The largest city in Awestralia, one of the few places you couldn't find peach trees being harvested at every corner, was better know as 'The Big Pit'. Since it was mostly a fruit farming island, Awestralia wasn't very well visited by anyone other than merchants. Even this, the largest city, was paltry in comparison ones that dotted many larger islands, though it was largest only due to the size of the actual farming villages. Many of the buildings were painted in yellows and pinks, and the symbol of the peach seemed to cover everything. Lamp posts in the street ended with peach-shaped lights, and in fact as Lark crossed the street he had to rush to avoid getting run over by a carriage that looked like a peach on wheels. Lark was only familiar with a single place in which peaches were most often used as imagery, so this foreign interest in the things made some of the design almost humourously erotic. Of course, a quick read up on the island before he arrived explained exactly why the island held peaches in such high regards. It didn't save him from occasionally being taken back by a large peach in an unfortunate case, giving him reason to let out a small chuckle to himself and move on. There was, after all, an important reason for Lark to turn up here. His investigation through the Teriyaki States and Shadow Moses had finally ended here. There had been several shipments that used Shadow Moses as a bouncing point and ended up in Awestralia. If he could find out where the slavery ring was ending, he could provide details to allow Marine operatives to connect to the rest of the dots. He might even be fortunate enough to figure out who was at the very top. That was the plan for the time being at least. Lark had found little in the way of assistance after alerting the Marine HQ to his course of actions. Awestralia was seen as a dead end as far as work as a Marine went - if you were stuck on the dingy little fruit farming nation you could barely be worse off. So he had to land by himself and prepare to search for the receiver of those last slave deliveries. Lark stopped in the street as he turned a corner, someone in the distance catching his eye. |

Selya hated peaches, and he hated Awestralia. But of course, he had been forced to keep an eye on the dingy, peach-infested town by his superiors. Yet again, he'd 'overstepped his boundaries', they said. He could still remember the feeling of his fist shattering the jaw of the Lieutenant, but he didn't regret his actions in the slightest; had he tried to harm a child again, Selya would've punched him just as hard. Still, the smell of peaches was thick in the air, sweet enough to leave a bad aftertaste in the back of his throat. He had the pervasive urge to punch one of the many people passing by, and his hands almost twitched beneath the grey trenchcoat he wore. He almost didn't notice the man speaking to him, stuck in his own thoughts at first. Finally, after a moment, the fishman noticed a tug on his coat. He looked back, glancing at the one grasping the ends of the fabric. It was a man of about twenty, dressed in what Selya could only assume was a burlap sack. He grasped the sack, lifting him from the ground several inches, until he was staring into the shadows formed by the hood he'd had specially fitted for his coat. All that could be seen was a pair of almost comically large sunglasses, inside the hood. "What? I'm not going to buy you something, and I'm not going to give you money." The man's hands raised in a placating gesture, as he nearly babbled. "H-hey, we're cool! I was just gonna ask for some change, that's all. I got lucky, and some guy gave me 50 thou. But everyone thinks I stole it, so they won't take it. Could ya do me a favor? Just need you to gimme some smaller bills, so I can get out there." Selya dropped the man abruptly, forcing him to land on his ass, while the fishman drew what looked like a bright green boxing glove, holding several bills. He dropped them on the ground, turning away and walking a few paces, before stopping. He turned back around, taking a single step back towards the unfortunate man, stomping on the hand reaching for his bill. "My bill." The man nodded profusely, handing up a small scrap of paper, which the fishman grasped between two parts of the glove. Placing it in a pocket, he reached for his face, and plucked off his glasses. "Come on, man, my hand!" Selya glanced down, lifting the weight from his foot, and stepping backwards. His voice was a growl as much as an apology, while he placed the glasses on the ground. His hand slipped back into his pocket, pulling the bill and bringing it to his face. As he did, he could hear the man's hands scrabbling over the ground to grasp the bills, clutching them tightly in one fist. "Thanks, man. You guys are alright." "You mean marines?" To his surprise, Selya didn't detect even a hint of fear in the man's voice as he spoke; nothing but confusion tinged the man's tones. "Marines? Nah, I love them. Keep me safe. I'm talking fishmen, buddy. Why would I hate marines? I done nothing wrong." The world began to turn blue, as he glanced at the bill. He'd examined beli marks before, and he knew that there were multiple special dyes used in their production; he couldn't detect any of those dyes on this bill. Though it looked the same, it was only in color. He tossed the bill aside, and then spoke in a dull, cold tone that was all authority, "Counterfeiting, for a start. You didn't think you could pass off a fake bill on me, did you?" "Wai-wait, what? That bill was fake? No wonder that guy gave it to me. Hey, I'll tell you what he looked like, I'll do anything. You trust me, don't you? You know that bill's not mine!" "I'm afraid I don't trust you." The man glanced around, before leaping at the cloaked figure before him. His hand swiped at the inside of the hood, groping for something he could pull and distract him. Selya's hand held the fake beggar's arms back, making it impossible to reach his eyes as he sighed. "And now we have attacking a marine. This looks worse and worse, you know." From somewhere inside of his coat, a small, greenish colored barbed arm shot forth. There was a hole roughly the size of a large pencil within his cloak, as well as in the flesh of the man before him. The arm retreated back into the hole made in the cloak, leaving the human before him clutching his chest. "Y-you..." "I'm obligated by marine regulations to ask if you want me to escort you to a hospital. Around here, they'll probably just tell you to eat more peaches and send you off." He chuckled softly, and then grasped the man's sack once more. "You can keep the bills. Consider them a thanks for helping me make commission." Edited by Yaksha, Aug 21 2010, 01:28 PM.

