Drum Island, Super Secret Basement In the inside of, what looked like a lab, stood a man in a long white lab coat tinkering with several vials of liquid. This man was pretty tall, measuring in at around six feet in height. His build was as muscular as his face was bearded, very. The man had several, bulging veins on his forehead and probably the rest of his head, but the hair on his scalp covered that up. There were other men in this 'lab' as well, but they were all rather average looking and in no way stood out as much as the veiny, muscular man did. The others stood around and observed the larger man tinkering with the vials of liquids while taking down meticulous notes of what he was doing. The muscular man held two vials of liquid in each of his hands, a red vial in the right hand and a blue vial in the left. In front of him, on a desk, there was a larger vial, easily twice the size of those he had in his hands. The man carefully poured the contents of both of the smaller vials into the larger vial. As the liquids entered the large vial, they intermixed into one. The product of the two liquids mixing together was a bright purple color. Not just bright in tone either, the liquid in the vial seemed to actually be luminescent and glowing eerily. "It's completed!" the man exclaimed, holding up the vile of glowing, purple liquid. The men around the large man holding the vial gave a few, light golf claps before quickly simmering down and returning the room to the silent scene that it was minutes before. "Would you kindly bring me the test subjects?" the man holding the purple vile asked as he grabbed a syringe with a hypodermic needle that was lying on the desk. The man dipped the needle into the liquid inside the vile and then pulled the pump on the syringe towards himself to draw in the liquid. The syringe was held up in front of his face and examined thoroughly as he waited for the 'test subjects' to be brought to him. Minutes later, the man that had gone of to retrieve the test subjects that were asked for, waltzed back into the lab while pushing a large glass case on a cart. "Here they are, Maximilian, sir." Inside the case were two small, brown monkeys. They were fairly calm for monkeys and just looking around at the men and observing the room. "Excellent, excellent," the man said as the cart rolled over to him. The man that had rolled the case into the room, opened the top of the case and lifted one of the monkeys up before placing it on the desk in front of the man with the needle. "Hold him still," the man with the syringe said as he plucked that syringe. He examined the monkey, looking for the right spot to inject the needle into. The monkey started struggling against the one holding him, it could probably tell what was coming. "Hold still little guy, this will only hurt a bit," the large man said as he petted the monkey lightly, trying to calm the animal down. The needle of the syringe was quickly inserted into the monkey's thigh. "There, there. That wasn't so bad, was it?" The monkey was put back into the glass cage with the other monkey and sealed in. The cart was rolled to the very center of the room and the cage was taken off the cart and placed onto the floor. "Now men, we just sit back and observe the effect of the R-Virus on its host." The men gathered around the cage to observe the animals inside. "With this, I'll finally prove my worth! That shitty brat-of-a-scientist's work will pale in comparison to what I produce! Feyris will be the first to have to acknowledge the greatness that is me, Maximilian Mu!" In his head, he did an evil laugh and all that stuff. Off the Coast of Drum Island, One Week later Ayemel was sitting on her bed, playing with water that she had manipulated from out of her dial. She just held a spherical blob of water in her hand and rotated it in one direction for a few seconds before switching the direction of the rotation. The fishwoman was feeling a mix of anxiousness and boredom. She was just rearing to get to Drum to check out the lead that her boss had given her to the whereabouts of her twin brother, Ayelem. But she was greatly bored because the ship that she was on was moving at a pace that a snail would scoff at. After several more rotations of water, she manipulated the water back into the purple dial on her waist and then stood up before yawning loudly. Fed up with the speed that the ship was sailing at, she decided to go give the 'captain' of the ship a piece of her mind, and maybe even a piece of her fist if he tried to aim any of his, as she would describe it, 'shitty wit', at her. As Ayemel walked out of her room, her stomach rumbled like a lion. "Maybe I should go eat a bit first," the kunoichi said to herself as she looked down at her stomach and gently rubbed it. She pushed the poignant pummeling of the pufferfish to the back of her mind and headed to the kitchen. Ayemel wasn't a chef in any sense of the word, hell, she disliked cooking greatly; the marine looked through the fridge for something that could beat consumed with little to no preparation time. Her eyes automatically locked onto an unfinished pb&j. It was hers of course, she'd never ever touch a piece of food that was bitten into by that yellow shorty. Just thinking about it made her lose her appetite and slam the refrigerator shut. "Cod- I mean- God dammit!" Ayemel yelled, infuriated that her appetite was lost and that she was now using the phrases of the lame pufferfish. The marine opened the fridge again, though quickly this time, and grabbed a bottle of water before slamming it shut again. Ayemel chugged the water down in a few gulps on her way to the deck. She tried tossing it into the trashcan when she passed the bathroom, but missed by a foot or two. "I guess I have bad aim with non-weapons or things that aren't water...." Somewhat calmed down from guzzling the water, Ayemel arrived at the stairs that led to the deck. "Shaun! Hurry this goddamn boat up!" she called out as she slowly walked up the steps. Her hand was held steady over the dial on her waist, she was going to splash the yellow fishman with a stinging splash of water if he tried to give her the 'it can't go any faster' line. Walking out on deck, she realized that it was pretty cold out. "Ugh, I guess we're getting closer." Ayemel removed her hand from hovering over her dial and relaxed a bit. "Thank Cod it's the last day I'm spending with her... I couldn't give a chump's tail fin about speed, running out of fuel is worse..." Shaun thought as he was checking the course outside. Ayemel yelling at him, again, wasn't going to change his answer. The yellow pufferfish sighed. They were nearly at Drum Island anyway, the weather was getting cold again. Shaun had his jeans and leather jacket already, he'd go in later for perhaps more if there was a blizzard. Deciding to answer Ayemel after he sighed he yelled back down: "I'm almost out of fuel, trying to save some for the trip to the next island. We can go even slower if I open up the sails but I doubt you want that!" Shaun shouted down. Even his patience was running out dealing with her verbal abuse. Last flippin' favour he did for her. He didn't owe her anything, at this point he didn't even care about the bounty money. He'd rather starve than spend another day with her on his boat. But here he was dealing with it because if he would start a fight on his boat, it'd probably end up wrecked. but they could part ways on Drum, he'd go for the landscape and she could do whatever the hell she wanted to do on that island. This pufferfish was done being a sucker on her sandal or whatever the fin ninja's wore. Or Kunoichi or something? Whatever, Shaun could care less. It wouldn't be long before they hit the island though and remaining civil to the end was the priority. Shaun tried being nice on several occasions and she just returned him a face as if he was some kind of scum not worthy of her presence. All he ever got from her annoyance. But it would be over soon. "We're gonna be there in 5 minutes anyway, not gonna dump my fuel for that minute or so less." He said as he walked down and went for his room. Grabbing his things together in a minute or two he had a bag with some food supplies, a torch and some climbing equipment. Drum had some mountains after all but Shaun's aim was burried under the snow. A small shovel joined the backpack as he grabbed a scarf and put on his boots. Grabbing his snowboard goggles on the way out he headed for the steering wheel again as Drum was now in sight. Seems like the weather was currently fine, definitely a plus. Arriving at what appeared to be a run-down dock with only sunken ships, Shaun