Walking from the improvised operating room, Kurtz removed his gloves and wiped his brow. He took off his surgical mask as he stepped out onto the deck, taking a deep breath of the cool salt air. Ferriya was bounding about amongst the rigging, constantly shifting between her cat and hybrid forms, as at home in the air as his bird ex-captain. "Good work back there, miss Ferriya," Kurtz stated curtly, throwing the disposable mask overboard and looking around for a bucket of water. Finding one, he dropped in a pellet of effervescing detergent. When the water had gotten good and frothy, he stuffed in his shirt, coat, and both gloves, his mangled, scar-covered torso and arms open to the blue sky and burning sun. "Nyaa, how is the bird-guy?" Ferriya's tone was high-spirited and energetic; if he hadn't known they'd just barely escaped marine pursuit and the death of their new companion, she certainly wouldn't have tipped him off by her actions. She seemed just as, if not more, happy-go-lucky than the day she had met him. "He's in rather bad shape, but I'm inclined to believe he'll make it. In tip-top shape, after a few days rest, at that. He had an excellent doctor." "Is there someone else on the ship, nyara?" Kurtz smiled darkly at her question, following her poofy orange form as it darted between the mast and sails like a flame among oily rags. Letting the comment slide, he paced over to the fore of the ship. "I feel that there aught to be. I'd like to take on one, maybe two more hands before we brave Reverse Mountain." ""Nyaaa...Upside-Down Inverted Rainbow Mountain?" "How did you even get that from what I sa-" Kurtz sighed, his smile softening, his eyes glancing out over the shimmering white and blue vastness before them. In the distance he could see the low walls of the Red Line West-South Cannal Six growing closer. "Yes, Miss Ferriya. Upside-Down Inverted Rainbow Mountain." He could hear the cat-pirate-woman-person-thing above him purr excitedly. Kurtz found her spirit uplifting. In spite of everything that had happened, he was excited to; having her around, brimming with cheer, made it hard to ignore the fact. As they drew close to cannal, Kurtz saw that it was, much as he had hoped, unmanned at the moment. He had managed to read in the paper, before leaving Whaler's ship, that a series of strong storms and the off-trade season had left several of the West-South cannals unmanned. For a ship carrying only tree pirates, of of them wounded, they couldn't have had better luck. "Swiftbreeze, then Reverse Mountain," Kurtz stated to himself, leaning on his cane, staring out over the unadorned bough of the ship. "A proper ship and a proper entrance." Somewhere in the distance, fate was readying itself for them. Kurtz hoped, deep inside, that it was preparing something special. Something worth a trip halfway around the world and back. Maybe some tea, too. He'd been a long time without. |

Ferriya leapt out of the crow's nest, twisting in midair before landing perfectly on the deck. She glanced into the bubbling water full of Kurtz's clothing and sneezed as a bubble reached her nose. "Nyaraa... A few more people would be good! Like... like... a navigator, maybe! O-or... a... a farmer, nyaa~!" Her blue eye sparkled, ignoring the look Kurtz was giving her. She grinned at him. "I'm going downstairs to see that bird-captain of yours. When I come back, I'll wash these for you~!" Before he could say anything, she dashed for the door, pausing only to grin at him. 'I did the laundry on my last ship, too~!" With that, her tail whipped around and she descended into the ship. A few moments later, she crouched by Malcom's bed, her fluffy tail low and twitching with excitement... |

