What is reality, if not our blind interpretation of the truth?
The thing with portable console platform games is that it's just that - a platform game for a portable console. However big a title it is, or however advanced the graphics may be, the essence is that it gets boring. Well, handheld platform games got a major kick in the ass with "Prinny - Can I really be the Hero?".

Prinny is a spin-off from the PS2 and PS3 series Makai Senki Disgaea, or just Disgaea. The story of Prinny is that Etna, right hand to Laharl, suddenly finds that her fridge is empty and decides to create the ultimate pleasure, the Ultimate Dessert, the recipe of which is a legend. She instructs the Prinny Squad to retrieve the ingredients, giving them a scarf that allows them to "die" 1000 times before they actually die, and the order to retrieve them within ten hours. Armed with the magic scarf and his trusty knifes, one heroic Prinny sets off to find the legendary ingredients and save his life from the wrath of Etna.

While Prinny's story may be simple, it still is amusing, especially to those who have played Disgaea. The characters really make you laugh your lungs out, both with their hilarious facial expressions, and their epic lines. A feature of the game that compliments that are the graphics, which are some of the most nicely done the PSP has seen so far. With a look similar to an anime, and a beautiful static background unique to each area and boss, the player hardly gets tired of venturing the stages.

"Venturing? Isn't this a platform game?" one might ask. The answer is that while the gaming indeed takes place in the usuall linear style of platform games, the designing team made it so that there is more than simply going from one edge of the map to the other. There is a definite feeling of story progressing, which is rare in the platform genre. Plus, as time passes, the stages change, meaning that the order in which you play them has a direct impact on the difficulty of the levels to come. That, though, can be a bit confusing to some, and make the game harder for those who are new to the genre.

Another aspect of the genre is the controls. A platform game usually has simple, easy to understand controls with minimum to none button combinations. Usually though, this means that the attacks are either very limited, or just non-existant. Prinny takes simple controlling to another level, offering a limited range of button combinations that are easy to memorize, yet deliver a relatively wide arsenal of attacks. Besides, who doesn't love a Prinny flying in the air and throwing everything it can get its hands on onto the enemy?

Speaking of which, the enemies is another great feature of the game. Enemies appear in a great variety, including old enemies like Succubi and Archers from Disgaea, and new ones such as cannon riding pigs, exploding hearts, flying gurus and many more, each of them having a unique attack pattern and requiring different handling.

And as if those were not enough, the game goes on even after you finish it. The downloadable content from PSN store adds new stages, bosses, enemies and rewards. Even without that, the game still takes many hours to complete, mostly due to the amount of achievements.

In general, Prinny is a unique and fun game to the genre. Considering that it was designed for a handheld console, it really surpasses most of the other games out there. A must for everyone, this game is surely not to be taken lightly.
