It was a beautiful day, well as beautiful as days ever got in the grand line where weather could change on a whim. Honestly Zei was amazed they had managed to navigate that last cyclone, he still couldn’t understand exactly how they had managed that. The fresh recruits had really showed their worth, although due to that he hadn’t really had time to get to know them yet.

Looking out over the sea he noted that the weather hadn’t changed in quite some time now, perhaps they were getting closer to the next island. He had no idea what kind of place they were heading to, not many first time grand line travellers tended to have that kind of information, especially if they came from the blues. Well, he did know about the more famous places like fishman island, the marine hq and impel down. But that was about it, he had been focused more on his next bounty than anything else during his travels and had paid little attention to grand line rumours.

Stretching up from his position at the bulwark he felt what could almost be described as a tropical breeze. They must be heading to a summer island, probably. He wasn’t too familiar with Grand line weather outside of the few islands he had been to personally after all.

He wondered if the lady Akmei might have any information on the grand line, probably not as she was from the blues but it might not hurt to ask about it politely sometime. The hyperactive due he doubted had any information and Hunter was something of an enigma. Then again he had used to be like that himself a couple of years back.

Letting out a small sigh he wondered not for the first time if his old comrades were even still alive, he had seen so many come and go along the way, not to mention those who died. Speaking of which, he intended to make sure that fate did not befall his new comrades, perhaps by the time they reached their next destination he could teach them a few things. He could see potential in Akemi, Hunter, Danielle and to some degree Leon, even if he suspected the young man would have a slower growth than that of the other three.

Sadly the trio of enthusiastic followers he had gained had close to Zero potential so he doubted training them would do much good, as sad as it was some people just didn’t have the ‘spark’

Well at least he would do his best to prepare his new protégés for the rigors of the grand line, he could not be there every time something happened and so they would have to be able to protect themselves should they need it. The dangers of the grand line were nothing like what you found in the blues, all of the most dangerous pirates flocked to the place. He believed they if possible were on one of the more troublesome routes. For he did know about the various paths through the pirate graveyard, he had only heard rumours but it seemed they would all be converging later on.
So until that happened he would make it his task to make his crew strong enough to face whatever the world could throw at them.

Standing up reinvigorated by this thought he turned around and slowly made his way toward the door to the main hall, he would tell his crew about his decision now that it was made as well as perhaps getting to know them a bit better.

Akemi was still wrapped up in blissful slumber, enjoying finally getting a decent amount of rest since she started travelling around with Mr Akame. It wasn’t as if she wasn’t happy to be a member of the crew or anything, but it did take some getting used to, being on a different ship around different people. That and admittedly, she still wasn’t used to the crazy weather of the Grand Line. This was certainly the first time she’d gotten mixed up with a cyclone.

The weather was starting to behave itself now though evidenced by the rays of light constantly battering her face despite her body’s best attempts at rolling out of the path. It was all for vain though, she was now awake enough that there was no real point staying curled up in all that fluff.

That was another adjustment she had to make since on this ship. Like her mother told her about, there was a difference between her normal pampered if restrictive life and the loss of her luxuries while with the Shining Tear. Of course it wasn’t much of a loss since she made sure to take all of her pillows with her. Even now, she wasn’t actually on the room’s actual bed, but in a nest of sorts made from a large array of said pillows and blankets arranged just right. Sure she had her standards, but she could make less into more with a bit of resourcefulness.

Over the past few days she had tried to get to know the others on the ship a bit better but, well when everyone’s busy trying to keep the ship from getting torn apart by crazy weather you didn’t have too much socializing time. She had never met a mermaid before and then Mr Akame, well he was unique in of himself. She owed him her current freedom and was determined to prove herself useful. She might not have been the best fighter but she was practically raised to be a capable hostess and while she’d rather not think about the original point of that, she could at least get to know the others and keep morale up.

With this in mind, she really needed to get her day started. The rituals of preparing herself for the outside world were second nature at this point, and after everything was properly in place she stepped out of her room into the main hall, now faced with the question of where to start her search.

Quiet. It was a first for quite some time on the Shining Star, and it definitely wouldn't last long. Up until now the cause of this lack of quiet was not infact due to Danielle as some (Leon) may have predicted, but instead because of cataclysmic weather conditions that left the entire crew constantly on the go pretty much since their departure. Grand Line weather was not to be underestimated, under any circumstance. Cyclones especially. However, the current climate was a possible exception to this rule. It didn't take a genius to know that the atmosphere stabilised once and island was in close proximity, even if what it stabilised to was blistering heat capable of being more lethal than inconsistent weather. Luckily, whatever island they were closing in on did not seem to have particularly horrible conditions, rather a warm temperature synonymous with jungles and possibly deserts.