Muse stared forlornly down at the water as her small boat cut through it. Why had her teacher gone and forced her out to sea? Honestly, she would have gone on her own. She owed him too much to refuse a request from him. Now she was in the middle of nowhere, on a boat that could only follow currents, as the sail had ripped, she had no map nor compass, and she had a headache from whatever she had been drugged with. "How could this get any worse"? She muttered to herself, flopping backwards onto the floor of the boat. There was a sudden crunching noise, and she saw up to see rocks shredding her small vessel. "I just had to ask, didn't I"? She stood up and grabbed a small white bag with extra clothes in it and her staff. After a quick search she saw a small settlement about a mile and a half behind her. She slung the bag over her shoulder, and made sure she was holding her staff tight, and jumped into the water. It didn't take too long before she reached her current destination. She stumbled up the beach, trying not to trod on her dress or hair. She pushed her hair out of her eyes, then got distracted by it. It was soaked in sea water, as were her clothes. It would take forever to wash the salt out. Plus when it dried, it would dry all stiff. She was distracted by her upsetedness with the hearing of voices. A bit to the side was a man, talk to a cat? Well, she had seen stranger things. She walked over to them, leaning against her staff, and putting one arm across her chest when she stopped. White clothes and water didn't really mix well, as known by most women."Hello." She greeted the man, as the cat had ran inside. "You wouldn't happen to know where am I, would you"? As Ferriya finished making some comment about laundry and running below deck, Kurtz turned to face the rapidly approaching shoreline of beaches that framed the canal. Much to his dismay, he saw that they'd moved a lot faster towards the entrance; in fact, he barely had time to brace himself as the ship beached. As he was recovering from the impact, Kurtz heard a light, musical voice hailing him. Turning towards it's source, the doctor found a young woman approaching their craft. She was completely soaked, the tangle of her dark hair hinting that it had been saltwater; like as not, she'd just dragged herself out of the ocean. "West Blue, on the Red Line. Over that way," Kurtz began, tilting his head towards the canal, "is South Blue." Kurtz suddenly remembered that he was shirtless; his entire torso was covered in pale, jagged scars from lacerations and burns, only his hands and head unscathed. On the back of his left hand was a symbol all too familiar to the girl; the hoof of the soaring dragon. "Given that this post is uninhabited, I'm guessing you were wrecked...tough run of luck, hnn?" The doctor's voice was slightly high in pitch for a male, his tone very friendly. The cobalt blue iris of his left eye, devoid of a pupil, seemed to focus on her. His unreadable grin opened up into a smile, and he gestured back towards his boat. "If you're not interested in waiting for the marines to return, we could offer you passage as far as Swiftbreeze. If, that is, you'd not terribly mind put this fine craft back into the water, hn hn hn." |

Muse was taken aback at the man's appearance. And there was an air to him, one that unsettled, and frightened her. She nodded slightly, acknowledging that she had been paying attention when he stated she was in the West Blue. Her eyes inspected him casually, taking in his full appearance. Though she froze when she caught sight of his left hand, or rather the mark on it. Her arm went to rest over her stomach, almost an involuntary act. She halted her arm at the last second though, keeping it over her chest. "Wha? Ah, yeah. Yeah, bad luck." She replied, being distracted out of her revelry. Just in time for another terror air to go by. She shivered slightly as his pupil-less eye focused on her for a second. He smiled then, and offered her a ride to Swiftbreeze. He seemed friendly enough, but many people did. She tilted her head slightly, bringing down the barriers she had set up to protect herself from others' emotions. She was getting no signs that anyone in the vicinity wished harm. She put her shields back up, and smiled back at him. "That would be nice. I thank you, and I certainly don't mind." |

In the brief moment that Muse had activated her mantra, she could feel an intense excitement coming from the stranger infront of her, as well as one other person from the boat. There was a sense of thrill, like something wild had just happened, a sense of anticipation. Strangely, there was something else form the man who stood infront of her; sympathy. "Pardon my abysmal manners," Kurtz stated, bowing slightly, his hand over his abdomen. He extended it a moment later, his lips resuming their earlier enigmatic grin. "Kurtz. Kurtz Rosencrantz, doctor of physical medicine." |