was suspicious. News had the place as war-torn but this was like people went savage after they lost their second tyrant in a row. You'd think things would start to look up but now Drum had become a true hell-hole. If there was anything left to scavenge, it'd be the palace. Royalty always had gold of some sort and he might be able to afford his supplies if he can even score something. "We're here..." he said as he adjusted his goggles on his forehead taking a look at the port town which just seemed abandoned. Jumping off the boat, Shaun started to secure it to the docks, he had the anchor lowered but this was so it wouldn't move along with the currents. "I read in the paper Drum lost their ruler again but this is getting ridiculous... How much suffering can these people go through?" Shaun continued as he fasted the ropes to the support pillars of the docks. Not taking his spear this time, he had his whip on his belt in case he'd encounter something. Lugging that large thing around was annoying anyway and he wasn't planning on taking life in this adventure. Of course in a corner it was them or him and he'd do everything to survive but still. "You can do whatever you need to do, I have my own things for now." Shaun exclaimed as he walked off from the boat, taking a backpack of supplies with him. In the main street Shaun took a look at the mountains or Rockies or whatever they were called. "Up there huh? Almost makes me want to wish this island was fine... So high..." he sighed and made a walking pace into the town. |

Ayemel simmered down even more when she was told that there was only about five minutes left to go before reaching land. With that in mind, Ayemel returned back down to below the deck and to her room. She started gathering up her things, especially her snow/winter gear. The marine threw on said winter gear, which was a thick, purple coat with fur around the hood, a pair of black boots and a pair of long, thick purple legwarmers that covered everything from her boots up to her thighs. The outfit may have not seemed that warm from the outside, but it was excellent at keeping the heat on her body. She unequipped all of her weapons and tied and equipped them on the outside of her coat. Ayemel let out a sigh and looked around to see if she had missed anything, which she hadn't, and exited the room. Something was being said to her about the island by Shaun something about the rulers of Drum or something, but she mostly tuned it out. The island and the people who ruled it were none of her concern... unless they got in her way while she searched for that target of hers, then she'd deal with them swiftly and painfully. But until then, none of her concern. The yellow fish had gotten a head-start on her, so Ayemel decided to slow her pace as to not walk side-by-side and be though of as a couple by anyone. Once they hit the main street, Ayemel quickly split off and headed towards the local pub or tavern or whatever the spot was that the local scum gathered around. Not wearing a marine uniform, it was easy for the fishwoman to go into these places, as she kind of always had a delinquent's scowl plastered across her face anyways. After hitting up a tavern, Ayemel was given the directions to an 'ice pool hall'. The walk wasn't too long, just a short stroll to the outskirts of the town. The establishment in question didn't seem big enough on the outside to be a pool hall, it looked more like a tiny shack. Upon closer inspection, the sign on the door said 'Pool Cubes'. Ayemel grimaced after reading that, she knew what they were going for, with the 'cubes' being a pun replacement for 'cues' but it bothered her that they would be lame enough to use a Shaun-caliber pun as the name of their establishment. Every nerve and bone in her body told her to to just turn around and look on her own, but she knew how long doing that would take. The marine grumbled something beneath her breath and entered into the small shack. The inside of the shack was very dimly lit, the only source of light being a flickering light fixture on the ceiling. There was also an older gentleman with grayish brown hair, sitting behind a desk and just staring at the door; Ayemel was in front of the door, but the look in his eyes seemed to suggest that he was looking through her and not at her. Ayemel walked forward and waved her hands around, trying to get his attention. "Heeeey! Can you see me, guy?" There was a moment of silence before the man sighed and then looked up at the purple fishwoman that stood before him. "Back up seven steps," he said in one of the flattest tones ever. Ayemel raised an eyebrow initially, but did exactly as told. The man sighed again and then hit a button beneath the desk he was sitting at. A wooden trapdoor sprang up, revealing a set of stairs that went downwards. Ayemel started walking down the stairs that were just revealed to her. The further she descended, the more the place started feeling like an actual pool hall. The aroma of smoke started to become apparent, there were jaunty tunes playing and men talking to one another rather loudly. The sound of billiard balls smashing into one another was the most prevalent of all the sounds that were flooding into her ears. When she reached the bottom of the sitars, she was amazed by how much the actual pool hall contrasted with the sad shack at the top. "Yo's! I hope ol' Ronnie upstairs wasn't too much of a jerk to you," the bartender to the right called out from behind his counter while mixing a drink. |

The venture of the pufferfish had no people to deal with, his target wasn't even a person. It was amazing how people travelled together but didn't bother being friends or something close to that. Splitting up at the main street, Shaun walked through the town. As expected the place was nearly deserted and for the few folk he saw on the streets were civilians down on their luck, trying to scavenge a bit and some folk with weaponry as if they were expecting an attack. Shaun decided to steer clear from that and mind his own business. Getting out of town he followed the road as far as it went before hitting a batch of deep snow to traverse. The annoying part would come now. If the cable transports worked he'd take that but seeing the shitty state this island was in since recent times, Shaun had his doubts people even cared about the palace. Heck it was a far fetch that palace even had something worthwhile in it but it was the best catch he could get right now. After all, digging in this snow for something good could be turn up gold too but... That was cold and impossible work. With daily snow storms, the wilderness of drum was much like a desert. There's bound to be something buried in here but hey, finding that wasn't going to be easy and digging through snow was arguably worse. Using his winter gear tennis racket shoes to cross the snowy landscape he came closer to the main Drum Rocky. As he wandered through the landscape, he found something odd in his path. aside from the nearby frozen pond, he encountered another human out here. At least he thought it was a human but they weren't wearing any winter clothing. Worried about the man, Shaun decided to give it some attention. "Hey! Mister! What are you doing out here in this weather with those clothes!" He shouted over. But what happened next even he couldn't see coming. The man who he thought was a man, was anything but an ordinary man. the man turned to him with a crazed bloodthirsty look and dashed at him like a madman. "What the... This isn't normal..." he said as the man was running for him like he wanted to kill him. As he came closer Shaun whipped out his... Whip... And sidestepped the man's dash. He kept runnig for a few feet but as he came this close Shaun saw what was up with him. It was like he was sick or something... Bloodshot eyes, pale skin with other problems too, animal behaviour... This was all but okay. Cracking the whip he grabbed a hold of the man's shoulder. "I don't know what is wrong with you..." Shaun said as he turned around and swung the whip so he would smack it over his shoulder. "But if you wanna tango you better learn some style!" he shouted as he swung the whip over his shoulder taking the man along with him for a serious throw. The man crashed in the frozen pond, unconscious now, he was at the edge of the shallow frozen pond. Knocked out on impact a few groans came out of the man in a white ripped shirt and brown pants before he settled down and became an unconscious rag doll. "Let's get you out of that water..." Shaun said as he pulled him out again. Taking a closer look, the man wasn't even wearing shoes. "What the hell is this..." Shaun said as he used a handkerchief in front of his mouth as he examined the guy. His skin was... Dying? It was like peeling and pale as if it was dead. His eyes bloodshot nearly dark red even. He was also seemed sick as a dog. Not taking the risk of taking the man along with him, Shaun decided it wouldn't be a half bad idea to ask around town what's going on here. then again the palace was close... Only a sharp climb away... Cod damn it, why did he feel like he needed to fix this. Shrugging a groan, Shaun decided to go back to Bighorn and ask around... |

