We all have favorite games. Some are deserving, while others are simply cult classics that circulate through a small fanbase much like films such as Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, some games, that while seemingly popular, are actually some of the most overhyped pieces of shit that exist. So today I will begin a series discussing games that are overrated and overblown by both the media and it's fans. Without further exposition, here's my top 10 most overrated videogames and series.

#10. The F.E.A.R. Series
Why do people think this game is scary? It's not in the least. A game series that was solely promoted for it's "drop everything and run" inducing gameplay is praised by fans and reviewers despite lacking the thing it promises: a good scare. It may be disturbing, but no player worth his salt would shit himself over a horny zombie trying to fuck you.

#9. The Dead Space Series
Similar to F.E.A.R., Dead Space is not frightening despite advertising the scares it can produce. It's fans call it "the most frightening game of all time". O rly? How about we turn off all the lights, plug in some headphones and let you take a crack at Amnesia: The Dark Descent? Thought as much.

#8. Red Dead Redemption
I already gave several reasons why this game sucks, so it's easy to understand why I'm putting it at #8 on my list. IGN gave it a 10/10 along with it's expansion pack. I played it and thought otherwise. With shitty controls, tedious missions and fucked up glitches and methods of death, the game is certainly no perfect game despite the praise it receives.

#7. The Assassin's Creed Series
Though not rated as highly as RDR, the hype surrounding these games from fans and reviewers alike is wide spread. Though the mechanics introduced, such as the climbing fucntions are pretty good, the fighting is not only tedious, it's also boring as hell. You have a giant world to explore, but there's nothing fun to do, thus, Assassin's Creed makes it to #7 on my list.

#6. The God of War Series
Very similar to another blatant piece of uber-violent Spartan propaganda from America, the God of War series is simply a shitty story painted over with alot of blood, gore, and enemies to turn into said products. The game also introduced one of the most annoying game mechanics of all time: the quick time event, which now needs to appear in EVERY action game for it to be good in the eyes of critics. A simple game for simple minded fanboys.

#5. The Final Fantasy Series
Do you remember how long it's been since this series actually pumped out a worthy title? Exactly, since Final Fantasy 7. Otherwise, it's been a downward spiral for one of the greatest RPG series of the early years of gaming. With stupid gimmicks, loathable characters and effeminate designs that would make the women of CLAMP envious, Final Fantasy isn't recovering any time soon.

#4. The Grand Theft Auto Series
The poster child for violent videogames, Grand Theft Auto has had a long history of suck. Other than being a reason for the PMRC to bitch about another form of media, the series has set a standard for sandbox adventure games, but a bad one at that. The realistic limits the games present are not only detrimental to the gameplay, but to the ability of players to enjoy it. Again, IGN is IGNorant.

#3. The Gears of War Series
What do you get when you cross grotesque and awkward machismo with over the top gore and violence as well as an unemotional plot? A shitty game...and Gears of War. It's not just that either. Being another generic TPS doesn't help Gears much in the department of originality. It's one of the Holy Trinity of Shooters, despite having no real value outside of the ability to cush an opponent's skull with a stomp or chainsawing them in half in bland environments.

#2. The Call of Duty Series
Like the Final Destination films, this series needs to die in a hole. Shitty plot, mindless violence with wasted gimmicks. Like other games in the FPS genre, the game barely has a single player campaign, worth about 6 hours of pain and mindlessly clicking one button. CoD loses extra points for having to redeem its single player mode with online modes and gimmicks like Nazi Zombie mode whis is, of course, a mindless survival mode but with Zombies. Now the most popular game in the world and highest grossing, this series has shown that n00bs are plenty these days.

#1. The Halo Series
The KING of overrated games. Halo needs to not only die, but so do its fans, who babble on about the game and it's superiority to all other games of all different genres. It introduced dual wielding weapons? Wrong bitch, try 007 Golden Eye. Introduced online modes? Yeah, the thing that has ruined single player campaigns in FPS games. Accept the fucking facts fanboys: It's a Star Wars clone, Master Chief is not a badass and is cloned from Boba Fett, and the game is not even close to being the best of all time, get over it.

I agree with all so far save for GoW (only played the demo so not my place to judge) and FF since the only games I've not liked are 3 and 12, not played 11 and I feel the need to point out they have always had effeminate designs you might want to look at Yoshitaka Amano's concept art

I pointed out the fact that all of the sequels after 7 are bad. Either they're half-assed, have annoying characters (Tidus and Vaan), but one I didn't state was for 13 with the linear storyline. Plus, yes, it's fanboys consider it the greatest game series of all time, which is why it made #5, but it had good games in the series like 7 and below to actually give it credibility. Which GoW are you referring to?

and I said that 8,9,10 and 13 are good and 11 I have not played. You'd have to explain half-assed cause all the Final Fantasy have alot of effort going into them and it shows.

