A bit of a spur the moment thing this, Ive decided to watch MSG again (getting ready for origin perhaps?) And Ive decided this time I'm going to review each Ep by it self. But I cba with making this seriously so Ive decided to do it basically to point out things I find stupid/strange about it. I'm also going to review it as if Ive never watched the show before. I'm also trying to enjoy this so there will be a lot of bad jokes and maybe even flaming cause thats just fun.

Episode 1 Gundam Rising

Well here it is the first episode of MSG the show that started it all, things open up with the Theme song Fly Gundam! Despite it sounding more like Gundamu I quite liked the theme, it shows that they at least came up with a song for the show rather then just grabbing a random song and throwing it in as they will latter.

Anyway enough the show starts 8 months into the One Year War and the show explains how bad its been and so on that the Earth and Zeon are now in a stalemate, fair enough. Anyway moving to the story it begins with 3 Zaku II Zeon Mobile Suits landing on the side of a Colony (Side 7) and then using huge Mobile Suit sized dials to get inside…. Wait, why is there Mobile Suit sized dials on the side of a Federation Colony since the Federation don’t have MS yet? But there there so lets just run with it. Two of the Zaku’s head into the colony while the other stands guard of the exit, the two Zeon guys then begin doing some recon and notice the place is empty apparently during rush hour, how do they know its rush hour? Anyway they spot Frau Bow who is driving at the age of 15 go figure. Oh yes and HARO!

Frau heads into Amuros apparently unlocked house. Amuro has eaten it seems and Frau finds him in his room tinkering with machines. As Frau nags Amuro we find out that Amuro has missed an evacuation order because he has been to absorbed in doing what ever he’s been doing. Frau continues to shout at Amuro in the most annoying fashion as we see Hayato for the first time; Hayato is apparently Amuros best friend but acts more like he hates the guys guts. We also find out that Amuro is a “hopeless case” and that his father could be on some warship that is coming in. While nothing interesting is happening what kind of name is Frau Bow? Or Amuro for that matter?

We now move on to the Earth Federation guys how are taking about “White Base” the most imaginative name ever “its white lets call it white base!” then we hear “ We should be able to break the Zeon easy with this!” one ship yes this makes sense in real war! Sad thing is, he might as well be right. We finally get to see White Base and its not even all White, there Red and Yellow and a bit of Blue. PERFECT Camouflage! Why is it called white base surly Muli-coloured Base is far more accurate. Moving on before this ship gives me a headache we next see Amuros Purple haired dad Tem Ray and also Bright who has been in the EF for 6 months and has been assigned to the Federations Top Secret Weapon, he’s either very unlucky or he lucked out can’t really tell.

Naturally the very well hidden White Base has been followed by a Zeon ship, WELL this is what you get for colouring your space ship BRIGHT WHITE, also if there were followed how come the Zaku’s are inside already? Moving swiftly on we get to see the Zeon Musai Class ship attempting to hid behind a meteor half its size and we also get to see the man with one of the worst mask fashion senses ever Char Aznable, who on his way home from a mission was bright enough to spot the HUGE WHITE space ship and follow it. Naturally he already knows that this belongs to the Federations Top Secret V Project which is to make Mobile Suits. One of his lackeys seems to think the colony is to remote for them to be making weapons! Because obviously there going to make them right in front of you >_>.

One of the Zeon guys in the colony then gets board of taking pictures for the Zeon scrap book and decides to attack against his commanders orders. He begins destroying the unassembled EF MS and the shockwaves from the explosions reach Amuro who is in a bunker with Frau, Amuro in genius fashion notes its no an earthquake so they have to be explosions. WHY would a colony have an Earthquake >_>. Amuro then runs outside is nearly killed by a Zaku’s Machine gun round falling before jumping in the bright red car and driving off, At least it should be 3 X faster.

Armuro runs into some EF guys before they are hit with a missile, I think I missed where this came from since Zaku’s are missing missile launchers, Friendly fire? However thankfully the Bibl- I mean manual for the Gundam lands undamaged from the explosion right in front of Amuro who is quite panicked from seeing the EF Guys been blown up in his face. Amuro then notes the V Manual is classified and begins looking at the Gundam diagrams inside. Because its such a good idea to sit in the middle of a battlefield and read it because this is a smart thing to do.

While the Zaku’s continue to kill things the people from the bunker have got out and are now heading somewhere que more “Amuro! Amuro! Amuro! Amuro! Amuro! Amuro! Amuro!” From Frau. Amuro meets his dad who is trying to get the Gundam onto White Base before the refuges Amuro shouts at him and he tells Amuro to be quite and get to White Base, because Amuro is meant to know what White Base is how? Either way Amuro then spots the huge Gundam right next to him so he stands still opens the book and nearly gets killed again. Frau comes back, again spamming Amuro before she is nearly hit be an explosion. Shame. However it did kill her whole family leaving her in quite a sorry state after getting a slap from Amuro she goes off and falls over. After Amuro has a bit of a cry.. “To the Bat cave! I mean Gundam!” and runs off towards the GundamU. Because this is what anyone would do run towards the huge military weapon.

The cockpit is conveniently open for him and he jumps right in. Amuro then is surprised to notice that the Gundam’s insides looks just like the Manual, no shit Sherlock what did you expect. Also what kind of man uses a manual really XD. After closing the cockpit he then switches it on, before been seen by the Zaku, Amuro panics and randomly presses buttons, now he’s learning, and fires his Vulcan guns badly. Naturally the fully trained Zeon soldier is scared by the fact he was shot at and backs off, but then fires his Machine gun at him hitting the cockpit dead on.

