Zei watched his freshly recruited crew members demonstrate their varying methods of dispatching a shoddily made dummy, well, not that shoddy apparently as the Lady Akemi needed a second try to take it out, Leons initial attempts were just sad, though his finish was a surprise, using explosives in close combat was not something Zei had contemplated doing and it gave him an idea that he would have to try at a later date when he had some time to experiment in the ships medical bay. Danielle showed an exemplary performance as there wasn’t much dummy left after she was done, it did however raise a few concerns in Zei, as for Hunter he showed a nice display of skill, still a bit unpolished but you couldn’t ask for everything. Nodding as everyone finished he then went on to tell them more in detail what he thought, starting with Lady Akemi he faced her and spoke ”Lady Akemi, you will need to work on your basics, you show some measure of ability in combat but it will serve you well to improve across the board, you could develop your abilities in any direction you so wish, be it speed, strength or skill. I will have some training manoeuvres for you once we reach the island, just decide if you want to focus or do general training before then” Next he faced Danielle ”Miss Danielle, you show a natural inclination toward speed but you seem to consciously try to focus on raw power instead, my suggestion would be to work on your physical strength and endurance so you will not put such a burden on your body with those moves, you could also benefit from applying your speed and agility into your strength moves. As they need not be treated as separate areas of expertise, I will demonstrate what I mean once I have talked to the others” After that it was Leons turn ”Leon, I trust I need not tell you that your initial attempt was less than stellar, however I see that you aren’t overly harmed by the explosive you used at the end, that shows a natural resilience toward damage that will serve you well, as for training I will have something for you later, I have a few ideas to make a weapon you could use but it will take some time so be patient until then” Lasty he turned to Hunter ”Hunter, you have a firm grasp on the basics of your weapon, as well as some unarmed manoeuvres, that is good, you will not always have your weapon to rely on and it is good to be able to handle yourself without one. As for training I have the perfect exercises for you, it is the same ones I use myself in fact” Being done with telling everyone what he thought they needed to work on he turned to the remains of the dummies, he had promised her a demonstration and a demonstration she would get . Patching up one of the more intact ones he had whipped up another dummy in a minute or two, putting it in an upright position he spoke Danielle, I believe I promised a demonstration of how to incorporate both speed and strength in your moves, watch closely” Making sure he moved slowly enough that the others could actually observe him move while still retaining the speed he wanted to demonstrate he first took a seemingly relaxed stance before moving into action, moving gracefully he performed an open palm strike against the upper parts of the dummy in a move similar to what Akemi had done. Then the dummy was gone, the largest pieces left were a few sticks and splinters that fell down around Zei. Returning to his normal stance he turned to face Danielle ”If you would like I could give you training to work toward that” As they had been doing the dummy demonstration the ship had gotten very close to the island, one of the trio they had also picked up on Cactus island rushed up to Zei and asked ”Captain, want us to anchor the ship?” ”Yes” Zei simply replied ”Aye Aye” And with that the ship was rapidly prepared for anchoring, it stopped just short of the island to make leaving again easier, a lengthened gangplank for going ashore when there weren’t a dock around was put out and they were ready to explore the island they had arrived at. Being a large jungle with what looked like mountains further inland it intrigued Zei, he could see what looked like some kind of reptilian flyer in the sky, now this island should prove interesting to explore, well once he had given his crew proper Training exercises. |

Despite her wide eyed stare it appeared that Mr Akame was going to wait for all the others to finish their attempts first. That did make sense with some thought; after all it would be incredibly rude to keep interrupting the others with a guideline and if the same comments could apply for multiple people it would also be a waste of time. Really, she should know better than that; she’d need to ensure that she kept her cool head on for later lest she end up proving her mother right about her readiness to actually journey without any protection. She couldn’t let her adventure end before it actually started! As she stood back, she saw Danielle step up to try, clad in her gi and remembered what happened earlier when Mr Akame brought the training clothes. Her face started to slowly turn quite a bright shade of red, much like when the mermaid first stripped off her clothes right in front of everyone and satisfied her lingering curiosity on whether or not mermaids were humanlike on their lower halve – okay now her thoughts were clearly heading in a very bad direction. The scales that could change colour was a nice touch though; it certainly made for an interesting fashion statement. She was fairly sure that Leon also changed right in front of everyone but then she was far too distracted by Danielle to pay much attention to anything for a bit and by the time she got her body back under control and had suppressed the return of that infernal blush, he was already quite fortunately properly dressed; it was for the best, given how Danielle behaved she might well decide to use his clothing as bait to get him back on that rope hanging over the ship. There was clearly a lot she had to learn about how normal people interacted although she sincerely hoped that public nudity was not normal; she honestly couldn’t ever bring herself to be so uncaring about who saw her and somewhat envied the pair for their lack of restraint. She would admit to herself that she might also envy Danielle’s incredible striking force; she didn’t look it at all, Akemi would honestly believe that she of all people might be physically stronger than the mermaid but the sheer amount of power she could put behind her punches still amazed her even after having witnessed it back of Cactus Island. Leon wasn’t as scarily powerful as his friend, not making much progress at all towards the dummy. As he kept punching, Akemi thought that she caught a flash of something before the head of the training dummy suddenly exploded with his last punch! She might not have saw it clearly but it looked like he didn’t even make contact with it with that last swing! While she doubted that he pulled that off with just a punch (thinking back on it now she was fairly sure that he had something in his hand before the dummy exploded), it still meant that he had the means to make explosives that were effective enough to do some real damage. The other member of this crew – Hunter was his name if she recalled correctly, walked up to his training dummy and proceeded to systematically dismantle the thing with ease, finishing it with a spear thrust when Akemi was fairly sure that the dummy was already quite gone with his first decapitating blow. Granted they weren’t exactly held together that tightly – which made her initial failure to do any damage a bit more depressing – but that might have been overkill. She knew from the beginning that compared to Mr Akame she was simply that damsel in distress that she was doing her best to not become but in his case he was her knight, of course he was going to be powerful. As it was though she was looking to be far weaker than she thought compared to everyone else around her. She was getting far more worried about her ability to keep up with her companions now and Mr Akame’s comment about her basics needing far more work didn’t help matters, then he showed what happened when one was truly strong by reducing one of the training dummies to nothing with a simple palm strike. The scary thing about it was that Akemi had seen him fight before and knew that the mere fact that she could actually see the move meant that he was holding back quite a lot. As the jungle island drew closer, she considered just what might happen if everyone kept getting further ahead, if she really ended up just being effectively eye candy, incapable of dealing with anything. She couldn’t tolerate that, being a burden to anyone like that. She walked up to Mr Akame, her face open for once and burning with determination. “Mr Akame, I want to become stronger. Speed, strength, skill, everything, I want to be able to stand with everyone. I-I don’t want to be burden to you.” She couldn’t help stumbling at the end there but she still kept her gaze fixed on her fluffy knight. |

