A ship sailed moderately off the shore of Awestralia, inbound. It was Arlie's turn at the helm, so he was doing his best to make sure the large boat didn't slam into the docks. Bags under his eyes told the tale of not enough sleep, as he had spent the nights before messing around with stuff. He rubbed his eye, and shouted to the crew, "Land ahead!" He would then get everything ready to stop the ship, pulling up the sail and all that... The currents would lead them to port and Arlie was greeted with the smell of peaches.

The aroma filled the air, and he was more than satisfied. As the ship would become 'parked' for what it was worth, Arlie would go and wake up Arthur. "Hey, Arthur. We're here," he would tell the young boy. Arthur's eyes cracked open a little bit, and he would mutter, "Already? Just 5 more minutes..." Arlie sighed and picked up his kid and got moving to the deck. He wasn't really up and active at this moment, but he could last for a while. Arlie made sure he had his ammo well in stock and his four guns, Crime, Law, Order, and Rebellion.

Then he would finally exit the ship and walked onto the shore. The area was very rural, and there was hardly a dock to speak of. The sun was shining, and the peaches were aromatic, Awestralia really lived up to its name leaving even Arlie's tired eyes in awe. "This place is pretty nice. I wonder what the living cost is..." he muttered to himself. He walked along for a few moments and Arthur would wake up, "Daddy? What smells like peaches?" The young boy would open his eyes and see what all the buzz was about, and he would smile, "Oh wow!"

The buildings were about two stories each, made of peach wood, having a bronzen color to them. They were certainly a sight to behold, it was like a rural town made of gold. Arlie and Arthur would wait just in the grassy area off the shore for the rest of the crew members to show up.

Eddy was sitting up in a chair. He had just transformed a small piece of cloth into a sling for his left arm. His bicep had been damaged badly back on Bausyer Island. That damn piranha fishman's teeth had caused some serious damage. Eddy tied off his sling in a box-knot behind his neck. He tugged at it with his good arm to test the strength. Unfortunately for Eddy, his left arm was also tugged with the sling. A bolt of pain ran up Eddy's arm like lightning. The acupuncturist froze as a large shiver traveled up his body in a rather cartoonish fashion. A few loud curses and other words that should never be repeated could be heard from the storage room for the next few minutes. If anyone had taken the time to listen to the whole spiel they would discover Eddy's vast knowledge of English curse words and other detestable language.

After calming himself down, Eddy took a deep breath. He exhaled slowly and relaxed his mind. He had been really stressed since entering the ship. He had yet to run into Ahriman's pet, but he heard the rumors about it. A giant... Eddy shuddered at the next word... BUG! Who keeps such a freaky thing? Not to mention the fact that it had avoided Eddy's gaze the entire trip was freaking the doctor out. He was paranoid that the thing was watching him from some dark corner. Eddy continually peeked over his shoulder from time to time. The other doctor was creepy enough alone, but it took talent to get a pet even more fucked up than himself.

Eddy stretched his legs at Arlie's call. They made land and it was time for Eddy to make his grand appearance. He slapped out the pair of shades he had found in the ship before leaving Bausyer. He slapped them on his face. Eddy looked incredibly badass with his injury and a pair of sunglasses. His swag level was nearly over 9000, but he wasn't quite that high because that would just be too much swag. Eddy walked out onto the deck and hopped down onto the docks below. The air was filled with a wonderful scent.

Eddy's animalistic instincts took over slightly. He nearly took off running towards the sweetest smell he had ever sniffed, but his swag syndrome stopped him from ruining his perfect image of cool badassery. It was a cobbler pie baking that set Eddy's mind into a haze. It would be the greatest battle of Eddy's life. A small old woman had a pie shop nearby and she had just set out a beautiful peach cobbler to cool. Eddy's mind was locked in a battle with itself. Eddy's feet began to inch towards the stand slowly. A final look of determination crossed the porcupine man's face as he tried to stop himself from running into the shop and ordering a slice.

'Must...
resist...
delicious...
smell...
Gaaahhh.'

Eddy failed at his endeavor. Eddy failed hard. He was sitting at a stool in the pie shop in an instant. He had already placed an order for a slice of delicious cobbler.

Alistair stood tall on the deck of the ship, watching as Eddy and Arlie and the kid took off toward town. He couldn’t help but drift off, thinking about Bausyer Island. Yeah, it was exciting that they put this crew together in such a short time. They even came up with a name: Lawless Justice. But there was a pit in Alistair’s stomach that just grew bigger and bigger every time he thought of Andre “So Jelly” Zivkovic’s words; “Oh man The BOSS is gonna be pissed over this one…” There was clearly something bigger going on than they had originally thought, and Alistair knew that Zivkovic was only the tip of the iceberg.