In response to this nice change, a different noise-maker wasted no time in filling in the silence. Stepping as stealthily as a horse with whoopie cushions strapped to it's feet, a figure crept it's way into one of the rooms in the peaceful ship. Asleep in said room was a teenager possessing golden hair, his mouth wide open from snoring and one hand down his pants. Without waking this boy with unclean sleeping habits, the figure began slowly dragging him out of the room. It didn't take long for the pair to reach the deck, where the tall captain of the crew stood gazing out at the sapphire sea. Whether he noticed the duo or not mattered not, for the abductor continued to pull the dreaming pirate without pausing for even half a second. Leon, who had miraculously still not been woken from the sound or sensation of being dragged across the ship, was quickly hoisted over the edge of the ship as soon as a certain mermaid made it there. It was this that woke him up.

His eyes opening slowly at first, young Kosoi's brain had yet to realise the situation he was in even as his eyes scanned the vast ocean infront of him. However after a few seconds this organ of knowledge finally started playing, shown by a sudden widening of his eyelids and flailing of his limbs.

"W-what? Dan pull me up now!" He shouted as the mermaid swung him left to right playfully. Around his ankle a rope was tied, and holding the other end of this rope was Danielle.

"How did you know it was me?" Asked the girl, ignorant to the cries of help from her friend.

"Nevermind that!" Leon Screamed; he didn't need to look to know who was pulling of an act such as this. "Pull me up first!"

"But you're bait."

"Bait for what?!?"

"Fish?"

If someone were to look at the man sat on the back of the giant boaat sailing on by, they would think he was asleep, but little would they know was that the man wasn't asleep. Hunter sat on the back of the shining star, as he had learned this boat to be called, meditiating. Closing his eyes to the world but reaching out with his other senses, listening to everything around him for practice. When out tracking a pirate you needed to be able to hear pirates as well as see them, because when you can't see them you usually cnt find them either therefore the other senses must become involved.

The only thing to be heard now though, was the screams and shouts of one of his teammates dangling off the side of the boat, that one sound drowned out the others that he usually enjoyed listening to. After their terrible luck with weather he had thought that the blonde boy would be sleeping, and he didn't have to guess who exactly was doing this to him. Their captain was way too intelligent for that kind of horseplay.

The other two members of this crew on the other hand were the kind that would do this. Hunter hadn't really spent much time finding out about his new companions, they had been too wrapped up in fending off the wild weather that had seemed to accompany no matter what direction they went in an unsuccesful attempt to avoid it. He knew nothing of his crew mates apart from a small bit of information on their leader, Hunter's job relied on information, information was power and power was something he needed greatly to continue his job in these uncharted territories.

Realising that the noise coming from the other side of the boat was slowly increasing he concluded he wasn't going to get enough peace to continue with his sense practice, so slowly and calmly standing up he moved towards the hatch that would allow him inside the boat. Once inside he moved further into the boat, the sound of screaming slowly getting quieter and quieter until he could not hear it at all. Hunter opened the door to the room he had chosen as his own Hunter unstrapped his spear sheathe and threw it onto the bed, normally then he would have continued with the training he had just not been allowed to finish, but instead prioitising he drew out his small weather beaten information booklet. Inside the booklet he wrote of the weathers they had experienced, having been unable to do so until now he took several minutes to write them all down along with a description. He also made a diagram of the boat he lived on and its access points, firing points and possible weaknesses, you needed to be ready for any eventuality so he constantly recorded his surroundings so that he could review them at a later date for jobs or just if the situation requires it.

Stopping dead in his tracks Zei looked at the odd sight of the little Dan dragging a still sleeping Leon across the deck, how the young man could keep sleeping while treated like that eluded the red eyed man. Another thing he did wonder was how the otherwise frail looking young mermaid was capable of lifting Leon like that; she must be hiding more strength than what Ze had given her credit for.

The pairs antics did bring a slight smile to his face, it was refreshing to have someone lively around again, it did however make him miss his old navigator Virgil. Shaking his head to clear away the thoughts of times past he instead opted to focus on the here and now. As amusing as the scene in front of him was it really wasn’t advisable, fish in the grand line could be rather…vicious.

