They usually have good insight in the aspects of weight, balance and movement of the body. Position: Captain Vessel: The High Roller Hometown: Denpu, Kieldonia (East Blue) Hair: Van’s hair is a disheveled mess of both jet-black and pure white, each color taking up both halves of his hair. The white portion of his hair is another result of his albinism. Messy and spiky all-around, his hair is generally short in nature, but the unkempt course it takes tends to make it seem lengthy in places. Eye: Van is an individual with complete heterochromia, in that he has two entirely different colored eyes. The left is a fierce, lustrous black, whilst the right is a mystifying, milky white, the latter being a result of the albinism disorder. The two serve as a contrast of sorts, complementing his overall character. Physique: His body type can be described as lightly toned, with broad shoulders and modest muscle mass all-around. Clothing: Outfit #1 - To begin with, worn over a simple black tee-shirt with a traditional black and white yin-yang symbol on the front, is a jacket which ends only just at his waistline and is zipped all the way up. The most noticeable feature about this jacket is that it has been fashioned stylishly to spot the colors of black and white. Beginning from the lining for the zipper, the black portion travels across the left exterior of the jacket’s flap until it reaches midway around the sleeve, as does the white portion of the jacket vice-versa to the right. The remainder of the sleeves, as well as the back of the jacket, is finished with a switch in the two colors, in which white extends from where the preceding black stopped midway along the sleeve, and continues to travel until it reaches the halfway mark of the jacket along the back, as does the black extending from the white vice-versa, to complete the whole set. Even the boy’s baggy pants look similar to that of his jacket, as from a distance, his body appears to be completely black on the left side and white on the right. The left pants legs stops short at around the midsection of his leg, though flesh is not visible as the entirety of said leg is wrapped in white bandages. The right pants leg stretches downward too far, to the point of where he must tuck it into his right shoe, speaking of which, is entirely black, from the opening to the soles, but uses white laces instead. Similar, his left shoe is entirely white with black laces. Outfit #2 - This outfit consists of a shirt that is completely white at the top half, including sleeves, and entirely black at the lower half. He also wears an unseen, thin black hoodie within the shirt, save for the hood protruding from the back of the shirt, typically for the intents of hiding that distinguishable hair color. The lower region of his body sports a pair of baggy shorts that has a similar color scheme to that of his shirt, being white at the top and black at the bottom. A more distinguishing characteristic about the shorts are the broken lines traveling vertically down the middle of the top white portion of the shorts until it is cut off by the lower black portion. Also, sewn into the lower black portion of the shorts are half of the yin yang symbols on both legs. However, the left leg has half the symbol on the top of where the black portion of the shorts are cut off, whilst the right leg has half the symbol on the bottom edge of where the short's leg opening ends. Finally, he wears his typical pair of mismatched colored sneakers, consisting of the left shoe being entirely white with black shoelaces, while the right shoe is black with white shoelaces. Accessories: Outfit #1 - He wears a long black scarf which he must wrap around himself a few times, until he allows the loose end of the scarf to hang down freely to his calf muscle. Extra: --- Picture: Spoiler: click to toggle Miscellaneous: Blanc means "White" in French. A. Van is something of an anagram from the word "Vana", which means Forest in some Indian languages. Thusly, his whole name means "White Forest." Van was born on February 1st, the numbers together being "21", which is a representation of the number used for "Blackjack" in poker. The animal he most resembles is a zebra. His favorite colors are black and white. He smells of money. His favorite type of island and season is spring on an autumn island. The family member Van most fits is the third son. His favorite food is any variety of cheeses, with some wine on the side. Personality Van’s character has often been categorized as something of an “all or nothing” type of thinker. Because of his childhood, as well as his love for the art of gambling, he has transformed it into a set of ideals that has merged entirely with his mindset. And the end result? A straightforward way of thinking that involves only two, opposite alternatives, not unlike that of either winning or losing when it comes to gambling. If he’s in the face of someone he’s just met, after seeing enough of their actions, he’ll automatically credit them as either a good guy or bad guy. If he’s asked to comment on how an object or such looks, it’s either gorgeous or ugly as sin. As blunt as he may be, he might not act accordingly in the face of