Hello everyone. Today I am going to show you how to create items that will teleport you to a certain area. You may have seen them before as the Blinking Mirror in Suikoden or Warp Wire in Etrian Odyssey. Also I will tell you how to create a NPC that will be able to teleport you to different locations. Think Viki from Suikoden or the Gatekeeper from Disgaea. I have divided the guide into two parts, short guide and detailed instruction. Basically if you are familliar with RPG Maker VX the short guide is for you but if you are uncertain the detailed instruction goes into further detail. I will probably add in how to create an item similar to the escape rope from pokemon but it is a bit harder to simplify that. Short Guide Create a new common event that will transfer you to the area you want the item to take you to. (Preferably the same name as what you want to call your item) Create a new item After writing in a name and description set scope to none set occasion to only from menu. set consume to no set common event to the common event you created.. You now have your teleporting item. Detailed instruction Step 1 Go into database and click on common events. Click on a blank space under the words Common events on the left of the page. Type in Blinking Mirror as the name. (This is not necessary but it will make it easier on you finding it) Set the trigger to none if it is not already. Right click on the page under List of event commands. Click on the number 2. Click Transfer player. Clcik ... Now click on the map the exact spot you want the item to teleport to on your map. Clcik ok Click apply on the bottom right of the page. Spoiler: click to toggle Step 2 Go into database and click on items. On the left side of the page scroll down until you see a blank space you can click. If there is no empty spaces you can click change maximum to increase the amount. Once you click a blank space type in the name of your item. (For this tutorial I used Blinking Mirror as my name) Spoiler: click to toggle Basically you should have set scope to none set occasion to only from menu. set consume to no set common event to Blinking Mirror. How to create an NPC that will teleport you to different locations from a list. Short guide Create an NPC Enter in some introduction text Create a choices branch that will list the areas you want to be able to teleport to. If you need more than four just make number four a new branch and name it more. Do not forget to just leave your last choice as cancel. (This way you do not have to teleport if you do not want to) Right click under the name of each choice location and set a transfer point to the place you want to teleport to in each area. If you want create some npc text under When [NO] in the event page. Detailed instruction Spoiler: click to toggle Step 1 Click the letters Ev from the menu above your map. Right click on the spot you want the NPC to be. Click New Event Click Graphic and add the sprite you want your NPC to look like. Step 2 Right Click on the page under list of event commands Click Insert Click Show text (Found in page 1) Type in the message you want the NPC to say as a greeting. Clcik ok Step 3 Right click on a blank space under List of common events. Click Insert On page 1 click show choices. Name the first three spots as areas you want the npc to teleport you to. If you want the NPC to be able to teleport you to more than four locations name the fourth choice More Click ok Step 4 (If you want more than four locations) Right click on the @> underneath More on the event page Clcik Insert On page 1 click show choices Do the same as in step 3 If you want more than six locations just repeat step 4 as much times as you need to. Name your last choice Cancel which will end the conversation with the NPC if the player wishes to stay where they are. Step 5 Directly under When [What you named your location] right clcik on the @> Clcik Insert On page 2 click Transfer player Click ... Click on the area on the map you want the NPC to teleport you. Do this for each area you want. Step 6 At the bottom of list of event commands you should see When [NO] Right click on the @> directly below When [NO] Click Insert Click Show text (Found in page 1) Write in what the NPC will say if the player chooses not to teleport anywhere. Spoiler: click to toggle Spoiler: click to toggle Spoiler: click to toggle

This is a pretty good tutorial Fannon. ^_- And I like how you did the Advanced Tutorial and the Unfamiliar tutorial. Very good for those who didn't know this. <3 |

Thanks Identity crisis although it is rather basic. I still have to put in how to have it so different teleporting areas are available at different times in the game. I am not that good at explaining things >.< |

That'd just be conditional branches right or a variable..? Might be a little difficult to explain in simple form. |