Walking closer to Dan he spoke

”Careful, There is very dangerous fish in the Grand Line”

If his hunch about the next island was correct there might be even more dangerous fish than usual in these waters. He wasn’t sure at all but he had heard rumours of islands with a certain climate where ancient creatures still roamed. But that was it, rumours, and from less than reliable sources at that, at the very least they were heading to a tropical island and only that warranted caution. He had visited jungles before and every time there had been creatures around that made regular ferocious animals look downright cuddly.

Standing by the bulwark his pupil and iris-less eyes calmly observed the surface of the water beneath Leon, casually unstrapping S-Nova he let the large halberd rest against the wood of the bulwark. If something dangerous came out he would be ready to deliver swift death to it, and perhaps earn them dinner while they were at it. While the Shining Star did have stored supplies on the third deck those weren’t exactly tasty, preserved food had never been a favourite of Zeis.

While standing there he thought it as good a time as any to tell the two in front of him about his plans for the island they were heading to.

”Miss Danielle, Leon. I have a proposition for the both of you”

Pausing briefly he then continued

”I hope you will agree to giving me the honour of training the both of you in the art of combat. I have enough experience in both weapon and hand to hand combat to believe I may guide you toward developing the potential I can see in you both”

Falling silent he calmly awaited a reply, still making sure to keep an eye on the surface of the water, ready to decapitate monster fish at a moments notice

Akemi knew that she was a sheltered child. She lacked knowledge about most things more normal people did with their free time and came expecting to be confused every now and again. However, no matter how she tried to rationalize it, she couldn’t find any way to consider seeing someone dragging their sleeping friend throughout the ship normal.

How is that not waking him up?

That was the current mystery of the day and out of a mixture of concern and curiosity, Akemi followed after her companions. They walked out onto the deck where Akemi’s attention was drawn to Mr Akame staring out to sea. For all that she knew the most about him compared to everyone else, she still barely knew anything about him beyond his strong sense of justice and being pretty much her knight in shining armour.

Even when he becomes cuddly.

“Ehehehe.”
In the meantime, Miss Danielle had managed to drag Mr Leon to the edge of the boat and was now dangling him like live bait. She gathered all of this from listening to Mr Leon’s yelling, which confirmed that this really wasn’t supposed to be normal behaviour – good, she was really worried that she was that out of touch with average interactions.

Wait, if that wasn’t normal then why was Mr Akame standing over there normally and unconcerned? He was saying something to the two of them and had his halberd out like he was waiting for something but something so likely to end fatally for the unlucky one involved didn’t sound that something that he would willingly go along with. Sure she hadn’t been given any reason to doubt his judgement but….

Concern and curiosity once again winning out, she approached the group just as Mr Akame came to the end of his discussion. “Umm, Mr Akame, is it…normal to use another person for live bait? Not that I’m doubting the two of you but it seems a bit dangerous.”

"Fish? Are you an idiot? You're not gonna catch any fish by dangling me over the edge!"

Yelled Leon, still being supported (just) by the unbelievably cheerful mermaid. While the boy wasn't particularly heavy, with Dan's lack of strength it wouldn't be long before he really was dropped to become fishbait. Despite being so calm the waters were in truth still just as deadly as they were during the terrible storms earlier, for many fearsome fish including the legendary Sea Kings roamed the Grand Line. Luckily, being the inheritor of mermaid genes allowed Danielle to converse with and therefore keep peace with most fish, but this did not include Sea Kings.

However at that moment a fairly small aquatic animal with teeth far to big for it's mouth decided to leap straight out of the sea, passing just centimetres away from Leon before entering the ocean again with a small splash. The two bounty hunters silently watched watched this spectacle before looking at each other, both with very different expressions on their faces.

"Don't even think about it"

The smile on the mermaid's face gradually grew wider, but an interruption from Zei delayed her planned actions momentarily.

"Careful, There is very dangerous fish in the Grand Line." Warned the captain, the true meaning to this read easily by Leon but unfortunately not by Dan. Unfortunately for her, the womanizer had been using the time in which the girl's back was turned wisely. He had managed to climb halfway back onto the boat without being noticed, but once his presence was revealed a certain someone immediately attempted to push him back down again with little success at doing so.

It didn't take long until the halberd-weilder spoke up again, this time with a much more interesting topic. Both of the young bounty hunters stopped their struggling and layed eyes on their commander, wondering what it was he was about to propose to them. During this pause one of the duo was almost completely frozen, but Leon was intelligent enough to make it fully onto the boat before resting his attention completely on the red-eyed man.