Pulling away from his thought, Alistair realized they were still missing one person. “Where’s Ahriman?” he questioned. There was almost no doubt in Alistair’s mind that Ahriman was just sitting in his room, messing around with experiments or doing other creepy stuff with his bug pal; however, it was the shear amount of time that the doctor spent in his room that made Alistair wonder what he was doing. “No normal human could stay in isolation that long without going insane….oh wait.” His thoughts were quickly rationalized as he realized that, well, Ahriman was indeed pretty insane. “Hold up guys.” he yelled to the others.

Alistair set a steady pace toward Ahriman’s room, below deck. Seeing as the ship was rather small in size, it only took him a few moments before he stopped in front of the wooden door to Ahriman’s room. Balling his hand into a fist, he knocked on the door. *Knock knock knock* “Ahriman, let’s go.” he said in somewhat commanding voice, “We’re at the island. Hurry up so we can get the job done.” He stood in the hall, waiting for a reply.

The doctor was perched over a petri dish prodding a lump of translucent liquid; it didn't seem to have a color at initial inspection, but as one kept looking, there was a tinge of blue to it. His scalpel prodded it, slicing off a small portion, and he let out a soft sigh as he did. "Viscosity...good. Not quite there, but there's bound to be errors." He brought the substance to his eye, tilting it back and forth, and then dropping it onto a slide. The crew couldn't afford a microscope, of course; Andre's bounty had been enough for them to buy the necessary supplies to get out to sea, and that was all. Instead, he had to make do with a magnifying glass. He brought it to his eye, staring down at the liquid as he shook his head. "Water content...too low. Need to find a way to properly thin it out." He pushed the blob aside, and then pushed away from the desk.

Ever since he'd met Andre, the doctor's mind had been whirring away, moving at mach speed. He'd made connections and distinctions, and he'd bottled no small amount of the fishman's 'jelly' to study. It was...similar to what a true jellyfish had, but nowhere near the same, in many ways. There was enough give to it that he could still support himself on land, and there was still a skeletal system, and organs...he was close to, but not at that level a true jellyfish reached. He opened another book, staring at the pictures within it; after a moment, he put it back, pausing when he heard a knock at the door. He turned towards it, and smiled weakly.

"I'll be out shortly, Mr. Alistair. I just need to change clothes, and get my supplies. If we're going to disembark, I need to be prepared~" He grabbed his lab coat from the bed, swinging it around his back, and sliding his arms through the sleeves. However, he left it unbuttoned, revealing his wiry physique on full display as he opened the door. He perched his glasses back on the bridge of his nose, then clapped his hands together jovially. He seemed somewhat disheveled, as if he'd lost a lot of sleep, but that hadn't effected him too much. He walked out onto the deck of the boat, glancing across the faces of his crewmates.

"We've been at sea for quite some time, and if I remember right our fruit supplies dwindled long ago. Make sure that you all get a healthy dose of vitamins while we're here; there's no telling when we'll go out to sea again, and even a doctor can't do too much about scurvy. Just remember, gentlemen; a balanced diet is one of the most important things for your health. It'll help you heal, keep you energized, and give you everything you need to catch whatever pirates we run across. That's hard enough to do at sea...so let's make sure we all have a double of peaches."

He walked down the gangplank, onto the sand, and sighed; Ahriman hated the feeling of solid land under his feet. It made him feel much too pinned down.

Arlie would sit in wait as the group appeared to be getting their bearings. He would smirk as Arthur would quickly wake up and stir wildly, trying to jostle against Arlie to get out of his hold to run around. Arlie didn't want another incident like Bausyer island, so he held his grip, as most of the elbowing, though painful, was playful. Arlie wasn't one to complain about a child's flailing anyways, so he would hold fast as the crew would begin to gather. The hipster guy, Eddy, was still trying to show what Arlie learned to be his 'swag' even in his cast. It was entertaining, as he felt a pair of sunglasses was enough to make him look badass. It helped, but he might want to try having a cooler injury. Of course, if his idea of badass was to have the most signatures on his cast, he could have at it.

Arlie chuckled a bit and Arthur would begin to inquire about that one giant bug that was on the ship. Arlie would look at his son and spoke, "Well, its a giant centipede if I am correct. Not quite poisonous in its youth, but it appears to be more of a pet to the doctor. Quite frankly, I don't see too many sea-faring doctors, so I'm feeling it's safe to assume they all have a pet that odd." Arthur would laugh, "That's awesome! Do you thing there are any giant flying dragons with hurricane breath and super strength!?" Arlie would scratch his head, "In the Grand Line? I wouldn't doubt it..."

Arthur would then notice that the captain of the group, nay, the crew, was knocking on the 'lab' door, where the 'doctor' resided. "Speaking of doctor, why is he so isolated?" he would ask. Arlie would look at Arthur with a slight grin of surprise, "Where'd you learn a big word like that?" Arthur would raise his chin up proudly, "I listened to you and the people talking about him." Arlie would scratch his head as the doctor, Ahriman would step out from the 'lab', looking sorta sleep-depraved, "I don't actually know, but he got a sample of that Jellyfish's jelly and he's been locked in that room ever since. Heck, he requests that we bring him food..." He would smile a bit, "He's a good guy, I just wish he would just eat with the crew once in a while."