However Amuro is saved by the Gundam’s armour of invulnerability. Amuro finally mangers to stand up by randomly pulling sticks while shouting “Please Get up!”. He then locks on and fires the Vulcan guns badly and the Zaku returns fire equally as badly before Amuro runs out of ammo. Amuro panics but manages to take advantage of the Zeon’s stupidity and deals some good damage by ripping off its mask and main camera. The Zaku trys to run away but Amuro finds the Beam saber button and cuts the Zaku in half causing a huge explosion that rips a hole in the colony and sending Tem Ray into Space. BAD END, before the hole is covered by random junk, funny how this never happens in other Gundam shows. Amuro then figures that he can’t hit the reactor of the other Zaku or he might take out the colony, come on it wasn’t that big a hole. Then in pure Zeon smarts the other Zaku charges at Amuro latterly no shooting or even drawing a heat hawk, it just runs at him then it jumps and trys to kick and Amuro sticks the Beam saber though the cockpit and luckily misses the reactor.

However just then Char begins to attack firing missiles at the Colony, Char apparently made a mistake of his youth, not sure how or what he did, but it was a mistake of his youth. Anyway the show’s first Episode comes to a close now and we get the Ending theme, its…. Not terrible and its themed which is a plus.

Anyway the first episode comes to a close and it wasn’t bad, it set out the war and whats happening and we saw the Gundam, however Frau is highly annoying here with her 3 Amuros a second, Amuro himself hasn’t shown much to stand out yet, we just know he likes to read and he likes machines a LOT. Char is established as the bad guy and ace pilot. The Shows throws out plenty of Super Robot clichés but none are really bad and some bits are just plain strange. Animation is dated but it's not that hard to watch despite been pre 1980

6/10 thanks to Frau....

Episode 2 Destroy Gundam

wait isn't that a mobile suit name......

anyhow things open up with those missiles that impact the colony causing a hole that is soon plugged up with what can only be described as bubble gum. Civilians are quickly been transported to White Base as Char continues to attack. One attack almost gets Fau with shrapnel but unfortunately Amuro moves the Gundam's hand in the way. Naturally Fau is surprised to hear Amuro's voice coming from the large red, white and blue Mobile suit but now is not the time to ask questions and she does what she's told and takes people to White Base. Unfortunately the captain of the White base is damaged by shrapnel from a missile attack just before a cadet takes his place.

Back on the Musai Char has received a report from the only guy to come back from the recon team, however why's his arm in a sling? It's been a while since I watched the first episode but I can't recall him doing anything but sitting there.... moving on Char finds the report hard to believe concerning the Gundam's power and wants to get in touch with vice admiral Dozle.

Back on White Base... Fau has found 3 kids and is about to go looking for there parents when she is called by another woman to go help the wounded captain who seems to be in pain. Char has stopped attacking it seems and the fedi's think he's not going to attack again for a while. Bright comes in asking whats wrong like he can't see the dude is looking like a mummy with all the bandages around him. Anyway seems the Fedi's show just how tough they are in that there whole defense force including every soldier and engineer on Side 7 has been wiped out.... by 2 Zaku's and a few missiles..... how did these guys make it this far again? ANyhow gotta make do, so the captain says to get all Gundam parts on board as soon as, thankfully Amuro is currently in a Gundam and is moving the Guncannon and Guntank parts on anyway. Captain tells bright to get White Base away from Side 7 as soon as loading is done, as for who is going to pilot the large ship a random woman called Mirai Yashima volunteers to pilot the ship out of port, apparently the captain recognizes the family name too...

Char talks with Dozle who's not impressed with Char not turning up to a victory party but is then impressed with him findign the V project and agrees to resupply him, though he's not happy Char lost 3 Zaku's...He also wants Char to capture the Gundam. Wanting to stay 2 or 3 moves a head Char decides to send out a 4 man recon team into Side , including himself. Seems Char has his own stlish space suit as well as uniform....

Back on White Base Mirai is getting to grips with the White base control system while Bright gets in contact with the Gundam. Bright isn't to impressed with the fact Amuro is just a kid piloting the Gundam. Everyone is shocked that a kid is piloting the Gundam, Mirai notes that Amuro is pretty famous on Side 7 as a "techno freak". Amuro blames him been able to take out the 2 Zaku's on the Gundam ability and not his own. And Bright says he'll remove him but the captain questions if they even have another pilot. Amuro then loads the cute little Guntank onto White Base as Fau and the girl from before head out to find other survivors, there they meet another guys who has been hiding out during all the commotion . poor guy gets a slap for "been a coward and hiding and not helping people" sorry but you were they girl who was down stairs in the fortified base while he was out in the colony alone. Anyway he says that the girls name is Sayla after another mouth full the girls leave and when asked he helps a nearby soldier with a wounded person.

Back outside Char's team 9without Mobile Suits) reach the colony where he signals for the Musai to blow huge holes in the colony as a distraction, letting Char sneak in though a maintenance air lock. The Captain of the White Base then decides it would be better to destroy any parts of the V-Project they haven't already got on board and also orders Bright to give the Gundam a Beam rifle, it's not like they haven't had kid soldiers before after all. Desperate times i suppose. Bright tells Amuro to destroy the Gundam parts... then asks him how to do it... wait aren't YOU the soldier here dude? Anyway Amuro says they could use the Napalm, the captain agrees.

Fau and Sayla mean while are out looking for people, Fau gets all teary thinking about the past while Sayla spots Char's lovely red space suit jumping around. She grabs a gun an d goes to check things out. Char is busy taking photo's of destroyed Guncannon parts when she confronts him. Char easily knows she's no soldier but is then surprised that she looks like someone he knows, she tell his to remove his helmet and he does..... wut the masked villain shows his face in episode 2! talk about getting things over and done with... sorry Ive just lost all interest in this guy, I mean your not meant to take your mask off this quick! That defeats the purpose! Anyway his face shocks Sayla enough that he can do a super (Char)kick somehow despite him not been anywhere close to her 3 secs ago. Char thinks she looks like Artesia but she's much to strong.... Just then GUNDAM shows up and Char runs, since a kick isn't gonna work on that. Sayla meanwhile thinks that he might be her brother. Amuro says he's gonna use the SUPER napalm, because normal Napalm just isn't cool enough. Amuro gets Sayla to lie in his hand while he fire's his rifle burning the remaining parts.

