Clothing/Accessories: Sophia wears a snug-fitting, sleeveless vest (or waistcoat) that has been modified with a vertical slit along the back from which her dorsal fin may protrude comfortably. The garment is made of leather that has been dyed the same dark green-blue as her scales and will not be damaged by prolonged time in the sea, though the artificial color has faded a great deal because of the latter; likewise, the buttons arranged in a single row are made of brass and will not rust. She doesn't wear bottoms or footwear of any sort, as they would only get in the way of her tail, but it isn't unheard of for her to put together a dress or skirt out of aquatic plants when she must leave the sea.

General Appearance: Sophia is a rather large mermaid. Her stern visage is framed by short, silky black hair that hardly reaches past her ears, and her eyes are a field of deep sea green around slotted pupils. Travelling down the sides of her nose and curving just above the lower jaw in two semicircular shapes are her ampullae of Lorenzini, a perfectly symmetrical grouping of pores that may appear as very fine freckles if one were to look closely. The lips of her wide mouth are usually colored a dark violet that won't wash off in sea water, and the rows of triangular teeth behind them are many and razor sharp with serrated edges. Her overall appearance gives an impression of innate ferocity.

Her body is characterized by a well-toned and slender build, muscular yet appropriately proportioned to accommodate her greater bulk. Her lightly tanned skin has a supple feel and texture to it, though is adorned in a layer of rough and sandpaper-like dermal denticles, or placoid scales, which lay atop one another in a cascading fashion. These scales are colored a dark green-blue mix that blends well with the sea, and span the bottom halves and sides of her C-cup breasts in crescent shapes. The skin of her back is a lighter hue of this green-blue mix, and is accentuated by the large dorsal fin that begins just below the nape of her neck and travels down the length of her spine's thoracic region. Aligned perfectly with the dorsal fin, a thick strip of additional scales travels the length of her spine, running perpendicular to scaled stripes akin to the appearance of a tiger's that stretch around to her abdomen.

The separation between human and fish is blurred somewhat, as the placoid scales that cover her tail in its entirety grow gradually across her waist, not abruptly. The underbelly of her lower half is the same color as her skin, though the top and sides are the same dark green-blue as the scales of her upper half. Careful examination of her person, and especially of the scales themselves, may reveal the off-colored linear line that spans her body's length just inches above where the change in color appears on her tail. Unlike most other merfolk, her caudal fin is vertically oriented and heterocercal in build, possessing a larger upper lobe with a length twice that of the lower. When on land, her tail splits into two shapely legs that are devoid of the many fins normally present, though the layer of scales remains and changes its color so that the lighter half runs along her inner thighs.

The Character
Personality: Sophia is an oft aggressive and headstrong person, a trait conflicting of the usual peacefulness seen in other merfolk, but she does show signs of caring and compassion towards others from time to time. She has taken very strongly to her innate nature and upbringing as an apex predator, and as such, seems very confident in her every action as she doesn't so much as entertain the possibility of failure. She can be very patient when the need arises, and though she cannot keep from showing them as is instinctual, she has a practiced hold over her emotions and is not usually quick to anger or assume things; her bloodlust is one of such emotions, which is given absolute freedom only when she feeds.

She has a distinct and unbridled hatred for slavery and captivity in all their forms and for pirates by the simple act of association. One of the few things that will drive her to violence without prior thought, she will oft become consumed by the desire to not only free any slaves she comes across, but to also kill the slaver or owner in the worst possible way that can be fathomed. Perhaps mistaken as a heartless nature by some, she favors killing the pirates she hunts rather than leaving them to a jail for very much this reason. She does feel noticeably stronger about humans enslaving merfolk and fishmen than other humans, though this concern of hers applies to the latter just the same on occasion.

Contradictory to her usual passionate self, there are times when Sophia is very calm and peaceful, like most merfolk. Such days are typically spent in the ocean depths where humans cannot easily disturb her, and they are more common than one would be lead to believe by her more aggressive and predatory disposition. These are most often days she has chosen to take off after claiming a particularly strong bounty, or time set aside so that her body can have its chance to rest between hunts.

Abilities and Possessions
Combat: Sophia's particular style of combat is both careful passiveness and ferocious aggression, and radiates a confidence buried deep within her psyche. A cold and calculating mind during the beginnings of conflict, she moves slowly and uses the length of her spear to assess the prey's weaknesses. Once the clash has begun, however, she strikes with sudden bursts of speed as her predatory instincts and passionate bloodlust come to a boil. The practiced blending of these two mindsets --as well as the various tools at her disposal-- makes Sophia a dangerous and oft unpredictable combatant, for friend and foe alike.

Weaponry:
  • A spear reminiscent of the Dory, measuring seven feet in length and two inches in thickness and weighing approximately five pounds. The curved leaf-shaped spearhead is cast in bronze and has a serrated edge, and the end is tipped in bronze to act as a counterweight --perhaps also as a blunt weapon. Much of the wooden shaft is bound in sharkskin to give Sophia greater grip on the weapon.

