Ah, the sea. Vast and blue, it held all the adventure one could want if only they were brave enough to face it. Provided with a boat and armed with a compass and map, anyone could seek out their destiny and see the world! Right?

Apparently not.

"Damned compass. You don't fool me. That's not where you said north was half an hour ago! You're broken, aren't you?" Jayce glared at the little thing as it waggled its point at him tauntingly. Truth be told, he had no idea where he was, or what direction he was heading. North on this compass seemed to list away by the hour, and he was almost certain that it was pointing to what had been west just a few days ago. He picked up the map he had bought along with it. He had been assured it was an accurate map, but now that he saw the condition his compass was in, he began to doubt that. "Five thousand beli for this piece of shit junk... and I don't know about this map either. I'll go back and kick his ass for ripping me off... if I weren't totally lost."

He had been heading to what the map called North Amerigo, but he began to wonder if he was even going to hit and island now. Fortunately, his recent acquisition was very helpful. Ever since he had eaten that fruit, seeing things had been amazingly easy. Now, he could count the feathers on a lone albatross flying off in the horizon. It was amazing. If this was what devil fruit did, he wondered why anyone wouldn't want to eat them.

Well, except for the whole.. curse part.

He looked up from his useless map and compass, and was relieved to see a bit of green on the horizon to his left. Focusing on it, he could see a vast span of trees. If that wasn't an island, he didn't know what was. "About damn time..."

Several hours later found him cruising along the beach line, looking for some kind of port city. He could have just landed and found it by walking, but this was his only ship right now, and that he had himself stolen it was a hint on how they could vanish if left unattended. He could see a lot of peach trees as he went, so he suspected the island would be inhabited... but if it wasn't, at least he wouldn't starve here while he figured out what to do.

A pirate’s life was wonderful; constantly sailing open sea, the free lifestyle that one could have because of them not being tied down to anything, along with such things as the feeling of constant excitement you got knowing that you were an enemy of the Government. Although it hadn’t been for very long, Lucas’s time in piracy had been from his point of view “simply the best”, he hadn’t accomplished anything noteworthy, nor had he done anything that could actually be considered to do with piracy; but his life as a pirate had only just begun and now that he had finally made it away from Swift breeze, he could finally start making a crew and become a proper enemy of the government.

Stealing a boat from one of the many harbour towns and just sailing into the sea was the entirety of what he had actually done, since actually declaring himself a pirate. He spent what seemed to be up to a week on the small boat, before finally catching a glimpse of land before him. Luckily for him, even though he still had a few provisions left on board the boat; this island was what could only be described as a goldmine for the hungry person. The amount of peach trees that encompassed the entire area was breathtaking; it was as if the island itself was completely built by them.

Upon landing his craft on the beach, he decided that he would only stay here to stock up on food and hopefully fresh water if he could find any, before heading into a more populated part of the South Blue, in the hopes of finding members for his nakama. Even though for the two days that he had been on this island, all of the people he had met had completely turned his offer down, some even threatening to get the marines if he came back; the man’s spirit still remained on a high and he was quite sure that sometime soon he would find a willing person to join.

It was just about his third day on the island, when he was taking a small stroll along the beach, happily feasting on a peach, that he noticed a small vessel in the water, a distance directly in front of him. His first thoughts was that it was simply a fisherman out catching food; because to be honest, even Lucas was beginning to get sick of eating peaches now. But he couldn’t make out a rod, or anything that looked like it could do at all with fishing. As he had nothing else to do, he decided that he would go and investigate it; maybe it could give him some idea where to find members for his nakama.

Lighting a cigarette, Lucas starting walking in a direction so that he would soon be in the field of vision of anyone who may be in the boat. “’ello?!” He called out, hoping to catch their attention. “Anyone there?!

Jayce had naturally spotted the lone fruit picker some time before he had been seen himself. In the interest of not carrying on a shouting conversation though, he let himself drift closer. Now that they were both in earshot of each other, he could ask for some directions.

"Yes yes, I'm here. Hello, stranger collecting fruit." Jayce waved at the man, grinning broadly. Perhaps a little too broadly. Some people had told him before that it made them feel like he was about to lunge for them. Motioning to the island in general and its peach laden glory, he tilted his head. "I say, would this happen to be North Amerigo? I seem to have a malfunctioning compass so I'm really not sure where I am."

Leaning off the small mast of his pilfered ship by one arm, Jayce pointed at the beach hopefully. While he could technically land any time, but there was no pier it would be awkward and difficult to unbeach his ship. "And for that matter, is there a port city nearby?"