Lark had very little to say while watching the short scene play out in front of him, however he was filled with a variety of thoughts and feeling. Even with the sickening disgust for the way the officer was acting, he also couldn't help but be a little intrigued by his discovery of counterfeited money. Lark's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of the bill itself and the colours and shapes all seemed pretty exact to the standards. Either there was some glaring error on the paper or the man had some sharper eyes. He also couldn't help but wonder where the third arm came into matters. A couple of other Marines walked onto the scene and from a distance they made a lot of assumptions. The covered-up man was holding a beggar who was wearing burlap and bleeding out from the chest. They had their hands on their weapons as they charged forward, immediately demanding answers. "What's going on here? Put down your weapon or-" One of them started, immediately freezing up as he recognized Selya from close up. "Oh great, you. What the hell have you done? Are you looking for a court martial?" He asked, knowing their special guest Marine pretty well. "Perhaps I can assist in this case a little?" Lark said, shoving himself almost directly between the two pairs. The Marines who had come in certainly didn't seem impressed. "Lark Reyes, Captain of the Ardent Wings." He added, flashing his badge and earning a quick pair of salutes. "You should get this man to a hospital but..." He started, reaching behind the beggar and drawing a flintlock from the small of his back. "Please, keep him under guard and question him." He finished, handing the gun over to one of the men as the other went to take the hanging man. The Marine pair looked back at Lark and Selya a couple of times as they walked off with the beggar. Lark raised his hand and gave a wave and a smile until they had turned a corner. He let out a sigh and ran a hand through his hair, looking Selya over. "Don't you think that was going a little far?" He asked, raising an eyebrow and then immediately putting his hands up to show it wasn't an accusation. "Don't worry about it, I'm not here to investigate what you just did. I have other things to worry about than your interpersonal issues." His face dropped into a somewhat friendly grin. "Lark Reyes, like I said. You are?" He asked, not extending his hand as might be expected, he instead kept his hands to himself. "I know this might be a hassle, but I'd like to see that bill you just received." He said, placing his hand out to receive it. "Though I'd also appreciate it if you could tell me how you noticed it was a fake so quickly." He added. "Seems to me you have good eyes." Lark mentioned, looking the other man directly in the hood-covered sunglasses as he said that. |

Selya glanced at the shorter marine before him, the silence almost crushing while he waited for Lark to finish speaking. His coat shifted slightly, but it wasn't easily clear that he had shrugged. A moment later, he nudged a shoe against the ground, where the bill had settled after he had dropped it in the chaos. His glasses back on his head, Selya was already beginning to feel better; he'd been chewed out for being too enthusiastic in taking care of a criminal, as if they wouldn't have done the same thing had he been the beggar; they wouldn't even have had to been able to tell it was fake, to toss him somewhere dark and depressing. "I can't really grab things the right way. If you want to look at it, you're free to. As to the bills..." He pulled back his hood, revealing a large, greenish-colored head. The large sunglasses hid sight of his face, but his lips moved as usual behind the shell, while he growled at Selya. "I don't have good eyes, I have the best ones. Too good, in fact. The colors are right, but the dyes are wrong. They used paint; we use things a lot more complex." He reached out one of his hands, placing it carefully on the marine's shoulder, as he knocked as much as pulled his sunglasses off. A pair of preternaturally large, almost fist-sized eyes glanced at Lark; each one held as many large banded parts, creating endless copies of Lark. "Why do you wear the colors? Go ahead. Maybe you just want the power to tell others what to do? Or perhaps you'd like to get promoted, and be a Chief Warden or a Grand Poobah or whatever they call marines that spend more time kissing ass than catching criminals." |

