"Respect the darkness, as it brings light to harmony."

"Huh." -- he muttered as the Marine vessel rocked back and forth as it approached Karaoke Island. With a fishing pole in-hand, Usuaroku Jaqk found himself being sent to Karaoke Island to investigate several murders that have taken place. While murders were priority cases, Jaqk's superior officer didn't find an issue with sending a non-commissioned officer to take care of the investigation, especially one of Usuaroku's caliber. If anything, he was the best choice they had at their disposal, at the time the order was given. He had no objections, of course. His sense of mystery needed to be fill, and the shadiness that Karaoke Island provided, would do just that.

He was dropped off at the harbor, and the Marine vessel had disembarked soon there after, he had no superior nor subordinates, he was left with his wit and intelligence. With a single suitcase thrown over his shoulder, and his Ringo in it's holster on his left, Jaqk would begin to make his way into the depths of Karaoke Island. From the file he was given, he had taken note that these murders had taken place at night, and the victims all seemed to be men. With that being the case, his guard was on alert for the remainder of the evening. Despite his lack of true weaponry, he trusted his Ringo more than he would most.

The Marine Base of which he had left from had made reservations at the local Symphonic Inn, which is where Jaqk had headed. The streets seemed a bit lonely, which was to be expected with the likes of a murder running amok. There were a few locals whom were heading home for the night, some of them who had taken notice to Jaqk's presence. He was an odd-looking fellow, indeed, if it weren't for his flamboyant and eccentric attire, he would appear to among the ranks of the average Marines. If that were the case, he wouldn't have the amount of respect he has earned, if not for his abilities in combat, for his respect and work he put's into the World Government, despite his non-commissioned rank as Master Chief Petty Officer.

The bell chimed as he entered the Symphonic Inn, stepping through the doors, Jaqk too in a quick notice of his surroundings; there was a seating area with a couch and a set of chairs, a door which appeared to be connected to the diner that was next door, a set of stairs which lead to the second, and third floors respectively and the check-in counter. Behind the counter was someone who could par with Jaqk in the of unusual appearances category, with hair styled to that of a clef note and what appeared to be a tattoo that filled his entire right arm, of a random assortment of musical notes and instruments. He was lanky, and a bit on the short side, but his voice chimed like a beautiful symphony. "Welcome to the Symphonic Inn, my friend, come on in~" -- he sang as the door closed behind Jaqk's steps.

"Eh?" -- Jaqk mused as he stepped forward toward the counter, dropping the suitcase he carried to his side and setting it on the wooden floor, "Is the singing necessary?" -- he questioned with a bit of humor in his tone, though the man behind the counter smiled and responded with the same tone as before, "Why yes, it is~ Does it bother you, friend?" -- the Petty Officer shrugged as the answer, and soon there after retrieved the note from his superior officer from his blazer's pocket, which had the confrontation for the reservation, granting Jaqk one week to investigate the crimes at hand.

"Room two-oh-seven, friend~" -- the Innkeeper sang, without even confirming the letter, and took Jaqk's appearance as enough to confirm he was indeed the Marine sent to investigate the murders. He handed Jaqk one of the many keys on the wall behind the counter, and without another word, Jaqk headed to his room, of which the likeliness of his spending the rest of the evening, reading up on the notes and reports of the murders, without even making an attempt to sleep. He's somewhat of a work-a-holic, after all.

"Docket Number 4.1" A lone harsh sounding voice spoke to itself as it began looking out towards the beautiful sea towards the island of 'Karoke'. "Wait... am I suppose to be doing dockets?" He broke away from the cold sounding demeanor for a moment just to question himself. He hadn't been in charge of Division M&M for very long, and considering this was simply his fourth case he wasn't exactly looking forward to messing it up either. The hairs on his neck were on end once again at the idea of getting to dwelve deeper into the supernatural and mythical... or simply just the weird.

"If I'm the one in charge... why am I writing dockets anyways? Wouldn't I have to give a direct report to my superiors?" The figure continued to ask himself while sitting in the back of a marine ship away from everyone. The few good men on the ship seemed to avoid him, and with good reason. Whoever was in the back seemed to be talking to himself, and carrying on a full fledged conversation too. It was unknown if he was simply lost in the moment speaking to himself, or whatever. But, for their own safety they simply left him alone until they were roughly thirty meters within range of Karoke Island.