Hunter was the last one to show off his skills on the training dummy, and boy did he go all out. The mysterious man walked casually up to the dummy before beheading it using a single strike with his hands, which was then followed by a ferocious kick and a well timed stab in the chest with his spear. The whole process was over in a flash, disheartening Leon a tad because he had taken that unfortunate moment to glance in Akemi's direction. Still, the end result and the time taken to attain it was evidence enough for what had happened and left the boy with the clear goal of not getting on the man's bad side. However, contradictory to his scary side there was a much warmer feeling that Hunter seemed to be giving off. It was a hard to explain sensation that both Danielle and Leon were feeling, and could be likened to what it was like to have known someone for a long time. To their dismay there were no other clues to his identity, and so the two were stuck brainstorming for who in the world the man could be if they knew him already. The brainstorming was cut short by Zei, who had been talking to Akemi until then and had now chosen to turn to Dan instead. The mermaid quickly got back into the flow of things as her captain began explaining her strengths and areas for improvement, these focusing around her talent for speed and not raw power. This was most certainly true, and could only be backed up by her even further improved agility in the water. However, the reason she had not used it as a base for her techniques was because there was only so much she could accomplish on her own, and learning what to train was not one of them. "Okey dokey smokey!" Leon came next, only to have his hoped shattered when it was pointed out that his first few strikes were not up to standard. Though he already knew this, he was still somewhat depressed about his lack of fighting capabilities. On top of that his secret gunpowder trick was effortlessly seen through, though his unnatural resistance to damage was noted and therefore helped to swell his pride back up. Following the final explanation which was directed towards Hunter, Zei made sure that he didn't miss out on his turn of the fun either. After stating his intentions of showing an example of a move using speed, the bounty hunter fell into a relaxed stance before dealing an open palm strike to one of the intact dummies he had just set up again. The attack gave a whole new meaning to fast, for there were only splinters left of the dummy as is simply disappeared from sight upon recieving the blow. "If you would like I could give you training to work toward that" Announced the captain, once again sending Danielle into an overly hyperactive mood. "Ooh! Ooh! Teach me! Teach me!" Pleaded the girl, bouncing up and down right in Zei's face with her hand in the air. Her face was lit up with the bubbly cheeriness it almost always had, her expectant eyes just like those of a child looking up to their role model. "Pipe down a little, will you?" Requested Leon, just as the ship stopped at it's destination. The gangplank was lowered along with the anchor and the sails were risen, giving the crew access to the potentially lethal island they had just arrived at. It's massive trees loomed just metres away from the boat, fearsome shrieks and roars echoing from the darkness of the jungle. Edited by Oceonax, Feb 21 2013, 09:40 AM.

Hunter was pondering over whether he had put to much effort into taking down his dummy, he needed something for Zei to see so he could help him become better, but he knew barely anything about this crew and they could become the enemy at any moment. Maybe he should have gone with something simpler so as to not give everything away, but he couldn't change it now, this was the hand he had dealt himself so he would play it to the end. Hunter took a few seconds to calm himself then opened up to his surroundings again, turning away from the view of the island as he did so. Zei was reviewing each persons attack on the dummy and presenting tips on how to improve to each person. The only person who seemed even mildly happy with what they had been told was danielle, Leon was shattered when told of his lack of strength, lady akemi exhibiting the same expression when told of her lack of skill but Daniel just accepting it and carrying on. Zei then moved on to Hunter, not so much giving him any improvements more than telling him that he was proficient in both armed and unarmed combat and explaining to him that he would be put through the same exercises that Zei uses. Although Hunter wouldn't admit it to anyone ever he was happy with this response as it meant that inless something had been left out Zei could find no faults in his technique and just wished to push him harder. Indicating that he had been listening to Zei through a brief nod of his head he then sat down on the side of the boat as Zei readied himself for his example of what he could train them to achieve. The minute Zei executed his maneuver Hunter knew it wasn't at full power, he could see the palmed strike being executed whereas before at cactus island Zei had executed some form of maneuver (hunter still hadn't found out) faster than Hunters eyes could see. Stil,l it was an extremely powerful strike, completely shattering the dummy into small pieces with the one strike. Immediately this set off danielle, causing her to bounce around attempting to make Zei teach her the to be able to perform such a feat. This then set leon off complaining about the noise and trying to quieten her down. Almost simultaneously to Leon kicking off they reached their island destination, the ship was docked and a gangplank was drawn out, Hunter headed straight across it and surveyed his surroundings. The jungle and its animalistic noises may have intimidated some people, but Hunter had grown up in a place similar to this, surrounded by trees and a multitude of animals, predator and prey. Learning to hunt each and keeping the notes in his book for just an occasion such as this. Only a few metres seperated him from the jungle, from the dense wall of trees dwarfing even the very point of their ships mast. The training would soon commence Hunter guessed, well he anyway didn't want to waste any more time, he wondered where the first stage of the training would take part, there wasn't to much space outside the jungle so the most reasonable place to start would be in the jungle, although in the jungle there were more trees so it did sort of even out. The decision was not his anyway so he chose to leave it to zei. |

