Ash Island; a literal ash island it was, in more than name. The large volcano -the KuroCano it was called- in the center of the island erupts nearly everyday, but due to some unknown natural phenomena it erupts only ash, an event which the residents were more than used to by now. Indeed, the place was more black than night, with the streets and houses literally coated in the stuff, but with broad avenues running through the ash, so people could get around. Not only because of this common event was Ash Island a place to visit though, as every three years an annual competition was held, with an unknown prize and even an unknown draw of what would happen in said competition. Thus, it was difficult to tell how many people would show up for this event, and though it only took place over a single day, it was usually brutal... As the Wyvern pulled into the port at Ash Island, it was evident to see that the gathering that Theodore had mentioned on their way in was starting to begin. The port was near full to bursting, and it was lucky that the Nova Pirates were able to get a place, as the majority of the port was tied up with all kinds of ships, be they civilian/merchant vessels, smuggler ships, a pair of Marine ships and even some other Pirate-esque ships. "Woah," Theodore said to his crew as they pulled in, now fully dressed again he was healing up, but his left shoulder was still tender, "I didn't realise the Ash Island competition was this big. Last time I heard it was like eight people who entered it, this time it's gotta be more like one hundred. Still, we'll find out more on the island I assume..." Even as they disembarked from their boat -Theodore looking around surreptitiously to make sure no enterprising Marines were nearby to try to arrest them already- a short man -little more than a boy in reality- scampered up to them and forced a large red posted into Theodore's hands, and smaller copies into the hands of his crewmates. "The Ash Island competition is today!" he squeaked in a rat-like voice, "So join up! It's only groups of two though, so you guys can split, right?" Without allowing a word in though the guy scurried away, harrassing a pair of people almost as soon as he was away from them. "How weird," Theodore said to his friends, "but maybe an interesting way to find some new Nakama, no? What does this sheet say?" The poster was short and to the point, and was rather easy to figure out what it meant, as it kind of blatantly stated it outright: TODAY! TODAY ONLY! THE ASH ISLAND COMPETITION BEGINS! JOIN IN GROUPS OF TWO AND SEE IF YOU CAN BE THE BEST DUO OF THE DAY! PRIZES WONT BE KNOWN UNTIL YOU WIN, SO BE CAREFUL WHO YOU PICK! RANDOM EVENTS! ALL DAY LONG! ITS A TOURNAMENT! SO JOIN! "How obnoxiously written," Theodore said after he finished reading it out loud, shaking his head at the gall of people to state things so weakly, "so do you think we might find some people who would be worth asking to join our crew in this event then? Or should we enter and try and claim the prizes for ourselves?" ((OOC: So I suppose two of us will enter and we'll face off against some NPCs, then find a PC who's awesome and ask them to join us? After the long journey from Saint Reia, the Wyvern finally reached Ash Island safely. Sally is sitting inside the kitchen with her navigators equipments on the table looks at Ash Island through the window of the ship. Sally slowly packs up her equipments, with Leon sitting on her shoulder camouflaging with Sally’s cloak, as she heads out of the kitchen. “Well Leon we have arrived at Ash Island, this looks like your first island visit aside from Saint Reia.” Sally said as she walks towards the side of the ship looking at Ash Island. “Yes Leon, you are a pirate now so you are free.” Sally added. The Wyvern pull port on Ash Island as Sally looked at the numerous people gathered on the island. All types of people are here, from marines to pirates, it seem that the event really do pull all sort of people to the Island. “Woah," Theodore said to his crew as they pulled in, now fully dressed again he was healing up, but his left shoulder was still tender, "I didn't realise the Ash Island competition was this big. Last time I heard it was like eight people who entered it, this time it's gotta be more like one hundred. Still, we'll find out more on the island I assume..." “I wonder what kind of prize this competition has, to gather this many people here.” Sally said to herself walking off the ship right behind Theodore. “Well anyway, we must maintain a low profile so those marines won’t chase us before we can win the competition. Hi, hi.” Sally jokingly said as she giggles. Before they could walk any further a short man went to them and hands over a poster to them. “What the heck is this?” Sally thought out loud holding the paper as the man leaves them eventually. The poster was short and to the point, and was rather easy to figure out: TODAY! TODAY ONLY! THE ASH ISLAND COMPETITION BEGINS! JOIN IN GROUPS OF TWO AND SEE IF YOU CAN BE THE BEST DUO OF THE DAY! (OOC I like Evan's idea of having a little twist on the competition. Maybe the competition is like a coverup for something  ) |