I played the demo God of War 3

as for the new ones you put up i agree more with, though as a games designer i have to have a certain amount of respect for the CoD devs they know exactly what there target audience wants and gives them want they want while not changing to much(if its not broken don't fix it!), I wish some other games would do that *cough* DMC *cough*

FF8 was half-assed since, despite how long the project took, the story was just plain confusing and nonsensical, the triple triad card game that they created for it was pointless and tedious and the magic drawing system was just beyond describable. 10 was just as bad with Blitzball and overpowering Wakka who can hit all enemies and do massive damage while doing so. On top of that, the characters were annoying (Tidus), obviously evil (Seymour), or bland (Wakka, Lulu, Kimari). The only one who was good was Auron who is a complete and utter badass. As for 9, it's been a while, but it wasn't successful as 7. Though it improved the combat, the designs are unappealling. 9 may be the most "meh" of the post 7 era. Not good, but not horrid. 12 is obviously bad since not only did I not enjoy the system of combat, but the fact is that you have Vaan as the main character yet he's constantly overshadowed by Captain Basch. Plus, he's Tidus 2.0, which doesn't help in the least. As for 13, it's just too linear in it's plot and maps while the characters weren't charismatic as the past games. Besides the fact this is talking overrated and bad games. As I said, FF had a good period in it's career, but the magic is lost. They need to switch over to the KH combat system so that we actually capture the spirit of the series in terms of fighting (like how Dissidia did) and allow more fluent fighting that isn't reliant on how fast you open menus while the enemy pounds you.

As for God of War, it pretty much is 300 in the form of a videogame with the same premise in all the games (revenge). If you like 300, I recommend it. If not, don't buy it.

Finally, CoD is overrated regardless. I know they're catering to a specific group of people, but the problem with the series is that it is, like the Final Destination films, the same product over and over again allbeit with a different location and even shorter campaigns yet marketed as a different product. The story is more like a random string of missions that don't emotionally engage you either. Not saying the series is bad. Among FPS games it's 100% the best, but the best game of all time like critics and gamers would have us think? No.

As for DMC, fuck Ninja Theory, I hope the game tanks.

the story of FF8 was confusing? that a new complaint. triple triad was AMAZING best of the 2 card games and one of the best minigames of FF imo your literally the first person ive ever met to dislike it lol. The draw system was exploitable but an interesting idea and pretty good if you didn't go the cheap route. Again Blitzball in X was epic I don't understand your mind XD Wakka was only really overpowered by the time you max'ed everyone imo and at that point who cares just fight Penance lol as for characters I liked most of them however I will admit Kimari was bland even in battle style. 9 had a very good battle style and ability system and a good bunch of minigames (including a card game ^_^), like you I wasn't a fan of the Character designs though. 12 I wont defend in anyway bad game is bad. as for 13 I wasn't to bothered by the linearity since it made sense via the plot (and everything was so pretty!) and I really liked the battle system it will be interesting to see how they build on it

as for CoD I admit it's overrated just saying the dev's know how to make a wining formula for there crowd and stick to it for everyone else there's battlefield or Bioshock

also this took so long course I was playing that Nazi zombie game lol very fun with mates

10. Sonic series. I have no idea why.

9. Ōkami. It's one of the few good games Capcom made. I'm not quite sure if Ōkamiden was better or worse than Ōkami.

8. Atelier series. Too many games and it is much more favored than its sister series Mana Khemia.

7. Bayonetta series. Same as Dead or Alive because Bayonetta's old outfit can be removed at will and... okay. I'll stop here.

6. Final Fantasy XV. Everyone wants that game much more than any FFXIII game... I mean, I've no idea why it's more awesome than FFXIII trilogy anyway.

5. Dynasty Warriors series... or rather, just Dynasty Warriors 8. It's the first entry of the KOEI Warriors franchise and DW8 is the most overrated I hate it. It's not as awesome as DW7 was... DW8 was simply DW7 v.2 for me.

4. Mass Effect series. I mostly see fan art of that game and it seems to be similar to Dragon Age due to the fact you can change the gender of certain characters.

3. Dead or Alive series. Mainly due to excessive amounts of fan service.

2. Tekken series. I even used to hate how overrated it is because it's the most popular fighting game series after Street Fighter.

1. Every Final Fantasy VII game. Yes, the compilation itself is so awesome. However, the fact that many FF fans prefer this or FFXV as a favorite usually makes them dislike or be unaware of other FFs.

To be honest, The reason there is so much Mass Effect art out there is that people fell in love with the setting, the races and characters, and having played both Dragon Age and Mass Effect, which just to clarify for you was released 2 years before Dragon age, Mass Effect is a totally different way of playing and set over our galaxy.

So Saying Mass Effect seems to be similar to Dragon age should be the other way around :P