"I hope you will agree to giving me the honour of training the both of you in the art of combat. I have enough experience in both weapon and hand to hand combat to believe I may guide you toward developing the potential I can see in you both" While this offer was completely unexpected, it made rather a lot of sense. The difference in strength between Zei and the pair of misfits was unbelievably massive, and though they two did not know the battle capabilities of the other crew members it it was extremely unlikely that they came anywhere near to that of their captain. Therefore, it seemed a good idea for him to pass on his knowledge to them and shorten this gap somewhat, especially since there were only five people in the crew.

The answer was obvious, though Danielle was much more eager than Leon.

"Yes! Master Akame Teacher Sir!"

Noticing the arrival of Lady Akemi Zei gave a quick courteous gesture to acknowledge her arrival, her question was a wholly legitimate one as well. Had he not experienced this kind of lively banter before he might have put a stop to the impromptu fishing the moment he discovered it, however as nothing too dangerous seemed to come out of it other than a rather harmless piranha-like fish he did not do so.

”It is not normal and I would advise against doing anything of the sort in the future”

Giving Leon and Danielle a stern look as he spoke, while his proposition seemed to have culled the antics for now as the both of them seemed rather eager to get some training he would have to keep an eye on them in case they attempted something truly dangerous. That did remind him that he had yet to tell Akemi about his intentions, turning back so that he faced her he spoke again.

”It is my intention to give these two guidance in unlocking their potential, if you so wish I will extend the same offer to you”

Moving his gaze back to Dan and Leon Zei gave the two a scrutinizing look, determining in what areas they most needed training as well as how to best utilize their strengths. The most imminent need as far as Danielle was concerned was her lack of physical strength, he wasn’t quite sure how she had pushed what she had out of that frame so far but it could not go on for long without risking serious harm to her body. She seemed agile enough and by the looks of things had a solid understanding of her surroundings. Leon he wasn’t quite sure what to do with, he was most certainly average in most aspects even if he seemed to have an uncanny resistance to physical abuse.

The best way to proceed with them would most probably be basic training to start with, he could move on to something more advanced once he had a better idea of what they responded well to and what they did not.

Looking out over the sea again he noticed that they were approaching an island, while they still had some time to go to get there yet he could still determine the type of island from this distance. It was covered in a lush jungle with a few high areas that was probably a mountain of some sort.

”We will soon arrive, for now do some warm up exercises and make sure to stretch”

Quickly doing a short demonstration of the kind of exercises he had in mind, they were the basic kind most people would be familiar with if they had ever done body training. He wanted them to be properly warmed up before moving on to something more taxing.

”I will find you some more suitable wear”

With that statement he went below deck to see if he could find a gi of some kind, that was what he had worn during his apprentice days and so it would seem the most appropriate clothing for his new apprentices to wear.

After a short search he actually found just what he was looking for, a set of old gi lying around in the storage deck, they must have been a remnant from when Virgil was doing one of his many challenges.

Gathering them up he moved back to the main deck to see how the warming up was faring

So the whole using living bait to fish with really wasn’t normal or particularly sane; she would admit that she was quite worried about that to herself. Mr Leon certainly didn’t consider it quite safe either with how quickly he scaled that rope. That was news that she no longer cared too much about though beyond making a mental note to keep an eye on Miss Danielle lest she end up mixed up in any of her more dangerous antics.

Now though her main interest was on Mr Akame and his offer of personal training. Sure she had quite a lot of experience with various trainers throughout her life during her attempts to become self sufficient enough to get her parents to ease up on her restrictions but her memory of those times involved either dealing with people too afraid of the potential consequences of injuring her to actually do anything, or those crazier ones that managed to run her ragged but they did get her stronger at least.

Given that this time she’d be getting trained personally by her own knight though, she had a far better view of how this would end; given how powerful he was on his own, whatever he used clearly did work. She would not become like those silly princesses and nobles who couldn’t even fend off a simple ruffian mook; she’d be the lady of war who could walk with her knight.

All this excitement was threatening to overflow but the work of years of practice came through, letting her school her features into a calm smile befitting her stature. “Well if it’s an offer from you, I gladly accept. I leave myself in your care.”

He left them with instructions to do some of the beginner warm up exercises to get ready while he headed off to find proper clothing. She was able to wait until he went into the ship before she lost her grip on her mask, going from the refined noble lady to a giggling teenager in seconds flat. But she couldn’t help herself, getting trained by Akame of all people? Was this how people felt when they got sudden attention from one of their idols?

What did he mean about suitable wear though?
She looked in the direction that her knight said he spotted the island from, leaning against the edge and straining her eyes to make out the slowly approaching land mass. All she could make out from here was a large mass of green – probably a forest of some kind. Well her current clothing wasn’t exactly training material, and maybe he was worried about her ruining a good kimono on training.