Arthur would sigh, "Daddy, I want a peach." Arlie would nod and start walking, and spoke at the crew, "I'm going to head into town, I've gotta check out the local peach supply!"

There was a large gathering in the pie shop. It seemed that this particular cobbler house was quite popular. It was almost strange. Everyone seemed to be eating the delicious pies and it oddly eased Eddy's nerves. As he realized he was part of the crowd a natural feeling of "swag" took him over. He was part of the cool kids. He was the third kid picked for the kickball team. He wasn't the first one chosen because he stood out, and he wasn't the uncool last one chosen. Eddy was near the front but behind a safety layer of others. Right where he loved to be.

His pie finally came in. This would be the last tiny bit of cash Eddy had left over from the group's small journey on Bausyer. He flipped the old woman his last beli as she slammed a slice of the delectable pie on the counter and slid it down the wooden table so it came directly in front of Eddy. The smell was incredibly overwhelming! Eddy's mouth was watering as he raised a fork up in the air. His hand swung upwards with all the vivacity of a hawk diving upon its prey. His mind was in a rush. It was adrenaline.

Eddy's thoughts were racing as this singular moment seemed to traverse a lifetime. The pie was like a mouthwatering rainbow explosion being produced from the exuding mists of a cascading waterfall. The rainbows traveled across his mind and illuminated the darkness. There it found his instincts. They were animalistic in nature due to the devils fruit that had transfigured his body. The thoughts erupted out of the darkness as the seven colors illuminated them. Kill. Death. Eat. Devour. Survive. Mate. They hit Eddy's mind in that one indisputable second as his fork was raised. Everything in his mind seemed to stop as a snarl began to escape his lips. His fork reached its highest point in its travel cycle and it began to fall.

The fork's acceleration climbed at an incredible pace. Gravity fueled its descent as it dropped like a thunderbolt that split the trees that had grown too tall and dared to challenge the sky. Like those trees, Eddy's pie was split open down the center as the metallic bolts devoured the crust that was only as thick as Eddy's sanity. Then, like a wild beast, the man devoured half of the slice in one gulp.

Heaven hit Eddy's tongue in that moment. A splash of flavor so powerful that even Starzune's music couldn't defile it. It was wondrous and wild all at the same time. Eddy's mouth went on a tropical adventure through the jungles of the island of rare animals as his taste buds searched for the mystical treasure fruit rumored to exist there. They passed a deep blue stream along the way. The stream ran in reverse up a waterfall of desires. Eddy's tongue caught a fish made of peach flavored syrup upon the ends of his tongue and the sugar whisked his mind off to the edges of its already paper thin sanity... And then he was back in the stool prepped for his second bite. Eddy looked down with an incredibly eager face only to find the other half of his pie had gone missing.

Feelings of an anger so pure that they could destroy Hiroshima flared in Eddy's mind. He began to transform into his hybrid form and attempt to smell out the pie thief but quickly realized the attempt was futile. His sense of smell wasn't that advanced, even in his hybrid form, and he would never be able to identify that specific pie's smell anyhow considering the sheer mass of pie in the shop. Eddy stopped himself from transforming and put on a lighthearted smile as he looked to the waitress behind the counter. "Excuse me miss, but did you happen to see who took the other half of my pie?" asked Eddy in an overly forced polite tone.

It had been a long time since Wilson had traveled together with so many different people, and it took some getting used to.

Wilson hadn't doubted the initial decision to band together, even if he secretly thought that the name 'Lawless Justice' was a little much. But there was no denying the fact that they had worked well together; Zivkovic had been captured without any casualties, Arlie's son Arthur had been rescued, and the stolen goods had been recovered. If they could achieve that same level of success elsewhere, then what was the harm in giving it a shot? Doing some good his way had been the reason that he had gotten into the business in the first place, after all.

Alistair had established himself as their de facto leader, and the rest of the crew had been quick enough in finding themselves their own little places on Zivkovic's ship, and that was well and good. Eddy had set up shop in the steerage, and if one were to listen closely, it was possible to hear him cursing and complaining over the injury he had sustained at the hands of the fishmen. The doctor Ahriman had locked himself away with his experiments, and seemed to be busy brooding over the chunk he had sliced off of Zivkovic for some reason. Arlie kept a close eye on his son, and Wilson had to wonder if the last incident had sparked the father into being overprotective. He had every right, really.

Wilson had taken it upon himself to ensure that the former fishman's ship was properly seaworthy for the crew's future journeys. When you were a fishman, it was easy enough to simply dive overboard and scout for food and land, so perhaps that was the reason for the scarcity of nautical navigation equipment and variety in their food stores. Awestralia would be as good a place as any to re-stock on what they needed and relax for a little while.