While none of the emotions she had felt were anything to make her fear for her safety, thus convincing her to trust this man she had just met, they were something to think about. The sympathy was easy to guess, she was alone on a desert piece of land, with no boat. Unless the sympathy was coming from inside the ship, but she doubted that. It was the thrill that made her curious. A ghost of a blush almost tainted Muse's tan cheeks as the man bowed and introduced himself. Almost. It was a nice gesture, one of which she wasn't used to. She made sure her staff was not about to fall any time soon, and let go of it, shaking Kurtz's hand with her recently freed one. "Muse. Also known as the Claw of the Dragon, but you can call me Muse. Kurtz laughed softly in surprise, his eyes widening a bit. "A monk? I'm unacquainted to such spiritually refined company. All the same, come, if you will, aboard. If you're sore for a prayer mat, we've like as not got something on hand that'll pass for one." The self-proclaimed doctor turned towards the small vessel, knocking on it's side. He gave a distinct "psst", the sort you'd use to call a cat. "Miss Ferriya, we've a new passenger." Turning back towards Muse, Kurtz rubbed the back of his head, closing his eyes and laughing again, this time with a hint of embarrassment. "Pardon, pardon. She'll be out in just a moment. Won't you wait a bit longer?" Grabbing onto the ship's rail, Kurtz hauled himself up. A moment later, a rope ladder fell down over the side, the doctor himself standing by it's base, hand extended. "Welcome aboard." |

Muse smiled slightly at his words. "No need for a prayer mat. I can pray just about anywhere. Plus it's mostly fighting rather than prayer." It was true. While she did pray sometimes, her religion focused mostly on inner-reflection through fighting. She watched curiously as Kurtz knocked on the side of the boat, and assuming spoke to someone inside. She smiled knowingly at his words. "I will indeed." She said with a small nod. She watched as he climbed onto the ship, then tossed a rope ladder over. She smiled as he welcomed her aboard with such courtesy. "Many thanks." She said, bowing slightly to him, before grabbing her staff again and climbing up the ladder. |

Ferriya sighed at Kurtz's call... the giant bird was still annoyingly human, frustrating her attempt to stalk him. Just a little. She wasn't going to hurt him, honest! She turned to the door, carefully smacking the injured man with her tail before she ran back on deck. She paused at the top of the stairs. A strange woman with extremely long hair and a white dress was standing on the deck across from Kurtz. She stared at the stranger, then bounded forward, sniffing curiously. That's when a particularly large drop of water splatted onto her head. "NYAaARAaa~!" She cried out in surprise, leaping back behind Kurtz's legs, staring at the woman. Now that she looked again, she was soaking wet, tangled up in her own gown and hair. Ferriya loved water... but that did NOT look pleasant. Instead, she leapt onto Kurtz's shoulder, doing her best not to dig her claws in much. She decided to simply watch for a while, head tilted to one side curiously. Is this another of Kurtz's old friends...? NYARAA!? Is he going to try to replace me!? She looked back at him, eyes wide with anxiety. |

Whether or not Ferriya had succeeded at keeping her claws out of Kurtz' skin, the doctor would never know; the insensate scar tissue upon which she perched was no worse for wear. "Though she's strangely fond of wearing that form, this is Miss Salzach Ferriya." Kurtz gestured towards the bizarrely anxious-looking cat. "She's the craft's first mate and acting captain, until the wounded tengu below deck stops being so...wounded." Ferriya turned her aqua eyes back towards Muse and raised a single paw, her nervousness assuaged by being affirmed as "acting captain". "Nya!" Kurtz noted that if the girl had been wrecked and made it to shore, she couldn't be an ability user. It had occured to him earlier that with the three of them cursed, it'd be good to have someone who could swim on hand. He wondered, briefly, if he should convince her to stay on or seek out a another "swimmie" at Swift Breeze.. "Miss Ferriya, if you would greet her in your proper form." A split second after the words were spoken he nervously appended his statement. "Please quit my shoulder first, though..." |