Lucas’s eyebrow slowly rose as the man got nearer and nearer to him on his small vessel; it seemed that the man had already spotted Lucas, before Lucas himself had even had a chance to see the other man. But the pirate wasn’t fussed, he just continued observing the boat, which soon became apparent to have a man within it; contradicting Lucas’s earlier guess, the man didn’t seem to have any fishing equipment with him, leading to the deduction of him being a traveller of some sorts. Still intrigued, Lucas also began walking more toward the sea, taking in a short drag on his cigarette.

As the man beamed at him, Lucas simply raised a hand calmly in a notion of greeting; the grin may have seemed almost too friendly, but the man on the beach didn’t seem to notice, let alone care, this was the first interesting looking person he had laid eyes on, since the beginning of his “Great Journey”. After listening to the man on the boat speak, Lucas exhaled a plume of smoke from his mouth, before a smirk enveloped his face. “North Amerigo..?” His voice was cool and crisp, holding little to no emotion in it. Lucas had heard of the place before, whilst back in Swift Breeze, he had heard something of a name change of sorts; all he knew was that the new name had something to do with some sort of food. “’fraid not...” Taking in another drag on his cigarette, Lucas continued: “This is Awestralia. And for the matter of the port town, yes there is one just along the shore.

Raising his hand, Lucas pointed over in direction where the forests seemed to thin out; behind this small expanse was a small town, one which Lucas had only recently visited. Although not being the biggest on the island, it was okay for someone who was lost. “Just behind that line of peach trees, there’s a small trading town of sorts; I haven’t got much info on it, I didn’t stay there for that long. However, the quickest way to get there from here, would be by boat, so you’re pretty much set.” Taking in another drag on his cigarette, Lucas gently rested his left arm on the hilt of the corresponding katana, awaiting the man’s response.

Upon hearing the news that he was not even close to North Amerigo - for he had seen the Awestralia on the map and it was considerably off course - he cursed not quite so quietly, giving the broken compass laying on his small deck a kick. The little glass and metal tool spiraled off his boat completely and plopped in the water some distance out. He did not feel particularly inclined to go reclaim it.

His small snit expended, he turned his attention back to the peach-eating man in time to hear some directions. "Splendid! Hope they have a compass for me." He peered speculatively at the man, considering if it might be profitable to rob him. He was certainly far enough from the town to avoid being noticed. His acute vision caught the move to a katana however, and he scrapped that plan. He had no idea how skilled the smoking man was with it - robbing a sword master was undeniably foolish. Thus, he took a different approach. "So, what are you doing all the way out here anyway? Are the peaches better farther from the town?" He gave the man a wry smirk, seeming to find something funny about that.

Watching the man kick the compass a fair distance into the blue surrounding him, Lucas’s smirk was still ripe on his face; it was apparent that the compass was indeed very faulty, as if it had lead him here, instead of his intended target of North Amerigo, it must have been in pretty bad shape. Taking in a long, final drag on his now miniscule cigarette, Lucas began to again walk ever closer to the man in the boat, almost reaching the water after only a few steps. He was tempted at first to go and see if he could rob the man, but then he decided against it, almost instantly after the thought came to mind; even if he was a pirate, he wouldn’t rob from lonely men on small boats. Also, if he only had a broken compass and a map, it was most likely that he wouldn’t have any money on him either.

Flicking the now burnt out cigarette into the water before him, Lucas’s vision fell back upon the mass of blue in front of him, taking it away from the man for a second; however, as the man began to speak again, Lucas’s attention was immediately drawn back to the man and his small boat. He wondered if the boat he had got there in was still in the town where he had left it, which was coincidentally, the small harbour town where he had pointed the man in the direction of. Now looking attentively at the man, Lucas seemed almost taken aback by the man's question for a split second, before seeming to flow naturally back into his cool stance. “Me? I’m currently looking for nakama, if you really want to know.

He didn’t see any point in lying to the man; hell, if he had been a member of the government, Lucas may have had the opportunity to actually do something noticeable, but for now, he would leave it as it was. “I’m looking for suitable members to join me in the life of a pirate... And since I left Swift Breeze, this was the first place I stopped to actually look.” Looking down at the half eaten peach, Lucas sighed, before tossing it into the water before him. “Sadly, I’ve had no luck...” He began to chuckle to himself, he still wasn’t really fussed; he would find the treasure on his own if he had too.
And what about you?

Let go of the mast finally, standing up straight and looking at the peach man with new interest. He wasn't a marine, sure, but it seemed to him like it would take some balls to openly at admit intentions of piracy to a stranger.