Though given her rather large clothing supply, it was pretty much a given that she had a couple of pairs of sturdier gi and the like in there for her practice sessions, but the fact that Mr Akame didn’t pick up on that meant that he likely didn’t think she had one. Well she had the whole noble stereotype to work past and their first meeting involved him basically bailing her out which couldn’t have helped. Things like this were why she had to do more to get to know her companions; if he knew her more he’d know that she did have training gear.

At no point did it register in Akame’s mind that most people didn’t carry around such an absurd amount of clothes, nor could they be expected to have random outfits at any point in time. It did register that Danielle and Leon likely saw her transition from composed to giddy and now concerned, but that she didn’t care too much about – she felt no real need to be on her best behaviour around them. Another concern was the likelihood that he had something that would fit her – given his size compared to hers, it wasn’t likely. Even younger, she couldn’t see their figures matching up very well, though it would mean that she’d get to run around in an outfit of his-

Face now blazing red from where her thoughts were starting to wander off to, she practically dashed back to her room (no one around to tell her to stop running, another small reminder of her newfound freedom) and changed clothing to one of her older training outfits in record time. It wasn’t quite that fast though, as she ran out to find Mr Akame on the main deck already. She could still feel the heat on her face but she didn’t have time to really compose herself right now.

“I-I thought that it would be best to use my own training gi; I wouldn’t want to have to impose on you for clothing on top of everything else. That and it might not be too appropriate for me to be wearing your clothing in the first place. At least not yet.

The offer of training was quickly extended to Akemi also after she made her appearance, which rid Leon of his doubts about whether or not the training would include everyone. However the fifth member of the crew who seemed to be on a very similar wavelength to Zei had yet to show himself, though it was very likely that he would be included too. Not only did he and the captain weild similar weapons they acted and probably even thought alike too, making him the ideal choice for the commander to pass his techniques on to. The only thing seperating them was the difference in skill and Zei's fearsome devil fruit, though Leon could easily see the other member getting hold of one of those too.

Danielle too had great potential, even if her ability to perform mermaid-specific abilities was ignored. While a lot of her physical abilities weren't anything special unless she entered the water, her eyes weren't something to be underestimated. With a bit of training she could probably get her body to catch up to her thinking speed, a force that could prove formidable if her mugenumi was improved on top of that.

For Akemi it was hard to see, since she seemed fairly frail and average at first glance. However, judging by what she had done to the pirates on Cactus Island it became clear that she could hold her own in a fight and strived to surpass herself and others. It wouldn't be particularly hard to correct any flaws in her movements and generally increase her fighting capabilities, though her refined personality could pose a problem.

Leon on the other hand was not very sure about himself. While he knew he possessed the ability to take a large amount of damage before succumbing to an attacker, his only real fighting techniques consisted of throwing vials of dangerous materials around in the hopes of hurting someone. While it was a clever style that was useful against brutish pirates, it required clever setup and planning to use correctly and was very limited in useage. Not only that, but it couldn't be improved by physical training as was likely for Zei to be leading.

The captain soon alerted everyone that they were approaching land, and after a few seconds of scanning the sea both Dan and Leon found what he was talking about. From the distance they were at all that could be identified was green, making it very likely for the island to be some kind of jungle island. Zei also demostrated some warm up stretches that he recommended they perform, and while both of the trainees started on them quickly there was still a small obstacle. They weren't wearing clothes specifically suited for high intensity training, a thought that the commander soon picked up on.

Once he left the deck Danielle let loose a small devilish smile that let Leon instantly deduce her thoughts of continuing 'fishing', but this time he had a backup plan.

"Akemi, if she touches me would you be so kind as to remove her, by force if necessary?" Asked the bounty hunter with a voice layered with charm and a smile of gold.

Hunter was disturbed from his writing by the sound of footsteps, poking his head out of the room he was currently in he saw Zei heading towards the deck with a pair or gi in hand. Hunter stashed away his book and followed their new apparent leader up onto the deck, following and making no attempt to broach a conversation with the man. If he wanted to learn as much as he could about his fellow crewmates he would need to go along with whatever it was they were doing, and that meant getting involved so he could find out what exactly it was they were doing. Judging by the gi in Zei's hand they were probably doing some sort of training, or maybe just some sort of fight to test crewmate against crewmate in an attempt to see who was stronger. Well either way taking part could lead to Zei transferring some small ounce of his fighting techniques to Hunter and training this crew to eventually get near the level he was now, and that was a prospect that Hunter was very much hoping for as the power difference in the crew so far seemed quite substantial.