Unlike the rest of the crew, Wilson had been sure to get plenty of sleep, making the most of his off-duty shifts from directing the ship's course. That was why he was the last to rise from the ship's interior. By the time he reached the deck, Eddy and Arlie were already gone. Ahriman had likely gone off to town as well, though Wilson had heard the slithery movements of his pet from just behind his door.

"Might as well see what I can pick up," Wilson murmured to no one in particular. He patted the handle of the gun at his left hip on habit before striding briskly down the gangplank and towards the town proper. The sweet scent of peaches rolled out to greet him, and his stomach rolled over. Perhaps getting a meal would come before re-supply- he could certainly afford it, after their last bounty. His mother had made fairly decent peach cobbler, once upon a time. It was likely that the island's inhabitants could do better.

Ahriman walked through the streets, trying his best not to draw attention to himself; for a shirtless man wearing only a half-open coat, with a pair of gills slapped on his neck, this was much harder than it sounded. But right now, as much as he wanted to start studying these peaches, to find out more and more about these people and this place, he had a more important task first. He DID feel slightly bad for spending so much time locked away in his quarters, and he knew that it wasn't the way people were supposed to behave. He'd made a promise to assist these people, and help them on their journey. To him, that meant studying everything he could, and always keeping his medical knowledge as current as possible. To the rest of them, this seemed to mean spending his time sharing stories and meals with them; something told Ahriman they wouldn't want to hear more than one of his stories.

He sighed, glancing this way and that. There were peach advertisements everywhere, from peach-made meals to peach-made medicines. The doctor had to raise an eyebrow at this one; he'd never heard of peaches being much good for actually curing diseases or pains. Like any fruit, it had its merits, but the idea that a peach could do the same things as his own concoctions made him pause. He walked towards this doorway, to find a rather young woman standing behind the counter, holding a peach up to a light, as if she could peer inside it. She looked no older than 16, though she held an air of competence and experience around her that left no doubt she was, if not THE doctor, then at least one of them. Ahriman stood nearby silently, watching as she turned the peach this way and that, then set it on the table, prodding it with a clearly fake nail. As Ahriman leaned forward he could see a sticker of...of course, a peach, right on the nail. She continued to poke and prod the peach, before she finally placed it under the table, and then glanced up at him. "Hello, there. Sorry for not saying anything sooner, I was just testing the peach."

"For what? Explosive properties? I've only been here for...about 12 minutes and already I'm not dismissing the idea that someone would make a weapon out of peaches." He smirked a bit, glancing around the place as he heard the girl laugh. It was a sweet, innocent laugh, and it stabbed right at the doctor's heart for some reason. He almost turned right around and left, but instead he gave a wan grin, and then placed a hand on the desk. "But we can talk more about that later. I must confess, I came in here for some more medical reasons. I saw outside that you're selling these peaches as some sort of homeopathic cure. For what, might I ask? And why?"

The girl shrugged, reaching behind her without ever looking backwards. Her hand touched on a leatherbound book, which she placed on the counter and flipped open. A hand ran down the page, her lips moving slowly as she kept reading. "To answer your first question, I was testing a batch of peaches from a new plantation. We make sure that we only sell the best peaches. Hold one up to the light and you can see worms. Poke them right and you can tell if they're ripe. As for what they can cure...that depends on what's wrong with you. They're really high in antioxidants of all kinds, so if you eat one your body can detox a lot easier. Peaches here on Awestralia have almost five times the iron content of most, and on some plantations that goes up to ten times. No one knows why, but it means people who eat our peaches tend to be much healthier overall. And, of course, there's rumors that it can help a man's performance." She spoke the last words almost absentmindedly, reaching beneath the counter to grab a peach and place it on the table. Her free hand began spinning it, as Ahriman sighed.

"Do you even know what you just said? You hardly look enough to know what men perform at. Track? Talent shows?" He was still smirking, but it was almost a mocking grin now. The girl looked up, sticking out her tongue. She tossed the peach at his head, and he plucked it from the air absentmindedly, as she stuck out her tongue. "Of course I know. I look young, but I'm 22. My father's been teaching me all about peaches."

Ahriman rose the peach, staring at it, then at her. "...Are you coming onto me, miss? I can't help but think you put that part about male performance in there for a reason."

"Yeah. Because every guy's afraid he won't perform when the time comes."

Ahriman's face fell at that, and he let out a low cough before doing his best to speak again. "Yes...of course. Regardless, I'm a doctor as well, though my focus is primarily on animals. I must admit, I never thought to look very closely at any kind of plant, much less a peach. Would you mind if I borrowed this? I promise to come back tonight and share whatever I find with you. Perhaps then we can see who's the better doctor."

The girl flicked a hand towards the door, still grinning kindly as she turned back towards the book. Ahriman sighed, turning back around and rising the peach to the sun. He squeezed it, and after a second or two let out a low hum. He turned it around in his hand slowly. It was hard to be sure when he looked at it like this, but he could almost see...crystals in the peach's flesh.