As they are going back to port, Char see's his chance and flys in first, bright gets a bit panicky and the captain tells him to give guns to everyone and for them to destroy the Zeon soldier. Char flys thought he port taking pics while been shot at by people, including hayato using laser rifles! But they all suck at aiming until Bright comes out and nails the camera. Char then uses some nice Grenade throwing skills to take out a few doors in his way and his team retreats. Amuto however then comes out in Gundam and starts firing but has a hard time shooting people. The Musai meanwhile sends out two Zaku's one is all red, no points for guessing who that one is for.

White Base prepares to launch and hayato and Salya seem to be getting taught how to use different stations. A cadet from earlier named Ryu stands by in a core fighter but with only two simulators as his experience Bright isn't hopefully then again bright knows it's more then Amuro had. Amuro is able to take out 2 missiles before they hit White Base but then 2 Zaku's are closing except one is moving at 3X's normal speed! The captain instantly knows this means it's Char the Red Comet who took out 5 battleships at some Battle before. Time to make a run for it i guess....

Sure enough Char is inside his Red Zaku and speeding at White Base after he has taken off his Space suit of course, can't have the Red Comet be fighting in a normal Space suit. Amuro trys to hit him, but Char is too fast using quick boosts that would put later shows Mobile Suits to shame. However Char's not having that easy a time when his direct hit causes fuck all damage. Amuro starts panicking ad firing. Char is impressed with the speed of the Gundam and asks Slender to back him up . Slender seems a bit scared of the Gundam rifle having never seen a Beam rifle before, Char however doesn't really care what it is as long as he doesn't get hit by it. The two continue to hit the Gundam but still the things armour holds no problem. Thanks to some back up from the Core Fighter Amuro is able to score a direct hit taking out Slenders Zaku in 1 shot. Char shits himself at the power of the rifle and Amuro is equally amazed he took it out in 1 shot. Char pulls back knowing he has little chance of matching the Gundam, thankfully for him Amuro has used up all the Beam rifles shots so also has to pull back.

Amuro comes up to the Bridge and everyone seems happy to see him, though bright gives him a bit of advice to stop relying on Gundam's power and use his brain a bit more. Amuro is a bit speechless at having to fight again but bright tells him the situation nice and clear including to either obey his orders or go back to Side 7. how nice... Anyway Bright doesn't seem to want to be friendly with Amuro but puts him in charge of Gundam. White Base then heads to Luna 2 a supply asteroid and federation front line base.

Well thats it, this episode pretty much introduced most of the rest of the main characters and also gave us a few hidden mysteries like Sayla and Char's relationship. Bright and AMuro seem to get off on the wrong foot but mainly because bright is just been a jerk. Also Amuro and Char have there first fight here, neither did that well though it was pretty much thanks to Gundam laughing at anything Char could do. Amuro is getting by right now but it's all down to Gundam and he's gonna have to step up if he wants to live.

I enjoyed this episode there was little in the way of stupid moments and Fau was infinitively less annoying, I feel sorry for Kai though...and what was up with Char's Zaku been able to flash step? 7/10

Episode 3 Vote to Attack

Things start of with a quick info dump on what Luna 2 is. Then we go inside White Base to see the captain still isn't feeling well. Fau and Sayla have both swapped into pink fedi uniforms with Fau now handing out rations with the help of 3 kids. Sayla and Bright take a lift together and Bright asks Sayla where she lived before Side 7, she says Earth and bright say's it's his first time in space Sayla makes a quick comment about Earth born elite and Bright doesn't seem to impressed. upon getting to the bridge we find out Char is still following them though he's yet to attack.

On the Musai, Char doesn't seem to happy about the supply ship thats bring him his Zaku's but only 2 not 3 Dozle just tells him to get over it. Seems Zeon's supply's are starting to run low, bad timing since the Earth forces are just starting to make Mobile Suits.

Back on White Base Amuro been the only guy not to have changed into a uniform is hard at work on Gundam. Fau note's that's he's been working none stop and that he's starting to smell and hasn't been eating, this is what happens when you give a tech freak a huge robot to look after..... Amuro just blows her off saying he's only working so hard to protect himself. Back on the bridge Mirai and Bright wonder why Char's not attacked yet, womans intuition is naturally right though and Mirai correctly says it could be because he needs supply's. Char's supply ship is then spotted but Bright isn't convinced and is worried if it has missiles (personally I'd be more worried about beam cannons but what do I know) After asking Hayato's expert thoughts, bright calls everyone to the bridge. to vote on whether to attack or not. it seems most want to attack but Bright waits till Amuro rises his hand. With that decided White Base gets ready to attack and sends out Amuro in Gundam and Ryu in the core fighter.

Back with Char, he is talking to his supplier an old guy by the name of Gadem, Char tells him to hurry up and Gadem says he knows what he's doing despite his age. Amuro and Ryu meanwhile approach, Ryu gets a bit ahead of himself but Amuro tells him to go around to the other side so they don't get blinded by the sun. Seems Amuro knows more then a cadet. Char and Gadem find something strange about the high amount of particles behind them but before they can do anything Amuro attacks with his missile launcher. Char tells Gadem to send the Zaku's out,m meanwhile the Musai is still getting attacked. Char then Tells two of his pilots to go pick up the Zaku's while he goes out in his Zaku a head. The Musai then returns fire but misses. Amuro continues to attack but Char is unable to counter thanks to the sun.