Once upon the deck one of his theories was proved correct as he found the others doing a series of warm-up stretches, Lady Akemi had donned a different outfit, this one looking much more like training gear than the elegant kimono's usually worn by the lady. The merwoman had just stopped speaking to lady Akemi when Hunter reached the deck, surveying the scene and the view around the boat with the practised ease of someone well used to having to keep a close watch of his surroundings, he ended up at the prow of the ship looking at the island they were rapidly approaching.

The island seemed to be completely covered in leafy, green foliage, there was barely a scrap of land to be seen through the dense blanket of trees, the jungle was complete and untouched. A jungle would be the perfect place to train, somewhere where vicious animals lived and almost everything you could see was poisonous, somewhere where you would either get strong and live, or be weak and die.

After studying the island as well as he could from this distance he turned to face the captain of their band of travellers, for the only one here who could properly call himself a bounty hunter in the grand line was zei, waiting for someone to give him a more complete picture of where they were going, what they were doing and when would they start.

Returning to the deck he noted that Hunter followed behind him, good, he’d wanted to give the silent polearm user some more practical advice ever since he laid his red eyes upon the man. Acknowledging Hunters presence with a brief nod Zei walked up to Danielle, Leon and Akemi. The latter who had somehow already switched into her own gi, how practical, that meant he could give the one meant for her to Hunter, provided the man accepted the training that is. Zei would not force anyone to train if they thought they could handle themselves better without his input.

Listening to Lady Akemis rushed explanation he replied

”It is good that you have your own Gi”

He almost thought he heard her say something after that but the sea breeze drowned it out, or maybe he just mis-heard in the first place, ever since discovering the excellent hearing of his wolf form he believed his regular ears to be sub-par at best.

Turning toward Leon and Danielle he handed them one gi each

”Wear these, it will make things easier for you”

These particular Gi were of a light grey colour and came with white belts, they could be suited to a multitude of body shapes and would not restrict the wearers movement. Walking over to where Hunter stood he noted that the island had become much easier to see by now, they would be arriving shortly but there still was a bit of open water to cover. It would be safe to leave the docking procedure to their new crew-members, well the ones that sadly lacked any sort of potential that is, in fact they seemed incredibly content with just making sure the ship sailed like it was supposed to.

”I have one Gi left for you if you wish to join the others in my guidance”

Leaving the Gi with Hunter he then returned to where he had left Danielle and patiently waited for everyone to finish changing clothes before resuming.

”To start with I will need to get an idea of what each of you are capable of, I will put up a stationary target for each of you to display your skills on”

With those words he went back down to the storage deck, gathering up some wood and pieces from some old supply sacks lying around he had soon fashioned a set of four crude targets each consisting of a wooden pole around a metre and a half in height wrapped in sack-cloth to soften blows against it, each also had two branch-like ‘arms’ with a rolled up piece of sack for a ‘head’. They wouldn’t really stand up to much before falling to pieces but he figured they would do nicely for their intended purpose.

Bundling them up and carrying them over a shoulder he swiftly returned to the deck where his ‘students’ were hopefully waiting for him.

Putting each of the training dolls up with a couple of metres between each on the main deck he made sure they wouldn’t fall over from the natural motions the ship made while on sea. Speaking up with a voice loud enough for everyone to hear him he explained what he had in mind.

”Using the best of your ability destroy one target each, try to vary your attacks and use technique”

Standing back he would observe how each of his new protégés went about taking down these dummies, it would give him more information about what each needed than hours of just watching them move normally.

Mr Akame seemed to accept her explanation and was happy that she was prepared enough to have her own training outfit. He didn’t offer any comments to what she had ended up muttering at the end there; did that mean that he just didn’t hear her or maybe he was being polite about it…she wasn’t sure which one she would prefer honestly but while she could make the odd comment here and there to actively repeat herself would be an offense both to her family pride and her own. At least that was the story that she would go with, yes that would work out fine.

Either way, she did honestly prefer her own clothing to anyone else’s, both because hers was to be blunt far more well made and comfortable and because wearing other people’s clothing….yeah. That said those Gi didn’t look too bad, fairly spacious and sturdy though the grey colour didn’t appeal to her. The blend of reds and yellows in her gi in the pattern of autumn leaves work far better and also pulled double duty in covering up the kinds of stains one tended to get from training nicely.