The marine walked over to the bartender that called out to her and took a seat in front of him. Ayemel looked around for a bit, checking out the scene of the bar. It mostly seemed to just be the local ruffians and thugs, no hardcore pirates or criminals from what she could tell. "What was that guy's problem? His dog die or something? If so, I'm willing to go kick the mutt's grave." The man laughed as he slid the drink that he was mixing to the man who ordered it at the end of the counter. "Nah, nothing like that. People 'round here just don't like drawin' the short straw." The purple woman raised her eyebrow. "Short straw?" she asked. "Yeah. We draw straws to see who gets entrance duty upstairs." The man's attitude made sense to the marine now, so she decided to just move on from that topic and get to what she really wanted. "Have there been any pirate crews coming through here recently?" The man behind the counter was in the process of cleaning out a glass, but immediately stopped after Ayemel's question. "Any pi-pirate crews through here? You bein' serious?" The kunoichi scratched her nose and stared at the barkeep with a look of obliviousness on her face. "Yeah, that's why I asked." The man placed down the glass on the table and looked at the woman as if she were an idiot. "Of course! Those guys- the Frost Pirates-" "Frostbites!" Someone from across the room called out. "-yeah them. They came here and kicked out the Ice Queen. That's all anyone's been talkin' bout lately." Ayemel thought about it for a second before realizing that her twin hated cold weather and most likely wouldn't name his crew 'Frostbites'. "I don't think that's the crew I'm looking for. Have any fishman pirate crews been through here lately?" The bartender thought about it for a second before pointing in the direction of a man leaning over a billiards table, readying himself to hit a ball. "Ask ol' Al. He usually knows the comin's and goin's of all the pirates." Before leaving the bar counter, Ayemel ordered a Rum & Cola. Heavy on the cola. The marine chugged down her drink as she walked over to ol' Al. When she finished she placed the glass on ol' Al's billiard table. Unsurprisingly, the glass was placed directly in front of ol' Al's cue ball. The man quickly stood up and glared at Ayemel, who glared right back. His hair was shaggy and a dark brown color with matching dark brown eyes, he had a very thick mustache covering his upper lip and his physique was rather husky. The man wore blue jeans and a leather biker's jacket with a multitude of emblems stitched onto it in various places. "Move that fucking glass, fish." In her mind, the kunoichi imagined herself picking up the glass and smashing it into the face of the man. Right after that, she imagined that a brawl would break out. Being someone who didn't mind trouble, she decided that this was an okay course of action. Ayemel placed her hand on the glass and picked it up, staring at the angrily as she slowly moved it. As soon as ol' Al moved to line up his shot, the marine turned the glass around and placed it over the transparent white cue ball. Now that she actually looked, all of the billiard balls on the tables seemed to be glass-like, being transparent and such. The man threw his stick away and walked over to Ayemel with a scowl on his face. Not only did he have weight over her, standing front-to-front, it was apparent that he also had height over her, being about six four in height. The room went silent, only already rolling balls made noise as the two stared one another down. All eyes on the room were on them, and their eyes were on each other. The tension was quite thick. "You got balls, girl," the man laughed as patted Ayemel on the shoulder. Ayemel grimaced as she peered at his large hand on or shoulder through her peripheral vision. "Fucking sausage fingers," she thought as the large man walked away from the her back to his original position. Someone else ended up moving the glass and the man took a shot, smacking the white ball into a ball with red stripes. The latter banked off of the side and ended up rolling into a side pocket. "What are these made of? glass?" she asked as she picked up the ball that was just hit into the pocket and examined it. "Pretty much. It's made of NeverMeltIce, a super ice that takes weeks, sometimes even months, to melt." Ayemel wanted to ask so badly why it was called NeverMeltIce if it eventually did melt, but she managed restrained the urge to do so. "So, I hear you have information on pirate crews that come here. I'm looking for a crew that I think came through here recently." "Frostbites? I think they went to Ala-" Ayemel sighed as loud as she could, interrupting the man. "Fuck the Frostbites. I'm looking for information about a fishman pirate crew." ol' Al laughed. "I kinda thought you were a marine for a bit, but not caring about high-bounty pirates makes me think otherwise. But yeah, I remember some fishman pirates coming through here. They were heading towards Alabasta I think, but I'm not sure if that was their main objective." Ayemel stood there with her arms folded, thinking about it. "Alabasta huh? What the fuck are you doing?" "Anything else?" Ayemel snapped out of her mind and looked at the man. "Nope, that's all. Thanks for the info, mustache." The kunoichi walked away from the pool table and headed back to the stairs. "I guess I'm stuck with that goddamn pufferfish for even longer now. He won't like this in the least," she thought to herself as she walked up the stairs to exit the premises. |

After his little intermezzo with the sick man in the snow before Shaun Got back to Bighorn, where his ship was docked. It used to be a worker's camp but with the island under no one's rule now it was a free town once more. Not that freedom did anything good to it however. As Shaun got back to the main street he remembered what a slum this was. Seeing the men from before, with their guns and pitchforks and the like, Shaun decided it was better than no one at all. Approaching them Shaun asked "Hey, I'm a traveller who came here from Naia. Was about to explore the snow out there when I ran into this guy who was pale and had bloodshot eyes and..." but was interrupted when the men raised their weapons at him as soon as they heard the pale man's description. Shaun took a step abck and raised his hands. "Whoa, what's going on..." He said as an old man with a grey beard and a long duster coat along with a lot of other wintery clothing stepped forward. "You ain't infected, are ya boi?" The man asked in a tobacco-chewing accent. The pufferfish raised an eyebrow at the question. "What do you mean... Infected? Is the man I met sick with some virus or something?" Shaun asked as he stared down the barrel of the gun now. Not like he could get way anyway. "Yeah, Infected. There's somethin weird goin' on in these parts. People bitin' other people and goin' all cock-a-doodle-doo on eachother. Folks goin' pale, get yellow teeth and bloodshot eyes. You ain't bit, aren't ya?" The man asked now, ready to pull the trigger, steadying his indexfinger on the trigger. A bit nervous about this whole thing, Shaun swallowed a bit and replied:"N-no, I didn't get bit. I dealt with him before he could do anything to me." He said scraping together all the confidence a man could have staring down a barrel. The old man lowered his gun and Shaun let out a sigh of relief. "Aight... You got an honest sucker's face kid. I believe ya." The man said with a smile. Shaun was put down a bit by the comment and lowered his shoulders as well as dimmed his eyes a bit. "Gee... Thanks..." He said and sighed deeply as he joined the group around a small campfire. The fire was an iron barrel with wood inside to make it burn and give warmth. Warming his hands a bit he decided to question a bit further. "So... What do these Infected people do?" He asked warming his hands at the fire. "Well, Can't say we know da effect on fishfolk like you but regular humans... They forget deir humanity. Bloodcrazed monsters they become. 