Ryu then attacks the supply ship while Char and Amuro start to fight with Char quickly gaining the upper hand, Amuro then runs out of bazooka rounds and Char deals some hand tyo hand blows before he si informed of the "Trojan Horses" arrival. The White Base now begins attacking the two Zeon ships and also Hayato and Kai appear to be manning the turrets but there having trouble hitting the ships because Ryu keeps getting in the way. man this Ryu is thinker then the civilians. Meanwhile Amuro is getting schooled by Char in how melee combat should be done in a Mobile Suit. however Char is need back with he Musai as there are under heavy fire from the rest of the White Base. Hayato then asks Bright if he and Kai can pilot the Guntank since the enemy is to distracted by White Base. Bright oks it.

Back at the battle Ryu flys at the Supply ships hanger and takes out some people. Gadem survives however and the Musai finally begins to fire back with eh Mega particle cannons. This makes Bright panic and start shouting at Kai and Hayato to launch. Mirai tell him to calm down and finally Kai and Hayato launch. The Guntank rumbles forward Kai complains and Hayato acts all serous and then fires hitting the supply ship as a Zaku is getting pushed out. Gedem then uses an old Zaku I to push the other Zaku II out of the ship as well just as the supply ship goes down in flames. With the Zaku's floating in space there piltos are ordered to get to them but Ryu trys to stop them only to be attacked by Char.

Amuro then shows up, and at the sight of the Gundam Gadem rushs towards it, Char trys to stop him but Gadem says he's fought more battles than Char and knows how destroy the Gundam in 1 move..... a shoulder ram..... yep he's senile even so Amuro attacks to quickly and Gadem gets a ram in...that knocks Amuro around a bit before Amuro sticks his Beam Saber on the Zaku's armour. as The Zaku malfunctions, gadem gets out his seat amazed at he Gundams power before he and his Zaku is blown to bits.

Bright then Calls for Amuro to pull back since they destroyed the supply ship, Amuro is about to stay but Bright tells him he has no weapons left and that Char will simply rip him to pieces without weapons(not that the weapons helped before...). Char is left to puzzle over how powerful the technology of the Gundam is and how completely rubbish the Strategy's from the new ship are. the 2 Zaku pilots FINALLY get int here machines but it's to late and they simply have to cover the rescue of the rest of the dumped supply's.

Back with White Base, Kai is mouthing off about how Combat isn't that big a deal and Bright points out it's only thanks to Amuro keeping Char away. Ryu and Amuro show up and Bright tells Amuro that he relied to much on his flanking maneuvers and that he needs to work on his combat techniques. would a "good job" kill this guy? Anyway Amuro seems to agree that bright is been a jerk and takes about one day decking him, however he soon cheers up when Fau comes by with drinks for him and Ryu. The White Base then continues to Luna 2.

this episode was more action packed then the last 2 and showed more of the White Base crew become pilots and everyone more or less having roles on the ship now. Gedem was a moron attacking the Gundam without weapons was an idiot move, no wonder the dude had been moved to supply duty. Char now acknowledges he's plainly out gunned against the Gundam for now even if he is plainly the better pilot. Bright is jerk for no apparent reason and doesn't seem that cut out to lead in any case. another pretty good episode with nothing overly bad or overly good happening. 7/10

Episode 4 Escape From Luna II

White Base finally enters Luna II hoping to drop off the civilians and get some rest however the commander of Luna II Commodore Wakkein says they can’t take Civilians thanks to Zeon Attacks. Amuro is about to go over and start something but is held back by Fau. Wakkein then says everyone will be sent to earth save for everyone who fought since they have taken control of the White Base and Gundam so they will be given a court marshal. Meanwhile White Base and Gundam will be brought under his command. Yay for the good guys… wait what? Anyway people begin to strap Gundam down commenting on how it’s badly damaged, guess the machinegun did do some good then Char. Speaking of the masked man Bright warns Wakkein that Char will attack but Wakkein says Char isn’t stupid enough to try to attack. So basically he is going to attack then.

Over on the Musei Char is amazed that they are able to get so close to the base without detection thanks to technology becoming so advanced thanks to magic particles that people are back to fighting face to face. Char again starts to wonder if Salya is his sister but again thinks her to brave even if it has been 10 years. Char then declares that they will sneak into the base with commando suits and attempt to capture the White Base and Gundam but if they can’t they will have to destroy them.

Back at the base the boys are given their rations, Bright is still angry and bangs on the door wanting to see Wakkein, Amuro tells him it won’t do any good. Kai then says they should just eat the food to keep their strength up Amuro gets a bit edgy at this again but is held back by Ryu this time who notes that Kai does have a point.

Meanwhile Char’s men reach Luna II’s hanger, Char notes there’s infer red beams in the hanger, gee I could think of a few shows that could of used these things. Char tells his men to set some mines.

Back in the room Amuro is giving everyone a lesion on why Gundam is better than a Zaku. And why is that? The infinitely better armour? The far more powerful weaponry? Nope it’s the learning computer inside that stores battle data, letting Gundam learn from past battle. Don’t get why that’s so special but whatever. Suddenly however explosions rock the base, everyone knows who that is, Char. Wakkein is surprised they never picked them up on the radar and one of his officers notes that Bright certainly called it. Wakkein then tells the Magellan class ship to launch.

However Char’s attack has also knocked out the power letting Bright and the rest escape. As the Magellan begins to launch, Bright and the rest move to the White Base where thanks to a little distraction they knock out the guards with flying knee’s to the head! Amuro is then sent to free Gundam while the rest head to take back White base. The Magellan meanwhile is about to head out when Char springs his mine trap getting the Magellan stuck and blocking the hanger bay. Bright sees this and gives orders for everyone to get White Base ready to launch while he goes down to help with Gundam.

Wakkein then sees the crew trying to free Gundam and goes down telling them to stop. Bright goes down asking Wakkein who the enemy is the Zeon or them. Wakkein doesn’t have an answer instead just telling bright he needs to follow the chain of command, Mirai says that’s fine for the soldiers but not for the civilians who shouldn’t lose their life thanks to it. The White base captain then shows up (still in a bed) saying that the White base crew simply have more experience with the White Base and Gundam then his men. This finally wins over Wakkein (kinda) who agrees to help for a change.