A single man in his marine uniform marched towards the individual who had been sitting in the back of the ship and threw up a salute. Before he could even get a word in edgewise, Fenix stood to his feet and simply walked past him. Well aware of what his presence meant, he felt talking about it would be a waste of both of their times as the Ensign gazed out towards Karoke Island with a slight grin on his face."Case Number 4.1 of the Myth and Mist Marine Division. An investigation into a string of unknown murders on Karoke Island." Fenix stopped for a moment to take in a great deal of air before the ship docked.

Without saying a word to his marines, he simply gave them a salute which was returned. With that, Fenix knew it was time for his mission on the island of Karoke to begin.

Fenix had been informed that he would be acting as support for another crew that was already on the island. His job was to basically look over and assist in any unknown aspects of the case should they arise. He was to meet this person at the 'Symphonic Inn'. Quite the name for an island such as this, being here almost reminded Fenix of the contest he'd entered on Karoke Island not too long ago. Unfortunately now was not the time to feel nostalgia towards days since past, especially when there was a mystery at hand.

Making his way towards the Symponic Inn, Fenix couldn't help but question the over the top design scheme of the island itself. Wasting little to no time, Fenix quickly pushed open the door to notice a very odd looking person. He seemed to have a music fetish of some sorts... not that Fenix himself was the best person to question someone else's personal tastes when it came to those things. Whatever reason this guy had for having musical notes on his clothes, skin, building, and hair were his own business.

Walking to the front desk and looking at the man square in his eyes, Fenix opened his mouth with the same tone he'd had earlier when practicing on the ship. "Ensign Fenix Dröm of Marine Division M&M. I've come to meet with another marine in an investigation." The man behind the counter simply stared at Fenix as if confused for a moment. He then quickly responded with "Why hello~ It's nice to meet you too~". Reminding Fenix that he'd forgotten to give out a proper introduction before stating his objective. There was now a lingering awkward silence in the area between the two men that neither of them could properly disperse.

"Interesting.." -- he mused to himself, and index and thumb on the tip of his chin as he sat in the corner of the single-person room. A bed made for one, a table and a set of chairs in the corner and a dresser for clothing or any personal items one might bring with them during their travels. Nonetheless, Jaqk had lost himself in the notes and the reports that had been filed. Interviews and other such information that had been gathered by the locals or other persons of interest, though with that thought in mind, there weren't any suspects as of yet.

"They were all married.. which seems to be the only thing they have in common.." -- he had been through each of the interviews with the a few of the locals and the wife of each individual. While the possibility of these murders being just a random chain of events is there, Jaqk believed it to be deeper than that. Mainly due to his belief in there is a reason for everything; even if there are those moments when a person has a sudden outburst, and seeks a thrill by committing crimes such as murder. At this time of the evening, it would be rude to intrude on the family members. Further investigation, on his own behalf, would have to wait until the morning.

"..." -- the awkward silence on the floor below had to broken, the innkeeper nodded and brought himself back to his eccentric attitude. "Oh~ho~ho, he arrived about and hour or so ago~" -- his pitched tone and musical vibes remained, as he twirled around to the shelf behind him, where the wall was lined with keys to each of the rooms. There was a baby Den-Den Mushi that was linked to each individual room, for wake up calls, room service and other such miscellaneous needs. The Innkeeper pulled it down and twirled around, facing the new-face and placing the baby Den-Den down on the counter before both of them, the number 207 written on the side of it.

"Room two-oh-seven~ I have a friend here, for you~." -- he sang into the Den-Den, in which case caused the one located in Jaqk's room to ring. He pushed his chair back, stood and walked over to the nightstand and picked up the receiver, the message being relayed and then allowing Jaqk to respond. "Oh?" -- his tone obviously questionable, as he didn't really form friendships with anyone, but he quickly assumed that he was implying another Marine had arrived. "Go on ahead, send him up." -- Jaqk simply replied, he remembered his superior officer mentioning that they might send another officer.

He placed the receiver back onto the Den-Den, and returned to the chair and the table. Jaqk assumed the Marine would let himself into the room, and also assumed that the Marine had a room of his own. But that wasn't all that important, at the moment. If this was going to be a duo-investigation, getting the officer up-to-date on the investigation would be the best priority; unless, on the other hand, he had copies of the information that Jaqk, himself, already has.