Ferriya pouted at him and pushed against his thin cheek with one soft, furry paw. "I'm not stupid...! No way you could me hold me on your shoulder...!" She looked up at Muse and smiled impossibly cutely, then leapt to the deck. Before her paws could hit the ground, her body changed. Ferriya's boots thumped solidly, and she brushed some errant hair out of her eye. She grinned and offered her hand to the dripping wet girl, her huge tail held high with excitement. "Ferriya Salzach, nyaraa~! It's nice to meet you, miss..." |

Novia's got me. Malcolm dreamed. His mild nightmare surfacing through the cloudy haze of a medicine induced coma. I .... Need to get out.... somehow.... I need to fight! Malcolm sat up bolt right. All senses alert. They got me restrained! Malcolm fought wildly for a second with his blanket. The lighting down below was horrible. Winning his small battle Malcolm looked around for his clothes but could not find a single piece of cloth in the cabin. Well Ill just have to beat someone up for some pants I guess. Malcolm stretched and felt sharp stabbing pain on his sides. Fingering the wounds distinct stitches ran along his torso. A flash of anger erupted in Malcolm Novia put something in me! Ill Kill him! Losing all reason Malcolm started to scream at the top of his lungs as he charged up the only staircase. Jumping at the last minute Malcolm did a flying jump kick through the weak door. Vaulting onto the deck completely naked. Malcolm pasted right by Kurtz and Ferriya his momentum taking him dangerously close to Muse. Splintered wood flew in the air around him as he screamed at the top of his lungs "NOVIA!!". Tumbling into a ball Malcolm rolled past Muse his white flesh exposed for all to see. Leaping onto his feet ready for a battle Malcolm heard a loud cough from behind him. |

Before he'd even had a chance to enjoy the fact that thing's hadn't gone horribly wrong in the past few minutes, things went horribly wrong. In terror of Novia for some reason, in spite of his geographical separation from the crew, his captain burst leg first, completely nude, through the door to the small ship's interior. "Senchou...this is not how we ought to greet guests..." If the crazed tengu heard his reserved statement, he'd never know. He was in a sort of panic; there was nothing showing to his blind eye but fear of capture, fear of loss, fear of...something having been implanted inside of him. His captain unflurled, naked as the day he was born and in a fighting stance, facing the newest addition to the tiny stolen ship's crew. Kurtz attempted to sigh, but only managed to cough. Slightly embarrassed, he took out his anger on his captain. Ferriya and Muse could feel the air around them, the breath in their lungs, the blood in their veins turn to ice. Malcom himself felt a sudden gripping, horrid terror, the manifestation of every dark shiver he'd ever felt, the pain of utter and unadulerated terror gripping his heart. "You...shouldn't be seen naked, Senchou. Nobody'll ever acknowledge a man with such shameful behavior as the Pirate King." He hoped that Malcom had enough sense left to take to his big blackbird form to minimize his exposure; even as the waves of terror bled from his being, Kurtz hoped he wouldn't get socked. Letting the terror down, Kurtz stood, naked from the waist-up himself, waiting for his captain to either keep his decency or knock him off the boat. |

The moment Malcom hit the deck, something inside Ferriya clicked. She blinked in confusion as he stood there, buck naked, as waves of icy horror rippled off Kurtz. While she noted these things, she didn't actually see them. In her mind, she could only see one thing. "COBAAALT~!! Put some clothes on~!!" Before anyone could react, least of all Malcom, Ferriya had jump-kicked him in the head, her boots making a solid thunk. "Ferriya KICK!" As the man reeled, she landed elegantly on her feet and balled her fists up petulantly. "You're embarrassing me again! Why can't you keep your clothes on for five minutes!? It's not that hot and I don't care if you like to feel the breeze! No one will ever take you seriously as police chief if you don't grow up!" There was a moment of silence, broken as Malcom hit the deck. Ferriya blinked, then blushed slightly. "...nyaraa... i-instinct...?" |