It was good that Danielle had so much enthusiasm for the training, less so that she was blocking Zeis entire field of vision, showing an amused smile he said ” Calm, calm, we will get to the training in due time and it will require a lot of time and effort on your part to get to that level” Hearing Lady Akemis response he dodged Dan so that he could at least look the one he was talking to in the face, her expression caused the smile on Zeis face to be replaced by a more serious one, it was obvious that Akemi was very serious about the training and it would be discourteous to not take it at that level. ”If that is your choice, be aware that this training will not be easy, and to respect your determination I will not hold back on guiding you toward your goal.” His words spoken he turned around and walked down the gangplank, noticing that Hunter had gone ahead and was already on the beach, looking around he noted that this jungle was rather odd, he had never seen several of the plants before, and judging by the pictures he had seen in the Shining Stars medical library those that were familiar seemed to be of a species long since thought extinct. This would require further investigation later but for now he better find a suitable training area, that in itself would require some scouting on his part, speaking aloud he told his crew what his current plans were. ”I will locate a suitable practise field, you may wait here until I return, it shouldn’t take long and I will also make sure there are no predators above your ability in the immediate area” Taking his halberd S Nova he spun it a few times before letting the spear tip pierce the ground, so that the weapon stood upright. He regretted not being able to carry it properly while in wolf form, he would have to find a solution to that sooner or later. Without further ado he then transformed into his full Fenrir form, his mouth turning into a jaw, his nose turning far more dog like, his ears shifting to the top of his head, hands and feet turning into paws, a tail growing and his body gaining a lot of fur. Then as quickly as it had begun it ended and there he stood, seeing the world from a dog perspective once again, he had to admit he rather liked it, his sense of smell and hearing was several grades above that of his human form and he could detect even minute changes in the smells that reached his nose. Turning toward the jungle he then sped off in search of a suitable open space, what he smelled though was rather odd, he had never felt these kinds of scents before and it puzzled him, perhaps every grand line island had its own particular perks, which would be logical. Starting in a half circle around the immediate area of the ship he made sure that there was nothing dangerous close to his comrades before extending his search outward, rapidly extending his search radius until he eventually came upon what he looked for, a clearing in the jungle. However what he saw there nearly caused him to doubt his own eyes, walking in the clearing was what must most definitely be classified as a dire wolf, a species of wolf that had not been seen in the blues for thousands of years, and if his eyes weren’t deceiving him up in the air was something that was most definitely not a modern bird, well this made things interesting. As the dire wolf spotted Zei he made himself ready to fight, only the dire wolf first tensed up, then seemed to get better thoughts as it realized just what it was looking at, in one fluid motion the dire wolf turned around and ran as quickly as its legs could carry it away from the giant monstrosity of a wolf it had spotted. It relieved Zei that he would not have to fight, he didn’t like doing so unless it was absolutely necessary. Well the clearing seemed safe enough, just to be sure he ran a length around it while catching the scents around, there were some odd smells that might be troublesome later but he figured he could handle whatever the island threw at him, Zei would just have to make sure that his group of protégés didn’t separate. Returning to the beach he came out from the forest and stopped just before where he had left his halberd. ”I found a suitable spot, follow me…woof, pardon” It seemed the occasional barks while speaking in Fenrir form would remain, oh well he would just have to get used to it then. Giving Danielle and Akemi a sideways look he added ”Miss Danielle, Lady Akemi, you two may ride me if you…woof, so wish” Turning toward Hunter he continued ”I would appreciate it if you carried my weapon for me, it is a tad difficult to do so myself in this form” He then lowered his body so that Dan and Akemi could climb up if they so wished Fenrir form |

It was somewhat difficult to maintain a serious atmosphere with a hyperactive mermaid jumping about trying to get Mr Akame to teach her how to pull off that disintegration punch of his. While Akemi had it drilled into her from since she was a toddler and prone to being like, well a kid that she should always carry herself with a certain level of dignity, she could see the merits in being more expressive; it was so much more effective at gaining someone else’s attention. Honestly she was a bit concerned that Mr Akame was just going to brush her off because he didn’t think that she could handle it and she was already preparing a few arguments to try to convince him if it came to that but once he got a good look at her past the bubbly Danielle, she could see that he was actually going to take her seriously on this. She was probably getting herself into the most intense training session of her life, but she knew that from the beginning and she was prepared for it. “I know and thank you for taking the time to teach me, Mr Akame.” She finished up her response with a perfect bow to a sensei – which would be what Mr Akame would be to her at least for while they were on this island. She’d have to do her best not to let her teacher down with him taking the time to work with her and put up with her desires. As everyone disembarked the ship, Hunter rushing off ahead while she trailed after Mr Akame, Akemi took in the massive jungle in front of her with quite a lot of amazement. She’d never seen any plants like these before, not even in books though even if she did, she highly doubted that any kind of book or den den video could ever compare to seeing the real thing right in front of you. While the beauty drew her in though the various growls and roars she heard from within also warned her of the potential danger; this place was certainly not any of the zoos that she’d been allowed to go through and she’d have to keep on guard to not get snuck up on by something or the other. Something about the island seemed odd to her though. She couldn’t put her finger on it but something here wasn’t right at all. A particularly loud screech drew her attention upwards where she could just make out what seemed like a bird…Wait a minute, I’ve seen that before. Yep, looking at it harder she had definitely seen that creature before but she almost couldn’t believe her eyes; the place she’d seen it was in a book on prehistoric creatures; that bird was supposed to be extinct! Now starting to become a bit concerned about where they had landed, when Mr Akame mentioned that he was going to scout the place Akemi had no problems with waiting outside the jungle; normal animals she wasn’t all that concerned about but she did not need to run into a dinosaur or something and become an Akemi sized snack for one of them. Her new worries about becoming a prehistoric lunch quickly vanished when Mr Akame once again became that adorable fluffy wolf before heading off into the jungle to likely scare away everything; while she was worried about the kind of creature in there she had no doubt that Mr Akame was the toughest person on this island right now. Sure enough he returned in short order with news of a suitable training spot and with that barking verbal tic of his that had her putting in great effort to not break down into a fit of giggles; besides the obvious issues of potential rudeness she couldn’t so giggling like a small girl after she’d just gone and noted that she shouldn’t be acting like that back on the ship, after all she wasn’t a little kid anymore. Then Mr Akame offered for her to once again experience the thrill of riding on a large mythical wolf and all thoughts about proper decorum fled from her mind leaving the happy teenager practically running towards her fluffy knight, literally jumping onto Mr Akame and letting herself sink into the cool fuzziness. Ah, so soft and cuddly, maybe looking into eating one of these devil fruits might not be a bad idea; if Mr Akame was any indication the benefits were more than worth the problem with not being able to swim. |