Cirrus said after reading the sheet. 'I offer to be a scout. I promised I wouldn't cause any trouble.' Cirrus said as he had no interest in the tournament. Cirrus's aim to the ash island was to take a look at the town that was made of flawless pebbles. For some reason, Cirrus wasn't in his usual competitive mood. 'Or perhaps I will guard the Wyvern?' Cirrus asked his captain. “A competition?” Sally thought as her eyes slowly sparkles. “Well if this is a competition about being the strongest count me in! I want to know how much I have grown since I left Dawn Island. This will be a good opportunity for me to protect the innocent.” Sally said with an excited loud tone. 'Wait, how do you protect the innocent during a competition?' Cirrus joked. For some reason, Cirrus just wasn't himself that day. |

Sally looks back at Cirrus with sparkling eyes, “Well can’t you see, during a competition strong people will gather there to compete. If I can do an awesome performance in competing then people will get excited with the competition. If people get excited with the competition then more people will watch the competition. If more people watch the competition then the crime rate will drop. When the crime rate drops then no people will get hurt meaning protecting the innocent.” Sally said with an excited tone. Sally seems to be so excited that her logic is the only thing she can think of in her own little world. |

Rook wasn't too impressed or enthusiastic about the hope Theo was putting into finding a new crewmate. "so do you think we might find some people who would be worth asking to join our crew in this event then? Or should we enter and try and claim the prizes for ourselves?" "Don't hold your breath waiting for a new nakama. If this is a team event no one participating would have come alone." Rook reminded his captain. "Seeing as the tournament could be anything under the sun, a grappler arm is more versatile than either a sword or a tonfa. I mean look at this place; there is nothing interesting other than the tournament happening here. The faster we win the tournament, the faster we can leave." |

Sighing heavily, Theodore eyed each of his friends in turn. Sally seemed enthusiastic -a good thing- but she also seemed over-eager to be in this. While that was good, and she was more than handy in a fight, she might also make the mistake of going ahead too fast and maybe forget to watch those behind her. In his mind Theodore had already chosen her to enter, and Cirrus' words immediately took him out. What was up with that guy today? He just wasn't acting himself; normally it was playful banter, not assholish comments. Still, Rook's words -and tone- added him (of course) as the other competitor in the competition without any seconds hesitation in Theo's mind, and so he began to weigh Sally and Rook up, to see if they'd work out together. They would. "Of course I'm not basing all our hopes for new Nakama on this competition," he said exasperatedly to Rook, "but it's the best -and most obvious- idea we've got at the moment isn't it? Besides, how would you feel about entering with Sally? Maybe have a shot at going for this prize? I'll go scout out the town, Cirrus since you obviously don't have your heart set on it, why don't you stay and guard the ship? After I'm done scouting the town, I'll come over to the tournament grounds -it wont be hard to find, it's the big open area in the middle of the town- I'll come and watch, see what's really going on. The poster is a little too up-front and "believe me! believe me please!" for me to actually go along with it 100%, no?" The main issue at the moment was that Theodore was injured. So even if the tournament turned out to be bogus -which he was suspecting it was- he wouldn't be able to do much to help them, as he couldn't really move his right arm fully yet. What's more, he would probably pass out if he fought for longer than like two minutes, the amount of blood he lost on Saint Reia was staggering, and he was only up and about because of sheer willpower. By all rights he should be in bed recovering, but since he was the Captain -technically, they all did a bit of everything really- he had to go with them; the Captain went down with his ship and -in Theo's mind- went down with his crew's shenanigans. You might get hurt when the fighting starts.” Sally said to her shoulder as Leon slowly appears from his camouflage. “So who will take care of Leon while we are in the competition?” Sally said while looking at both Theodore and Cirrus with puppy dog eyes. “So Leon behave with them while I’m not with you, and it’s not right to bite people if you are jealous and can’t come with me.” Sally said as she hold Leon on her hands. |

'Sure, I will kill some time. Maybe I will have a few glasses of rum too.' Cirrus said happily. After hearing that Rook and Sally were going to be participating in the Ash Island Competition, Cirrus added, 'I might come and cheer for you guys later.' 'It will be good to have some free time of my own.' Cirrus thought with a grin. He wanted to have a stroll in the town and just and have some fun. 'So far, there hadn't been any sign of any marine on this island, so it is likely to be safe to leave the ship there. Cirrus thought as Sally started to say something. “So who will take care of Leon while we are in the competition?” Sally said while looking at both Theodore and Cirrus with puppy dog eyes. “So Leon behave with them while I’m not with you, and it’s not right to bite people if you are jealous and can’t come with me.” Sally said as she hold Leon on her hands. 'I can look after that little thing. But just don't expect me to feed it.' Cirrus said. 'Look at that chameleon. It shouldn't be that hard to look after it.' Cirrus thought looking at Leon in Sally's hands. |

