Progress in running sometimes takes time. But, the key is sticking with it. Build a foundation or base of training miles that's appropriate to the race distance you're aiming for. Then start mixing in specific workouts that will improve your running efficiency. Steady paced running will make you a one pace runner. This is where having a training partner or group comes in handy. Also, research training schedules that look "do-able"