such situations as most would, but nevertheless, there is rarely any middle ground whatsoever with the lad per se. Such a state of mind even extents to his attention span, typically only able to focus on one of many events taking place. There are rare occasions when he can take on two tasks, but anything over two is simply out of the question, showing his ineptitude when it comes to multitasking. Though most would criticize such a way of thinking for being incorrect or idiotic, as a positive, it is a testament to the lad’s decisiveness when it comes to settling his mind on a certain task or ideal, rather than being hesitant and uncertain. There are no maybe’s, but’s or if’s when it comes to Van. He’ll go a full 120% until he’s achieved an objective. That’s not to say it is impossible or even difficult for others to change his mind. Simply that, once he’s decided on one of any two possible choices, he’ll roll with it fully until such an occasion comes around to sway him otherwise. Similarly branching from his love of gambling is his tendency to get a kick out of taking risk, whether involving money or not (though he would prefer the former before anything else). As such, he has also been recognized as something of a thrill seeker, going out of his way to do the most moronic of stunts, embark on the most dangerous adventures, or even partake in the most redundant fights if he is bored enough. Even something as insignificant as handling money--- which he sucks at tremendously in any situation unless it deals directly with gambling---gives him a rush of adrenaline. Coupled with the fact that he can be over the top spontaneous when there is little need to be, carefree and unmindful to the most obvious of circumstances going on around him, as well as display a sense of overconfidence in situations that are anything but risky, it is a wonder how he’s managed to live as long as he has. Especially when he feels such things as engaging crabs in arm wresting contests as a daily necessity not unlike breathing and eating. Because he has grown up with such a great friend at his side since upbringing, he is often willing to befriend virtually anyone, in hopes to find someone(s) just as grand and awe-inspiring. Though they might start off on bad terms as a result of Van’s many…flaws, only the utmost undeserving will receive his scornfulness. As such, he treasures his friendships in the highest regard possible (though he isn’t prone to doing mischievous deeds to said people still in all good fun), in the sense that he will do well nigh anything for his friends unless it strongly conflicts with his morals. This is especially true when his friends are placed in any form of threatening predicament that is physically or mentally/emotionally harmful to their well being. Whether a person, place or thing, the cause is irrelevant in the ‘two’ track mind of Van, as long as he manages to put a stop to it. This outlook even extends to some of those he’s met for the first time or knows little about. Not that he’s a selfless, caring type of person; on the contrary, it’s the exact opposite. Nevertheless, if someone or something rubs him the wrong way, he’ll be sure let them know. More so physically than verbally. History Spoiler: click to toggle Combat Van’s techniques revolve around the use of his Devil Fruit and his fighting style that has been dubbed High-Stakes. The fighting style holds no particular sophistication like that of most others, typically consisting of any possible hits and maneuvers he can think of at the time, though he is essentially fond of striking with an open palm than a fist. Combined with the multiple versions of himself, they attack simultaneously with synchronized blows to overwhelm the target or targets. In addition, with the Devil Fruit’s abilities to adjust certain characteristics amongst themselves, the many Vans’ are able to pool their strengths into a single Van to offer a particular advantage for numerous situations. The names of the techniques revolving around the sole use of the Devil Fruit are derived from the changing states and objects in the sky in French. The names of the techniques involving his High-Stakes fighting style are based on various gambling and poker terms and references in Japanese. These fruits are limited to paramecia and zoan, and further limited based on moderator discretion. Certain fruits are deemed too powerful for "starting fruits" and will not be allowed regardless of class (myth/ancient type zoans, paramecia with irresistible effects, etc). In the end, the moderator staff has the final say on what passes. Devil Fruit Name: Han Han no Mi (Opposite Opposite Fruit) Devil Fruit Type: Paramecia Devil Fruit Ability: The Han Han no Mi is a Paramecia whose name, han means opposite. Hanhan together also means half and half or fifty-fifty. Upon the consumption of this fruit, the eater is granted the ability to generate “opposites” of an entity. This is done by the bearer physically coming into contact with said entity, typically via the hands. In doing so, a Taijitsu symbol manifests upon the surface and the bearer proceeds to ‘split’ the entity apart until two identical copies of the original have materialized