Having very little to say that wouldn't come across as rude, Fenix simply nodded in the direction of the man before him attempting to signal that he fully understood what was going on. It wasn't until the owner shouted again that the young marine understood that he was getting through to the individual who was standing just inches away from him. "I knew those books I'd been reading on communication were finally starting to pay off." Fenix thought triumphantly as he was told to make his way towards the room.

The voice of the owner seemed a bit too happy about having a chance to interact with Fenix. The young Ensign wanted to believe that it was partily due to his great charismatic attitude. As he took steps away from the front desk he felt a bit more happy about himself. While he had a chance to take in the scenary around him, the silver haired youth was having a hard time really 'getting' it.

For some reason he couldn't quite understand why the marines would set up such a place to act as their headquarters for this island. True, he didn't quite know the layout of the island itself, but this didn't seem to be a very good place. While walking through the hallways, Fenix couldn't help but feel as if everything was shrinking around him with the position he'd been placed into. A lack of information, a lack of direction, and even a lack of understanding as to what the entire ordeal that he was being thrown into was.

Reaching the door of room which he had been directed towards, Fenix stood there slowly making sure he was in order. Everything was where it should have been, and he'd made sure that all of his rank insignia and such were accurately attached onto his clothing. Placing a bawled fist against the door and having it linger there for but a few seconds, the young Ensign pondered if knocking on the door would have been the best opition. Fenix been informed that he was expected, so it was somewhat weird for him to knock to confirm he was there all of a sudden.

Taking no more time, Fenix simply opened his fist and pushed the door open slightly. His lowered tone was echoed throughout the doorway which he was standing in and crept into the room with realtive ease. "I'm entering the room now." Fenix finished as he pushed open the door to make his way into the room which his ally was meant to be stationed in. Upon entering it was made obvious to Fenix that perhaps he had been exchanged into a group that he wasn't quite informed about.

"Hm?" -- it wouldn't had taken long for the newcomer to make it from the base floor to the second floor, which is why Jaqk decided to not lose himself in his thoughts on the investigation, and instead waited for the officer to arrive. Though to his surprise, once the officer had indeed arrived, it seemed that he would be under the order of a superior officer. Out of mere respect, Jaqk once again stood from his chair as the Marine officer stepped through the doorway. He removed his cap, holding it over his chest as he allowed himself to give a slight bow.

"I didn't expect a commissioned officer. My apologies, sir." -- he said in the mid-bow before he raised himself upright, placing his Marine issued cap down on the table that was filled with papers, with the miscellaneous information of the investigation. "Master Chief Petty Officer, Usuaroku Jaqk." -- he allowed himself to give a proper introduction to his superior. Even though Ensign was the lowest rank of the Commissioned Officers, he would allow the officer to take command of the situation, if he so chose to.

"If you're not up-to-date on the situation, sir, I can do so." -- he considered the sentiment, before adding, "Unless, you would prefer to wait until the morning. As it's already late, and I can imagine the voyage would leave you a bit lagged." -- he was going on assumption, and taking into consideration that his voyage left him a bit lagged, though he wanted to continue to dig deeper into the information that he had, even if he has already read everything there was to read, multiple times. He still didn't want to believe these chain of murders were just random acts of criminal activity. The fact that he was lagged could indeed be hindering his ability, but the masked marine wanted to dig deeper.

Though, with that thought in mind, a bit of sleep wouldn't do any harm. By the time the sun had risen, he would more-or-less be at one-hundred percent. Jaqk had a tendency to strain himself in his work, but ten out of ten times, Jaqk usually succeeds. His superiors always felt that he lacked in the ability of combat, which is why they often believed that giving him one of the up-most highest ranks of the non-commissioned Marines showed that they believed in his abilities to get jobs done; jobs that required more than the usual brute-force that is often seen among the Marines; pursing, capturing pirates. There are many forms of Justice, but Jaqk is happy with the rank he was promoted to, and will continue to do his job.

Wielding a confused thought within the midst of his mind, Fenix couldn't quite understand why this guy had such a... unique style about him. It impossible for the him to take the entre situation as serious as he had while he was on the ship. The entire setting which Fenix had walked into seemed more along the lines of a joke. Slowly reciting it in his mind, the idea seemed more and more reserved for a short served moment at a pub.