"Woah, this jungle is so cool!" Fortunately for Zei, the constant pestering he was recieving from a certain mermaid ceased once she noticed that the boat had reached land. In an instant any thoughts of training left her as though they had never existed in the first place, and were instead replaced by the desire to explore the vast green forest that lay before her eyes. Like a bullet Danielle whizzed off the Shining Star and stood at the edge of the forest, leaving shortly after Hunter but with much more enthusiasm than him. The others soon followed, all looking upon the dense jungle with a mixture of awe and fear. Especially Leon, who was much more concered about the terrifying creatures that probably lived there rather than the natural beauty of the place. As far as he was concerned, true beauty lay only in women. So when Zei announced that he would go and search for a practice field, the cowardly womanizer was not happy. "Wait! What if something attacks us?" Unfortunately for him, no reply came from the captain. "Dan, Akemi, I'm relying on you to protect me." Leon stated, not even one ounce of manly pride showing up in his words. I've got to find a way to protect myself, one gunpowder vial has already been used up and I don't want to waste the rest. He scanned the surrounding area both for threats and for a weapon, as well as noting the carefree nature of both his female companions. Both were completely occupied with examining the island, though while Akemi's method was akin to careful studying Dan was just playing around. Noisily. What if she attracted some huge, terrifying animals? Like a bear? The fear only got worse when she playfully announced what she had found during her casual exploration. "Hey, what do you think this belonged to?" The mermaid pulled away some vines from what had looked like a mere rock, revealing it to be the skull of a rather large animal. It was easily a few metres in length and had some sinister looking spikes poking out of it, but nevertheless Danielle seemed completely unfazed by it and therefore asked about it's origin pure-heartedly, all the while climbing in and out of the large holes in it as though it were a toy. Leon on the other hand almost had his pants turn brown when it entered his sight, since it provided rock solid evidence to support his theories of the island being a monster island. "S-something big." Luckily his scan of the area had not proved useless, it had allowed him to spot Zei's halberd stuck into the ground like a flagpole. As a result of noticing this earlier he unconsciously rushed to it when he layed eyes on the skull and was attempting to weild it as the extra form of defence he had been searching for. But despite his efforts, he made no progress in pulling it out from the ground. It was also at this point that Zei returned, proving that some things in life did actually go his way. "Miss Danielle, Lady Akemi, you two may ride me if you... woof, so wish" Still, Danielle seemed to have things go better than him yet again. "Woohoo!" Cheered the girl, wasting no time in mounting the fenrir. "Giddyup! Let us ride into the sunset!" |

Well the two he had offered a ride sure were…enthusiastic, about it. While he didn’t mind and had after all offered the ride himself he did wish that Danielle didn’t treat him quite as much as a horse, oh well not that it mattered. He was just happy to have someone around again, eccentric or not. Setting off at a very moderate pace so the non-riders could see where he was going he made sure to pick out a path without any low hanging branches, it would be terrible rude if he let any of the two ladies on his back fall off due to a mal-placed piece of wood. Arriving at the clearing he had spotted earlier he noted that it was still as empty as he had left it, running a few laps around it at a bit higher pace for the enjoyment of his riders he then came to a halt in the middle of the clearing. ”Ok, time to start the training…woof” Lying down on his stomach to allow Danielle and Akemi to easier climb off him he waited patiently for them to do so ”Just ask if you want to ride me again, I do not mind” He added thoughtfully as the two had seemed to enjoy the brief trip on his back, frankly he just found it pleasant to be in full Fenrir form but had yet to find much of a reason to stay in it for very long at a time, the hybrid form usually filled most of his needs so the full Fenrir one rarely saw much use. Once both were safely back on the ground he swiftly transformed back into his human form, as much as he enjoyed the wolf form it just wasn’t practical for what he was about to do. ”For the start-up exercise I want you to repeat the laps we just did around this clearing, take it at your own pace and don’t exhaust yourselves too much, it’s just to get you in the right mood while I prepare the proper equipment” It was time to put to use all that he had learnt from those books on how to work mechanical parts, he would need two obstacle courses, one solely for Akemi and one for the rest. Taking out the knife he usually reserved for cutting food he began cutting up some of the thick grass and some kind of thin plant that reminded him of bamboo. Using those he tied together several lengths of what looked like some kind of rope, it was flexible yet wouldn’t tear, at least not for the strength any of his students could muster at the moment, well more or less. They could all probably break it if they wanted to but that wasn’t the purpose so it would do. Walking up to a medium sized tree at the edge of the clearing he then delivered a swift but incredibly powerful kick to the base of it, as it wasn’t a particularly large tree it snapped like a twig before falling toward the jungle, with that done he then dragged the tree toward the middle of the clearing where he had left the rope material, using his hands he then ripped off any and all of the trees branches, leaving only a long trunk. Examining what he had to work with Zei then set to work and quickly created several basic athletic obstacles as well as a more advanced form of the training dummy used earlier, these were more like solid logs wrapped in the flexible grass rope material he’d created earlier. None of this would really last all that long, but since that happened to be a few weeks or so at most it would be plenty for their purposes. Once he was done stood in the middle of the clearing something that kind of resembled a marine training course, he had seen one once so he knew more or less what they looked like and while he hadn’t expressively tried to recreate one his old masters training course was suspiciously similar. In any case while he had aimed to create two of them he had realized partway through that really wouldn’t be practical so he had instead opted to make a few sections of it specifically made to work on a different area of improvement. That should do it for the initial course, he judged they would have to stay at the island for a while in order to really let his protégés improve so it might be for the best to not overdo things right away. After looking at his handiwork for a bit he waited for his students to finish their running before handing out his next set of instructions ”I want all of you to get through this obstacle course at least once before I train you any further” It was kind of a test to measure their physical limits rather than the limit of their combat skill this time. The courses first section was a set of hoops designed to be jumped between, it would train coordination speed and agility, the next stretch was basically a climbing exercise as they would need to climb over a vertical log made out of a part of the tree, it was rather tall so he would need to make sure to catch anyone that slipped and fell down, after that was a section of high and low bars that they would need to go over and below. After that was a combined strength and accuracy obstacle in that they would need to throw some rocks at a few more of the dummies he’d created, hit them in the ‘head’ five times and they could proceed to the last section that was basically a sprint back to the start line. He informed everyone of what each section would entail before starting to observe how well everyone would do. This would decide exactly how he went on with the rest of the training so he was eager to see how they would fare. |