Amuro and Ryu launch meanwhile Char along with 2 goons I mean Zaku’s charge at them. Amuro fires at Char with his bazooka but Char dodges, thankfully Amuro has a shield this time to protect himself. Char gets in close range and uses his heat Hawk chopping the Bazooka in two. AMuro brings out the Beam saber and the two kinda sorta clash I’m not even sure what they do thanks to how badly animated this bit is. A Zaku then fires at Amuro who has to block while avoiding Char thankfully Ryu moves to attack the Zaku stopping it from targeting Amuro. The other Zaku comes trying to hit the core fighter with it’s gun but Ryu just dodges.

Back on White Base Wakkein is now on the bridge with everyone. Brigth says they have to destroy the Magellan to get out and defend the base. Wakkein agrees and has the White Base bolted down to fire the main gun.

Char and Amuro continue to fight and Amuro pulls of a nice move taking out one of the Zaku’s behind him while blocking Char. The White Base fires making pretty lights and taking out the Magellan as well as the remaining Zaku and almost hitting Char’s Musai. Char pulls back leaving Amuro amazed wondering what kind of man he is. As the White base leaves the captain finally passes away. Wakkein thankfully is left on Luna II. White Base gives the captain a burial in space and Amuro wonders where his dad is.

Well after watching this feckin episode 3 times thanks to losing my bloody review (don’t ask) I can finally say it wasn’t too bad. Amuro seems to want to fight anyone who talks while Char is still wondering about Sayla. This episode really shows the other more short-sighted side of the federation. Even still the crew seems to be working well together now and Bright was much less of a jerk in this episode. On the flip side the captain has finally died, with his wounds it was always just a matter of time and was a nice sombre note to end the episode on. That said the animation during the fight in this episode was just plain BAD and the artist in me just can’t excuse it for the sudden drop. A solid if unremarkable episode 7/10

Episode 5 Re-entry to Earth

No prizes for guessing what happens in this episode, the crew are on there way to Earth and prepares for re-entry. While Amuro fixes a toy car for a kid and we hear about Amuro's mam been on earth. Meanwhile a Federation Forces Salamis battleship captained by Lt. Reed pulls up alongside the White Base to lead it to Earth, it is to deploy a capsule with Reed in to help guide White Base though re-entry, Bright worrys about Char's ship behind them as normal. Meanwhile Char gets resupplyed again with 3 new Zaku's...getting toed by a space craft, which looks rather silly after they got a full space ship to resupply them last time. Also just noticed how red the inside of the Musai is... looks like a old villains cave but then again it kinda is... moving on Char launches with the three Zakus, and Bright sends Amuro out in the Gundam, we also see someone getting into a core fighter but never launch......

Amuro thinks he's in over his head fighting 4 Zakus but salya gives him a pep talk and he launches, Sadly this doesn't help much as despite his best efforts he can't hit any of the Zaku's with his bazooka (wheres that MAX shot stat now Amuro!!?!? joke he's not leveled up enough yet). Dren launches in a Komusai capsule from the Musai and fires missiles at the Salamis capsule. Meanwhile Kai, Ryu and Hayato start manning gun turrets without having read any manuals leaving me to wonder about how state of the art the White Base is? Amuro damages a Zaku's arm but runs out of Bazooka ammo in the process, thankfully he is able to vulcan a Zaku to death just to show how pathetic Zaku's are compared to the Gundam. Amuro then asks for the Rifle, but Salya says she can only send the "Gundam Hammer" which is just a large spiked ball on a chain (this is the future!), however Amuro has more luck as the Hammer launches in time to block a Bazooka round from Char.

Amuro continues to be distracted by Char leaving the other 3 Zaku's to harass the White Base and Salamis Capsule, damaging the Capsule and cutting Reed, after a patching the Ship up with bubble gum and his own suit with a plaster Reed agrees to come aboard White Base since his ship is to damaged. Amuro kills a Zaku with his hammer, but has his shield cut though by Char's Heat haw, it's really not much of a shield..... Char says to his remaining men that now is the time to defeat the Gundam but that just ends with one of them dead while the other attacks White Base. Reed's shuttle docks, and the ship is damaged from the attacks. Reed then gets angry at Bright for sending out Amuro for whatever daft reason. Bright tells Amuro to return but Amuro ignores the orders to chase the last Zaku. Char enters Dren's Komusai shuttle when the heat level becomes too high for his Zaku to handle. However it's to late for Crowns Zaku and he is burned up but don't worry at least the Gundam will burn to... or so Char hopes, While Gundam can't get back in time it does have it's own re-entry system which Amuro calmly reads from the manual, (Manuals always keep them handy) and the Gundam puts a large net around it to stop the heat.

This amazes everyone but also leads to one of the most annoying things I've heard where everyone is saying Amuro over and over and over and over again...... Char however wasn't done yet, turns out the first battle had a back-up plan, leading the White Base into Zeon territory, and Char contacts Earth occupational force commander Garma Zabi and says Garma can score some browny points taking down the Gundam. As the ship reaches Earth the passengers look on in amaze meant of the Earth but just then Garma shows up in a huge Gaw attack carrier surrounded by Dopp bombers. Garma see's the White Base isn't any old ship as his carrier takes in Char.