Arlie would travel deep into town, as he would view various things, testing the peach wood for special properties outside of just being wonderful building material, making sure that Arthur didn't run too far out of sight, he purchased a peach from a local peach vendor, one of many of course. Arlie gave the peach to Arthur so that his kid would have something to eat for a bit. He noticed a slight burst of energy in the boy, from the fruits being really good, and the natural sugars they provided. Arlie was happy to see Arthur responding so positively to a mere fruit.

Arthur, was running around the area giddily, pointing out various things innocently, and was practically ramming his little afro into walls, only bounce off harmlessly. This was humorous enough, but Arthur was doing this all while eating a peach in the middle of it all. Suddenly a woman would walk up to the young boy, and in the most sexy southern drawl that Arlie had witnessed (exaggerating of course), asked Arthur, "Hey now, where are your parents?" Arlie would walk over and intervene the meeting, speaking to the woman, "I'm his Dad." Arthur would run behind Arlie's leg, and hide, "Daddy, this lady's scary." Arlie would look at his kid with a questioning stare before looking back at the woman who was looking at him. She had a cowgirl look to her now that he looked and he saw that she had a pistol strapped to her hip, pretty sexy design as far as guns go. "Oh? Where's his Mom then? A wife to a man like you must get really jealous of other women," the woman would speak. Arlie would feel quite bad all of a sudden, "Yeah... she was... But she's not really... with us anymore."

The woman would catch his drift, and put her hand to her mouth and speak, "Oh, I am so sorry." Arlie would wave his hand dismissingly, "Poking the subject is only going to make Arthur remember." Arlie would crouch down to pick up his son, patting him on the head, "Don't worry Arthur... she's nice." The woman would ask him, now interested in the subject, "Oh, his name is Arthur? What a cute name~" Arthur would giggle a bit in response. The woman continued, "Does his daddy have a cute name just like his son?" Arlie would smile, "I dunno. Does the name Arlie sound cute to you?" The woman, would now introduce herself with, "Only if the name Jayda sounds cute to you, hun~"

As they would converse, Arthur would attempt to get some words in edgewise, but man they were flirting at each other like a couple of players, didn't miss a beat or make a step out of rhythm.

"Why hold it there young man. I might be able to help you out," called a calm and smooth voice. Eddy turned quickly to see a strange sight. It was a gentlemanly seahorse fishman. He was dressed sharply with a full tuxedo, a black cane with a white tip, an overly large fedora, and a thick manly mustache at the end of his long fishman snout.

"You can?" Eddy's question was well placed. The pie shop was fairly crowded and anyone on the island could have swiped his pie.

"Why don't we take a small walk boy. We can discuss this issue on the way. Tell you what, I'll buy you another slice of the pie as well," replied the gentlemanly seahorse, "the name's Mercury, Razz Mercury." As soon as he spoke his name Eddy's head began to ring with warning signals. Something about that name struck him as odd. Eddy's mind worked full circle for a brief moment before the realization struck him.

"You are the Mr. Mercury! The same one who owns Mercury Peach Orchards? AKA the richest man on the entire island?" Eddy's freakout was justified. It isn't every day you get to meet the Mr. Mercury! Eddy's swag level was over 9000 at this moment.

"Yes, yes. I am the Mr. Mercury, but let's not talk about me right now. Let's talk about you. I noticed something about you. It is almost like you have some kind of special quality to you, kind of like a umm..."

"Swagger?"

"Yes! That is the perfect word for it," replied Mr. Mercury, "you exude this 'swagger' from your very being." Eddy's face actually reddened up with embarrassment, or it would have if that would have been the cool thing to do. This was a truly phenomenal moment in Eddy's life. This was the first man to ever call him out and show appreciation for his swagtastic swagger level. Something strange was going on. This man was unreal. The sheer intensity of the moment forced Eddy to completely forget the entire disappearing pie. He was beguiled by this smooth talking seahorse. Mr. Mercury continued his conversation with the young porcupine man, "Though... It is too bad that your crew mates are so... well you know. You guys don't have the best... How do I say this?"

"Coherency?" Interrupted Eddy.

"Yes that is the word. You don't seem to be the closest of groups," replied Razz, "I mean they did leave you alone didn't they?"

"Well they did leave me alone but," replied Eddy.

"Exactly," exclaimed Mercury as he slightly interrupted Eddy, "they left you alone! Not to mention that horrid one who just came in and... I'm sorry I have said to much."

"Wait what?! What were you going to say?" Eddy's voice held a slightly hostile tone. He truly wanted to know what Mr. Mercury was going to say next.

"Well, don't you think it is funny that out of everyone here only your pie was stolen?"

"Well yeah, but I figured that was because I wasn't a local," replied Eddy.

"Look around you son. Everyone here is from a differnent area. Someone singled you out," said Mr. Mercury.

"But I have only been on this island for like five minutes. If someone singled me out it would have to be someone I already knew... Wait you don't mean..."