Lark leaned down and picked up the bill, dusting it off a bit and giving it a good look over. He had seen a ton of bills before, but there was really nothing that gave away it could be fake. The Marine even went as far as to hold it up to the light. He could see there was a little bit of difference in the fibers when viewed in such a way, but even his fine eyes barely caught anything to prove the possibility. He looked up to Selya as the fishman revealed his head followed by his eyes. Lark gave a shining smile in return and folded the bill neatly. "Incredible." He commented. "No, I daresay that your visual prowess is beyond what I could even consider exceptional. I can barely see a flaw in the colouration, I'd most certainly need a dozen samples to contrast it to during an investigation." He slipped the bill into one of Selya's pockets and then gave a shrug as his purpose was questions. He nodded once or twice and held his hand to his chin in thought, then looked up to speak to the man directly. "I wear the colours because they are a symbol of order." He told him, not letting his glare waver. "Far be it for me to turn down a promotion of course, but I'm not looking for power over those below me. I want the power of freedom." He explained, slipping out of Selya's grasp and walking a couple paces away before turning back. "It's unfair, don't you think? People doing good don't need to be restrained by internal struggles and laws. There are rules and laws that are for the survival of all peoples, and hierarchies and military customs don't enforce those laws properly." He gave a motion with a bit of flair. "I wear the colours as a symbol of my beliefs. What I want is the freedom to stop those doing evil." Lark gave a steady glance and then stopped, suddenly shifting into a far more pedestrian stance. "That's my spiel. Was it good? Did you like that? I don't often have time to explain everything so I try to hit the main points." He explained, walking back over to Selya. He stood next to the fishman and looked in the direction the Marines had left, crossing his arms in front of his chest and narrowing his eyes a bit. "The two men who showed up didn't seem to be fans of yours. This is a rather backwater island to get stuck on as well. Perhaps you did something about an ass-kissing officer recently?" He asked, looking over and up to Selya as he punctuated the sentence. |

Selya glanced at Lark, finally raising one of his fists and flipping up the hood to conceal his face once more. Nearby, a man stared at the cloak with an expression of rapt amazement. Selya turned on him, snarling as he reached out one of his green-shelled fists. Growling like an animal, watching the man's gaze flicker to his fist, he finally pressed it against his chest gently. "I'll do it a lot harder next time. Now let the marines talk." Turning back to the marine, his voice less of a snarl and more of an amused laugh, he waved a hand at Lark. The sarcasm was clear in his tone, but there was a tiny laugh hidden beneath it all. "Go ahead, keep talking. It's much more interesting hearing you patronize me than tell me about yourself; it's not like either of us is buying the other's bullshit." His hand went back into his pocket, and his body stiffened as his tone suddenly turned authoritarian and more serious; he sounded almost like he was speaking through clenched teeth, hissing more than talking. "If you were told that children were stealing from the stalls on and island, you'd probably go and investigate, wouldn't you? See why they were that poor and hungry? Not my lieutenant. He decided we needed to make an example of the kids. We were gonna catch as many as we could, throw a few in a cell. Then he saw that some of them were longarms. He insisted I kill them, so we could teach them that being different didn't put them outside the law. I think you can guess how that went down." |

Lark watched the small scene between Selya and the man with very little interest. Of course having a Fishman reveal himself in the middle of public would have some kind of reactions from passerbys, and those kinds of looks were never nice. When the other Marine looked back, so did Lark, barely showing any interest on his face in the exchange and following through regardless. "Bullshit?" Lark asked, shrugging a little. "We'll see, I suppose. I guess that means I need to work on my speech a little more." He added, pulling his shoulder back and watching again for a reaction. He didn't feel much like he was testing, but then again with the responses he was getting he didn't need much more evidence to form conclusions now. He corrected his jacket a little and then stood and paid rapt attention during Selya's little talk on his history. "I understand completely." Lark said pretty stably. "First thing I would do is teach those kids a lesson." He commented, drawing his hand like a gun. "It's bad to steal, you know!" He mockingly stated, wagging a finger. "Then I'd teach the lieutenant a lesson." He added, curling his hand into a fist. Realization appeared to dawn across his face, but it was all for show and that was painfully obvious. "That would get one in a lot of trouble, messing with a man like that." Lark said, putting his hands into his pocket. Lark took a long look down the street and let out a cleansing sigh. His pose changed to be a little more stiff and his legs straightened to raise his height just a bit. "This is fun, but there's more important things to do." Lark said, his tone shifted from the jovial acting of before and now sounding more like a Marine should. "There's something rotten on this island and I'm about to excise it. You're free to join, since you're already stuck here." He looked back to Selya and slipped on a pair of sunglasses of his own, blocking out the warm rays of Awestralia. "I introduced myself earlier, but I'll do it again. Lark Reyes of the Ardent Wings. You?" He asked. |