Traits:
  • Merfolk (1 Trait) - In place of legs these characters have a tail which splits down the middle while they are standing on land (For this RP's purposes, this is the case at any age, not just 30+). They may breathe underwater and gain the Great Speed trait whilst submerged, and their movements underwater are completely unhindered. Spending too long out of water can fatigue them somewhat. In addition, merfolk can talk to most types of fish, but not seakings.

    • Shark (1 Trait) - Requires Merfolk - A class of merfolk who share certain characteristics with sharks. In addition to an acute sense of smell, each shark is highly sensitive to electromagnetic fields and able to detect vibrations in the surrounding water through an assortment of specialized sensory organs. Each shark also grows new teeth at a constant rate, though the replacement of lost teeth occurs gradually over the period of a week.


  • Fate of the Strong (1 Traits) - By placing traits in Fated, you lock them until the next time you earn a trait. You may put as many traits as you have into fated. In the meantime, you get a temporary boost of (# of traits in fated, multiplied by 3) to your strength stat.

  • Craftsman (1 trait) - Putting to use her creativeness and knowledge of how to more effectively incapacitate the prey, the Huntress gains special technique points at the amount of half her fortune to be used for building her own traps and tools.

"She also does not pay upkeep for basic necessities." - What? The only thing I can think of is Food upkeep, which is a no for a bonus since that's what chef gives you and you already have another upkeep negation bonus. So remove that.

You have to wear something for a bottom since your tail splits into legs on land. You can't just walk around naked :|

Also this is going to make people call me the treize of shirts again, but does she even wear one, or just the vest? Specify please

No to murdering an entire crew. Even if they are pirates/slavers, that's still going to raise some eyebrows at the bounty office and result in a bounty for your character

Remove "Teeth" from weaponry

The bola seem right now to me more like weaponry than items. Unless you could explain otherwise, move them to weaponry.

With what you have, Merfolk should really be Fishman. Merfolk is mainly meant just for the basic trait, while Fishman will give you all that species shenanigans. Also, no to detecting electromagnetic fields and whatnot. Or at least not for three traits. Also I'm not a shark expert, but how is electroreception related to sharks at all?

Waking Current would be Rank 8 since it has a knock-back effect. You can't have a Rank 8 technique, so either modify it or remove it.

Considering food upkeep is so pitiful, I'd be fine letting them negate it for the time being, along with their own creation techniques.

I've said this before.

As long as the crew is completely insignificant and irrelevant to the world at large, you can get away with some minor cases of murder. In this situation, their deaths went unnoticed, and can catch up with her in time after her story starts. Bounties for getting rid of pirates is pretty silly.

The line between mermaid and fishman is hard to draw, but considering her powers will largely apply in or around water, it's fine. A fishman with the same shit would be 3 traits, so this is fine for 2.

Proceed with the other necessary changes.

  • Well, she couldn't wear anything with legs because of her tail, and a skirt or dress will simply come off as she swims. My fix for this was to simply not have her leave the water, or to have her scales cover everything if that does happen (to which Yaksha agreed so long as there's something to cover her up).
  • Just the vest, and because of her dorsal fin getting in the way of anything else. Everything's covered, so there's no reason to get squeamish about it.
  • Yak explained the bounty thing.
  • Removed teeth from her weapons.
  • The bola are nothing more than tools to bind the legs as someone tries to flee. Would it make much of a difference, anyways? I've talked with Yak, and they're now removed altogether.
  • All species of shark are sensitive to the electromagnetic fields in both living tissue and even the ocean currents; it's how they detect prey in the dark ocean depths, alongside the lateral line detecting water movement. This happens through the ampullae of lorenzini, which are a grouping of specialized sensory organs in the snout. If you read the first paragraph of Sophia's description, you will note that I have described the placement of these pores on her cheeks.
    As for merfolk not gettin' species, I can link you to existing profiles where a specialized species of merfolk is allowed for the cost of an additional trait or two. Here is only one example, where "octopus" was allowed as a special sub-species of mermaid that grants tentacles and an ink defense (I am askin' for the same number of traits in Sophia's specialized organs and regrowing teeth for the same cost).
  • Yaksha has told me that waking current is fine because it's not an attack. The knockback effect is all there is to it, plain and simple.

I would suggest that, like Zoans and like the older Mermaid from the Water Seven arc in the manga and anime, the clothes 'magically' appear for the sake of unnecessary nudity. Role playing in the water, always, will be like, near impossible without you growing tired of it.

Throw an N/A or 0 next to upkeep.

Other than that, you should be good, given that Yak did say okay to the majority of that and he outranks me. I'll throw a flag up after you've replied, most likely, maybe, possibly.

Ok, I think I've found a suitable middle ground. I've now edited it into her clothing that she does build herself a skirt or dress of some sort out of aquatic plants (seaweed, kelp, ect.) when she must venture onto land. Please bear with me here, as my OCD keeps my standards for realism and common sense in rp pretty high. I cannot just leave something to the reasoning of "it's magic".

I also fixed the upkeep thing.