'F you survive bein' bit, you slowly turn into one 'f deir kind. Those that don't get eaten by dem Infected." the old man exclaimed as his fellow men nodded occasionally. Shaun was shocked to hear that. "Oh cod... Do they forget who they are? I can't imagine a son turning on his father or the other way around." He said as he listend closely to the man's response. The group now shed a tear. The man who held him at gunpoint before shook his head and sighed deeply. "Kid... I 'adda put down my own wife after she came back from a hike. T'is a horrible place 'ere, I recommend you sail away before everyone turns on eachother..." the man said as he gave the crying man next to him a pad on the shoulder. It seems they all had a similar experience. "Thanks for the advice... But I ain't going anywhere just yet." Shaun said as he took his leave from the group and figured he needed to tell Ayemel of this. She was still a marine, she had a duty to help these people. People don't do this out of their own free will and Shaun wasn't going to let more people suffer the same fate that man did. Problem was finding her. He figured he'd go the boat for now and hold ground. God knows how many of those people there were out there... Shaun figured taking his spear would probably pay off. He'd wrap a cloth around it to not kill anyone with it but this matter was too big to ignore. |

Upon reaching the top of the stairs that led to the shed, Ayemel found the little trapdoor to be closed. For a few moments, she looked around to see if there was any way to open it from her side. Without the door being open, the light was rather scarce, so she felt around to see if there were some kind of lever or handle that she couldn't see. "Wait... I'm a fucking flashlight fishwoman," she said to herself, feeling a bit dumb that it took her over a second to remember. The fishwoman brightened up her cheeks, illuminating the immediate area around her in a bright, red light. She hadn't realized it before, since she had rarely been to winter islands, and when she did she never used her lights, but the light was quite warm. Looking around in the now-red area, there were no knobs, switches, levers or anything of the sort for her to let herself out. Instead, there was a sign to her right. 'Knock twice, once ,then four times,' the sign read. Ayemel sighed as she reread the sign. She followed the directions, knocking on the wooden trapdoor in the way that the sign suggested. The marine waited a few seconds, but there was no surprise, but she heard a loud thump coming from directly above her head. Angry that she knew someone was up there, but not bothering to open the door, she repeated the knocking process but with harsher and louder knocks this time around. Still, she heard loud thumps from above, but no one bothered to open the trapdoor for her. "Fuck this," she grumbled beneath her breath. The purple kunoichi positioned her hand behind her and grabbed onto the handle of her sword. "Two times!" she yelled as she slashed the wooden door above twice. "Another!" she exclaimed as she lashed out at the door above her with the blade of her wakizashi. "Four. Fucking. Times!" Ayemel took four more swings above her head, cutting into and through the wood. Once she finished her 'knocking,' she sheathed her wakizashi and then took in a deep breath. The kunoichi punched through the cutup wooden door, sending randomly sized pieces of wood in every which direction in the shed. The fishwoman was fuming as she walked up and through the former trapdoor. She turned around and looked in the direction where the thumps were coming from, hoping to find the man with the shitty attitude. "Ronnie! Are you up here you fa-" Ayemel was rather surprised to see the sight that she walked into. The bad-attitude Ronnie was interlocked in a struggle with a man. "Purple girl! Help! Get this freak off'a me! He's crazy!" Ronnie yelled, as he tried to hold off the man with a bat. The man in question seemed pretty average from behind; medium height, medium build, warmly dressed. Ayemel did notice that he had a circular hole in his coat that looked like it was bleeding. "Ugh, I guess I can't refuse if asked," she sighed as she walked over to the squabbling men. "Yo! Fuck off and get out of here before I hurt you," the marine asserted as she tapped the man on the shoulder to stop him. "And go get some medical attention for that gash before-" the man turned around and growled at Ayemel like a rabid dog. "The fuck?" she asked as she stepped back. The face of this deranged man was a sight to behold. His eyes were beyond bloodshot and he was foaming madly at the mouth. His full attention was now on Ayemel, who was still trying to process the situation. "Stop right there, or I'll have to use force," she said as she held her hand out. She was forced to say that on non-pirates and people who seemed to be civilians, or else she'd be liable for the medical bills of the people she hurt. The man growled in a low tone and moved towards her, not stopping for or caring about the warnings of the marine. Ayemel tapped the dial strapped to her waist and readied herself to manipulate water from it as the man moved towards her. She stopped when she laid her eyes on Ronnie, who was behind the deranged man. THUMP THUD Ronnie took the initiative and smashed the man over the head with his bat. The tap wasn't enough to smash the man's skull or draw blood, but it seemed to have been enough to knock him out. "Shit. What the fuck, man?" "I don't even fucking know... I've seen some shit in my day, but this..." Ayemel sighed as she prodded the unconscious man with her foot. "He seems to be out, so I'll take care of him. You alright?" Ronnie rubbed his hand, which was bleeding. "I think the fucker bit me, but I'll be alright. I'll go downstairs and get some alcohol poured on it." The two nodded at one another, which was good enough a farewell for them, before the entrance guard disappeared into the pool hall down below. Ayemel grabbed the hood of the unconscious man and started dragging him into the cold outside. As Ayemel dragged the body of the man behind her, she could feel some slight struggling. She turned back to look and realized that the man was conscious again. The marine let him go and then turned around. "Listen, man. I don't know what the fuck you're doped up on, but cut that shit out. If you try to attack someone else again, I'm going to put you down. For. Fucking. Good." After she was done talking, Ayemel kicked the man's face into the ground and then kicked some cold snow over him, thinking she'd sober him up. The marine turned around to leave and get on to the main street, assuming that she was done with the man and instilled some sort of lesson into him. "Damn dope fiends," she said with a sigh, having dealt with junkies before. A low groaning sound followed Ayemel as she walked. At first, she assumed that the guy she let go was just walking to a place on a similar path. But after turning a corner, she realized that he was following her. The marine turned into a cozy little alleyway where no one would see what she was about to do. "Sorry, but I gave you a chance to go. Instead, you chose to-" The deranged man lunged forward with a bloodthirsty look in his eyes. "Fuck, never seen any junkie with that look," she said to herself as she manipulated a few drops of water from out of her dial. The marine took two shots, both aimed at the man's eyes and both hitting right on the mark, stunning the man for a second. The purple kunoichi the immediately manipulated a palm-sized glob of water from her dial and threw it at the face of the man with great force, knocking him onto the ground. Ayemel walked up to the man, now lying on the ground. With no hesitation, she shot two droplets of water into his eyes, causing real blood to spurt out from the man's bloodshot eyes. "Stay dead." With that over, she decided to get back to the boat so she could ditch the island that she was on to get to her next destination. Techs in Chronological Order

