"I just don't understand it Razz. Why would they do that to me? Why would they pretend to be my friends?" Eddy's voice was pained and starting to squeak. Inside his mind was a raging typhoon of thoughts and it was tearing at the seams of his sanity. Eddy felt alone, and this scared him. He had spent his entire life trying to "fit in" and he had been successful on most occasions. The man was still young to the world and he had never experienced a rejection before.

"There are all kinds of people in this world Eddy. Some people are just broken. They are manipulative, deceptive, and cruel. Those people like to stroke their own egos. When they get bored they decide to relieve that boredom on the next chump they meet. Perhaps they singled you out, or perhaps it was just the wheels of fate turning." Razz's words were smooth and comforting to the porcupine man. His voice was smooth and seemed to melt away Eddy's worry and distress. The seahorse fishman reached up and gave his mustache a nice twirl with the tip of his index finger. The whiskers wrapped clear around his digit before he pulled his hand back and the mustache snapped back like a spring.

"What should I do now Razz? I was just betrayed by those I considered my friends, no hospital will ever hire me, and I can't work a nine to five with my arm in a sling." Eddy's worries were well deserved. He was alone on a foreign island, far from home, injured, and he had never worked outside of the acupuncture field for a day in his life. Eddy reflected on his life changing decisions he made fighting the piranha fishmen not that long before. He had wanted to be a bounty hunter, but now the peach seeds of doubt had begun to sprout. The porcupine man only had one wish at this moment in time: he just wanted to go home.

"Eddy, Eddy, Eddy... You are not alone. I'll help you out. I am the owner of the largest peach plantation this side of the Red Line! Just about everyone on this island works for me. I can find you a suitable job... Actually scratch that. I can give you a job." Razz's voice was changing in tone to provide emphasis. His hands were not free from his mustache as they were vividly expressing his every word.

"Really! You would do that for me Razz?" Eddy's voice was loud but had a hint of excitement in it.

"Of course Eddy my boy! A position on my Peach Prune Procession just opened up last week. Hey! I have an idea! Why don't you come by the orchards tonight. The Prune Procession is having a small get together. I'll even introduce you to everyone myself." Razz extended his arm and put it snugly around Eddy's shoulder. The fishman shook Eddy's shoulder near the end in a brotherly way. Razz's innocent smile helped compound this brotherly image. Eddy never had siblings, but he had always wished for an older brother. The porcupine man could not help but plaster the image of Razz in his head under the file, "Brother."

"I... I'll be there. Thank you Razz! I..." Eddy was cut off by his own stomachs growling.

"I knew we were forgetting something. I'll tell you what, Eddy here is 500 beli. Go into that shop and get yourself a fresh slice of pie. I have to go take care of some business."

"Thanks man. I'll see you tonight then!" Eddy ran off towards the pie shop. Razz simply stood in place for a moment smiling. His innocent smile had transformed into something more vile and wicked. Razz looked truly upset. His face was contorted like a child's on Christmas day after realizing he only received an orange for Christmas. Razz then muttered a few words under his breath as Eddy disappeared into the shop.

"Why are they always so easy to fool."

Just A Guy

So the day was quite muggy. Murray just so happened to have gotten lost on the way to a tournament down here in the south blue, and in such, he had needed to figure out how he was going to eat anything. Due to the lot of jobs available over on the large peach plantation, he had managed to successfully navigate the South Blue to Awestrailia. For most of the week, he had found that he was a bit in over his head. He had forgotten that work was so difficult. Luckily he had managed to make day shift for now, so he was pretty much done with work by around this point in the day. He was walking from the gates of the Plantation.

Today, Murray smelled heavily of peaches, having been picking them for the entirety of a week. He was tired from a hard day's work and was sweaty to say the least. Murray would quietly walk along, not really needing to do much, having taken up lodge just outside of the Plantation, in a peach-wood shack. Murray had suspected that it may have belonged to someone else, but it seemed like a vacation kind of place. He would keep walking towards the town, having just today gotten his paycheck. What a wonderful thing that was, a paycheck. Nothing like a piece of paper that declared that he owned money.