"Yes that is exactly what I mean," replied the seahorse fishman.

"Are you certain it was a member of my crew? D-d-do you know which one it was?" Eddy asked his question with a tone of disbelief in his voice. He had never doubted his crew's true motives before but what the seahorse was saying made sense. They didn't need Eddy. They had another doctor who, in all honesty, was even more skilled than Eddy. Could they have been using him this whole time?

"Yes I know which one it was," replied Razz.

"Well who?" Eddy was getting excited. His voice was raised slightly and he was on the edge.

"Well, I quite know how to describe him. He had... Gills of some sort on his neck. Kind of a strange guy and he stood out a lot" replied Mercury.

"Ahriman? We don't really see eye to eye but I don't think he would purposely antagonize me?" Eddy's voice was wavering. His note hit a particular low on this phrase. His own doubt was apparent.

"Could he have had a reason to do it?"

"Well, we haven't always seen eye to eye. We are both doctors in our crew but our methods are vastly different... Well a crew as small as mine does only need one doctor, and I wont lie; Ahriman is more skilled than me... But I'm still not convinced. Do you have any proof Mr. Mercury? Eddy's voice was regaining confidence.

"I am not sure... perhaps if... I got it, exclaimed Mercury as he snapped his fingers, "indeed I can prove it my friend. I will talk to your friend and pry a confession from his lips. He will have no reason to suspect me, a third party, upon this. You can hide in a nearby crate or barrel and eavesdrop upon the conversation. We will expose him for the villain he is. Oh, and call me Razz." Razz offered his hand to the acupuncturist.

"Well I guess... I mean it couldn't hurt anything right?" Eddy asked his question in an innocent but curios tone. He wanted to know the truth. Eddy grabbed hold of the Peach Baron's hand and shook it firmly. "Nice to meet you Razz. You can call me Eddy."

"I assure you that I will reveal the truth Eddy," chimed Razz in a slightly innocent tone.

The saccharine sweet taste of the peach cobbler lingered on his tongue almost in spite of what he drank to wash it away, and Wilson had to admit: peach cobbler on Awestralia wasn't just good; it was arguably superior to anything his mother could have made.

"How do you guys do it?" He asked frankly as the pretty young waitress cleared the table.

"Oh, lots of love and care work wonders!" the waitress replied with a titter, and then she was away.

Wilson grunted. He wasn't really sure what he had expected to hear, for what could she really have said? That they had spiked the pie with some kind of narcotic or something? He left the girl a generous tip on the table and slouched his way out of the shop, a bit unnerved by the good humor that seemed to shine in everyone's eyes on his way out. Awestralia seemed untouched by the problems he had seen on so many other islands- poverty, crime, weekly pirate invasions. Everything was so goddamn idyllic that it was making him restless. And then the fact that he was getting restless because the town was so peaceful was confusing in itself. What exactly would he have preferred instead of a nice quiet town?

Wilson continued to wander on aimlessly, resolving to put the quandary out of his mind and hope that they shoved off soon. A young boy, no more than eight, puttered by on the strangest motor-powered scooter he had ever seen. Set right between the handlebars was half of a peach rotating lazily on some kind of juicer. Clear juice flowed down a transparent tube down the length of the scooter and into what Wilson assumed to be the motor. It was the most ridiculous thing he had ever seen- a peach-powered scooter- but the child rode by blissfully unaware of his skepticism.

"Something wrong, stranger?" The old woman behind the counter asked him as he entered a shop by the annoying quaint name of Maps n' Such. Wilson shook his head slowly.

"I'm just getting used to seeing some of the...remarkable uses that you people have found for peaches. I can't imagine the science that goes into some of this stuff...it seems impossible."

The woman laughed, and when her eyes closed, it seemed to form a dozen more wrinkles around her eyes. The rouge on her cheeks, Wilson noticed, even seemed to mimic the color of a peach. Fucking peaches. "I can't rightly say I understand it either, but I sure do appreciate it! I imagine that the first settlers on this island must have despaired when they realized that the only crop they could grow was peaches, but thankfully they were a resourceful bunch. Can I help you find anything?"

Wilson listed a few items from his mental checklist and had to put up with the woman's cheerful but constant banter for the next ten minutes as she walked him from one corner of the store to the next. When all was said and done, he had been informed about the merits of peach cream on pockmarks and acne, warned away from visiting Shill's Tavern, which was a regular den of iniquity, and prodded into meeting the woman's daughter, because 'they would look so good together.'

Wilson left with lighter pockets but a considerably brighter outlook on the rest of the day. The bag of nautical equipment was stitched together from something the woman called 'peachflesh', which was basically the dried skin of peaches sewed together. He was thoroughly convinced that no amount of handwashing would get the smell out of his skin.