On the boat Shaun decided to grab the weapon of choice. Making a makeshift sheath for the thing so he wouldn't cut any up, it seemed to work. A thick wrapping of cloth and other makeshift, home-made methods of making sure the thing wouldn't rip through anyway such as a piece of leather and some old worn t-shirts. Walking outside with the sticky pole he dipped the tip in the sea. Cloth was less likely to rip when it was wet so he spent a minute or so stirring till he was sure it would do. Then again if froze in this weather it'd be one hell of beating stick. How weapons could change properties with a simple home-made touch... Oh who was he kidding this shit was ridiculous as hell. It would probably rip later anyway but at least this wouldn't kill people with a stroke of bad luck on his part. Cod knows how to fix these people but he had to try some way to set things right here. If he didn't, then who would? Thinking about who would, he figured Ayemel sure as herring wouldn't. She was here for her own reasons and dealing with this issue was outside her scope of interests. She didn't even bother asking Shaun where he was going on this island, just shows how much she cared. But she was still a marine and Shaun could use all the help he could get in this. Be it mean as she was, she was a competent fighter and marine. Her help would a great asset. Walking outside, strapping the spear on his back for now, Shaun took a set on the edge of the boat as he decided to wait for her. He was ride after all, she'd have to come back sooner or later. Taking a small book titled "Ancient Language and You" he crossed his legs in a semi-meditation seated position as he supported his head with his left hand and read the book with his right. Hopefully they could deal with this soon enough so he could move on to the palace and go scavenge some treasure. |

Ayemel continued to think about the junkie as she walked through the streets. It wasn't that she regretted killing him or anything, hell, she'd do it again and more brutally if she needed to. The thing that was on her mind was that something was wrong. She'd seen roidrage of high calibers before, but never had sheen seen someone in such a state, it was something new for the marine. "Maybe I should ask around about him or something? That's what a responsible marine would do, right?" she asked herself before stopping abruptly. "Pfft- responsible marine! Haha!" she laughed out loud. Whatever that guy's problem was, it wasn't hers and she wasn't going to delve into it. Quickly changing the subject of her thoughts, the kunoichi looked down at her water dial. Thinking on it, she should have tested out her new move on that junkie. So far, she hadn't had much of a chance to test out the techniques that she had developed in an actual battle and had no idea if they were applicable in combat or not. The closest she had come was when she almost hit the last pirate that she had captured with the technique. The control wasn't right and she had lost the shape of the attack before it slammed into the man. "Well, I could always test it out on that yellow guy. I'm sure he wouldn't really mind being assailed by it. I'm pretty sure he's a masochist anyways. Actually... I shouldn't do something that would give that weirdo pleasure." The marine didn't really notice that the place was a slum at first when she passed through. Even when she did notice that it was a slum, she didn't really care. The fishwoman passed some men sitting around an iron barrell with a roaring fire inside of it. They all seemed to have weapons, guns and pitchforks. Upon hearing the purple marine, they all became alarmed and turned their weapons to the woman and cocked them into a position to fire. "Speak! Show us you ain't infected!" Ayemel's eyes dulled as she heard the men. The kunoichi slowly turned around and gave the men one of the most annoyed stares ever. "Fuck. You," she slowly said as she stepped forward. The men slowly lowered their weapons from a firing position. "You ain't much for manners, but I s'pose you ain't rude'nough to bite." "Bite?" Ayemel asked, intrigued at his choice of words. She remembered that the junkie that she had just dealt with had bit the man guarding the pool hall. The men ushered her over and she took a seat by the guy that had told her to speak. "Yeah, bite. People been bitin' one another and just been going crazy. Whenever you get bit by one o' them, you become infected. They-" "Got it, thanks." She stood up and dusted herself off, though there was more snow than dust on her. The marine quickly walked away from the warm campfire and the group and started heading back to the docks. "Man. At least your guy listened. Mine ain't even stay'ta chat," the man that talked to Ayemel said to the man that talked to Shaun. "Who's next to explain the situation to the next one?" "Me." The men all shifted over a seat, changing positions. It took a few minutes, but Ayemel finally made her way to the docks. However, she arrived at the wrong side and had to walk quite a ways to get to where the boat was stationed. As the boat came into view, she could see her cohort sitting on the edge of the boat, being occupied by something; she assumed he was reading a self-help book on how to not be a pathetic loser. "Good, I didn't have to wait for him to finish whatever the fuck he was doing," she said to herself as she approached the ship. "Hopefully he doesn't know about this infection thing. He seems like one of those bleeding heart-types that'll be dying to help." Ayemel equipped a smile as she walked up to the yellow pufferfish sitting on the boat. "How was your day? I hope you had fun doing whatever activity you had planned for yourself," she lied outright. "I would ask you if I could go along, but we won't have much time, going to Alabasta and all. In fact I was just thinking-Oh, yeah. We're going to Alabasta. What I'm looking for is there, so let's set sail asap." She took a very short pause to think of some incentives for him to take her there. Money. of course money would do the trick, the guy was overly worried about getting Charger's bounty, and the boat he used was rather pathetic, so of course he probably needed money. "The guys I'm after have a really big collective bounty and I'm sure that you'd really appreciate the generous reward you'd get for turning them in. Hell, I'd even give you a portion of the pay that I receive from them if you really needed the money. If we can get these guys, I'll probably be bumped up to a higher rank and I'll get even more pay. And if i'm getting a higher pay, chauffeuring me around to where I need to go would be even more beneficial to you. I didn't even mention the treasures. I heard, through the marine grapevine, that there was like a secret treasure or something under the Alabasta desert. You like exploring for that type of stuff, right? You could check it out when we get there. Why are we even dawdling around here? Let's go to Alabasta already." Ayemel took in a short deep breath to recover the wind and energy that she had lost from talking non-stop. Ayemel looked sideways as she waited for an answer from the man. "C'moooon, take the beli bait, you know you want it," she thought to herself as she waited for him to say yes. There was no other possible answer that he could spew forth from his mouth. |

Shaun turned his eyes to Ayemel as she put up a sweet little act. He'd fallen for that before but now it was obvious to him, he was just about to be used over a false promise. Well half-false maybe, if anything she kept her end of the deal with Charger. A news-carrier from the marines delivered their things yesterday and he got the cut as promised. He sighed as he put the book down but still supported his head. "No, I'm not going anywhere." he said rather confident. "These people are in more trouble than we can even imagine. You know what's going on here right? People are infected with some kind of disease that makes them go... Uh... Carp-a-doodle-doo or something on other people. Fuck if I know how to cure them..." He continued as he jumped off the edge of the boat onto the creaky docks. Putting his book in his jacket breast pocket he pointed at the castle. "If we don't try and help these people, no one will. These have no ruler now, It's a country in anarchy. Who will help these people, huh?" The pufferfish exclaimed boldly. "I'll tell you who, I will. But I can't do this alone. So I'm gonna ask you a favour instead. Help me out here and I'll sail to Alabasta no questions asked. How can you leave this people just like this. Aren't you a marine? Isn't it your duty to help people? Is this your justice?" Shaun spoke. He started walking as he reached the bricks he balled his fists. "I'm not going anywhere until I found out what we can do to help these people. What if this whole island gets infected? We were lucky now but if we arrived here and a mob of those people jumped on us, we'd wandering around and biting up folk too. I'm not gonna let that happen to someone else!" The pufferfish exclaimed as he walked off into town. He'd do this with or without her anyway, was just nice knowing someone had your back in this. Walking off through town he passed the group of men again and gave them a confirming nod. He had this. He'd handle the situation. Arriving at the