Selya shook his head, glancing down at the ground as the same sardonic laugh tempered his words. "The bullshit isn't the speech, it's pretending I'm actually interested in what you're saying. Just like you pretended to care about why I'm here." He glanced at the ground silently, seeming to think about the other marine's words from behind the impenitrable shroud. People passed by, some of them even glancing worriedly at him, but none of them stopped to chat. After a few moments, Selya rose his head, extracting both of his gnarled, fist-like hands from his coat, and extending them; both of them hung in the air before Lark, as he spoke. "Name's Selya. I don't have a division; most of them say I'm too gung-ho, or I don't follow orders. If I'm gonna be stuck here, I may as well make good of my time." He glanced backwards, as if he could see the man that had assaulted him and tried to spread false bills even after this long. "It's a town of peaches. Of course the place is as rotten as they come. Rotten right down to the pit-Hell, even the TREE that makes 'em is rotten!-, and we're supposed to take a nice big bite and grin, while the higher ups all shuffle around their papers and pretend they're DOING something. Well, Lark...I say we start looking for the roots. And we'll cut this tree down into kindling." He twitched one of his fists, as if inviting Lark to shake with him. "I'll find 'em...and you start asking the questions. People I talk to tend to end up unconscious or dead." Edited by Yaksha, Aug 25 2010, 10:06 AM.

Lark could only offer a small smile at the suggestion that he was only interested in Selya as some kind of joke. There was little he could do to get through to this Fishman, at least through words. Certainly from the explanation and the way he was treated Lark could assume a lot, but he could focus on that afterwards. "Very good way of putting it." Lark said, taking the chance to bump his fist in greeting against Selya's. "Don't worry about finding them though, I was just on my way there." Lark waved Selya to follow beside him and started a short journey through the streets of the town. Along the way, he began to explain the trail that he was on and what little he had been able to learn in the meantime. He began with the small formation of his squad originally to take disappearances the United Teriyaki States, and continued through his discovery of the police-assisted kidnapping spree that was supplying slaves. He continued to explain how clues left on the scene led him first to disguise himself on Shadow Moses Island and how that yielded results pointing him here. "Or here, to be exact." Lark said, stopping a good ways from where the town ended and the peach orchards began. After the town had faded into nothing but peach trees, buildings became fewer and fewer as the density of the orchards increased from mere gardens into farming concerns. A large building in the distance looks like a palace among farms, and it was where Lark was pointing. He walked to the wall that blocked either of them from seeing the trunks of the tree and placed his hand on it. "It'd be a shame to make any accusations without a little solid evidence, wouldn't it? Think you could give me a boost?" He asked, looking back to his tag-along fishman friend. |

Selya followed after Lark, letting the explanation of his arrival here drift through his mind; he had started off in the Teriyaki States, apparently looking for missing people. His head began to pound as he continued to listen about how the police of the island had been using their position to capture men, and send them off to be sold as slaves. He nearly slammed a fist into the closest wall, but he could tell the new guy wouldn't appreciate it. "Why do you care if he'd appreciate it? He's just going to take the credit and claim you lost control again. And who'd doubt him? He was almost ready to speak, to tell this marine that none of this concerned him here and now, but he pointed ahead before a word could leave his mouth. He followed Lark's gaze, and spotted a building; how could he not? It almost screamed of wealth and power, and its very existence was like a beacon. "You know, I'd assume a counterfeiting ring that hasn't been found by the marines yet WOULDN'T be in the most easily noticed landmark of the island. But, hey. What do I know?" He shrugged, doing his best to convey his scorn without getting more acerbic. Despite his initial opinion, he found himself liking the human that he had met. He was direct and seemed quite sure of himself, and on top of it all he hadn't made any attempt to see what lay beneath the coat; as long as he remained properly hidden behind his clothing, he could see the two of them working together just fine. For now. "If you insist on looking somewhere the marines have probably checked a dozen times, I'm happy to assist. But I just want you to know, I'm not here to take the fall for you. They start asking why the marines are snooping, and you're right about their involvement, you'll find that my spectacular eyes won't remember ever having seen you." |