Reaching upwards, he pushed his frilly hat back almost unconsciously, his expression becoming less goofy and vapid. He still grinned, but it wasn't the insane one he had adopted earlier "Well then, my peach-eating friend, it seems we have some parallel in our goals." He pondered for a moment at mentioning that he had tasted a devil fruit and the resulting ability, but decided to leave that for later as a possible trump card. No need to go advertising ones abilities to every stranger this early in his career. He motioned to his boat, tilting his head again. Might as well make an offer now. "You're welcome to join my crew, if you wish. The boat is small and I have no flag yet, but if you haven't had any luck finding crew members I don't imagine you're doing much better."

Now that he thought of it, he hadn't given his future pirate team a name yet. If he was going to get a jolly roger he needed to come up with a theme for it. This just wouldn't do.

Lucas watched with interest as the man finally stood up in his small boat, but gripped the hilt of his katana, just so that he would have been ready if the man had attacked him. But, it seemed the man in the boat was almost happy at his statement. Loosening his grip, Lucas listened to the man’s short speech, his eyebrow slowly rising throughout. It seemed this man was also a pirate; making him the very first one Lucas had met in his journeys since that time back in Swift Breeze all those years ago. It seemed that Awestralia might have actually been a good place to visit indeed.

Still smirking, Lucas ran his hand through his hair, seeming a bit tempted by the man’s offer to join his own crew. He had always had his mind set on starting his own crew, rather than joining anyone else’s, but when the offer was actually presented before him, it was a whole situation altogether. For a second he just stood there, looking out into the sea behind the man in the boat; he still wasn’t all too sure on what to do, but he was starting to edge on refusing the man to start his own crew; as he wanted to follow in the footsteps of that certain pirate.

Let us just travel to the town before we do anything.” Slipping his hand into his pocket Lucas withdrew a small white packet, soon drawing a cigarette from it, before depositing back from where it had came. “We don’t even know each others’ names as of yet, so I think a good start would be to actually get to that point; wouldn’t you agree?” Not giving the man a chance to speak, Lucas lit his cigarette, before continuing: “Name’s Lucas King, and may enquire as to what yours is?

Taking in a long drag on the cigarette, Lucas rested both his hands on the hilts of both the katana that were on either hip.

Was fairly sure he had caught a glimmer of interest in the others reaction. It was a start, he figured, that was better than outright refusal. Perhaps he would get himself a first mate after all.

Still smirking as if amused by the entire conversation, he lifted his hat formally in greeting, giving a small bow. "That'd be Jayce Steppet to you, captain of the future Hawk-Eye pirate crew." The name had been a spot decision for him, and he thought it fit well. He had heard of pirate captains naming their crew after themselves, and his ability seemed like a good enough descriptor. He gave no further explanation for the name right now, though. "And alright, going to town works for me."

He noted the readying of swords again, and that there were two, and figured if anyone had more than one blade they likely knew how to use them well. But, if he was going to have someone as a first mate, he should find out just how well. Leaning backwards as if to check the position of the sun, he grasped at his dagger, tossing it at Lucus without changing expression. It was aimed deliberately to miss him by a margin of around a foot, but if he had good enough reflexes he would probably block it anyway, or dodge. "Think fast."

Smiling at hearing the man’s name, Lucas lowered his body in a sort of bow-like motion, showing respect. Still not sure what to say about the whole being offered a part of his crew idea, Lucas took in a small drag on his cigarette, releasing a large plume of smoke, with a sigh. “Nice to meet you, Jayce.” His smirk returned to his face, as he sized up the man in the boat before him; to Lucas he seemed pretty normal, but growing up, Lucas had always been taught to never underestimate anything; especially on these strange seas.

Lucas was wondering how he would get to town, however; he could walk it, but it would take exceptionally longer than if he somehow managed to hitch a ride from this man, but he was soon snapped out of it, when he heard the mention of the man’s pirate crew. “Hawk-Eye pirates, you say?” He took in a small drag on his cigarette. “Sounds fancy.” He had never really heard the name of a proper pirate crew before, even the few ones that would come into Swift Breeze, Lucas was always too afraid, or too awe inspired to actually ask theirs. It made him wonder what he would name his pirate crew if he did refuse the man’s offer, which was getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.

A second later, he noted Jayce leaning back, as if to check the sun, before he actually seemed to throw something at Lucas. Acting on impulse, the man quickly produced one of his katanas; this one being from his right hip, so it was held in his left hand. A split second later there was a clang on metal on metal as the dagger fell onto the floor in front of Lucas. “So it was going to miss me after all...” He said, taking in a drag on his cigarette, whilst chuckling. Sheathing the katana, he picked the dagger up, flipping it so that the blade was in between his index and middle finger. He held it out in the direction of the man in the boat. “I do believe this belongs to you.