Anything out of place and I'm heading straight back to the ship." he informed his captain casually. ~Set-up or not, the can't be the only pirates here participating. Leon suddenly hissed at Cirrus as if he understood Cirrus’ intentions of not feeding him. “Now Leon, behave yourself; I want you to watch over him and see to it he doesn’t do anything weird okay.” Sally said to Leon as he tries to behave in front of Sally. Leon climb on Cirrus’s shoulder when Sally says her goodbye, as soon as Sally stops looking Leon quick hissed at Cirrus before changing color and blending with Cirrus’s cloth. "I'm fine with that." Rook remarked. "I don't care about winning, as long as there's a rewards at the end of it. Don't dawdle to too long or you might miss us. Anything out of place and I'm heading straight back to the ship." he informed his captain casually. Sally returns to her excited look as she stares at Rook. “Come on Rook, lighten up! Where’s your competition spirit.” Sally said as she tries to give her spirit to Rook while grabbing his hands. “Also what do you mean about not caring about winning? If you are going to join the competition you should go for the gold then aim for the top and win! Win! Win!” Sally shouted as she points towards the direction of the competition area. |

| "I only care about reward." Rook replied honestly and casually to Sally. "If second place is nice enough, I'm not pushing myself for a slightly better prize. It's a great moral to keep. You appreciate winning is more than just coming first." he added, believing his words to be profound enough to hide how much he just didn't really care. |

Shrugging as Cirrus volunteered to look after Leon -Theodore actually wanted to spend some time with the little guy, but since Cirrus spoke first- he shook his head ruefully at Rook, especially at what he had said. "There shouldn't be much trouble from Marines here," he said to the man, who was obviously as worried about the bounty's they'd received as he was, until they reached Ash Island anyway, "This island is more of a pirate paradise than anywhere else; pirates usually come here to re-stock and relax for a bit, before heading off for bigger and better islands. This place is more of a... waypoint for journeys. The most we'll have to worry about is a rookie Bounty Hunter; except for you guys in the competition that is." Grinning, he swirled suddenly, not letting his crewmates see his wince as it jarred his shoulder slightly, and let his coat billow out slightly as he did. "Come on then you guys," he said to the trio behind him, "let's start then. I'll go check out the town, see who's who and what's what, and then meet you guys at the arena. The event shouldn't start yet -midday is the custom here and it's a good hour and a half until then at best- but I'll be less than an hour and when I arrive we'll talk and see what's up. I do agree with the idea to split if things get too messy," he made an annoyed face -he didn't want trouble just yet either- "but a small amount of fuss isn't enough to just leave over. The prize could be awesome for all we know!" Without a backwards glance he started off, waving over his shoulder to his friends. He could understand all their attitudes at the moment, regardless of what he actually said -even Cirrus, though he had no idea what was going on there, he was usually more upbeat than this- but he kind of preferred Sally's way of looking at it. Introvert though he preferred to be; competitive he definitely was, and if this competition did turn hairy well... he'd been wounded and gotten into fights before! Whistling as he headed towards the town, the first place Theodore was going to go to was to find the local doctor... ((OOC: OK, Evan I suppose once Jake starts doing whatever he's gonna do on the ship you can try to rob us; Zouly would you be amiss to being a doctor in town and Theodore coming to visit you? And Gas: I don't know if you've edited your character yet, but how do you want to get in on this?)) |

OOC: Sorry about this OOC post, but Gas could be applying for the tourney in his own team, but suffered some sort of mishap/sabotage by the reigning 'champs'. When Rook gets wind of that, he'll offer up his position to Gas to see if he can out smart the saboteurs in the shadows. (All strategic and counter-spy like.)

'I shouldn't have been such a big mouth and offers to take care of that little thing.' Cirrus thought as he tried to grab Leon from his back. After Cirrus grabbed Leon in his left hand, he increased his pace to the port of Ash Island. 'Good to be back here.' Cirrus muttered as he boarded the Wyvern. 'I got to find a place to put Leon. I can't afford to let him run around the Wyvern.' Cirrus said as he could find a cage or something. After searching around the ship, Cirrus couldn't find any cages. In the end, he tied a rope around Leon's neck and the other end to a table leg. 'Good, now I will have to find something to do for the next one and a half hour.' Cirrus said as he helped himself to a mug of rum. 'Perhaps I need to think of a few more attack techniques. It is true that I have been stronger, but I need a much more awesome finishing move.' then Cirrus drew his katana cutting the air in front of him as he tried to think up some new moves. |