edge of town, He decided to wait a bit to see if Ayemel would follow. She could try to sail off the ship on her own but he had the log pose on his wrist. Sailing off would only make the girl lost at sea. Still, she wasn't THAT bad right? She must have some shred of good in her. While he waited he took a look at the snow he came from before. No storms or snowfall yet so he could probably track the man's movements... He decided to check in his backpack for a map of Drum, he checked it earlier today when planning this hike to the palace. Unfolding it he figured it was perhaps best to ask around in other towns for now. They landed in Bighorn so the closest town from here was Cocoa Weed. It was worth a shot to see how the townsfolk there was holding up, maybe they even knew more. "Maybe the people in the next town know more. The island is too big to go on a wild goose chase..." Shaun thought out loud, maybe talking to a possible ally but hey, you could never tell with Ayemel. The man began his quest to the next island following the snowy road to Cocoa Weed. The island itself was still as it ever was. Pine trees, snow covering them, thick wooden housing and such. It was a nice sight to see and reward enough for him if he could preserve this sight. Then again sights didn't pay the bills... He'd figure something out later for now he needed to solve this issue. |

Ayemel's fake smile turned into a grimace at the speed of light as soon as she heard the word 'no'. for the next few seconds, during the yellow fish's speech, the marine had nothing but pure contempt for him. She thought about smashing his head against the hull of the boat until he decided to come along with her. Ayemel tuned back in as he offered his ultimatum; a ride to Alabasta if she offered her help to the people. "Fighting junkies for a ride to Alabasta? I'm not sure how fair of a trade that is..." she thought to herself as she began tuning him out again. The fishwoman stood there, contemplating whether or not she should help out this cold, snowy island. "When the fuck did you decide to grow balls?" she said underneath her breath as she turned her attention to the boat. "Sullivan's Jewel, huh? In what fucking universe are you a jewel? Fucking rust-bucket," Ayemel said as she kicked the hull of the ship. When Shaun was out of sight, she decided to hop on the boat and see if she could operate it. Once she got to the wheel, she became baffled about what to do. And even if she did manage to take off, she realized that she had no damn idea of how to read a map. "I probably shouldn't have refused that navigation course when I joined the marines," she thought to herself as she moved to exit the boat. Ayemel quickly hopped over the side of the ship. The marine scratched her head as she thought about what to do, and decided to help Shaun. She didn't want to, but he was probably her only chance. "Where is he headed to?" Ayemel wondered as she started walking in the direction that he had gone. The marine eventually ended up walking back through where she had stopped minutes before; the campfire filled with men equipped with weapons. The marine was just going to outright ignore them and go on with her life, but seeing them gave her a splendid idea. "At least one of these guys should have the credentials to help me out," she thought as she began walking up to them. Once again, Ayemel equipped her award-winning fake smile and slowly walked up to the men in a non-threatening manner... or at least she assumed that the way she was walking wasn't threatening. "Hey guys, sorry for leaving so fast earlier, I had to get to my friend." "Yeah, we saw'em. He just walked by. Nice kid, make sure you watch his back out there." Ayemel raised an eyebrow. "I don't think so. My friend is still on the ship, I'm pretty sure you haven't met her," she lied. "Anyways," she digressed, "I have a favor I needed to ask of one or more of you capable-looking men. Would any of you happen to know how to pilot a ship?" The men all looked at one another before one of them raised their hand. "I can," he responded. "Do you know how to get to Alabasta from here?" she asked, getting happier that she didn't have to participate in whatever heroics that Shaun wanted to pull. "Sorry, can't read maps a lick." "Can anyone else here read maps?" Again, the men all looked at one another. "Nope," they said in unison. As the marine turned to leave, one of the men spoke up as he remembered something. "Hey! Girlie! I know who can read maps! There's a man by the name of Jim Bob over in Cocoa Weed. used to be a navigator for the marines or something. Bring'em back here and I'll be content wit' taking you to take you to Alabasta." Ayemel sighed before looking up to the sky for a few seconds to ponder on his offer. "Alright. How do I get to Cocoa Weed from here? And how long will it take?" "Should only take you about a few minutes, not long. Just keep following the main street's path." The marine turned to leave after she recieved the directions. "Be careful out there, and make sure you don't get bit!" the man who had briefed her before called out to her. As she walked away, Ayemel lifted up her hand and gave a small wave of the hand to signal that she understood. As Ayemel reached the outskirts of the town, she realized that the crummy, snow-covered buildings were being replaced by snow-covered pine and evergreen trees. On the ground, she could see multiple sets of footprints on the ground; she assumed that they were left by Shaun and decided to follow them. "Even if they're not his, they should probably lead me there," she said to herself as she split her attention between the footprints on the ground and the view directly in front of her; the fishwoman didn't want to be surprised by any unwelcomed, junkie guests. "Maybe I should stop thinking of them as junkies and think of them as 'infected' or 'bit'," she said the word 'bit' with an accent, mocking the men around the campfire. Ayemel stopped abruptly in the middle of the path, quickly looking around in every direction after stopping. "..." The kunoichi placed her hand on the handle of the sword strapped to her and took up a defensive stance. Ayemel thought that she heard the footsteps of something behind the trees to the right of her, but couldn't exactly pinpoint the direction as she wasn't actively listening for sounds before hearing said sounds. "They weren't sloppy like that jun- infected guy's..." The kunoichi stood there for several minutes, yet nothing happened. Ayemel broker her stance and continued walking along the path. She assuemed that it was just some animal, from the quickness of the footsteps. "Probably a rabbit," she said with a sigh. Just to be sure that it wasn't some wild beast or some crazed hunter, she began walking in a way where she kicked snow over the footprints that she left behind. |

Shaun proceeded onwards without Ayemel then. He didn't know she was only so far behind him but didn't care anyway. They'd meet up sooner or later anyway. His footsteps made the light snow layer on the road crack and it was an enjoyable sound the sound of snow crystal breaking or reforming or something. All he knew was that it was a cool miracle. Sights and snow aside, the town of Cocoa Weed came in sight and he was ready to find out more about this event of infected people. Entering town it was as deserted as the last and Shaun sighed as he heard a noise. A cry for help that sounded as ominous as he thought. Running over to where the sound came from he saw a young woman in her twenties running from a group of those infected people. Shaun took the charge straight-on and sprinted straight towards the group, tossing his spear down to cut them off from the girl. The spear flew and landed right in their path but they didn't bother stopping and tripped over it. Flexing his fists in and out, he winked the pile of infected people over. As the pile was now angry and a standing target seemed better than a running one, it was soon Shaun vs 5 of those... Zombies? Bit? Infected? Whatever. They charged him in a group again but as the first was about to tackle him he made a swift and strong palm attack sending the group flying back into a building. Crashing into the wall and leaving a small impact crater the 2 infected at the end had little luck in staying conscious. The other 3 who got up shook their heads and seemed even angrier. the one he hit with the attack was still staggering however. "Oh boy, you just can't give up can you. You should stop fighting like a bull seeing red..." Shaun said as he approached his spear and picked it up out of the ground. Spinning it around he was ready to use the thing