"A young marine walks into an inn and is met by the image of a musical note. An eceentric note with a high accent about it. While making his way up the stairs, the young marine is met by a brillant colored helmet, reserved for a Harlequinn."

Standing as if frozen in stone, the silver haired marine was confused as to why he was sent in to assist someone who wasn't even commissioned... He had assumed that the entire ordeal would be handled by someone with a bit more trust. Unfortunately, Fenix himself was in no position to argue considering all of the missions he'd been given as of late were fairly lacking in any immediate attention. If he didn't know any better, the youth would have assumed these were just random events that weren't worth the marines time.

"I would like to be debriefed on the events properly... Officer Jaquell." Fenix felt somewhat bad noticing that he didn't quite know how to pronounce the marine's name. He tried to fight back the lingering yawn that was in the back of his head long enough to get the information about the mission itself. Besides, if there was any chance that something 'mythical' was involved, Fenix wasn't going to pass this up for a moment.

There wasn't many hours left to burn, and thus Jaqk didn't have the motivation to correct the way the Marine pronounced his name, even though it was pronounced "Jack". "Can do." -- he simply responded to the commanding officer as he turned slightly toward the table, picking up one of the files; despite having reading-up on any information he was given, and possibly more-or-less knowing them word-for-word, he decided it would be better to read straight from the summarized dossier. It would make the evening come to it's end, that much closer. At the very least, allow Jaqk to return to losing himself in the dossiers.

Over the course of five or so minutes, Jaqk had read the entire summary word-for-word, hopefully bringing the Officer up-to-date. "There isn't much to it, sir. It just appears to be a random chain of murders." -- he didn't let off that he felt that there was more to the story, not just yet anyway. He wanted to get more detail by looking into each of the victims lives, first. Even though he empathized on the word 'appears', he didn't feel as though the Officer would take note of that and question it. It would cause this process to be dragged out, that much longer.

What?"

A harsh tone came from Fenix's voice as he tried to wrap his mind around what was just told to him. If these events were random... why was Division M&M contacted. Was there a chance that he wasn't being filled in on everything. If all Jacquell knew was that these events were random, wouldn't it have been better if someone else had taken over?

In a flash of brillance, Fenix's eyes widen and his thoughts gained a more sharpen insight into things. "Unless the marines believe that the murders are related based on the unknown." Maybe it would have been better to press the issue a bit further. Unfortunately, the filter between his mind and mouth was a thin one indeed. The moment he finalized his thoughts the young marine quickly let them slip from his mouth.

"Looks like there's a mystery afoot." The silver haired youth spoke in an amazingly serious mannerism, despite the topic being discussed. Unfortunately, he was quick to notice that what he'd said seemed childish and clique' and quickly tried to change the subject manner in hopes that his ally wouldn't have dwelled on it too much.

"Any plans or ideas?" Fenix asked looking towards the man he'd dubbed as Jaquell. There wasn't much to go on, and any insight and preplanning would have been great for the the two of them to go off of. It would have made this entire ordeal that much easier to deal with, and made things simply flow a bit better.

"Hm.." -- he placed the assortment of papers back down onto the table, looking down at the file for a moment, pondering the Officer's question. It was only for a slight instant, as he believed it would be easier to be straight-forward with the commanding officer, instead of playing around. He turned his attention back to Ensign Fenix, and he took a hold of his hands with one-another behind his back and stood at attention.

"Interview the wives of the men. It appears to be only thing that each of them had in common with the other. But," -- his head turned sightly, looking out the window behind him before turning his attention back to his commanding officer, he nodded his head back toward the window. "It's late. Intruding on them now would be rude. It'll have to wait until morning." -- he pointed out the obvious to the officer, but had felt it needed to be said. Though, with him being assigned to this assignment and outranking Jaqk, himself, he would have to follow any orders.

With his attention back at Ensign Fenix, Jaqk didn't notice there was a bit of movement outside the window; it wasn't close-by, it was on the roof of a different building. He missed it by a second, when he had returned his attention to the commanding officer.

Feeling as though something about Jacquells take on things seemed slightly odd, Fenix slowly began to rub against his chin in confusion. The idea of letting the people involved sleep while the attacks were still fresh on their mind was... odd. Wouldn't it had been better for the two marines to question the people before anything was forgotten? Unfortunately, Fenix wasn't exactly good at reading people or understanding them anyways. So perhaps it would have worked better if he listened to the orders of his ally.

