I know that we have "Total Members: 16,777,215" But like, it feels to me like the activity has been dropping. The only people I see posting are like, the same old crowd. I think we should try to get some new members and like... I don't really know. I've been on this site for like, half a year, and it's just sad to me to think that an rp site I've grown to love isn't as active as it used to be. (This might just be me cuz I'm gone all day, and don't see the other active people.) |

Actually, it depends which point of the past you're referring to. If you're referring to the activity of the site at Summer Break before school started again, of course we're less active now. But compared to earlier after school starter, we're pretty active. There's probably more than 30 people active at least. That's more than 9! Of course, more members are always good, so maybe you should advertise? |

The problem's easy to identify. You're not actually interested in new blood or characters outside of the OOC areas. Mod participation in the Library of Ohara section is particularly lax. And before any of you use the classic "I have a life defence" - note that this is just in response to the topic. If you want activity, then the speed at which you give members a chance to RP is pitiful. Just look around in the IC boards - mods aren't keeping on top of them with the board as lethargic as it is. Clearly the last thing they want is more activity to be bogged down with. I mean, the slogan I hear used most around this place is "We're not here to RP, we're here to have fun." which is a fine sentiment, except for the fact this is supposedly an RP forum. The idea was supposed to be having fun through rp'ing, but the general consensus seems to be that RP'ing is actually getting in the way. Maybe you could change the theme from RP'ing to just a general board with a snazzy little RP section. Edited by Strider Xan, Dec 9 2009, 11:30 AM.

Your criticism is rather valid, if not for the fact that it appears you have grossly misunderstood our system.
From this, I assume you've missed out on the fact that the default SL thread is without a Narrator, which shared responsibilites. This precisely because the 'lives' you mentioned, plain laziness or general disdain of the general member can influence the speed. No matter what the circumstances, slowing down the pace of a topic because people are not confident the can moderate NPC's in a fair manner - most of which are simple goons, is pretty damn stupid. They're not supposed to 'be on top' of it. Narrators are invited or requested, when the need is particular, or to a member not very experienced in the RP-area who would want some guidance. There's no need to add another rather unnecessary person to wait on in the topic. (Also, Narrators aren't really staff) As for your comments on the speed in the Library of Ohara, perfectly valid. It all comes down to personal taste. I'm of the mind that the current pace, at which most characters are adressed within 24 hours, is perfectly acceptable. Now that my rant's over with, back on topic: Inactivity and Why. Firstly and mostly, how we've built the forum is a stabile one, long-term one. However, it has a heavy slope in the start. Rather than most other RP sites, where you can jump in on the action of either a solo mission or a nice thread instantly, it can take quite some time to find a crew. Also, in most crews, at least one person goes inactive; That's just how it is on forums, not everyone stays. Here, though, it can immensively hold up a thread until it becomes clear that the person isn't coming back. Therefore, before you can grow truly active as most of the veterans on the site are, you need a good crew who is also active; Most crews don't even survive their first topic, at least not in their original form. That's the largest issue on inactivity. There's no shortage of new members, as the activity in joining and character registration surely tells, but if one quit, his or her crewmates are likely not patient or enthusiastic enough to keep going. So, this coming from a guy who has two characters who don't do anything... In any case, considering we only have about 300 members, and that there are probably something like 20-30 active, that's not a bad number. And yeah, activity in SLs has nothing to do with the mods, so even if half the Narrators don't do their jobs, that's not the main thing affecting activity. |

What the fuck? Anyways, I'm just going to say that inactivity of others isn't the problem. It's your inactivity. What the hell could you possibly care if nobody is posting in North, East, and South Blue? Or the Grand Line? Stick to your own SLs, and worry about yourself for now. There are around thirty actives, so it's not like the board's dying anytime soon. Seriously Vince, never spout stupidity. |

Heavenly Descendant is a new member, and I'm fairly active considering I'm only in one topic and I must wait my turn to post which could take anyway from a day or two, which is fine with me, since fast paced RP's tend to die more quickly. I'd be more than happy to spread the word about the board to some of my other RP'ing friends--who aren't already on the board--if activity is a concern. Though as stated before: New members doesn't necessarily mean more activity. |

I wasn't clear with my look into the IC section: Mods are invited so their participation as NPCs is a separate issue. What I was referring to is the fact it's an achievement for the site if they get one post in each play in any 24 hour session, yet there are a variety of topics awaiting review, islands without a full or even partial description to them and of course the Ohara pile up which you've already addressed. @Thingy: I can agree that it's highly hypocritical of Kuma to spark up a complaint about activity but I think this query was due. It's difficult enough to get 2 look-ins on your profile. If you happen to make an error or put up a dodgy move, you end up waiting even longer. Esuke shot the board in the foot when he mentioned only seeing new faces in the chat box. I'm not trying to be mean, but if wasn't the pace you expected but it is the pace which is put in. |

As much as I adore the flaming for caring... Just in my defense for the 2 characters being basically inactive, one is in an sl where I post like, once a week if I'm lucky. The other one I just don't have time for, which is why I'm just basically thinking about getting him deleted *might as well*. And in terms of me not putting the solution. I said maybe we should advertise, in just a very non direct way. I'm currently looking for sites that we haven't already advertised on that seem popular enough. And also trying to get some old friends that I used to rp with in live RPs to go. But beware, if I do get them, they're used to well, live rps, so very fast paced 6 paragraphs in 15 seconds kind of guys/girls. Everyone knows that flaming Kooma has become so commonplace that it's lost most of its flame. By all means, advertise, and tell people you know are interested about the site. There's certainly nothing preventing people from doing that much. And for Xan, you may or may not agree with it, but that's how this site is based. It is incredibly easy to get two people to look at your character. All you have to do is sit there and wait. If you find that you can't do that, then find other sites to occupy yourself with; ones that fit the more rapid timeframe you're after, while you wait for this one. And on the note of topics awaiting review. There are currently no topics awaiting review. Or if they are, it's the player's own problem for not bringing it to the attention of mods by posting it in the Process Pending Forum. Putting 'awaiting review' in your topic title is hardly a way to get attention, since most people aren't scrolling through every forum to play Where's wally with those... |