“Hey Dan you should be a bit nicer to Mr Akame.” Granted, what Akemi was now saying was a bit muffled because she still hadn’t managed to pry herself from the fluffyness yet. She was making a valiant attempt in order to be polite when talking to Danielle and all but it was really difficult to leave the cool comfortable soft cuddly fluff and she didn’t feel like trying all that hard to begin with. Still, she needed to say something. “Mr Akame isn’t a horse or steed, we can’t go riding into the sunset like that.” Of course they couldn’t no matter how romantic a sunset ride might well be. That was an idea for later though but could she gather up the nerve to ask him something like that? That would be quite difficult….maybe for much later on when she could walk with her knight a bit more. Besides there were other reasons that needed to be mentioned here. “Mr Akame’s a knight, a very noble and fluffy knight, he escorts us to his valiant castle.” Now she’d managed to sit up again, her eyes sparkling as she pictured the experience of riding into some grand mansion on a white wolf. Ah, so cute~ Before Akemi went fully wandering off in her visions of the future, she remembered something that Leon had mentioned earlier about relying on them for protection. If the two of them took off on Mr Akame that might pose a problem…. She turned back to look at Leon, with Hunter right there. He’d probably make some good protection considering how he did earlier with the dummy thinking about it. Still, it would be the proper thing to do for her to stay there herself so there was only one thing left to do about it. “Best of luck keeping up with us. See you in the clearing!” And so it was that the girl had proven itself to have dominance over the noble for the moment. Her knight took off, not at the kind of speeds he moved at back on Cactus Island when they were in a rush to deal with the pirate incident but still quite fast and Akemi didn’t have a problem with her fun lasting for a bit longer this time. The forest had an entirely different look when you were moving at this kind of pace, not quite fast enough for I to blur but the medley of plants and colourful insects blending together into a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes was quite the sight to behold. It was almost a shame when the trip came to an end in the clearing though that wasn’t near enough to take the massive smile off her face or stop her random giggling. And when Mr Akame mentioned that she could just ask whenever she wanted another experience like that, well for the entire time she spent running laps around the clearing, she was practically floating on air, her mind lost in dreams and barely moving faster than a brisk walk – which was probably for the best all things considered. By the time she drifted back to normalcy and managed to compose herself again, she saw that in the meantime Mr Akame had managed to construct a large obstacle course in the middle of the clearing. What it meant that she was paying so little attention that she missed that notwithstanding, Akemi was quite impressed that he made something so professional looking in such a short space of time. Clearly, he was talented in multiple fields. As he explained the course she fully settled back into a proper determined state; she wasn’t going to disappoint him again. Akemi ran up to the course first, taking it at a sprint as she began to hum an upbeat tune, her body seemingly speeding up just a bit more as she hopped between the hoops without much trouble, using the rhythm of her song to fuel the rhythm of her movement and get her jump timing perfectly in sync. The log would under normal conditions be a bit of a problem for her but she learned from that embarrassing incident with the dummy and came prepared this time. The claws on her gloves served her well as a grip to make scaling the log quite a bit easier than it would have been otherwise. Getting down was a bit more of a problem though. Frankly looking down from that kind of height had her a bit nervous but what would Mr Akame think if she went and chickened out now after she said that she didn’t intend to burden him? She took a deep breath and swung down from the log, promptly losing her grip and slipping about halfway down before she managed to sink her fingers into the log enough to come to a near stop. As it was she still more slid down the log than climbed down but it wasn’t to the point that she risked actually injuring herself so she considered that a small victory in itself. Now for the poles, there was going to be a serious problem here. The high poles looked quite….well high and Akemi was not the tallest person ever. Then there were the low poles, of course she could get under them but….but she’d have to crawl under them. Akemi did not crawl on the ground like a servant, not since she was a baby that couldn’t walk and even then she doubted that her parents actually let her crawl about. No, it was seriously beneath her but then that would be an entirely horrible reason not to finish the course. It would wound her pride to quit but also wound it to go through, she was between a rock and a hard place here. Well one of the things a proper lady needed to be good at was working around unpleasant situations like this and if it came to it she’d sooner at least try than give up before she started. Decision made, Akemi took off again, jumping for and just managing to get herself over the first high bar even if her foot ended up getting caught and she nearly ended up on her face. Somehow though she caught herself on her hands and as she tumbled over came upon a solution to her crawling dilemma; she wasn’t crawling anywhere but rolling beneath the pole, now that looked proper and elegant enough. Make the best out of difficulty and turn strife to an advantage, her mother drilled that into her and she could see the wisdom in those words for these kinds of situations. Like this, she was able to build a proper momentum to get through that potential death trap to her ego and come before an old enemy, the dummies again. These dummies were quite a bit sturdier and well made compared to the others but on the good side she didn’t need to destroy these, just hit them a lot with rocks which right now sounded like it would be quite therapeutic. Just the memory of that humiliation from earlier was more than enough to get her in the mood to do some damage and she might have tossed those rocks with a bit too much enthusiasm given that slivers of wood were breaking off from some of her throws. Still she felt a bit better when she moved on to the last stretch, a simple sprint was nothing after all the jumping and scaling and innovation she had to come up with for the others. She arrived at the start sweaty with quite a few smudges over her clothes, what might be a bit of tears in the material – that would definitely be from when she ended up initially skidding down the log which was a bit worrisome given that her training clothing was quite sturdy. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off a bit she could feel what felt like a couple bruises beneath her clothing too, she might have skidded down a bit faster than she thought that she did. Her hair was definitely a mess, she could see the loose strands hanging in front of her eyes and from that also see just how much dirt she got in there from rolling about on the ground what made her think that was a good idea? Her hands were starting to twitch a bit as years of obsession over keeping orderly at all times were rising up to make her at least attempt to fix things, a small comb popping out of the sleeves of her clothing and running through her locks to restore some kind of neatness. She couldn’t do much about the rest but she could leave that alone for now (oh but she was going to have a long cleaning session when she let herself pay attention to the rest of her; it might be a good idea to avoid reflections until they were done). She’d also learned from before that Mr Akame wasn’t going to actually comment until everyone ran the course so she turned her attention to the others to see how they fared. |

