Yep, as the title suggests I have a small problem. I have yet to create my first character, and there are some questions I have that need aswering. 1: If I want to start with an invention, let's say a king of shrapnelbomb or something like that, what do I have to do to get it? And does it work the same if I, as a scientist, want to create a flashy liquid? 2: How does techniques work that involve these king of weapons? That should be all for now. By the way, I read all the rules, but it may well be that I missed something. Please don't hate on me for that. I'm a newbie. |

Just make a technique for making the thing in what you deem a logical manner and apply for it in character/misc. Review other inventor techniques for examples. |

Yeah, basically inventors, scientists, assassins, chefs & doctors create stuff with techniques that create these items. The technique can involve a summary of how you typically use it, but basically all you have is the description of what you have created and what does it do. Go look at scientist and inventor biographies, already made techniques and ask around + use common sense when figuring out can you do something on which rank. |

Soooo, you can't start with an invention/funny thing if you don't have a matching technique?

If you mean invention as in a weapon then that's a no. Inventior creations that I mentioned are like consumables: bombs, timers, tick toc things you know. You can also create stuff like a telescopic arm, technical weaponry and stuff like that you know which stay with your character and don't require techniques. The matter with these is only money. I think I'm making this more complex and confusing it needs to be. Edited by Beary, Jan 18 2013, 02:31 PM.

I had a similar question, what type of upgrades are allowed and what are battle engines? Mostly if I were to take jack of all trades:navigator and shipwright could I make inventions based on those professions? |

No. Not really. In-RP, the Navigator profession lets you use intricate weather knowledge. Outside of RP, it gives you the abilities listed in the description and the trait, which mostly has to do with navigating Grand Line. As a navigator, you could have things like Nami's Weather Staff or the Weather Balls from Weatheria, but you would need the Inventor profession to purchase a weapon like that. The Navigator skills would focus more on having the skills necessary to use things like that. Shipwright focuses more on your ship, and building large things like structures. Think, like, Franky on Thriller Bark where he almost instantly built a fancy foot bridge, or when he built a flight of stairs to carry himself up above the giant shadow zombie. The stairs collapsed a little bit later, but they carried him and (Usopp I think?) for a little ways. You could create techniques like that. If you're thinking of a Franky-esque type character, Franky himself as a character on this site would more than likely be Shipwright Inventor Smith Scientist (maybe) Shipwright focuses more on building ships, building vehicles, and building maybe temporary structures though no one has tried making techs like that yet that I am aware of. Inventor is going to give you the ability to create consumable inventions like grenades with technique points, and will unlock the ability to create permanent complex working items and weapons for purchase with Beli. Smith is going to allow for the ability to work with complex alloys and substances like Franky's use of Wapometal in the Battle Shogun robot. Mad Scientist isn't necessarily necessary, but would help make everything listed above just that much more complex. |

Thanks for the ideas, honestly never thought of that myself. I think the main reason no one has tried that is because no one carries materials with them for making a temporary staircase. What did franky do again? Like did he just happen to have what he needed or did he somehow scavenge the materials? |

Franky scavenged materials from the surrounding rubble. I would think you could do that with a technique.