My GOD the animation! there thats out the way, get use to this I'll probs bring it up every episode. Things seem to be normalizing on the White Base, everyone seems to know there jobs but still the fight seemed very disorganized, that said Bright has seemly mellowed out but does panic a bit in this episode, Amuro also doubts his abilities, which is nice to see and it shows that he's still not much of a pilot and is still relying on Gundam. Meanwhile we see Char seemly be sad when he can't save one of his men which makes him a little more interesting than his rather plain bad guy he's been so far. Garma shows up here, we will see what he has in store for White Base soon. 7/10

Episode 6: Garma Strikes

This of course picks up right after the last with Garma Zabi attacking the White base that has just reached earth. Char arrives on the Gaw and goes to meet Garma, the two seem to be friends and Char warns Garma that the White base will be very hard to take down. Garma however seems more interested in impressing Kycilia Zabi, his sister and commander. On the White Base Hayato is busy in a simulator while Kai seems to just be hanging around making fun of him, till Sayla comes around to tell him to get ready for battle in the Guntank. Reed meanwhile is sat on the bridge shouting at everyone and generally been a tool. Dopp fighters and Amuro and Hayato head out in the Guntank (what happened to kai) Reed agrees begrudgingly. When the Guntank does launch however Amuro and Hayato seem to have conflicting ideas about strategy, Hayato wants to break the offensive line so the ship can escape, and Amuro wants to stick close to the ship and defend it. With the Guntank having showed up several Magella Attack tanks appear and begin attacking and despite Kai and Sayla manning the cannons and doing better than normal gunners the attack proves to much and bright orders Amuro to get his ass back in Gundam. Bright then wants Ryu to take his place but Amuro says he'll only do it if Kai or Sayla pilot the Guntank in his place<--- genius have the trained guy use a fighter jet and have the civilians with no experience use the huge robot.

Garma has to be told the Guntank is in fact a Mobile Suit. Char meanwhile is proving to not be a good friend wanting Garma to fail so his failure's so far don't look as bad. Amuro launches and finally decides that Hayato's plan was better and moves away from White Base. Garma however deploys 3 Zaku's and they with several tanks gang up on Amuro and stun him for a bit before he goes into rage mode and.......... does a commando roll with the Gundam before raging though all the Zaku's and tanks. This causes Garma to order the retreat. with the battle won, Brigth and Mirai talk and she wonder's if they will be able to get help from Federation resistance in the US. Amuro meanwhile returns tired and ignores everyone to go lie on his bed in his room.

Then we have the first ever Gundam fan service as Char takes a shower! while Garma talks to him,(obviously from outside the shower) and asks him for his help in taking down White base. Char agrees but as Garma leaves has a evil glint in his eye.

overall another good episode, reed is a twat and the sooner he dies and or leaves the ship the better. Once again the animation is lol worthy at parts with one of the scenes making it look like the White Base is still in space. There's also some recycling here as the Gundam does the same head grab to a Zaku and the Zaku's land on earth using the same frames from when they landed on Side 7 in Episode 1. Still nothing is jumping out and shouting this show is amazing! so 7/10

Episode 7: The Core Fighter's Escape

yay for pointless filler that adds little! So the general outline for this episode is that White base wants to shoot a Core Fighter into orbital trajectory so that they can contact the Federation and get help but they have other annoyances to deal with. Anyway the White Base is still moving though the US while making repairs, while bright and Reed decide on the above plan thanks to Amuro's idea. Amuro volunteers to do it since it's very risky as the force of launch creates many G's. meanwhile Garma is looking at the current info they have on Gundam and works out that it's many times better than what they are fielding. Back on White base the ingrate refugees have taken Fraw and the kids as hostages and demand to be let of White base. Amuro overhears while been preped for the mission and Hayato gets angry that Amuro doesn't show any concern for Faw, to which Amuro says that he trusts Bright and Sayla to handle it. Kai then makes a wise crack that gets to Amuro and he storms off. The Core Fighter is launched but is picked up by a Luggun plane, Char is told he will be able to intercept if he launches within a minute and is able to set up the Komusai to intercept the Core Fighter with help from Dren. Garma tells the Gaw to help out. Meanwhile Bright and the rest meet with the refugees who are dead set on walking on Earth, bright understands but asks them to wait a bit longer since there in Zeon territory however he is quickly called back to the bridge when Mirai calls to say they can't contact Amuro, who has passed out from the G's, and that Zeon ships are approaching him.

Char attacks the Core Fighter but Amuro wakes up, the White Base trys to help but Char see's though it and attacks. however Amuro realizes the Komusai isn't made for Combat so counter attacks damaging it. The Gaw however then launches a group of Dopp's and Amuro begins to have problems so bright tells him to abandon the mission and swap into Gundam. Kai makes a smartass remark to the mission's failure and Bright decks him one, telling him if he here's anymore of kai's wise cracks he'll throw him off the ship. Meanwhile Amuro's isn't to confident abut a mid-air battle but Sayla gives him a lovely pep talk. Once Amuro lands in White Base, he is swapped into Gundam which he uses to shoot at the Dopp's from the ship's hanger, Char then decides to launch in his Zaku to attack Gundam. Amuro launches and takes out a few more Dopp's before attacking Char. Char does his normal zipping about the battlefield but still says he's having trouble moving in the air the fuck? Then the old people arrive on the bridge and demand again to be let off, in the middle of a battle...... really? what idiots. Anyway when bright askes them to wait, they all sit down and say there gonna sit there till they are allowed off. Meanwhile back in the fight, Amuro runs off out beam rifle power and so returns to the ship, while Char lands on the ground. Garma tells Char that the Gundam is modular and this really gets to Char and he wonders on how he's meant to beat Gundam. back on the Ship the old gusy are moaning again about been on the ship, someone shoot them, Amuro tells them there been selfish and that they make him want to quit. Bright asks them to wait, again... and they leave. Faw comes to the bridge with the kids to congratulate Amuro.

This episode really didn't do much at all, the old guys are total idiots asking to be let off in the battle of a battle and frankly the sooner Bright ditches them the better. Other than that, the fighting in this episode isn't great but there's no real WTF animation either so thats good to see, still this episode is pointless filler really and was totally not needed. 6/10

Episode 8: Winds of War

Another filler episode but this one actually has a point to it so it's not a waste at all.

