointment I'm sorry if this is considered spam.