He was headed to the Bank to get his several some-odd beli, that he had earned. Looking at it, he was certain that it was extremely high payout for what he was doing having a couple more zeros than he saw on most of his standard paychecks. That wasn't saying much, considering that he had never had one before this day. He was a bit dazed, looking at the various numbers on the check. He would look up and pocket the check as he was suddenly distracted with something more interesting than an extreme paycheck. What he saw now, was a man, wearing a lab coat, with what he could only deduce to be gills. This man... was Extreme. Murray was getting all pumped up by the sheer thought of how tough this guy was to have gills on his neck.

Excitedly, in an extreme manner he would charge up to the man, calling out, "Yo! Extreme gill-neck man! What's up!?" He was of course, extremely friendly, and for what it was worth, he liked seeing really cool things. Even though it was sick in the eyes of most, he was smiling due to the thought of an extreme underwater work out regiment. Murray was strange, but nonetheless he was direct in trying to befriend this guy, if for no good reason, it was extreme friend-making; the activity in which he puts forth 100% into making friends with someone, no matter how overbearing he seems. To note, it hardly served function.

"Extreme gill...neck...well, I haven't heard that one before, so I'll give you that. As for what's up...well, honestly, not a lot. One of my crewmates just decided to punch me for carrying around a piece of peach pie, one I didn't even actually choose to take. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to my studies." He reached his other hand into his lab coat, pulling out the peach there, and holding it to the sun again. His tone had turned soft, almost wistful, and he walked absentmindedly while he examined it, ducking and weaving past people constantly.

"It would seem, even if my studies of biology are near their peak, I have quite a lot to learn about plant anatomy...to think, that I never spent any time at all focusing on these delightful little fruit-bearing organisms. I understand photosynthesis, of course...and I certainly understand the purpose of the fruits. I just never stopped to think how important fruits are to most of the animals of the world. I suppose, since fruits are hard to come by in the ocean, I never paid them much mind." He shrugged, spinning around a woman gracefully; she glanced back at him, her face set in a sneer, and she let out a small huff. Ahriman was still moving effortlessly, with fluid grace; he wasn't even watching to see if the man who had made contact with him was following behind.

He reached the boat after a few minutes, setting the pie down on the gangplank and whistling slightly; his leg rose, easily soaring over the plate, and he began to almost skip towards his room, and the many delights that waited there...perhaps this peach would be what he needed to reach some new epiphany. Perhaps he'd finally managed to discover a way to fix all of the world's problems...but of course, that was a bit too much for him to imagine, even now. It was only a peach, after all.

What sort of secrets could a tiny little peach hold?

The new pie was beyond expectations. The peach flavoring delighted Eddy's tongue with a plethora of flavors, each increasing in quality over the previous one. A few of the fellow patrons paused mid-meal and gave glancing looks towards Eddy. Hushed whispers set the fringes of the room on fire with rumors. The peculiarity seemed to charge the very air, and the small shop grew rather uncomfortable...

Was he doing something to stand out?

A migraine slowly pulsed its way into life behind the acupuncturists left eyebrow. With its throbbing, Eddy could keep count of his heart beats. Bump. Bump. Bump. The noise began to ring louder. Everything around the acupuncturist began to grow faded. Eddy watched in horror as everything around him went dark, and he fell face down into the table beneath him. His pie had been spiked.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Later that night...

Eddy's eyes opened. He was wearing a strange dark blue robe, and his head was searing with pain. "Where am I?" Asked the weary porcupine as he rubbed his eyes.

"Don't you remember, my boy?" Asked an overly hyped up fishman standing next to Eddy. "You were just about to be initiated into the Peach Prune Procession! Remember, you were just about to sign the contract." Razz gave a devilish grin when the word "contract" rolled off his lips. He held out a rather gaudy sheet of old parchment and a single quill. "All you hafta do is sign on the dotted line."

"I-I don't know, Razz. My mom always taught me to read anything before I sign it-"

"Eddy! Would I lead you wrong?" Interrupted the seahorse fishman.

"N-no but I still think I should read it." Replied Eddy with a straight faced smile. His head was swimming, his thoughts were blurred, and he didn't even remember how he got here. Something was wrong, and Eddy knew it. Taking the paper in his hands, Eddy began to read. The words were slow and difficult to interpret. The wording was obtuse to an obscene degree... Or it just seemed that way to the slightly disoriented drugged up doctor.