White base is traveling though "the Great Canyon" in the US aka the Grand Canyon, Mirai hits quite a few obstacles causing Reed the criticize her piloting skills. However a squad of Dopps fly overhead tracking there position anyway. Bright believes that Zeon will attack once they are out of the canyon since it would be the least advantageous position for the White Base. Once again the civilians come to the bridge and ask to be let off, with one mother wanting to rise her son in a town close to the canyon called St. Anges, Reed calls them selfish but Bright thinks he might have a solution. Bright wants to call a cease fire with Zeon to let them off. Char thinks it will be a good opportunity to prepare for the attack and Garma agrees and Char thinks Garma is still the spoiled rich kid he once knew. Back on White base Kai is interrupted by the kids as he goes to blow a hole in the Gunperry plane, Kai makes me laugh. Anyway the civilians get onto the plane along with Amuro, Kai, Faw and Ryu. As they head out a Luggun recon plane follows them, Amuro, Faw and Kai then use fake smoke to make it look like the plane was damaged in a Zeon attack before Ryu and some random White Base member fakes a emergency landing. The Zeon's fall for it and the civilians are let off, Char is surprised the White Base hasn't tried to sneak commandos into the civilians but chalks it up to been paranoid. Garma is sure they will win this time but Char thinks if they don't it won't matter since it will just make Garma look like a bigger fool. The civilians decide to stick together but the mother and child go a different way to find St. Anges. Faw, Kai and random White Base Crewman 1 head off in jetpacks and the Luggun unknowing that Amuro and Ryu stayed behind.

As the mother makes her way to the town they almost fall down a cliff while Amuro and Ryu begin to get ready to deploy Gundam. The Luggun follows Fraw, Kai and Job back to the White Base before one ot it's pilots decides to double back to check on the mother and child. Amuro hides in the Gundam, while the Luggun drops some supply's for the mother and child and seems he to have evaded detection until the sun glints on the Gundam, making the Luggun come back around forcing him to shoot it down. The White Base then comes under attack and Hayato and Kai launch in the Guntank, Guncannon respectively. Kai panics when under attack but manages to take out a few tanks before running dry on ammo. Char then thinks that they will be attacked from behind, Garma doesn't think so but sure enough Gundam attacks from behind as Brights plan works. Amuro goes to work on the hapless Zeon's and once he runs out of ammo he starts throwing his shield and using his beam saber, oh and Kai kills a Zaku by pushing it down a cliff.... The Luggun pilots sit with the woman and speak about the battle, the mother says it doesn't matter who wins as there will be wife's without husbands and children with out fathers at the end either way. With his forces defeated Garma is worried about how he's gonna explain his failure, but Char tells him not to worry as he will go out next time. Meanwhile the Luggun pilots leave the woman but not before one tells her that the wasteland they are in used to be St. Anges and that she should join the other refugees. the woman falls to the floor crying as he White base leaves the area.

This was to me a great message delivered in a standard episode, I found this to be the first real attempt by the show to be more than just a mech show. This showed a more human side to the war, whether it be the good family man Zeon pilot or the fact that the wife's husbands home town had been reduced to a wasteland by the war. This was a step in the right direction after the last episode but the rest of the episode wasn't much to write home about though it did have some funny moments. 8/10

Episode 9: Fly, Gundam!

Things get back into the main story after the last filler parts and things start moving again.

And this is why the last two filler episodes feel wrong. We open this episode up with Amuro tired and not been able to sleep like he was at the end of episode 6 and the opposite of what he's been for the last two. Anyway Amuro bitches to Faw about how he's not been able to sleep before starting to ramble (correct) conspiracy theory's about the White base just been used as a decoy. Faw leaves and catches Kai arguing with the chef that he's not getting the same about of food as Amuro or Ryu. Amuro goes to eat but see's a old man steal food from a kid when he's not looking which annoys Amuro and he leaves after giving his food to the child. Later the 3 kids run by Amuro and give him a tomato they stole. Then we get a laugh at how high tech White Base it when it is faxed orders from HQ lol. The order's tell them to break though the Zeon line towards the sea, without help.... Reed suggests they simply abandon White Base but Bright doesn't want to when they've fought to hard to defend the ship. He trys to order Amuro to go on patrol but Amuro refuses, Bright gets mad but Ryu says he and Hayato can handle it. They both head out in Core Fighters and spot the Gaw, and the Gaw them. Garma wants to attack but Char says to wait and let them lead the Gaw to White base, which they do. The Core fighters are converted to Guncannon and Guntank and are launched. However Amuro refuses and goes on about not been able to sleep and why he's fighting, bright comes down to talk to him but Amuro will have none of it. Amuro asks why Bright fights but bright say's it's not the time to be philosophical. Amuro say's Bright should pilot the Gundam, but Bright tells Amuro that he would if he could. Amuro says he shouldn't have to do things just because he can, Bright out of his depth with Amuro's whining gives him a good slap, says he's sick of dealing with Amuro's childish temper tantrums and he'll have it no more.

Kai, Ryu and Hayato struggle to battle the Dopp's lead by Garma outside. Garma notices that Gundam hasn't deployed and tells Char. Bright hit's Amuro a few more times and Amuro shouts that he will never pilot Gundam again because of Bright. Bright say's he's disappointed in amuro because he thinks he has real talent and that one day he could be better than Char, This catches Amuros attention, but Brigth say's he doesn't want to look at Amuro again and Leaves. Amuro chases but stops outside the door with Faw, who yells at Amuro saying he's not a man and telling him she will pilot the Gundam. Amuro say's thats impossible and says he will. Amazing what Char's name does for this kid. Back on the Gaw, Char fiddles with a plug secretly while playing up Garma's skill and saying he won't need to help, despite what he said last episode! Amuro launches with the plan of jumping really high to shoot the Dopp's which is amazing! so yeah he jumps about and shoots some Dopp's while Kai, Hayato and Ryu cover him. He then attacks Garma cutting off a wing, Garma trys to lead Gundam into a trap with the Gaw but thanks to Char the Gaw doesn't hear him. Amuro is stopped by a Federation Medea supply plane who tells him to return. Garma sees the disconnected circuit and says the engineer will be punished he then asks why Char didn't help. Char say's he didn't want to hurt his pride before sweet talking Garma's skills again. On White Base Matilda Ajan, the captain of the Medea, resupply's the White Base as well as talking Reed and whats left of the refugees off there hands. She says she is acting under orders of General Revil and that she doesn't think the White base will get any more until there out of Zeon air space. She then thanks Amuro and says she thinks he could be a New- I mean Psychic. Amuro can't take his eyes off her which ends the Episode with Faw sticking her tongue out at him.