in his/her/its place, effectively severing the “yin and yang” It does not generate “opposites” in the sense of the literal meaning of the word necessarily, but rather, the divided pieces are unalike and dissimilar in some way or another, no matter how small and imperceptible. Otherwise, the separated pieces are no different than the original whole, though it is entirely at the user's discretion of how similar to the original either piece is. Even after separation has occurred, the bearer may still influence the two in that he/she may swap certain qualities up to 50% from the original, such as making one 50% bigger in stature and the other 50% smaller, one 50% heavier and the other 50% lighter, or anything of the sort, as long as a ‘balance’ is maintained. The reason for such is because the two are still interconnected. More often than not, living beings separated as a result of this fruit’s abilities are likely to possess a form of empathy amongst themselves through the five senses. As a result, the two can hear, see, smell, taste and even feel what the other does. This fruit may be used not only for purposes of separating entities into two, but also merging them back together. Maintaining physical contact with the divided pieces, the bearer manifests the Taijitsu symbol once more upon the surface of the two. However one dons only the white portion representing yang, whilst the other the black portion representing yin. After this procedure, he may effectively merge the two back into one by pushing them together, pooling and accumulating all the changes back into the original. This isn’t limited to pieces divided as a result of the Devil Fruit’s power. Any entity is prone to being represented as “yin” and “yang” as long as they're dissimilar. Techniques Technique Points: 43/48 Max Rank: 12 ~Devil Fruit~ l'heure Bleue (Blue Hour) 青の時間 – Rank 4 (Free) Type: Supportive Range: Self Stats: --- The fundamental ability of the Devil Fruit’s ability, it is essentially Van’s signature technique. After manifesting the Taijitsu symbol upon his chest, from down the middle of his body, he splits off into two, mostly identical versions of himself. The most noticeable physical change about the two is that one dons a full head of white hair and two pairs of milky white pupils, while the other jet black hair with matching black eyes. Not only are the physical characteristics distinguishable, their personalities are slightly different to that of the original. The white-haired Van (Van II) retains the optimistic attitude, whilst the black-haired Van (dubbed Van III) retains the pessimistic outlook, the remainder of which being no different than Van himself. The two Vans’ will often work together with synchronized maneuvers as a result of the empathic link between themselves that connects their five senses, as well as their similar (for the most part) mindset. If one of the two Vans’ were to die, they are automatically merged back into one person again, and enter a state of comatose for an amount of time dependant upon the injury inflicted. The name of this technique, Blue Hour, is another name for twilight. Spoiler: click to toggle Terminateur (Terminator) ターミネーター – Rank 6 (Level 2 – Blue Hour) Type: Supportive Range: Self Stats: --- This technique, an advanced version to that of Blue Hour, follows the same fundamental process. Essentially the aforementioned technique in itself, after splitting into two is where the similarity between the two ends. These two Vans’ then split into two individual beings themselves, creating a total of four Vans’. The appearance of two of these Vans’ is no different than before, with white and black hair and eyes (II and III respectively). However, the remaining two Vans’ don red and yellow hair and eyes. However, the four of them all have diverse personalities that differ from the previous two. Van II is pure and childlike, Van III is aggressive and dark, Van IV is enthusiastic and fervent, while Van V is timid and apprehensive. Not only that, but each of these four Vans’ “specialize” in a certain field that retains the original Van’s physical prowess. Van II is the “tank” (Stamina), Van III is the “muscles” (Strength), Van IV is the “racer” (Speed), and Van V is the “bulls-eye” (Accuracy). Although the four specialize in their respective fields, they are lacking in others. In spite of this, the four work together to make up for their weaknesses and overwhelm their opponent(s) all the same. The name of this technique, Terminator, is an alternate name for sunrise and sunset. Two Vans’ execute a running jump kick with their left and right legs side-by-side respectively. Kou Suteekusu: Kuuki ga Kawa ni (High-Stakes: Air on the River) 高ステークス:空気が川に – Rank 2 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m ~ 3m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans. One Van, seizing another Van by the forearms, lifts him off his feet with a steadily increasing spin that gives off the impression of a miniature twister. With his body fully extended, the Van being spun slams into any surrounding enemies with his suspended legs. Kou Suteekusu: Sorera Bunsan Shi (High-Stakes: Spread ‘Em) 高ステークス:それら分散し – Rank 2 