Ahriman was still walking through the streets, glancing at the peach. It was a strange thing in many ways; he'd never taken the time to look all that closely at a peach, but he knew that their seeds were all stuck inside a central pit; a much deeper patch of black in the center confirmed this. But these strange shapes, almost like crystals niggled at the back of his mind, bringing forth an almost childlike curiosity. He continued to walk along, when from behind him a voice shouted. He turned his head to see a woman walking forward, holding out what looked like a half-eaten pie. Her face was as wrinkled as the peach flesh in his hand, and the things he saw when she smiled were in her mouth, and presumably rooted there, and thus must have been teeth. He quickly slid the peach into an inner pocket, glancing at her.

"Is something wrong, miss? I don't believe we've met, and I can't think of any reason you'd be offering me a pie like this."

"It's simple, dearie! You met my granddaughter, didn't you? She's a sweet girl, even if she does take after her dad a bit too much. Troublemakers, both of 'em. Don't know the first thing about good ol' hospitality. I was just sitting down to a snack when she told me about you. Well, I knew she wouldn't give you anything for visiting, so I may as well. Take what's left. If you don't, you'll break an old lady's heart."

Ahriman's hand reached into his pocket, touching against the peach there once more; the mystery of this piece of fruit still burned in his mind, but as much as he wanted to simply turn and leave, he couldn't. There were certain things people just didn't do, and ignoring an old lady was one of them. "I assure you, she gave me more than enough. There's no need for something like-"

"Oh, dearie please. I eat too much already; it's just about the only thing a woman my age can do. Just you take that, and enjoy it."

The doctor nodded mutely, plucking the pie from her hand and balancing it on his palm. As he began to duck and weave between the crowds, evading everyone nimbly, he bumped directly into someone. He took a step back, straightening his glasses with one hand as he nodded. "My apologies. I was-" He caught a patch of flesh, colored with hues no human could hope to reach, and almost bony. His heartbeat rose almost instantly, and he looked up to see a man smiling at him, a curled mustache slapped right on his face, and a tophat perched precariously. The fishman thrust a hand out, and Ahriman stared at it for a moment.

"Not a problem my friend, noooot a problem. I wasn't really watching out either. Happens a lot of the time around here. But listen...you're new here, aren't you? I can smell green on you, and I can see it on your face; anyone who's been here for more than 10 minutes tends to get a certain look."

"Yes, I'm new here. My crew landed here to stock up, and prepare for the next leg of our journey. I didn't realize this place was so...sociable, however."

"What'd you expect? We're a farming country. Tourism's one of our biggest sellers. We gotta be nice to the visitors if we want someone to hock all our peaches off on." The man's voice was easy, smooth, and even to Ahriman left him feeling wrapped in warmth. He still stared at the hand, and Razz shook his head as he wiped it against the suit. "No no, don't tell me. You're surprised I'm a fishman, aren't you? And a businessman at that. No, no, I know. Most of my kind are...how should I put this..."

"I would say self-sufficient, myself."

"Self-sufficient works PERFECTLY. A lot of fishmen don't see much point in shaking hands with humans and being out in the public. They wanna spend all their time at the bottom of the ocean, doing shit for themselves by themselves. I'm not at all like them, friend. I know that the days of prejudice are long past, and you humans aren't to blame. So listen. Let me buy you a slice of pie or something."

Ahriman rose the pie, smirking just a bit. "I'm afraid that you're a bit too late. I already have a pie."

"Oh?" When the fishman spoke this time, he sounded just a little bit too excited. One hand began to run across his mustache, stroking the hair and almost uncurling it as he leaned forward. "Looks like someone's already taken a bite out of it, though. Looks like someone was enjoying it long before you got it, huh?"

"Yes, that's right. I was given this pie by someone else. To be honest I would've been perfectly fine without it, but they were pretty insistent."

"Oh, I perfectly understand. You don't just pass up a free pie."

"No, it would seem not..."

Eddy walked through the crowd a decent pace from Razz as they neared Ahriman. The gentlemanly seahorse sure knew his way around a crowd. He seemed to weave through the people without the slightest difficulty. It was surely the mark of a man who was raised in a densely populated area. Eddy was making sure to keep up with the man, but it was difficult. Eddy's swag level ensured he wouldn't move for any other passerby. So many random bumpings slowed his pace.

Finally Ahriman came into view. Razz immediately went in to converse with the man. It was an odd pair for certain. A colorful gentleman seahorse and a demented man with gills. Despite this the people in the area continued walking past them like they didn't exist, almost to the point of ignoring them completely. No one seemed to ignore Eddy however. The constant stream of people coming through made it extremely difficult to overhear Razz and Ahriman's verbal exchange. Eddy was only able to pick up pieces, but those pieces were more than enough since he witnessed the pie with his own eyes.