Taking a moment to think to himself before responding, the young silver haired marine slowly spoke. "Very well. I suppose we'll get back to this tomorrow then?" Fenix lifted his voice towards the other odd looking marine. It was unknown if he had the right to simply ignore or disagree with his supporting officer, but whatever the case he'd simply wait to see what the other guy felt was truly best.

In the mean time, he'd have to go down stairs anyways once he got the response so he could see if he even had a room reserved here. He was an expected addition to the mission, but the thought of having to spend his time in this building was... odd. Somewhat like how he felt while sleeping in the wilderness back at home alongside his father.

There wasn't much left for the Marines to discuss among one another, and it seemed that the officer before him was waiting on some form of indirect permission to be dismissed. Taking a moment to just observe the Marine, Jaqk felt a bit uncertain about him. There was something about him, that he just couldn't quite place his finger on. But disregarding the thought, for now, Jaqk would proceed on with a response to, the apparent, commanding officer. Taking attention, to a degree, with a salute at the ready.

"Indeed. Bright and early; probably best for you and I to meet up in the lobby, downstairs." -- he responded to the officer, as he readied salute was given and a slight bow that followed suit. As he rose from his half-bow, the Petty Officer allowed for a casual poster to take over, as he would speak once more. "Until then, sir?" -- while the tone sounded similar to that of a question, it was more-or-less Jaqk's way of giving the officer his farewell, and throwing that indirect 'order' to dismiss the Ensign. It was a bit of an awkward situation, but it would had gone on longer if Jaqk hadn't of said something.

And under the assumption that Fenix would soon there after be exiting the room, Jaqk would find himself organizing the papers and files and the stuff, and eventually take a moment of his time to position himself on the bed, propping his back up against the headboard. The Marine-issued hat removed from the cranium, twirling it on his finger as he pondered the murders. Hopefully, tomorrow morning, the interviews would go well. Hitting a dead-end would just make the matter at hand worse. With no leads; not in the slightest of hints, this was going to be a long, long week.

Looking to his fellow marine with confuse and what felt like a curning pain in his stomach, Fenix simply shrugged as he tried to understand how the people of this division operated. Sleeping when there was work to be done was for the animals. It felt more like Jacquell was being lazy rather than taking a break to relax for a short period of time. Then again, Fenix himself couldn't deny that he hadn't really had all the time to rest and recover that he would have preferred what with all the traveling he'd done for the day.

Feeling that his own tiring body was slowly shutting down, Fenix quickly threw up a salute to his fellow marine before replying. "I suppose you're correct then. We will meet again in the morning and look into this discussion and matter further." The silver haired youth quickly responded before turning around and opening the door before wandering off to his own room in hopes of dsicovering something else that would assist him in his endeavors for gaining any new information.

It wasn't until Fenix had reached his own door that he decided that perhaps taking on a mission such as this wasn't a good idea. He hadn't been told before, but the idea of having to talk to people rather than go around finding any signs of mythical creatures made him nervous. Animals were easy to understand, get, and manipulate. But the very thought of having to talk to another person made a huge lump develope in his throat. Jacquell seemed to be relying on him for assistance a bit more than he'd originally expected anyways.

"Hopefully we find something..." Fenix spoke to himself as he pushed the door open and fell into his bed that had been reserved. Closing his eyes for a moment and letting out a heavy sigh, the young man quickly tried to remember what he'd hoped for in coming here and drew a blank.

[OOC: Yak said he changed he mind, but didn't tell me sooner. Sorry for the wait, yo.]

The night had finally come to an end. Even though Jaqk did work until the early morning on most occasions, he found himself feeling as though he needed full-nights rest, to make sure he was ready for the longer-days to come. With that thought aside, Jaqk had turned off any lights in the room and made his way to the bed; removing his cap and other unnecessary garments, save for the mask that he has become quite fond of. Like a young child, and a blanket or stuffed animal; Jaqk too, had trouble ridding of it. Nonetheless, the Marine soon there after drifted off to sleep. The morning soon came, with the Den Den Alarm going off.