Danielle was too full of excitement to be able to take in much of what Akemi was saying, but it didn't help that her speech was muffled in the first place. All the mermaid caught was something about horses and then something about Zei being a knight, information that quickly became jumbled in her nonsensical little mind. However she came to the conclusion she did was a mystery, but it didn't stop her from reaching it somehow. "Wait... So if Mr Akame's a horse... but he's also a knight... does that make him a centaur?" Leon merely sighed upon hearing this, but immediately became more preoccupied with what the captain had last said. He said that Dan and Akemi could ride him, but surely that doesn't mean that- Leon's fears came true at that point, for it was then that Zei sped off and left the two males behind. It wasn't a very fast pace, one that most people could keep up with if they tried, but unfortunately speed was an area that the less powerful of the two was not particularly developed in. "Wait! Don't leave me!" He desperately shouted as he began to run at a pace barely fast enough to keep up with the wolf man. Why would the girls get a ride and not me? How sexist. During the short ride to the clearing, Dan had taken the time to turn around and laugh at her "friend" the entire time as though it was absolutely hilarious that he had to get there under his own steam. And it wasn't light giggling either, it was enough to get her gasping for breath and to nearly fall off on multiple occasions. Whether she did this to annoy Leon or because she really did find it hilarious could only be known by her, but either way it didn't help the boy's mood. What it did help was his eagerness to catch up to Dan due to his growing hostility towards her, which in turn made him try a lot harder to go faster. Despite his efforts this was not much faster, though luckily his large stamina pool allowed his to stay standing by the time the group reached the clearing. Dan and Akemi both dismounted once signalled by Zei, and were also kindly offered more rides if they asked. Predictably, this rejuvinated the constantly high spirits of the mermaid who was now running around in circles to avoid getting caught by Leon. "I'll be sure to ask soon!" She shouted between breaths, nimbly avoiding the sluggish grabbing attempts from her pursuer. The girl soon changed direction and headed to the edge of the clearing once her idol/captain announced that they should all do laps, a persistant Leon still hot on her tail. However, his stamina far outclasses hers and so it wasn't long before Kosoi gloriously overtook and tripped up his rival. A great big smile was pasted on his face as he ran past her, waving in sarcasm. The next activity was soon officially revealed as an obstacle course, but it wasn't hard for the crew to realise what it was during its construction stage. It was impressively made despte the lack of time and resources, consisting of hoops and logs and many other hurdles that had to be overcome in order to progress onto the next stage of training. It didn't seem to be anything that could stop Akemi though, for she eagerly went first to try her luck on the course. The civilised bounty hunter made the hoops look easy, gracefully manoeuvering between them with little effort. She lost some momentum upon reaching the log, but quickly regained her confidence and used her claws to aid her climb up. The way down was a little iffy along with the poorly executed jump over a high bar and a roll beneath a low one. Finally came her rock marksmanship skills against some dummies and then the final sprint to the finish. The girl came out of the course the messiest that Dan or Leon had ever seen her. With a target to beat, Danielle took the initiative and challenged the course next. The hoops proved to be no problem for the mermaid, hopping accurately between them at a decent speed. However, the vertical log stumped her a bit. She didn't have claws like Akemi to climb it with, so what would she do? After a second or two of thinking, Dan chose the simple option of monkey-climbing her way up. It wasn't a particularly graceful or ladylike way of doing it, but the girl never really was graceful or ladylike. It got the job done and that's what matters, though it was slower than Akemi. The way down didn't exhibit much elegance either, for it consisted only of hugging the pole and sliding down. Thankfully she had yet to make any major slip-ups like the first competitor had, but there was still much of the course left to go. The high and low bars were similarly tricky, and Dan only made it over the high ones by vaulting over them rather than clearing them completely. Then came the target practice dummies, the area that the mermaid was most confident about. Without pausing or stopping for breath, she picked up some rocks and hit the heads five out of six times. This was due to her exhaustion, which really showed when Danielle dragged herself to sprint to the finish line. Next to test his mettle was Leon, who proceeded to run up to the hoops only to clip his foot on a rock and fall flat on his face before even reaching them. "Good job" |

Hunter was alone, Akemi and Dan had raced off on Zei and he had guessed that he and Leon would follow, Leon however had began to run after Zei in a hopeless attempt to catch up to them. He then had been left behind. The endless noises that came with travelling with his current crew dissapeared and he was left with nothing but the sounds of the sea and the forest in his ears. He stayed absolutely motionless for a few seconds to enjoy the comparative silence before realising he would soon be completely left behind with little hope of finding them again if he didn't follow soon. Hunter moved towards Zei's weapon and quickly plucked it from the ground, noting the sleek design and the ease with which he could pull it out. He held the weapon in an outstretched arm and noted its lightness, imagining how it could be used to maximum effect. The weapon led him to thinking, he had pretty much mastered using his spear so would it be worth branching out his weapon knowledge, he would stay within the pole weapon family but maybe experiment a bit with others. There's loads to choose from so why shouldn't he try some of them out. Hunter shook his head vigorousely to clear his thoughts while retaining his ideas in the back of his mind and began to do a fast jog in the direction his companions had headed in, passing through the small amount of jungle that seperated him from his companions before emerging in a medium sized clearing taken up by a rather impressive forest made assault course. Hunter appeared just as Akemi finished her lap of the course, she looked like she had been through hell by her standards. Hunter walked over to Zei and stuck his halberd into the ground next to him before watching where Danielle was lining up in preperation to do the course. Hunter took a few seconds to analyse the course for himself, trying to figure out how he could conquer each challenge presented in it and looking for anything that might be difficult for him to overcome. The only difficulty he found was the vertical log, he had only a few ideas on how to get over it and none of them very quick or easy. He put his thoughts to the side once again as Danielle began her run on the course, the rings were the first object in her path but she dealt with them quickly and without using any unnecessary energy that she might need for later in the course. The vertical log seemed to be a problem for her, she stopped briefly before monkey climbing straight up it and hugging the pole while sliding down. The high and low bars she managed by vaulting her way over the high ones, she then launched rocks at the dummies, hitting 5 out of the 6 dummies before doing a rather exhausted sprint to the end. She looked fairly worn out on reaching the end, but still looking slightly better off than akemi. Danielle's less than competent sidekick though had much more trouble with the course than both of the others, this trouble mainly being that before he even started the course he fell flat on his face. Hunter realised that everyone had had a go at the course apart from him, taking this in he took his run up to the course, flying through the hoops easily and dropping next to the vertical log. Hunter shimmied up the vertical log, not the easiest way to get up but easiest one that he could see. He followed Danielle's example and hugged the pole while sliding down it, this way gained him a lot of splinters but got him down in the end. Using his pole as a vault he easily cleared the high barriers while dive rolling under the lower ones. Coming out from the other side his exhaustion finally started to catch up with him, his movements were slowed as he launnched his ammunition at the target, hitting 4 of the targets before breaking into a much reduced sprint to the finish line. Reaching the line he took a short break to regain his breath using techniques he had been taught, now that everyone had completed the course provided Hunter wondered what would be next in the training regime Zei had planned. |