Eddy scanned the piece in Ahriman's hands. He lifted the edges of his sunglasses up revealing his eyes. The rounded balls of black sifting in a sea of gray shriveled at the light. A single word escaped his mouth in a gasp-like whisper; "Jesus..." Eddy wasn't sure what this expression meant, but he was certain it fit the situation. This was Eddy's nightmare come true. The pie in Ahriman's hand was indeed Eddy's. There was no mistaking that pie. It had brought boundless joy to Eddy and it was stolen in cold blood from his plate. Why would Ahriman steal it? Did he really think of Eddy as just a joke? Did the rest of the crew feel that way too? The porcupine man was boiling himself with his own doubt. There was nothing he could do about it. Something seemed to be driving him along this path. That was HIS pie, and they had the audacity to steal it? Even if they didn't like him why would they steal his food? Eddy grew angrier and angrier as the seconds went on. Finally he snapped.

Eddy stomped through the crowd shoving the other pedestrians aside as he made his way towards Ahriman. The porcupine's anger reached its peak as he raised his right hand in a fast moving approach. His fist uncurled as it moved. Even if he wanted to, Eddy still had enough self restraint to hold back his fist. He aimed a slap at Ahriman's right cheek. Eddy voiced his anger loudly as he attempted to slap Ahriman, "You bastard!" If his strike were successful he would simply turn his back to Ahriman and disappear into the crowd.

It took Wilson a moment or two to recognize Ahriman- the fishman had caught his eye first, purely because of how out of place the seahorse was amongst the rest of the crowd. So far, Wilson had seen nothing but humans in the shops and on the streets. He didn't consider himself a racist, but the bounty hunter would be lying to himself if the first thing that the seahorse brought to mind was Andre Zivkovic. Was this one of his cohorts that had tracked them down to get revenge for their boss?

Then he realized that he knew the man that the seahorse was talking to, and he relaxed. Ahriman's business was his own. He's probably asking about whatever he took from Zivkovic after he was taken down. I'm sure he's probably insulting the seahorse just by looking at him, too. How awkward must that have been, to be talking to a human with gills on his neck. Wilson smirked slightly and shook his head.

He was rounding the corner towards the road leading up to the docks when a flurry of movement and a familiar voice caught his attention. Something was going on between Ahriman and...was it Peru? It certainly looked like him--his baseball cap was familiar, at least. Wilson couldn't make out exactly what was going on between them, but it was clear to see from the way that the doctor stormed off that he was upset.

I wonder what went down between those two? If any kind of rivalry had sparked between the two physicians on the ship, Wilson had missed it. Part of him was all for walking on and ignoring whatever had just occurred between the two-- Wilson's skill in conflict resolution usually started and ended at his sword-- but they were his crew now. That was supposed to mean something...and if it didn't yet, maybe he should work towards changing that. Wilson adjusted the weight of the peachflesh bag on his arm and started towards the eccentric doctor.

"What was that all about, Ahriman? Peru's cast itchy or something?"

Ahriman was still deep in conversation with Razz, too captivated to turn away; he was returning to the special sort of tunnel vision he got when he was pursuing a particularly amazing bit of knowledge. This time, his talk with Razz was leaving him unable to even notice the world around him; not only was this a seahorse fishman, one rare enough that he'd never actually met one before now; mermen and mermaid variants were all too common, but it seemed that seahorse FISHMEN were surprisingly rare. If nothing else, they didn't seem especially different from most humans...perhaps this was what he needed. A chance to find the first leap, the first abnormality, the genesis of these beings.

Of course, the conversation itself was enlightening, even though there was no talk of fishmen. Razz was a charismatic man by any accounts, even Ahriman could tell. The complexities of social interactions and syntax were something Ahriman had spent years trying to figure out, and Razz seemed to grasp them with such ease. His humor was flawless, his timing and delivery just perfect. There was no way Ahriman could look away from Razz in time to stop Eddy's blow. He didn't even hear someone approaching, until a hand blurred out of nowhere. It struck Ahriman's cheek, sending him stumbling away. The strike wasn't that hard, but the shock of it was enough to snap Ahriman out of his fugue. He stared back at the pie, then at the peach in his other hand, and finally at Eddy. His tone was quiet, filled with hints of confusion as he transferred the peach to the top of the pie, adjusting his glasses. Obviously this did nothing, but the hopeless, almost pathetic look he had as he did it made it much easier to convey his lack of understanding.

"Mr. Peru? Have I offended you in some way?" He finally put his hand back by his side, glancing hopelessly at Razz. The fishman's expression was almost sour now, though he merely gave a shrug and leaned forward. "I'll find out. You just enjoy the town. Make sure to buy lots of peaches. Mercury Orchards, if you can find 'em." He winked, turning away and sliding an arm around Eddy's shoulder. His tone immediately became jovial, warm, and concilatory. "Eddy, my boy. I think right now you need to get away from it all. Come with me, and I'll buy you a slice of pie. A la mode, this time."

Ahriman cradled his cheek, staring at Frank like some sort of wounded animal. "I...confess this is not my area of expertise. I still don't know what I've done to offend Mr. Peru, but I do know that I need to get back to the ship." He turned swiftly, still rubbing his cheek absentmindedly as he slid towards the ship, clearly lost in his own thoughts.
