Someone described us the other day as "that band with the quirky name". So - we thought it might be worthwhile to say a word or two about how we got it (in as much as we can remember!). John and I started the band with Andy and George shortly after our previous band Evangeline had split. We talked a lot about the direction that we wanted to head, and a band that we kept on talking about was Matchbox Twenty - still very much a favourite of ours (and a band who recognise their roots in the south). Shortly after our formation I went to bed one night, and not being the greatest sleeper I was lying playing a number of things through my mind, no doubt including the form of the name "Matchbox Twenty". I also thought a lot about our ages - we ain't the youngest, and we're not overly impressed at how youth seems to correlate with massive musical success much more than experience does ... Anyways - it struck me then that John and I share the same age for one day a year - we have birthdays on successive days (starting tomorrow in fact). The most fun example of that was when we were in Nashville one summer, and I turned 40 the day before John turned 41. "OneDay40" just plain fell out of that thought process .... but ... Since then we've used the expression as a retort to those who think age is a bad thing - we love to point out the inevitability of people younger than us also being "OneDay40" .... So - that's the story. Some folks write it as "One Day40" but we like it without the spaces ... OneDay40. Rambling over!! Peace and Love, B |