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans’. Two Vans perform a sweep kick simultaneously in-between the opponent’s legs, forcing them in opposite directions to render the opponent into something of a gymnastic split. It is especially effective against males, though some females might find it rather painful as well. Kou Suteekusu: Teishi Shite Iku (High-Stakes: Stop and Go) 高ステークス:停止して行く – Rank 2 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans’. Two Vans’ executes a strike with both palms cupped together at the opponent from opposite directions. Kou Suteekusu: Byouga Suru (High-Stakes: Draw) 高ステークス:描画する - Rank 2 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m ~ 2m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans’. One Van cocks his arm back, in preparation for an open palm strike to the opponent. Just as he thrusts said arm forward, another Van’s arm shortens in terms of length, down to about half its original size. As a result, the attacking Van's arm elongates to about four feet in length, offering his blows a bit of range. The four Vans, assuming a diamond formation around the opponent, dash forward all at the same time. Midway into their run, they slide across the ground, with their uppermost leg held up in the air. As they near the target, the four kick simultaneously into the opponent’s general upper body area, rendering the target airborne by sending their body straight upwards. Kou Suteekusu: Shita no Pea ni Modoru (High-Stakes: Top to Bottom Pair) 高ステークス:下のペアに戻る – Rank 4 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans’. One Van executes a roundhouse kick to the opponent’s face from the left, while another Van executes a sweep kick to the opponent’s legs from the right, effectively sending the target into an airborne clockwise spin. Kou Suteekusu: Daburueesufurasshu (High-Stakes: Double Ace Flush) 高ステークス:ダブルエースフラッシュ – Rank 4 Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m) Stats: --- Usable during Terminator or any other technique that creates at least four full body Vans’. Two Vans’, from behind, push the opponent’s shoulder forward with an open palm strike while the rest of their body follows suit. Meanwhile, two Vans, from the front, kick toward the opponent’s legs in such a way that they’re attempting to trip them. As a result, the opponent falls a full 90° from their once upright positioning into the ground face first. Kou Suteekusu: Renga Dukuri no Bakudan (High-Stakes: Brick Bomb) 高ステークス:れんが造りの爆弾 - Rank 5 Type: Offensive Range: Close ~ Mid (0m ~ 5m) Stats: --- Usable during Blue Hour or any other technique that creates at least two full body Vans. This technique is used as something of a finisher. Adjusting the weight amongst themselves to make one Van heavier and another Van lighter, either Van picks up the other’s currently lighter body and tosses him in the opponent’s direction like a makeshift javelin. As the thrown Van nears the target, the two adjust the weight once more to swap vice versa so the thrown Van is heavier, thus augmenting the impact of his double palm thrust into the target. Kou Suteekusu: Kyacchi Paafekuto (High-Stakes: Catch Perfect) 高ステークス: キャッチパーフェクト - Rank 5 (Level 1 – High-Stakes: Straight Draw) Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m ~ 3m) Stats: --- Usable during Terminator or any other technique that creates at least four full body Vans’. After one Van reaches out with both arms on either side of himself, three sideline Vans’ arms shrink in terms of length, pooling it all into the attacking Van’s arms. In doing so, the pair elongate to about six feet, allowing Van to grab a hold of two distant enemies on both sides of him. Then, the aforementioned three Vans’ arms diminish in width as well, accumulating into the attacking Van’s arms to bulk them up considerably. Attaining an adequate amount of strength through this method, Van then swings his arms to the front in order to clobber his two opponents together painfully or sandwich any unfortunate victims in-between as well. Kou Suteekusu: Daburu Appu (High-Stakes: Double Up) 高ステークス: ダブルアップ - Rank 5 (Level 1 – High-Stakes: Fixed Limit) Type: Offensive Range: Close (0m ~ 3m) Stats: --- Usable during Terminator or any other technique that creates at least four full body Vans’. After one Van leaps into the air, seemingly performing a dropkick maneuver, three sideline Vans’ legs shrink in terms of length, pooling it all into the attacking Van’s legs. In doing so, the pair elongate to about six feet, allowing Van’s legs to reach a distant opponent where he rests his feet upon their shoulders and clamps around their head securely. Then, the aforementioned three Vans’ legs diminish in width as well, accumulating into the attacking Van’s legs to bulk them up considerably. Attaining an adequate amount of strength through this method, hoisting his upper body up through a handstand, Van whips his legs into the air with the opponent in tow. Ahh, how did I not notice this? Given that everything still looks kosher, I'm going to say flagged. The techniques are all low ranked, but really, they're mostly all very simple maneuvers that look fancy because two people are doing them. Welcome back me matey!
