Finn was lost for breath by the time he had reached the ship again. Little to his surprise, the first mate Charles was already waiting for him. Once the captain had reached the ship, he hunched over, putting his hands on his knees, and began to pant wildly. Lifting his head up, he could tell that Charles was looking for an explanation, but he was too out of breath to speak. “One sec” the egotistical teen managed to blurt out through his panting

After taking another few large breaths, the captain was finally able to speak once more. “Forget stealing a ship big guy. That man over there just gave me a flyer for some sort of contest where we can win a ship. That way we can try and stay a bit under the marine’s radar until we start pulling of some serious heists.” He said with a devious smirk on his face. Remembering that the contest was meant for marksman, he began to think about whether anyone in the crew was a marksman. Then it hit him. That kid Dewey was but sadly, he was nowhere in sight.

As Finn searched, Charles began to explain to him that a fight was just about to break out. “Great, I just get good news and now I hear that there is a fight.” Finn spouted, responding to Charles. Following Charles closely, the egotistical teenager sprinted into a lone ally between two buildings. As he turned the corner, he saw Trevor and Dewey facing two individuals; Dewey already having a knife to one of their necks. Finn couldn’t believe that the kid was so cocky and ruthless. Sort of reminded him of himself at that age. But more importantly, the captain noticed that both the men wore patched on their shirts. The mark on the patches matched the mark on the top of the flyer he had received. “I wanna see where this goes” Finn whispered, deciding not to intervene.

Normally ever ready to speak his peace, and then some, for now Trevor remained surprisingly silent; all for the sake of surprising and subduing their pursuers, he promised himself. From a pocket of his jacket he procured a small glass vial filled with some sort of nasty green liquid, of which likely only he knew the roots (after all, who was he to share such a thing?). 'Twas only after Dewey had drawn that dagger that Trevor had drawn his own little poison; he'd honestly been expecting those boomerangs, but no matter. If he was to be involved in this, then so be it.

Within his still-free right hand was then procured a fair-sized cleaver from where it was sheathed at his side, the sheath an object of black itself amidst further blackness. 'Twas with no degree of finesse that he fought, but rather simple madness, beginning with the contents of the vial being flung at the man that Dewey was not approaching. Instinctively the man reached up to cover his face, and so was Trevor upon him as the muscles began to partially numb upon contact from the poison. Such was the pursuer's mistake; he did not live to make another.

And why? Because, true to its name, the large cleaver simply cleaved, even if it did seem to be no more than stationary flailing that comprised Trevor's combat. It worked well enough for him at such times he needed it, and in a fine mess, the newly deceased fell. So then was the gray iron cleaver returned to its sheath to be used another day. After being cleaned on a rag procured from another pocket, of course.

"Hrmph...pair of idiots, trying to come up on us. Right then, time to figure out why," Trevor grumbled. Thus was where it got fun; after all, he was a doctor through part of his overall skills. And so, from the little bag that held his tools for that particular trade, he pulled a syringe and another of those vials filled with the nasty green liquid, an evil smirk on his face. "Now then...how about some answers to why you were following us? Wouldn't want to find out what this can really do, would you?" he requested, directly facing the man that Dewey was holding down.

The fight was over to quick for Charles taste, at least Charles got to see how his crew mates fight. "Now they want to know why they were after them? Crap" Charles thought. Charles did not want the captured man to tell his crew mates about him and what he said to em. So Charles traveled at top speed in the short distance to make sure he did not.

The man the boy was holding down was never able to speak a word, due to Charles unsheathed sword penetrating his spine. "Weaklings..." was all Charles could mutter out, heavily breathing. It was a close one for Charles, who knows what could have happen to him if they found out they were after them cause of him.

Charles sheathed his bloody sword. "Save your questions..." Charles began to say regarding why he killed the man "...Capt has something important to say."

Dewey pulled his dagger away from the man’s neck as a sword quickly penetrated the same man’s spine. Standing up in a furious rage, Dewey shouted at Charles, “What the heck did you do that for!” he said, shoving Charles forcefully backwards. “He wasn’t yours to kill!” Dewey walked angrily away from the alley, keeping his back turned to the other three. Then suddenly Charles said something that kind of caught Dewey by surprise. “My captain? I think he made it pretty clear earlier that he is not my captain and I am not part of his crew.” With a large pout on his face and his arms folded across his chest, he stomped away from the others.

Frankly he didn’t care what Finn had to say. Also, Charles was now on Dewey’s “I hate you” list. Dewey didn’t want to stick around and listen to those two act all high and mighty and put him down again, although he felt he had shown his worth several times already. Either way, it would take something big to make Dewey stay and talk to them. “Come on Old Fart, I mean Trevor, let’s leave.

“I have something to say?” Finn questioned flabbergasted. He had decided not to intervene just so he could see how the two handled the situation. Not so Charles could drag the attention to him. In fact, the captain wasn’t even sure why his first mate had killed the man in the first place. Trevor was right, questions should’ve been asked. But it was too late to change any of the events that just occurred and the only thing left for them to do is somehow fix their mistakes. Yet as Finn gawked, not knowing what to say, he noticed that Trevor and Dewey were departing. That was a problem.

“Wait, both of you!” He commanded in a booming voice. He needed to make sure that Dewey would compete in the contest. And to do so, he needed to regain his allegiance. Walking up to the kid, Finn knelt down and put a hand on his shoulder. “Listen kid. I know I haven’t been the nicest guy but that’s how pirates are. By the way you’ve been talking; I know you want to be a pirate as well. You gotta get use to the fact that if you’re of no use, a pirate crew won’t need you and won’t want you. But that's no longer the case.”

