Devil Fruit
Devil Fruit © One Piece Explore 2008 - 2009

One of the easiest ways to increase a character's power is through the use of Akuma no Mi, or Devil Fruit, abilities. This site uses a combination of canonical and original devil fruit of all variety to provide players with a selection as broad and customizable as the character creation system itself.

There are three kinds of Devil Fruit in the OP canon, and those are the only variety that will be used in this RP. Fan variants such as "Angel Fruit" and "Dark Devil Fruit" etc. will not be permitted. The three varieties are:

Paramecia - These fruits grant superhuman abilities and are based on an object/substance or an idea/concept. Traditionally, these devil fruits grant thematic, rather than literal, powers. Paramecia can be further subdivided into fruits which affect the body and fruits which do not.

Zoan - This category includes all fruits which grant the user a specific set of animal forms. They come in many varieties, though all typically follow the same set of rules in terms of base forms. Though rare "ancient" types are known to exist, which allow the user access to forms of extinct animals, and there is "mythological" types that are extremely rare.

Logia - The simplest and most powerful fruit, Logia allow the users to become and control an element. Though sometimes these elements are primary elements (such as Fire) they may be more abstract forms of matter as well (such as sand). They do not allow control of a given element in any other state than the one it's in (i.e. ice does not control water, etc.).

Devil Fruit Tiers

There is no official ranking for Devil Fruits, but this site uses a "Tier" system. A Devil Fruit's "Tier" describes it's potential for power. The lower number a tier the fruit belongs to, the stronger it is.

1st Tier - Logia of destructive energy elements and paramecia that are impossible to defend against. Mythical Zoans with extraordinary effects. Examples: Goro Goro no Mi, Pika Pika no Mi.

2nd Tier - Logia of non-destructive energy, logia of destructive matter, and any paramecia with extremely abstract effects. Mythical Zoans with some unique abilities. Examples: Hie Hie no Mi, Kage Kage no Mi.

3rd Tier - Logia of non-destructive matter, or Paramecia with effects that allow the user to accomplish things of extreme scale or that have profound, permanent effects, and regular Mythical Zoans. Examples: Moku Moku no Mi, Hito Hito no Mi: Minotaur

4th Tier - Paramecia with very powerful but straightforward effects, ancient-type Zoans. Examples: Supa Supa no Mi, Drake's Zoan.

5th Tier - Paramecia with simple effects or weak abstract effects, as well as most zoans. Examples: Gomu Gomu no Mi, Neko Neko no Mi

6th Tier - Paramecia with very weak simple effects or abstract effects with very limited, minimal use, or zoans of animals with very little potential. Examples: Yomi Yomi no Mi, Hito Hito no Mi.

Starting Devil Fruit

The devil fruits players may begin with, either as a result of the Custom or Random DF traits, are always from the bottom three tiers. While a custom fruit may only be a 5th or 6th, players who roll randomly may occasionally garner a 4th Tier fruit, though never a 6th.

By saving Traits as one gains them, players may eventually gain fruits of higher tiers. The cost, in traits, of any given fruit is determined by the Administration, though a basic guideline may help players determine if the wait is worth it to them. It may seem like a big cost, but I've deduced the numbers. If you're a great RPer, a 4th would take you only 6 great story lines. And a 3rd only 10 great ones, which is about the same amount it takes to be in the Grandline or somewhere in the early areas. Now for 2nd and 1st Tier, if you have the patience for those... well I commend you.

Tier - Traits
1st - 7
2nd - 6
3rd - 5
4th - 4
5th - 3

Player-Created Devil Fruit

Sometimes, the Devil Fruit available, both canon and custom, will not suit the needs or desires a new player has for their character. In this case, it is possible for the player to create a custom devil fruit for the new character.

Myth Zoans must now be faithful to their legend. Meaning they can not have altered abilities or appearances to fit with the member’s personal preference. They must come from an actual myth and be faithful to the Legend.

Fruits should be designed with the "feel" of One Piece in mind. While zoan fruits may basically be designed with any real-world (or standard OP world) animal in mind, Paramecia are a bit trickier.

The main thing to remember when designing a paramecia is "theme". A paramecia is not "power produce", it is not a piece of fruit that gives you a super power. It represents the idea of an object/substance or concept, and it's powers are applied thematically.

That said, there are staff members available who will work with players to help them design the devil fruit that is ideal for them. If you cannot find one that suits your character, simply contact any Character Moderator or Administrator about developing a custom fruit.

Understanding the Tiers

When trying to determine a Paramecia's tier, try to keep several factors in mind.

- Offensive Potential: How powerful are the attacks granted? What is the range?
- Defensive Potential: How strong is the defense granted? Is it always active, or is it passive? Is it applied to the whole body, or only certain parts?
- Support Potential: How useful is this in terms of buffing/debuffing? Can it increase ally's strength or make foes have a harder time defending against/avoiding attacks?
- Utility Potential: How many out-of-combat uses does the fruit have?

Every fruit has some value in each of these categories. The more value the fruit has in a category, the stronger the fruit is. The presence of high values in more than one category is usually a good indication of tier; let's take some of our examples.

1T - Goro Goro
- OP: Very high. You are freaking lightning. Can electrocute people, can send out super-fast lightning bolts.
- DP: High. People get electrocuted when they touch your body (when you 'phase'.)
- SP: High. People have a hard time dodging your attacks because, Lightning speed. Can add lightning to your body and become living electricity.

- DP: High. Can use smoke to cover oneself or turn into smoke.
- SP: High. Smoke can disorient enemies and provide cover.
- UP: Medium. Can fly if you turn into smoke, can go in small passages, etc.

Character Limit Devil Fruits

According to One Piece wiki “Devil Fruits are said to be the fruits of the Sea Devil and that the secret to their power is hidden in the Grand Line. Because encounters with them are rare (especially outside the Grand Line) a number of rumors about them have risen making it difficult to tell whether some things are fact or fiction.”

You can only have 1 devil fruit which fits one of or more of the following categories: Logia, Myth, T1 and T2. Members who currently have two or more fruits which fit into any of the aforementioned categories will not have a fruit confiscated, but once an offending character's fruit is removed it cannot be reattained until the other, current fruit is relinquished.

Inanimate Object with Devil Fruit as characters

Characters that will be made from inanimate objects only to be given the Hito Hito no mi or any other Devil Fruit of the kind, will need to have the administrators’ approval on it. The inanimate object will be judged and analysed if it’s acceptable. There might be some :beli: requirements or DP requirements on the said inanimate object if the administrator said so.

Zoan Boost
There are three types of Zoans: Normal Zoans, Ancient Zoans and Mythical Zoans. Each of these have their own Tier and bonus.
Zoan Table
Types TiersTraits Bonus at Rank 4
Normal T53 +10
Ancient T44 +15
Mythical T1-T35 - 7 +20

Logia Passive Intangibility
Normally a logia user needs to have some warnings so they could go into their intangible form to protect themselves. One can gain an auto intangibility one they get their base Logia technique to Rank 35.

Random Devil Fruit Roll
Random Devil Fruit is limited once per account, so if your character already has one then you cannot have another roll. Due to this there are times when you don’t want the fruit your rolled so this is where this rule kicks in. After the initial roll, there is a three months wait before you can have another roll. Its either this or you are stuck with what you rolled.

Paramecia Stat Boost
There are certain Paramecia fruits that give the user a boost in a single status only. At Rank 4, the boost is +5. It goes up by 1 every single rank higher than 4; similar to that of a Zoan boost, except it is one stat only.
