I really think a chess fruit could work, so try to hear me out.

First of all, An explanation of the exact power I'm proposing:

The user can, upon contact, make anyone move like a chess piece by saying which piece. This only applies within an area that is 2xFortune meters on all sides around the user.

Next, what I think each piece would do (each of these would be a technique):

Pawn: All attacks are angled diagonally against the Pawn's will. Meaning they can't attack straight forward.

Rook: The user gets super speed, and large amounts of inertia making them hard to stop even when they want to. The user can only move in straight lines.

Bishop: Even when a Bishop affected character tries to move forward, they stumble to the left or right, always making diagonal movement.

Knight: No idea, I'll come up with one later.

King: The King is slow as molasses, but his strength is many times it's regular amount, allowing for massive damage. Very little use unless you have friends to help you. Only Usable on Males.

Queen: No idea, I'll come up with one later.

There is no board. The only effects are those listed. All directions (Forward, Diagonal, etc.) are relative to the way the target is facing.

Hmm, maybe it could 'capture' other foes, which would turn them into a chess piece. This would freeze them into a chess piece (Made of stone?) with their face on it. So it would be useful for bounty hunters. I'm not sure whether armor would affect this ability.

Henchmen or low level characters would be captured as a pawn.

Brainy or righteous characters would be captured as a Bishop.(Robin or Chopper)

Fast, artistic or warrior characters would be captured as a knight.(Zoro or Brook)

Stalwart large or merchant/artisan characters would be captured as a rook.(Franky)

A high ranking marine or pirate captain would be captured as a king or queen piece depending on gender.

En passant would be useful for a pawn.

It would also be interesting to have the actual user also have some physical manifestation of the chess piece like a chess piece coming out of their head or maybe a chess piece with their face and arms/legs coming out of it.

This would be a paramecia?
Assuming it's approved
Official OPRP collectable trading card.

Devil Fruit Name: Kifu Kifu no Mi (Chess Chess)
Devil Fruit Type: Paramecia
Devil Fruit Ability: The Kifu Kifu no Mi is a devil fruit enables the user to become a Chess man. The Kifu Kifu no Mi is capable of altering an enemies sense of direction with a single beam.

Scaling: Beam travels in feet equal to the user's Fortune.

Pawn
Supportive
Ranged
This technique causes for an enemies sense of direction to become reversed in sense of left from right. All actions that they believe effect their left side will direct and control the right side of their body.

All around a crappy idea for a fruit and a horrible concept but meh.

Sounds overpowered if you ask me. To some degree you'd be declaring what other characters were doing if they were caught in the technique, so to me it's like a thinly veiled version of powerplaying :b

Telling them what to do? Not really seeing as how reversing or limiting their actions isn't the same as stopping them or controlling them. It's like an increased power of the Rhythm Fruit in a sense.

Also all if not most Devil Fruit have a veil of power gaming to them most people wouldn't take them unless they wanted power for a character.

Also it would have a system that would be based on my Fortune V Their Fortune to defend against it, so it's not much honestly.