She did notice that at some point Hunter had shown up again, likely drawn by Mr Akame’s training plans. Danielle was looking like she needed someone to keep an eye on her before Leon ended up over the boat again or used as bait for some other creature on the island they were sailing towards; Leon himself seemed to notice this – which made sense since he was the mermaid’s travelling partner before they all met – and came to her requesting assistance if she tried to turn into potential food again. She did give him bonus points for attempting to do so in the most charming means he could; she’d gotten better charm ‘attempts’ from her times at her parents’ formal parties but that wasn’t a bad thing in his case given how much she generally disliked the fake charm process.

“Of course, I would rather not see you get eaten by anything.”
That would be one scene she could go her life without seeing actually, she wouldn’t even do that to a pirate and if anyone might deserve such a messy fate, it would be them.

In the meantime, Mr Akame had vanished again to the ship’s innards, likely gone for some other training material. She did wonder just what someone of his power would use; maybe some steel reinforced training dummies? No, that would last long against him; it was probably completely made of steel! But then she highly doubted her ability to hit anything to sturdy without ending up breaking something and she didn’t mean anything on the dummy.

Fortunately Mr Akame returned with a far less likely to end with her hurting herself version, one constructed out of wood that looked like it was designed to fall apart with very little effort. Indeed, he explained that the whole point was to try to destroy them in the most skilful way possible. This was probably to see what he was working with before they actually got started which meant that here would be the best time to prove her mettle to her knight.

Akemi walked up to the closest training dummy to herself, observing it was she decided on a plan of action. She was not the most skilled combatant compared to everyone around her most likely, her first real battle having been during that disaster at the docks of Cactus Island, and her music wasn’t about to do anything to a wooden dummy. That said she could actually strike with some force and even without her gloves, she was sure that she could break this thing without making a fool out of herself….she hoped.

Taking a deep breath, Akemi fell into a basic stance she was shown, striking out with her hand at the point where the arm was tied to the pole. The general idea was to strike where the material was weakest but while the arm did get dislodged a bit, it was otherwise was still attached, a fact that had her in an unpleasant mood. Promptly ignoring her decision not to use them, her armoured gloves, meticulously cleaned of all that blood from before, slid out of the sleeves of her gi and onto her hands. Properly attired now she struck out at the makeshift joints as before, the sharp edge combined with her knifehand thrust she was familiar with tearing the cloth and with her pulling back her hand, the material caught, causing the entire dummy to fall to pieces before her.

It wasn’t exactly intentional but Akemi wasn’t going to complain and in fact, she turned her attention back to Mr Akame, waiting for masked anticipation for what he thought.

"Wear these, it will make things easier for you"

Zei handed Danielle and Leon a training gi each, both of a light grey colour with a white belt. They were baggy and very much a one-size-fits-all design, fairly worn and well used. The captain had gone to fetch them while his crew were doing the warm up stretches, and had been followed by the fifth member on his way back up. There was something that both Dan and Leon found strange about the man, though they couldn't quite grasp what it was. He was somehow familiar to them, but where from was an absolute mystery. If they had a proper conversation with him this obstacle may be removed, but the antisocial nature of the other party made this a fairly difficult feat to pull off. Even his name was still unknown to them, a piece of information that would certainly prove useful in discovering his true identity.

Score! Akemi replied to Leon in a way that pleased him very much, to the point that he had to make an effort to hide his excitement. Being told that she would rather not see him get eaten could be (loosely) interpreted as that she doesn't want to see him get hurt. This could then mean that she likes him in full health, and then translated as that she likes him. At least this was what the foolish and lustful young man had going through his head, though it was going through his head alone.

"I thank you for your kindness. I too, shall help you if I see you in danger."

The mermaid was the first to begin changing, and she did so with very little regard for those around her. Zei, Hunter and Leon were all still present on deck as she began stripping down to her underwear. Though she did this infront of Leon on a practically daily basis, the other two were not so used to it and either found it arousing or inappropriate. Still, Dan took no notice of this and continued as though nothing was wrong, for she knew no better. The girl finished changing quickly, completing it with the final touch of changing her legs to a pure white that would match the gi.

Leon also began changing soon after his shameless companion, though he did so with a very dazed look in his eyes. He was nowhere near as fast or efficient as his friend, his attention laying elsewhere. This was because he was very preoccupied with repeatedly sneaking glances over to where Akemi stood in the hopes that she would follow Danielle's example of ignoring decency, even though the chances of her doing so were very low. There were few who were as ignorant of their surroundings as Dan, that was a fact.