Watching the varying attempts at the course Zei now had a much better idea of what kind of training would suit each of his new protégés, but first there was one thing he had to do before handing out the assigned exercises. ”Good work everyone, like before I will give you all a demonstration of how I would clear this course” Making two small jumps from side to side to get his body a bit softened up he then set off, swiftly moving through the hoops like they weren’t even there he arrived at the log and without even slowing down he leaped up toward it, grabbing it a bit more than halfway up before using his arms to throw himself upward, doing a somersault before landing on top of the log with his feet first, looking down he judged the distance before simply walking off the log and letting gravity do the rest, as he impacted the ground he went into a roll to break the fall before moving on to the high and low section. Leaping over the high parts he did a near copy of Akemis manoeuvre as he rolled under the low ones to minimize the loss of speed. Arriving at the throwing part his hands moved on their own as each rock hit dead centre of the dummies ‘heads’, not that it was a particularly challenging task for him since he had designed it with his new crew in mind and not himself. Sprinting back to the start he felt that the course had been a good way to clear his head and thinking up suitable ways to improve his crews capabilities. First he turned to Leon ”Leon, you will be running laps around this course, it is aimed to work on what you already have, your durability, run for as long as you can before resting for at least one hour, then do it again for the rest of today, I assume we will be staying here for some time so schedule in at least one day of rest in which you may work on those interesting inventions of yours for every two days spend running, there is no need to make progress there but it is to make sure your mind isn’t left behind in training” Then he turned to Hunter ”As for you I will first demonstrate what I want you to do” Walking up to one of the leftover branches and picked it up, he quickly cleared it of leaves and smaller twigs before using some leftover reed rope to tie some rocks to both ends, making sure it was heavier than a normal spear or even his own halberd before first making a spinning move with it in front of himself, talking as he demonstrated ”Do this for at least one hour every morning and evening, it will vastly improve the muscles you use when making complex polearm techniques” Stopping the spinning he then took it in his right hand before making a thrusting motion with it forward ”As you are a spear user this is likely your most common move in combat, practise two hundred of these as fast as you possibly can right after the spinning every morning and evening, it will be interesting to see how much faster you can execute a basic attack eventually, for the core of a spear is not fancy techniques but to stab the enemy before the enemy stabs you. If you feel you need it I will also teach you ‘proper’ techniques toward the end of our stay here, if this stick breaks just ask me to make another or do so yourself” ¨Handing over the stick with stones to Hunter he then added his final instructions to the polearm user ”And you will accompany Leon on his daily runs for four hours every midday, if Leon is resting you do it on your own and just like him when you get exhausted rest for one hour before resuming, rest time is nor counted in your daily four hours. The rest of the day you have off to do what you will. For the rest of today simply accompany Leon and build on your overall physique” Next he turned to Danielle ”Miss Danielle, for four hours at any time of the day of your choosing you are to shadow fight, if you are not familiar with the exercise it entails you battling a duel against an imaginary opponent, imagine them doing punches you have to avoid, openings you can exploit and basically anything a real person might do, try to vary their moves for maximum effect, this will work on your skill and speed in a fight” He then picked up more rocks and leftover makeshift rope, tying stones into the rope he then made several lengths of it before handing them all to Dan ”However you will do this while wearing lengths of this around your upper arms and midsection, if any of it breaks just ask me to make more. You are to add in one day of rest and one day of running with Leon and Hunter, you will wear these lengths even when running, whenever they start to feel too light tell me and I will add more weight to them, for the rest of today simply do running” He had intentionally saved Akemi for last but now it was her turn to get instructions ”Lady Akemi, I will personally oversee your training as you wished an overall improvement across the board, first and foremost as you might suspect do the running with the others, you will do this for today and today only. As for tomorrow I will have something special for you to do” With his last cryptic words he then turned to all of his protégés rather than them individually ”If you are wondering why all of you are doing running today it is because I need to scout this island for potential dangers and this clearing seems safe enough for now” That his last words he awaited them all to begin with the running, although he had an odd feeling they would have to do a lot more than basic training on this island. As he thought so a sudden explosion was heard from the mountains around them, it seemed to be some kind of volcanic eruption. It was over almost as fast as it had started and none of the wildlife seemed frightened, well wasn’t that interesting. Now he wanted to find out what was up with this island even more. |

The comb’s teeth kept getting tangled in her hair and other things that had gotten into it that Akemi was trying her best not to think about. Clearly this was failing as she was still pulling out leaves and twigs and trying to scrape out dirt even when Danielle went up to the start of the course. While she could leave the rest of her body alone (mainly due to not having a choice in the matter but that was besides the point) her hair was her absolute pride and that she just couldn’t let slide. She could still multitask quite well though and was watching the others head through the course as she adjusted her appearance to lean more towards close to acceptable rather than her likely horrific look right now. Meanwhile the mermaid had hopped through the hoops with about as much ease as she did and did some kind of odd climbing technique to get over the log that Akemi was certain that she was never going to attempt; she’d probably die of embarrassment before she made it more than a couple meters with that kind of stunt. Her means of getting down though, maybe Akemi should have just done that and saved herself a few bruises and torn up suit. She did feel a bit better when she saw that Danielle didn’t have an easier time with the bars either and by the time she made it to the finish line she looked pretty worn out, especially given that by this time Akemi herself was looking quite a bit better with some rest. That this calm was due to cooling her obsessive nature over her appearance slightly with some superficial work was beside the point really. Leon though….well he tried his best Akemi was sure. It was just a small…setback