in combat as he took a stance with his arm wrapped around the thing. As they charged him like a mob yet again, Shaun readied some of his spit. as the first got in close proximity, he spat the man straight in his eyes before turning away from him, taking a step forward and lunging the spear in the second one. The cloth end from before made the impact blunt but it was enough to take him out and send him to the ground. Soon after he took a second step forward and swiped the spear to drop the last man to the ground. As he collided with the ground Shaun placed the fork end of the sword around his neck and locked the man in. Now the only one left was the infected man suffering of burning blindness and as he wandered cluelessly around the scene, grabbing his face of the pain, Shaun smacked a fist on his head to drop him. 4 of them knocked out and another one grabbing spear but unable to pull it out. The man was struggling like a splashing guppy on land. Shaun sighed as he squatted down next to him examining him. "Calm down, no one is gonna hurt you." All he got in response however was a loud groan and yell or something more raw at him. Shaun smacked him down and knocked the man out. "Rude..." He said as he pulled out his spear. and left the men. The woman was at a distance and had watched the fight. As the pufferfish approached her it was clear... That was taller than him... "Are you alright?" he asked. The woman nodded and said: "Yes I'm fine...". Shaun smiled at her response and nodded once. "Good, do you happen to have something to tie these men up with? Don't want them to wake up and rampage on someone else later." As 5 minutes passed, the infected 5 sat in a circle tied together with no escape. Shaun tied them around a light pole so they couldn't get out at all when the woke up. Unless they ripped one of them to shreds but even then they were still tied together. Dusting his hands off, not really but he made that motion his hands to signify a job well done, he reached a hand out to the woman. "I guess some introductions are in order, I'm Shaun and I'm trying to-""D'awwww aren't you cute? I'm Alessandra pleased to meet you!" the woman interrupted him as she glomped him instead of returning the handshake. Great... He always got this reaction. His big cute eyes and stuff. Yeah, it wasn't a chick magnet. He was like a stuffed toy to them... Pushing himself off in the most friendly way he could muster, he regained his breath. "Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaah, anywho... I'm trying to find out what happened on this island what makes these people like this..." Shaun continued. Techs used

Walking while consciously kicking up snow behind her to cover her tracks made Ayemel a bit slower than she would have been otherwise. It was a tedious thing to do, but she'd rather be fine than infected. As she continued down the path, she heard another noise, though this time it came from her left. The noise was sloppier and more audible this time, so she assumed it was a human this time around. Again, she stopped in her tracks and placed her hand in the space directly above the handle of her sword. "Come out, fuckwad. I can hear your sloppy footsteps." The marine started moving forward, toward the origin of the sound to check it out. As Ayemel moved towards the tree where she thought the noise came from, she heard sound of a clicking trigger. The kunoichi quickly unsheathed her sword and lounged forward, swinging the weapon directly in front of her to try and block whatever projectile was about to be launched her way. She miscalculated her timing, only hitting air, and the projectile soared past her head and into the thick of the trees behind her. "Shit, girl. I was hunting for food! What'd you go and do that for!" A man clad in white appeared from behind a tree that she was facing and walked towards her. He possessed a crossbow in his right hand and no hand on his left. He was wearing a thick, white outfit with the ends tied where his left hand was supposed to be. "Do what?" "Get in my way! What else?!" "Oh. My bad, thought you were attacking me." The man sighed as he adjusted the white beanie on his head. "Ain't interested in fishman meat, especially purple meat. Looks tainted." Ayemel figured the least she could do for ruining his hunt was to not respond with an insult. Ayemel turned to look in the direction that the arrow had traveled and then turned back to the man. "What were you hunting?" The man sat down in the snow and placed his crossbow between his legs before pulling out a few arrows and loading them into the weapon. "Deer... hopefully. I didn't really get a good look at what it was, but I was assuming and hoping that it was a deer," he said as he finished reloading his crossbow with his one hand. "Food is scarce around here? How long have those infected people been around?" The white-clad man thought about it for a bit. "They've only been around for a few days. I was always hunting for food though, even before they started popping up. I preferred hunting food over buying it." The marine scratched her head. "I wonder how those guys at the pool hall didn't know about these infected..." "So how'd you lose your hand?" she asked as the man started to lift himself up from the ground. The man looked down at the empty space where his hand should have been and then looked back up at the fishwoman. "Human infected aren't the worse things out there. There are other monsters lurking in that thick snow out there..." The man looked around and then started moving away. "Don't follow that path, my cabin is on outskirts of Cocoa Weeds. It'll be quicker and you'll avoid any of those infected folks. My family is there too; the wife will cook you up something good." Ayemel decided to follow him. There was no way that she couldn't take down some one-handed hunter that had to sit down to reload his weapon. "Sure," she agreed. "So, those other monsters... what was that about?" the marine asked, overly curious. "Well, I was out hunting with a group. We were on the track of a pack of deer but were blindsided by some large creature. It was rabid, hell, probably more than rabid. It took a huge chunk out of my hand with a bite and was going to finish me off, but my friend sacrificed himself fending it off for the rest of us. When we got away, we had to amputate the rest of my hand so I wouldn't become infected. We never did manage to figure out what it was..." Ayemel thought about it as she followed the man, wondering just what the hell was going on on this cold island. A quaint cabin started coming into view from the distance. "There's my place over there, et's speed up a bit." |

Back in the streets of Cocoa Weed, Shaun met up with a woman who was treating him like a cute stuffed animal. Things could be better. Alessandra was pulling his cheeks out and the like. "Will you keep with the topic! I asked if you knew something about those infected people!" Shaun shouted as he pulled himself free from the torture. The woman pouted and crossed her arms. "Fiiiiiiiiiiiine..." She said a bit annoyed as if someone stole her toy and she was some 8 year old who had to finish her vegetables. Shaun sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He wasn't really up to dealing headaches right now. "They started popping up over the last week or so. Maybe a few days, I dunno, I don't follow rumours and gossip on this island so much." She spoke. Shaun could already tell it would be a pointless conversation. "I only met them yesterday and just ran like hell when They started chasing me. I escaped but the found me again today..." Shaun nodded as he listened to her story but nothing really new came up. Politely waiting till she was finished he asked the next question: "Is there anyone who knows more of this? I'm trying to see if I can fix this problem this island seems to be having." He asked keeping his annoyance to himself. "Well, I think Jim Bob knows more. He used to be a marine and now he's protecting this town from those infected people." The woman said after thinking a bit to herself. Shaun nodded and continued to asking where the man was. Shortly after their conversation he was following the woman to what seemed to be a fort of a house. It was in the centre of town and had armed men around makeshift walls of wood and barbed wire. Seems like in the two or so days they met these zom-... Infected, these people made a viable defence perimeter. Walking past the man after being briefly inspected, Shaun entered the building. Inside was a desk with a large bald man sitting behind it. He had all kinds of maps and such spread out over the room and seemed be examining