Rising back to his feet, the captain looked around at the faces of his crew to make sure they knew he was addressing all of them. “We have a chance at getting another ship, but to do so, we need the little marksman over here to win a contest. I know putting all our trust in this kid is gonna be hard, but for once, I believe that he’s not completely useless. However, those guys you just recklessly killed seemed to be working for whoever is running the contest. I find it a bit odd that they were threatening civilian lives. For all I know, this contest could just be a trap. So let’s go around town and get some info about this contest and this “One armed Willy” fellow whose running it, and get that boat we desperately need.” Once again, Finn looked at each of their faces, hoping for any sign of approval.

Everything actually seemed to be going nicely for a time. It was strange, really. Then, inevitably, someone had to ruin it, which thus earned Charles a glare from more than just Dewey. "Seems like someone has something to hide, huh?" he grumbled. With a shrug, and honestly more a care for that brat than these two, he turned to walk away before 'Captain' Finn decided to try and give out another order.

The start of his little speech, however, was not so good, and managed to efficiently lose Trevor's attention in fairly little time. He stuck around for now, if nothing else, considering whether he might have to use the syringe that still rested within one hand. The second stage of his speech was, ultimately, no better for holding Trevor's attention, and thus all the man got out of it was that Finn wanted something, and there was this vague idea he was essentially talking about needing the pair that were about to walk off on him.

And something about a ship.

"Hah...so now you're basically saying you need us, huh?" he spoke, the 'us' referring to the fact that he was going along with the kid, for now at least. "Hope this new ship of yours doesn't turn out to be a piece of junk at least, but if it's debt to rack up, well...I'll do what I have to."

Dewey stopped in his tracks as he listened to what Finn had to say. “A contest huh?” he questioned while stroking his hairless chin. He peered over at his new companion Trevor who had already spoken to gauge his response. “Well, if Trevor is going, I guess I will too.” Dewey stated as he walked back over to Finn and Charles. It’s true that Dewey originally wanted to join the crew. It’s still true, even now. However, the more and more he learns about the crew, the more he wonders if this is really the right crew for him. Perhaps those feelings were just the product of Charles’ bullheaded dickery.

Well, we have 2 dead men here.” Dewey said to the others. “I noticed you looking at the badges sewed onto their shirts earlier.” He looked directly at Finn. “Odds are, those shirts are exactly what we are going to need to get into this contest. Well the badges at least.” Dewey walked curiously over to the two dead men who were lying in the alley. After several minutes of repositioning the corpses, tugging, and pulling, Dewey finally removed the shirts and handed them to Finn. “It would only make sense if we all entered. That way we have a better shot at winning the ship. If you didn’t notice, I’m like half those men’s size and there is no way these two shirts will fit me.” he said with a sigh. “You and Charles should probably take these two and we should head around town to see if we can scam a couple more shirts off the rest of the townsfolk.” Dewey let loose an evil grin and began cackling like some sort of mad scientist. Suddenly, his mood changed completely and his face returned to a dead pan stare. “Alright, let’s go maties.

Though Dewey and Trevor still seemed a bit uneasy around Finn, he was sure reluctant that they chose to stay. Without them, things would have been much more difficult. Just their brief conversation had already brought a little more light to the problem at hand. Like for instance, that they would need to get more of the badge woven shirts. Thinking about it, Finn realized that those men were probably acting so suspicious and thuggish because they were trying to narrow down the competition before the contest had actually occurred. Though it was a cruel and deceitful tactic, the captain realized that it was probably something that they themselves might want to partake in to make sure they win the ship.

“Well the ships description doesn’t sound half bad.” Finn replied to Trevor. “And anyway, we just need it to be able to get us to that treasure. Once we get our hands on some real money, then buying a ship to our standard will be the last of our worries.” He added. Kneeling over, the captain began the tedious process of peeling one of the men’s shirts off. “I take no pride in doing this.” Finn muttered as he finished pulling the shirt off of the man’s torso. Once it was off, the captain began to pull his own jacket and shirt off. Looking at his nice black jacket, he felt it was a shame to abandon it, even though he had ten others back in his duffel bag. Yet it was such a beautiful jacket. Sadly, he had to toss it aside and roll the man’s dusty shirt onto his body.

Slowly turning towards the exit of the damp alley, Sawyer waved his hand in a following motion to the entire crew. “Well let’s get going.” He said as he began to head to the center of the town. If he knew anything about cowboys, they liked to show off their skills. The center of town would be the easiest place to find them.

So the boy was essentially coming with him at this point, was he? Well, good enough, at least that meant he wouldn't be alone in forcing certain debts upon the Captain's shoulders; 'twas just a matter of what would rack up said debt. Of course, something would probably have to be done to make sure that the ship was won, fairly or not...and a little raven would be making sure of that when the time came, if it felt necessary.

The best part? 'Twould be a fact kept secret, so none would really know of the intentional interference from a zoan user.

"Hmph...well, good enough for now, then. I'll hold you to the ship not being 'half bad,' though, you can be certain of that," Trevor declared, contenting himself to wander off with Finn at least for now, his syringe now somewhat hidden within his hand and long, thin fingers. He might have put it away by now, but it was starting to seem that it could be rather useful toward their current purposes, whatever exactly they ended up being. Oddly indigo eyes, mostly hidden by a layer of black hair, stared back and forth along the street, keeping an eye out for those special shirts that they presumably needed. Now where, oh where, was one that would fit Dewey...that was the main issue at present...

"Hrm...those people look rather confident," he commented after a short time, giving a nod in the direction of a small group of people that were chattering along at the side of a building across the street, gesturing a few times toward the gun one of them had holstered at their hip.