Lark listened to Selya and made motions that he still needed a boost in order to get over the wall. Regardless, he couldn't help himself but hurry up, and bend down a bit in order to leap upwards to the top of the wall. He grasped the lip with his hands and pulled himself higher until he was straddling the high wall. "I'm lucky it's not barb-wired." He pointed out, looking to the landing site on the other side, where the peach trees began to stretch in every direction. "Three things." Lark explained, pulling himself into a better position to drop down to the soft grass. "First," He started, raising a single finger, "It's always easy to hide things in plain site. This is a legitimate peach orchard, who would expect to find a crime ring running out of a peach orchard." He began to pull his other leg over as he held up a second finger. "Second, I'm here for a slavery ring, but knowing these folks I'd bet dinner we'll find a connection to that bill you found." Lark continued to shift until he was slowly walking down the vertical wall while holding onto the top, talking quietly as he got into enemy territory. "Third," Lark continued, no longer able to show fingers at all, "If something does go wrong..." He started, dropping to the ground on the inside. "If something does go wrong, and we both survive anything they throw at us, and I'm wrong about things..." He couldn't be seen through the wall but he was obviously in thought. "Well then I'd have to naturally take full responsibility for my actions, your actions, and this entire ordeal. I'm a division leader, after all." Lark told him, looking carefully and catching sight of some things in the distance. "I do hope you can make it over the wall yourself." He added. |

Selya glanced at the wall, not speaking for several moments. Finally, in a tone of false revelation, he laughed. "That's rich, you know. Hiding things in plain sight just promises everyone will see it. Even if no one notices it, they'll see it well enough. I've got no intention of breaking in like you. You get in deep and need a hand, feel free to whistle, and I'll come on in. Otherwise, this is your case. Isn't it, 'Captain' Reyes?" Chuckling nastily, he turned away from the wall, beginning to walk the distance of the barricade; with any luck, he'd be able to find a back entrance to the place, and he could start his own search. The path the building made was covered by peach trees, planted just a few feet from the wall. Selya was no carpenter, but he thought that the roots would've costed a lot in repairs, when they started moving much further outward. That aside, he had a way in now, and he was damn well going to take it. Slamming one of his thick, barbed arms into the bark and wiggling it slightly, he muttered to himself. "Of course the fishman gets the shitty way of sneaking in. Bet I'll probably get shot at, too." Why are you DOING this? You know he's probably standing on the other side, waiting for you to fall in. Bet he'll turn you in for trespassing, and then walk in himself. Selya continued to berate himself each time he slammed a barbed hand into the tree, slightly higher than the last; his two rudimentary hands were wrapped around the bulk of the tree, helping him pull his way upward as he did it. |

Lark brushed himself off a little after the fall off the wall and leaned against the nearest tree. The staggered rows of peach trees made it a little difficult to see much aside from green and brown, but he was able to catch a some movement in the distance. "Sounds like a plan." Lark said back over the wall, looking back to see that the fishman certainly wasn't planning to follow. "Keep your ears open and call me if anything happens outside, alright?" He added, sneaking forward through the trees and quickly out of simple earshot. Lark came across a several kids who were climbing up ladders into the trees and picking peaches into large baskets. Each one would put their full baskets onto a cart and from the wheel tracks in that row it looked like it went directly into the center of the operation. The Marine quickly held his breath as a guard walked along the row, a rifle against his chest. Another man nearby had a rod he was smacking against his open palm every couple of seconds just as a reminder. Cords ran from each of the kids to the cart, holding them in place by collars. "Could this be any more stereotypical?" Lark asked himself, sneaking a little closer. "Hey. Kid." Lark said quickly, his back against a tree. "Don't stop picking, don't say anything. I'm here to help. Where are you from?" He asked. The young man froze in place, chills running up his spine as a voice from the other side of the tree spoke. He quickly rushed to keep picking peaches and he pursed his lips in concern. A quick glance showed that the guards weren't watching him for the moment. "Saint Reia, sir." He responded barely above a whisper. "I see. Listen kid, I'm going to work on getting you out of here. I just need a little bit of information on those guards first..." Lark began slowly, peeking just barely around the edge of the tree to the patrolling men. Meanwhile, back at the wall where Selya was no doubt enjoying his climb, there was a noise that started to build further down the road, the way they had both come. It was a low rumbling like a cart rumbling along the dirt road. Somehow sensing their master nearby, dogs without the compound started to bark at random. No doubt there would be a welcoming committee on their way to the front gates as well. Very bad timing for both of the Marines involved, really. |