them all. "Uhm, hi, I'm Shaun and I want to help solve this issue in any way I can?" The pufferfish said, deciding not to tiptoe around it. The man looked up and Shaun noticed he had a grey shaven beard and a coiffed moustache. "Ah welcome! always good to see someone join the good fight! I'm Jim Bob, ex-marine Lieutenant. Leading the fight against these infected... People. I wanna say people but they ain't people no more..." the man said as he balled a fist and slammed it down on the table out of regret for the things he he had to do apparently. Shaun remained understandingly quiet for a bit before he started to speak again. "I can't begin to understand the suffering you must have gone through. But please tell me what you on where these people came from. I'm looking for a solution for this because this isn't the common cold gone wild. This is a full-blown epidemic of some kind of new disease. and on a winter island like this I find that odd." Jim bob raised his eyebrow and rubbed his chin in thought. "How so young fishy friend?" he asked to test Shaun. Shaun felt like he was kicked in his balls again. So much people looking down on him, literally and figuratively. "Well... Bacteria can't survive in the cold. At least not normal ones. It's like a refridgerator. Nothing goes bad because the cold kills bacteria. I'm not a doctor but I know how to keep meat from going bad. This however seems like a reverse case... These people are... well... I don't know how to put it but they seem to be getting this disease despite the cold on this island. So all i can assume is that this isn't normal." Shaun said as he walked over to the table and leaned on it. Jim Bob smiled as he came to the same conclusion earlier. "Sharp kid... Our doctors here confirmed your theory earlier. This is some kind of man-made thing, my friend. They're working on an antidote but... How many will have to die during that time..." the bald man said as he sinked into a chair. "If it's man-made then someone unleashed it upon this island... can't they make more potent versions that the antidote won't work against? No, while an antidote is a good thing it's not a long term solution." The yellow pufferfish continued in a brave tone. "We need to find whoever made this as well. That's the only way to put a stop to this once and for all." |

The two sped up their walking pace until they were within a few meters of the cabin. Getting closer, Ayemel noticed that there were some other cabins behind the one that they were heading to, but none of them were really that close. "Are your neighbors-" "No. Most of'em, they- they, uhm-" "Oh. Alright," Ayemel cut him off, assuming that she understood the situation. There was a ladder leaning up against the side of the cabin, leading up to the roof, which seemed to be flat and had a railing surrounding it. Instead of walking to the front door, the man headed towards the ladder. "Let's take a quick looksee," he said, pointing towards the ladder. Ayemel motioned for him to go up first, she didn't want him checking her out. After he climbed upwards, she followed behind. Upon reaching the top, the man tried pulling her up with his one hand, but Ayemel insisted that she didn't need any help, though she was more concerned that she'd pull him down and they'd both fall. The rooftop was square, about twenty by twenty in length and width, about as spacious as Ayemel expected. There was a pair of binoculars leaning up against the railing that the man grabbed as Ayemel dusted the snow off of herself. "What's your name by the way? I'm Ayemel..." the marine felt a tad bit awkward that she hadn't asked his name upon first meeting him, she wasn't the greatest at etiquette and all that jazz. "Max," he replied as he looked out into the distance with the pair of binoculars that he picked up. Ayemel noticed that max avoided looking at his neighbors' houses with the binoculars, but didn't give it much though after noticing it initially. "What're you looking for with those?" the marine asked. "The ones that bite, survivors, anything useful." "Are you and your family the only ones around here?" "No, there are others, in the center of town I think, a lot of them. We, over here in the outskirts, we liked to keep to ourselves. Especially since I don't care for the guy in charge of that group. We never got along. He thinks that he's special because he was a former marine lieutenant." The man placed the binoculars back down onto the wooden floor of the roof. "I suppose you want to go down the ladder first?" Ayemel shook her head. "Nah, it's only two stories-" she didn't even bother finishing her sentence before leaping from the roof and landing in the thick, cold snow. She turned around and watched as the man slowly climbed down the ladder. The two walked around to the front of the cabin to enter in. The mailbox next to the door read: 'Graham Residence'. Inside, the cabin seemed quaint and homey. There was a familiar aroma flowing through the air, though the marine couldn't quite place her finger on it. Ignoring the smell, she looked around at the inanimate objects before turning her attention to the people; there were a few family photos and other knickknacks situated on various shelves and stands. Nothing in particular stood out among the objects that the kunoichi surveyed in her short time looking around. "Ed, this is Ayemel, she seems to be a good fighter. We can use a girl like her," Max said as he sat his crossbow next to the couch that this 'Ed' was currently sitting on. "Oh yeah. Ayemel, Ed," he said to Ayemel, pointing at the 'Ed' person again. The two people that were just introduced to one another gave the other a quick once-over. The man sitting on the couch was wearing a red, long-sleeved flannel, blue jean overalls and was tightly clutching what seemed to be some sort of rifle. The man was rather rugged in the facial region, sporting quite a bit of facial hair. Ed grunted at the marine as Max called the marine in question. The two walked into the dining room where a young woman, around Ayemel's height, was currently setting the table. Her hair was cut short, down to her shoulders and with blond bangs covering her forehead, and her eyes were a complementing green color. The young woman wore long brown boots that rose up to her knees, white stockings, a plaid green skirt, and a thick, orange turtleneck sweater. Her breasts seemed to be bulging through the thick sweater, but Ayemel tried her best to not ogle them. "This here is my daughter, Ashley. Ashley, this here is Ayemel." The blond smiled at Ayemel and waved. "Nice to meet you, my mom's cooking up something delic, I'm sure you'll like it." The purple marine blushed slightly and quickly averted her gaze before slowly turning it back. "H-hi," Ayemel returned the wave, but hers was more stiff and lifeless. As the two walked past the table, and Ashley, who was setting it, Ayemel stole a few dozen glances. "Ashley? Why do I have a feeling that this is going to end up badly?" The marine sighed as she turned her gaze from Ashley and walked into the kitchen. The smell of what was being prepared was at it's strongest, triggering the marine's memory. "Ah, so that's what it is..." she mumbled to herself. "This magnificent cook in here is my wife." in the kitchen stood a women in a brown dress, wearing a beige apron. her hair was a long, brown color and her eyes were a light green, like Ashley's. "Oh, hush. If it weren't for you hunting so much, I'd have nothing to cook." The two embraced before turning to Ayemel. "This here is Ayemel, I found her while I was out hunting. She's here- actually, you never told me why you were here." The marine opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by the housewife. "That can wait for later, hun," the woman told her husband. "I'm Jill, Ayemel. Nice to meet you." Ayemel quickly turned her attention to the pot sitting on the stove behind the woman. "Is- is that deer?" Both the wife and husband raised a surprised eyebrow. "You can smell deer meat? I mean- of course you can, but you know the smell?" The kunoichi nodded. "Yeah, my boss loves hunting and all of that. He makes the platoon get together once a week to feast. it tasted better than I thought it would- deer meat, that is." The woman smiled and grabbed some spices to shake over the stew and Max motioned for Ayemel to return to the dining room with him. "Platoon? Sounds like marine talk. You a marine?" The marine scratched the side of her face. "Yeah, but I'm not here because the marines know wha-" "Dinner's ready~!" "We can discuss things more over, dinner. Small talk hasn't been too great at the dinner table lately." |