Back to the grind and a simple episode, Char's actions here really show that he's not Garma's friend, meanwhile bright and Amuro's relationship reaches boiling point as Amuro goes into true whiny bitch mode and brigth just can't take it so hit's him. Though it wasn't until Char was brought up that Amuro snapped out of it. So Amuro is getting very obsessed with the ace pilot and beating him. And finally there's Matilda, who Amuro has taken a shine too. 7.5/10

Episode 10: Garma's Fate

The best episode so far and for good reason.

We pick things up in New York where Garma and Char are at a party, because of Garma's status men want to suck up to him while all the woman are fainting over his good looks. Char asks about Mayor Eschonbach and Garma explains he was the major and doesn't like Zeon but stayed behind to watch over the people. The the majors daughter Icelina enters the room and Garma goes over to her, Char smirks and thinks Garma is just a spoiled rich kid. The White base moves though a ruined city , Amuro wants to launch in Gundam to lead the Zeon away from White base, man he's perked up last episode you had to hit him to get him in Gundam now he wants to go in Gundam even before any kind of battle has started make up your mind lad! Anyway Bright disagrees, (down Amuro down!) Amuro objects but Bright tells him it's too dangerous, Amuro is still not happy though. Garma talks with Icelina on a balcony and it's obvious the two are seeing each other but her father doesn't approve. Garma says if he captures the White Base his father won't get in the way of the marriage but even if he does Garma is willing to leave Zeon for her. awwww. Garma is told that the White Base is nearby, and he orders his Gaw to be ready and to call Char who has been watching from a window. Char remarks about Garma finding love on the front lines and again calls Garma a spoiled rich kid. how many times is this now... Anyway Icelina doesn't want Garma to leave but he says he most catch it before it breaks though to the sea. He and Char head out in the Gaw to fight and fire flares to light up the ruins and find the White Base, but the light shows bright a large sports stadium and Bright has the White Base hid inside to avoid detection, Amuro again wants to go out in Gundam but Bright tells him to go on standby. The civilians get angry again and think about getting off.... wait didn't we ditch these idiots last episode and the episode before hand??????? Garma is annoyed he's not found the White base and Char says a carpet bomb run might work, Garma agrees and the Gaw begins to carpet bomb the city ruins. Amuro, Kai, Hayato and Ryu sit inside their suits and wonder nervously if they will survive this battle. Meanwhile Icelina trys to get in a jet to go to Garma but is stopped by her father, she says she can do what she wants but he hits her and says she can't.

The carpet bombing continues but the White base is nowhere to be found, Garma gets impatient and wants to down himself but Char says he needs to stay calm and that he will go down himself. He tells Garma to not let his feelings for a woman cloud his thoughts. Garma thinks he's calm and collected anyway but goes down to see Char off telling him if he sees the White base to tell him so he can attack with the Gaw. Char launches with two Zaku's, Bright decides to allow Amuro to do his plan and tells him to launch in Gundam and lure the enemys into White bases firing line. Amuro uses the ruins to try and hid from the Zaku's but a glint from his bazooka is seen by Char and he is attacked first. Char feels uneasy tricking his own men. Amuro trys to hid again but is attacked by the Zaku's, he headshots (+50) one Zaku though a building and another jumps him with the Heat Hawk, jumps really high into the air and the Zaku follows, kinda strange after how amazed everyone was about Amuro's jumping battle a few Episodes back now that Zaku's can do the same thing... Char wonders where the Gundam is going and thinks it looks like he's been lead into the open, so he jumps up and spots the White base. He thinks it's a good plan the White Base has and says he will use it for his revenge. He tells Garma the Gundam is heading back to it's ship and Garma goes after it. Amuro destroys the remaining Zaku and bright has the White Base prepare it's attack. He then has White Base, Guntank and Guncannon let rip at the blind side of the Gaw, Garma is shocked they are been attacked from behind. He tells them to turn 180 degrees and is contacted by Char who reveals his betrayal, Garma is shocked as Char gloats telling him should blame his father for this. Garma turns the ship around for a Kamikaze attack but bright has the White Base ascend out of the way as the Gaw and Garma goes up in smoke. Mayor Eschonbach receives a call and tells Icelina that Garma is dead. She runs away and collapses in tears out in the garden hitting a tree. Meanwhile back in Side 3 the Zeon home land, OMG what the fuck is that building meant to be! ahem Degwin Sodo Zabi the Sovereign of Zeon is told about his son's death and drops his Cain in shock and sadness.... but still what the fuck is up with that building, it looks like a evil mask, Jesus....

Well despite that last bit of architecture failure this episode was great, a few moments let it down, Char's betrayal is shown and we find out about his hate for the Zabi's. This makes him a very interesting guy, in fact this whole arc has made me interested in Char. Amuro however needs to stabilize on the personality front, first he doesn't want to fight, then he's ok with it, then he's sick of it and now he's actively wants to fight, make up your dam mind! four changes in 10 episodes is annoying. Garma went down in style for the first important death of the show, though would it of hurt to have introduced Iceilina earlier so we got to see the two together before he died, it was almost a marked for death sign at the start of this episode. still best episode so far by a good bit 8.5/10 oh yeah sick of seen amuro get knocked about in his cockpit when it's the same animation.