Selya could hear an approaching vehicle, though the faint vibrations through the tree would've made it just as hard to notice. Dogs began to bark a moment later, and the fishman would've facepalmed if he wasn't busy clinging to the trees; of COURSE things couldn't be simple and straightforward for once. Fate, or God, or whoever decided how things should be, couldn't let him just walk through a door and get something go off without a hitch. Luckily, he'd made a fair bit of progress with the tree before the cart had come along. He was nearly level with the lowest branch that reached across the wall, almost close enough to reach out and touch it. With a bitter laugh, almost daring God to punish him for it, he began to inch upward, finally crouching on the branch. Almost instantly, the creaking of the branch told him that God had taken his offer. He began to run as much as creep forward, only barely crossing the wall before the branch, having grown thinner, snapped. Gravity, that cruel mistress, began to envelop Selya in her arms. Dragged towards the ground with shocking speed, his head cracking against the stone wall hard enough to bring a jolt of pain through his neck and back. He hit the ground, staring at the sky for several moments through his coat, before grunting. "Whatever I did to deserve this body and life, I'm sorry. But I swear, karma or not, I'm going for the throat if I ever meet God." He made his way to his feet, brushing off his clothing, before glancing around him. Finally glancing around him, only to see several guards glaring at him, he sighed again. His hands came up, and he grumbled as much as spoke. "I guess you guys don't take kindly to peach thieves." |

"Thanks." Lark said to the young boy, taking a deep breath and walking out from behind the tree. One of the guards took notice of him and turned around, raising the beat-stick he kept on him for the slaves. He was able to question the man when the Marine interjected suddenly. "Oh! I'm so sorry, I was just wandering nearby and somehow ended up in your orchard, can you give me directions?" He asked, looking around as the guard's eyes twitched and his fellow looked over. "Of course, I need to see your boss about his slave shipments." Lark added. That triggered the man to swing his weapon up as the fellow with the rifle pulled it up to his shoulder. Lark's foot flew upwards and caught the man in the chin, the steel of his shoes easily countering the bone of the jaw. It wasn't quite enough to take a person down completely, so Lark spun and delivered a second strike to the side of the guard's head and sent him to the ground. The captives all watched in shock, the boy who had been speaking to the Marine in particular moving closer up the tree to hide as best he could. The second guard fired off a round from his rifle that went long and nicked a tree instead. The far more accurate Penguin round from Lark's K-type hit the man in the forehead and sent him to the ground with his rifle dropping on top of him. The guards who were surrounding Selya had apparently been on patrol nearby when the sound of the huge fishman dropping to the ground had attracted their attention. Two of them were armed with rifles while the other three had rods on them. "Nice and slow. Keep those... Hands... Up." One of them told him. "Keep the arms up, freak. What the hell do you think you're doing here? This is private property." A second commented, waving his weapon menacingly - or at least that's how he thought it looked. He probably would have said more if there wasn't a sudden sound of gunfire from nearby, the sharp crack of a rifle followed by a loud 'bang' from a heavy caliber weapon. "Go check that out! He must not be alone!" He ordered, three of the men leaving - only himself and one of the riflemen remaining now. "Listen here kids, I've here to free the lot of you. I've been on the trail of the people who brought most of you here." Lark said, back at the scene of the earlier battle. He patted down the man with the rod and pulled a keyring off of him, unlocking the collar cords from the cart. "I want you all to hide and keep away from the guards. Find any others and try to free them." He added, tossing the keyring to one of the kids. "Wait for the Marines to show up before talking to anyone." He finished, guards showing up just as the kids scattered. Lark jumped a little as a bullet shot the nearby wheel of the cart. Lark raised both of his pistols and unleashed a couple of shots. The first one, one of his penguin rounds, knocked the legs out from under one of the men with a rod. The second slammed directly through one of the trees and left a neat hole in it. As it started to collapse in on itself and fell towards the rifleman. "Shrike? Shit." Lark said, looking at the pistol and catching a glance at the selection of highly lethal rounds he had left in it. He could only hop back as the second man approached, swinging his rod like a bat. |