right? Akemi thought that it might be best to just not say anything and give him the most reassuring smile she could fake – and she could do a very excellent one in her own not very humble opinion. She was fairly sure that any words she said would make things worse for him. After that incident their other polearm user – Hunter he said his name was? – took a run at the course and just like with the training dummies on the ship, he pretty much coasted through the obstacles, at one point using that weapon of his to just skip the entire pole section by vaulting over the thing. Thinking about it, given how the others did Akemi was pretty sure that she ended up making the least impressive showing yet again; the only one who actually did worse didn’t even do the course technically which did not make her feel any better. Mr Akame’s run at the course just left her in awe. Obviously he would have no trouble at all at something he designed himself but did he just somersault over that massive log?! He did and he took that fall like it was a short drop for him. He even rolled under the lower poles like she did although the execution was clearly worlds apart; Akemi knew that she didn’t look near that graceful when she was doing it. She couldn’t help but to stare wide eyed as he jogged back looking no different than when he started. At this time Mr Akame had started with his personal evaluations which turned out to be training advice now that he knew what they could do. As he moved on to the others, Akemi started to grow worried. She knew that she wasn’t the best at the course by a long shot but was it so bad that he needed more time to phrase the badness properly? Maybe, was he rethinking letting her come along with him? Wait no, but he did agree to let her come along and Mr Akame was too much of a knight to go back on his word like that, but still if she really ended up being nothing more than dead weight…. In the midst of her internal panic she very nearly missed what Mr Akame told her to do but the words did eventually sink in past the haze of confusion and worry running amok within her mind. Did he just say that she wasn’t getting kicked out? That she was going to get some special training from her knight later on?! Wait a minute though…did that mean that she was just that horrible that she needed that much help? No, no, be positive, she got to spend more time with her fuzzy knight and she certainly wasn’t hopeless, she’d make sure of that. “Of course Mr Akame!” With her new optimistic slant on things Akemi took off with a spring in her step, not running too fast; this was more for endurance and she didn’t want to get herself even dirtier than before, but still with a decent pace. |

Ignoring the sarcastic comment from the mermaid, Leon quickly got back up and attempted the first part of the course. He had seen both Danielle and Akemi clear the hoops with ease, but unfortunately he wasn't quite as fluid in his movements as they were. Even so he would not let a pair of females outclass him, empowering him to make it through the obstacles after a bit of effort. Next was the log, which he knew was way to high to clear in some extravagent way. Instead, adopting Dan's monkey climbing method seemed to be the next best thing and so that was what he did, albeit in a more clumsy and slow way. The way down was also tackled through use of someone else's means, for he chose to slide down despite the risk of splinters. Leon then came to the hurdle-logs, which were completed by climbing over the high ones and crawling under the low ones. The dummies were tackled even more horribly, hitting the heads five times only after eleven attempts. But despite his consistantly underwhelming performance so far, his sprint to the finish wasn't so bad. Unlike all the other competitors, he wasn't very out of breath and looked as though he could do the same course again straight away. Hunter was the next to take part, darting through the hoops and up the log in a much faster time than the last person. His way down was a simple slide like just about everyone else, though he made mincemeat out of the hurdles in a revolutionary way. His pole was used to vault over them while he rolled under the low ones, proving his competence and revealing some of his unseen skills to the rest of the crew. While his athletic ability was great, he didn't hit the dummies as easily as Dan and his sprint to the finish was slowed by exhaustion. Seeing that everyone had gone, Zei then chose to demonstrate how the course was meant to be completed. Everyone knew even before he started that it would be nothing to him, foresight that was proven right as he shot through the hoops and somersaulted onto the log. This was folled by a simply fall down that was softened by a roll, along with leaps and rolls to get past the hurdles. The dummies were hit every time and the sprint back was finished without tiring, even giving the impression that he hadn't tried his hardest. Leon hardly had time to gape in awe before his next instructions were given out, in the form of the training routine he would be using. Two days running for a total of four hours per day, and one day inventing. It wasn't so bad, though the fatigue could slowly build up as he went on. However he wasn't about to waste any time, and so he immediately got to running. "Yessir" While Leon was starting his training, Danielle was paying very little attention to the routines that Zei was explaining. She was off in her own world as usual, this time closely observing a butterfly as it flew nearby. But as per usual, the girl came back to reality once her captain finally started talking to her. She was told to spend her time from tomorrow onwards shadow fighting, a term that Dan was very confused about until Zei realised he would have to explain it to her. She simply couldn't get round the concept of fighting her shadow, with it being flat and all. However, this training would be done while weighed down by increasing numbers of rocks tied to her. She would have to wear them always when exercising, even on hers days of running with Leon and Hunter. "Gotcha, wear my shadow and fight rocks. Sounds easy enough." "Not quite, guess again." Shouted Leon from the edge of the clearing. |

Slipping into his full Fenrir form Zei set off to scout the immediate area surrounding his chosen training spot, it wouldn’t do to have him move away only for something dangerous to accost his crew. Doing like he had done before he ran in a half circle, however this time the centre of it was the clearing and not the beach. He felt a multitude of odd and unfamiliar scents as he moved but nothing seemed like it was dangerous enough to pose a threat to his crew. He did however spot something most curious, it was what could most accurately be called a dinosaur, it was a large one with a long neck, it didn’t look like it was out to do anything but eat leaves though so he left it alone. After some more early scouting he judged that nothing out of it dangerous was close enough to pose a real threat, he did however spot what looked like some kind of smaller carnivorous dinosaur, well there were little risk of it doing anything other than liven up the training a bit so he left even that one alone. The carnivore was around waist height for an average human and frankly put looked rather playful, Zei didn’t see any others of its kind nearby so it was most likely alone. While a curious sight the red eyed hunter didn’t dwell on it and quickly moved on to scout a wider area. He didn’t move too far away from the clearing since he only needed to make sure nothing dangerous would appear when he went deeper into the island for Akemis special training. He already knew exactly what to do with that but he would have to see if he could find a certain something deeper inland for it. With the scouting done he ran back to the clearing, calling out to Akemi ”Lady akemi...woof, if you wouldn’t mind I’d like you to climb up on my back with my halberd, We need to…Woof, find a suitable training spot” Waiting patiently for Akemi to do what he had asked he then set off toward the centre of the island, he hoped to find what he looked for there. note on carnivore |