"Huh.." -- he lied on his back, both of his hands underneath his head as he had stared up at the ceiling. Jaqk had been up, at least an hour before the alarm was set to go off. It was the early morning; he wasn't certain how the other Marine's sleeping-management went. For all Jaqk knew, he didn't sleep at all and waited down stairs, where they agreed to meet once the sun broke through the thick darkness of Karaoke Island. He had already showered, and aside from his Marine cap and blazer, he was ready to start the day.

Sliding, his legs being thrown off the bed as he sat up, he grabbed the cap from the nightstand and place it upon his head. He shrugged, and moved his shoulders in a wave-motion, working out the kinks of the morning wake. He stood, rubbing the back of his neck as he headed toward the door, where his blazer hung on a coat-rack. Taking a hold of it, Jaqk slid it on, one arm at a time. Taking his index and thumb, he turned his neck to the left, followed by turning it to the right; he was ready to head to the first floor of the inn; however, he wasn't so sure if he was ready to encounter the innkeeper, again. He was a bit.. odd, to say the least.

Out the door and down the stairs, Jaqk found himself on the first floor.

The night was not well for Fenix. He'd dreamt of the same thing he'd been dreaming of since he'd made division M&M. Every night he'd meet with the fated image that he'd been searching for the entire time. They'd talk, they'd flirt and they'd fall back in love with one another. In a matter of hours, hed live his entire life alongside her. And then, every night, he'd wake up to the reality of the situation around him. This was becoming stressful for Fenix, and making it difficult for him to get a good nights sleep.

He was in a small room filled with a bright musical notes plastered across the wall. The ceiling had what looked like some sort of 'dream catcher' fasten to it. Everything was far too bright, and far too 'loud' for someone to wake up to. "Uhh... " The young marine groanded as he sat up attempting to regain his composure after yet another night of the same dream. His hair was a mess, his mind was all muddled, and he was awoken in the room that wasn't helping matters.

Rolling his eyes and rubbing them at the same time, Fenix was trying to remember exactly what he was meant to do today. "Oh yeah. That mission." He spoke as he stood to his feet looking at his clothes across the ground. The time was difficult to tell considering how long he'd been sleep. Unfortunately it didn't really matter too much considering his position. The silver haired marine quickly dressed and ignored washing himself afterwards.

With his clothes all over the place with wrinkles and uneven edges, Fenix made his way down the stairs trying to mat them out as quickly as possible. He made his way to the first floor meeting his fellow marine Jaquell. "Hey." Fenix spoke with a lazy look about his face plastered on his face. He offered no salute, yet in his place was a single heavy yawn.
What?

Damn Son

This reminds me of when King Arthur, Donkey Kong, and a group of otter-llama hybrids held an intervention to tell me I needed to stop taking LSD.

They were so supportive at the time, but since quitting I haven't seen them even once.

There wasn't much waiting, as the Ensign had made his way down not too long after Jaqk, himself, had arrived. The innkeeper was nowhere insight, which would give the two Marines a moment to speak amongst one-another, before the eccentric man returned; it wasn't that Jaqk had a problem with the innkeeper, it was that Jaqk believed his assumption that he would start talking to both he and Ensign Fenix. It's assumed the innkeeper knew they were here on official business, but Jaqk believed that not even such a serious matter would have the innkeeper think twice about serenading both Marines.

With Fenix here, Jaqk took note of his lack of formality in his attire and overall appearance; he seemed lazed, and dazed. Jaqk is under the complete assumption that there is more than meets the eye, with this Ensign; while he may be the lowest rank of commissioned officers, he still held superiority over Jaqk. He would hope that his assumption was as accurate as possible; as if it weren't the case, then Jaqk, while wouldn't make it blatant, would be quite irritated that the likes of such had the opportunity to be commissioned, while, no matter how narcissistic it may sound, someone of Jaqk's own attributes and qualities is still without a proper promotion. Albeit redundant, the irritation wouldn't last long; Jaqk enjoys his duty as a Marine.

"Good morning, sir." -- while no salute was offered, Jaqk allowed a slight bow out of respect to his superior officer. Once he rose back upright, he reached into his Marine coat and retrieved a folded piece of paper, and offered it to Fenix. "Names and addresses of the widows." -- he informed the superior officer, "I'm ready to head out, on your command, sir." -- formal and polite, was the tone he gave.
