A cbox discussion about natural abilities and the like pointed out that stuff like webs, poison, claws etc scale with fortune. So does the slice fruit instead of staying at steel strength. Yaksha said this was so it didn't become useless past 200+ SD when everyone can break steel. So, why doesn't hardened fighter scale? As it is, it becomes all but pointless past 100 SD or so when 40+ strength is easy to reach. |

scaling is a new idea and isn't completely decided on yet. Think of it more of as a theory rather than a real rule. But currently no, it wouldn't though I have no idea if it would under the new scaling idea though I doubt it would scale.

As a martial artist becomes more skilled in doing what he does best-fighting- his body wouldn't naturally toughen and up and become more resistant to the blows he receives? But I ain't even mad. If we're gonna talk about redundant trait/profession combos, there's no need for anyone to take Thief primary and the Pickpocket trait, because beli bonuses don't stack. Buff Thief plz |

Yeah... let's test this theory out. Punch yourself in the face ten times, and see if you're any tougher afterward. It's more of a balance issue anyway of why would things scale when the point of paying more traits is to get a better power. Edited by Darkhunter, May 12 2012, 06:43 PM.

Then fix Hardened fighter. Right now it's just a trap for anyone who doesn't work out that it becomes useless past 100 SD before buying it - no actually, it's useless the moment you figure out that you can buy an equivalent defense with your starting funds. You're better off spending it on....anything else really. A trait being rendered obsolete for a couple hundred thousand beli...yeah something is wrong there. And on the getting tougher part - This is One piece, where people can tank attacks that slice giant stone pillars behind them into ribbons, get punched with a drill and not get skewered, and get a hook through the spine and walk it off. Unless the stamina stat naturally makes your body tougher than most buildings, something went on there to dull the impact so much. Going on this, people do get tougher in real life through practice; that's what iron palm and shirt came form. Why wouldn't it work even better in One Piece where all the characters seem to practice the approach that you do get tougher and more resistant for getting into fights. On that note, seriously, how did Zoro not get carved up against Mr 1? Also, going by the balance reason, Supa shouldn't scale. You're already getting steel hard entire body at all times and the ability to make blades anywhere, why should you get scaling toughness on top of all of that? |

Hence why scaling is theoretical, as its simply an idea currently and has not been implemented officially or even brought up as a serious discussion. I personally don't like scaling. also it's not really a trap when it would take 45 strength to harm the hardened fighter, which isn't a bad invenstment early on for a single trait, you could compare it to the iron defense of a cyborg. Out of interest, how does it interact with the trait owner's stamina? I mean after a while you're going to be tougher thanks to how much you put into stamina so wouldn't there a level where having limbs the 'toughness' of wood would become a detriment rather than a bonus?

nah stamina isn't defense, thats the key difference. also it wouldn't interact with it much outside of how much a particular injury harmed you, the idea is with scaling it grows with fortune. |

Isn't it 40 strength? You can easily make that at 100 SD Cyborgs get iron defense and all manner of gadgets for that 1 trait. I don't see hardened fighter letting me put a gun in my arm or get spring jump legs. Once you hit the GL, your gadgets still work fine and you've probably made most of your body metal with even more gadgetry for that 1 trait and some cash. Hardened fighter compared to cyborg makes its utter weakness stick out even more <_< On that note people with a trait for natural stuff like claws or shells get scaling parts as well. Claws and fangs and shells scale to titanium yet the trait that does nothing but make your limbs a bit tougher doesn't? =_= |

100 sd isn't exactly starter but fair point, but then again lets look at all the characters with around 100 sd and having over that in strength, odds are it'd be a minority. fishmen scaling is a new idea as well, almost everything that scales is a new idea. |

Its worth noting that cyborgs have pretty high upkeep, including food, you'll spend every beli of that starting 500,000 on your first SL for upkeep, if you used all 3 million given by the trait

Really, we are aware of the issue and are discussing this scaling business now. Ideally, whenever you spend a trait it should always be worth something at any level. Seeing as traits is probably the lowest pool of resources a character has, the idea is that you should always get something in return of spending one of your 15 traits that can earn. Cyborg is more of a risk too. You're subject to electric attacks more so than other characters, magnetism, heavier weight etc. Hardened fighter makes your skin as strong as wood. No texture changing, it's all surplus. Additionally it's a profession trait and those generally give you less than a normal trait would give you. Go down the line and compare. So all I can say now is sit tight. |

What Ice is saying is true though I do feel neccessary to comment that just because you hit a certain level doesn't make a trait useless it just means its not quite as good as it was early on simply due to progression. Still every person with under the strength requirement couldn't harm you just the likelyhood of finding someone with that requirement would be less and less likely the stronger you got. It would be like getting a rank 28 tech that let you pierce through iron when you only have 30 strength, then regret it once you boost your strength up to 50 and realize you wasted tp. Babying people for poor long term thinking skills isn't something I really agree with.