Zei soon arrived back on deck with four crude target dummies made of sacks and wooden poles, which he placed apart from each other on the deck. They looked very easy to destroy with a weapon, though unarmed could prove a small challenge.

"Using the best of your ability destroy one target each, try to vary your attacks and use technique"

Akemi was the first to approach one, gaining attention as the others observed to see how well she would do. Her stance changed from casual to battle before she struck a single blow to the an arm joint of the dummy, failing to deal much damage. However, equipping her bladed gloves and striking again with those left the assortment of sacks and sticks in a mess. She tore cleanly through the fabric and dismantled the target in a matter of seconds, setting a baseline for the others to meet.

Danielle was the next to step up, a cheerful smile still pasted on her face as she skipped up to the dummy. Humming an upbeat tune as she did so, the mermaid momentarily lowered herself into a stable stance as she took aim at the target. Her feet were tightly planted to the floor as she delivered a single strike to the body of the dummy, carefully executing the technique to ensure maximum damage with little force applied. Though it did not smash because of the attack, the doll was knocked back into the mast of the ship and practically fell to pieces upon impact. An arm had come completely off, while the other arm and head remained attached by some damaged strands of thread. With that the girl turned around to see who would go next, still humming her happy tune.

Despite being around her almost all the time, Leon was still shocked by the amount of damage the mermaid could do. She simply didn't look physically capable of performing such a feat, no matter how many times he saw it performed. Feeling slightly nervous that he could not do as well as the monsters on board the ship, the lecher stepped up to one of the still intact dummies. Feeling the stares on his back he fell into some form of stance, not a very good or skilled one, he administered several punches to the dummy that did very little if anything at all. Realising that he was about to lose a lot of the small face he had, he slipped his hand into his bag of vials and took out one filled with gunpowder. He did so as he delivered another punch with his other hand in order to hide procuring the item, before striking once more with the vial in his hand. Just before coming into contact with the dummy he let go and stepped back, allowing the vial to hit the dummy and consequently explode. It wasn't a big explosion, but it was enough to blow off the head of the target and also leave Leon a little bit sore.

Though his hand hurt from being too close to the explosion, he kept a look of pride on his face and held in the pain as he watched to see what Hunter would do.

Hunter was used to these kinds of methods, every single person who had tried to hire him back on his home island had put him through some sort of test to find out how strong he was and was he good enough, although this time he was being tested for training instead of killing which was a nice change. Disregarding the gi entirely he began to do some basic warm-ups in preperation while watching Akemi step up to one of the ragged cobbled together dolls Zei had brought up and put together, she attempted a rather weak punch at the dolls arm joint that on a real person still would have caused considerable pain but on a doll did nothing. Drawing her strange claw gloves out of her sleeves she proceeded to hit the dummy again, this time causing much more substantial damage to it which ended with it on the floor in pieces.

The next to step up to the plate and attempt their shot was the resident merwoman, Hunter was not expecting much from her at all as she did not appear strong enough to do something to impressive, but again he was suprised when the dummy went flying through the air and smashed again. Maybe he had underestimated the people in the crew, this led him to wonder what the blonde idiot was going to do and if he was as strong as the others. The blonde boy stepped up to the plate and took a shot, doing no damage at all to the dummy, during this first shot the boy equipped himself with a vial of some sort in his other hand, then when hitting with that hand the vial hit with it and caused a small explosion that tore the dummy's head off.

He then realised that it must be his turn to hit a dummy as the other people on the boat had already had their go, walking up to the last dummy he quickly calculated what he was going to do. Without speeding up or slowing down from his walk towards the last dummy he straightened out his hands into a knife type shape and dropped into a low stance before driving them upwards into the dummies neck, tearing the head straight off it. Without pausing he then launched a roundhouse kick into its stomach which knocked it down before whipping out his spear and pinning the dummies body to the deck. He paused for a few seconds before pulling out the spear, sheathing it and heading back to his spot on the bow of the boat.

The island was now in clear view, and Hunter was certain it was an island suited to train on, a dense jungle with mysterious plants and animals, most likely completey uncatelogued, if he could catalogue them in his notebook then he would have an advantage or if by some unlikely chance, he had to ever fight more of their kind. Hunter was already planning where would be the best place to find the beasts that dwelled on the island, for surely there must be some. Trees were no problem for him as he could climb them as well as a normal person could run and could swim through most rivers with ease. The one thing that would stop this idea dead in its tracks was time, how long were they spending on this island? How long of that would be training? Any normal person would have just asked the other people on the boat, but Hunter was absorbed in scanning the island with a predatory gaze so that idea quickly slipped his mind.
