The clicks Lucy’s new shoes made against the cobblestone street were lost among the footsteps and chatter of the other pedestrians. The street was rather crowded, as was probably normal of a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. She seemed to be younger than most of the other people there; most of them the upper-class citizens of Paris checking out the local shops, or beggars.
The girl gazed at the various shops lining the street with interest. Lucy had barely arrived in the large city a week ago and was still taking in all it had to offer. She had yet to meet anyone, nor had found a place to stay other than a shabby inn. Her train ticket had left her with little more than enough to stay for a few nights at the place. It was on the other side of the city and she had spent more than she should have on a cab ride to what seemed like one of the more popular streets in Paris.
Lucy held up her skirts so they wouldn’t be stepped on as she managed to dodge most of the citizens coming her way while still being allowed a brief look at each building she passed. There was so much to do here! The city seemed to offer many theaters, which she had yet to visit though it was definitely on her list of things to do. It would probably have to wait until she had money though, especially with the expenses of today’s trip.
Finally reaching what seemed to be the end of the main shops, Lucy found an empty bench and sat down. She let out a sigh, contemplating what to do next. She continued to think as she began to do one of her favourite hobbies: people-watching.

"Well mabey..ahhh--I don't know-uh..."

"Ah! For the love of Jesus! Listen here, or you'll be missin' out on the greatest offer you've been--offered! This watch..."

While the old merchant scratched his head indecisively, the dim-witted rouge continued to try and persuade him to purchase a very expensive looking and very broken watch. This doleful display was just as painful to Thenardier if he were to lodge a thin blade between his two front teeth and bite down on it. Impatiently, he ran his fingures through his slimey hair and scowled. Had he not agreed to alow this dullard to do the dealing, he would have already been on his merry way back to the Gorbeau House with a purse full of clattering coins while the old fogey admired his dead new watch believing it had the potiential to tick life. Oh if only this were so!

After five grueling minutes , Thenardier was fed up with just standing by listening while the two men rambled back and forth. It was time to take care of this himself like he should have from the beginning! His eyes flashed, as though his mind had just calculated an effective intervention, and leaned forward to execute it---suddenly something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. Slowly he drew back making sure that neither his comrade or the Old Merchant payed attention to him. A fair, dark-haired hussy was eyeing him from across the street; or so he believed.

"Strange..." Thenardier muttered to himself. "Either this girl is catching on to us, or she's taking a fancy to me."

He casualy turned towards the Merchant's stand so that his face was not visable to her, but his eyes remained fixed where he once faced so that he could just barely make out her figure from the side of his head. Little by little, he straightened his posture, adjusted his coat, and replaced the shoddy free strands of hair back behind his ears. Thenardier figured it would be common curtesy, if she were examining him, to look presentable. Nevertheless, he remained suspicious and was prepared at any given second to tap his acomplice on the shoulder so they could be on their way

Lucy sighed contentedly as the light spring wind pushed past her, thankful that the cold was past for another year. Reflexively, she turned her head to the side and flattened her dark hair, always wanting to look presentable. Seeing something out of the corner of her eye, she paused, letting her hand linger on the side of her head for a minute. Quoi? She thought. She could have sworn someone was looking in her direction.
Her light green eyes searched through the busy Saturday crowd to find her observer, not quite sure of who she was looking for. Lucy frowned slightly as she continued her search; there didn’t seem to be anyone looking at her now. It must have just been my eyes.. She concluded, pushing her curiosity to the back of her mind and returning her gaze to the various shops that lined the street.
Another sigh, I wouldn’t mind some tea, I wonder where I can get some around here? Lucy refused to admit to herself that the thought of some unknown person watching her had successfully scared her, though it was probably safer to be frightened of such things when out alone. One could be easily kidnapped on a busy day like today without being noticed. She had already heard of a worryingly large number of disappearances in the area, and now that she thought about it, she was afraid that she might be added to that number.
As the though occurred to her, Lucy quickly jumped to her feet, glancing around anxiously. She walked quickly back the way she had come, all the while looking quickly at each of the shops she passed for any sign of a café to stop in. She would be safe inside a building.
She was forced to pause to catch her breath after only a moment; corsets were definitely not made for running in. Leaning against the wall of a shop, Lucy closed her eyes and rested a hand on her stomach as she attempted to steady her breathing.
As her eyes opened, she gazed around her to see if anyone had seen her odd behaviour, now realizing how much she had overreacted. No one seemed to have noticed, too busy with their own affairs to worry about a paranoid young girl. As she was about to continue walking, this time at a normal pace, she noticed a ragged looking man observing someone she assumed to be a friend or partner of some sort discuss something with a merchant across the street from her. He seemed to be watching her from the corner of his eye, but she couldn’t be sure as he was faced away from her.
Lucy offered a small smile and straightened her back a little, just in case he was looking. Perhaps this man would be her first source of money in Paris? At this thought, the young girl made her posture as inviting as possible, hoping the stranger, if he was indeed watching, would approach her. And if he isn't looking at me, I'll just walk off. It sounded like a good enough plan to her.

((sk~, would you mind terribly if I asked you to keep your text in its original size? Some people have differing screeen resolutions (meaning that it might look smaller to them than to you), or inperfect eye-sight, so it's just easier for everyone if the text is all the same size. Savvy? Also, I think I'd like to join in with Babette here in a little while, is that alright with you guys? ^^))

((=D That would be GREAT! Please, do join in! The more the merrier!))

Brows raised inquisitively, Thenardier continued to further examine this female stranger.

Now, he was indeed enlightened in the art of Body Language, and could easily interpret into his own words her luring smile which she formed with a very light upward curvature of her thin lips. This ment that her intentions were to come across as casual, and attract no one else on the street's attention but his alone. Also, the accecible pose which gradually became more and more definate was a gesture to motion him towards her. In short, this girl wanted something--whatever this something may be. There was an eager air around this gaunt damsel, an air he knew all to well. Was she a prostitute? Possibly. Was she aware of his and his companion's small gambit? This was also a posibility...

Reaching over and placing a boney hand on his shoulder, The Rouge pulled close to his senseless partner and muttered in a low tone,

"I believe we're being studied by that little strumpet over there" he pointed his thumb over his shoulder. "I'll take care of her--no more horsing around and use your head, you're doing nothing but confusing the man!" Thenardier finished sharply, leaving the Crook to pick up where he left off in a panic, and strode off in the direction of the Stranger. As he approached her, he slowed his pace and smiled amicabley. His rat-like nose wrinkled.

"Why hello, mademoiselle." Dark eyes carefully scanned her face. "Do forgive me, but I couldn't help but notice...you look like you're a bit unsure of yourself, as if you aren't from around here. You aren't lost, are you? If so I am perfectly willing to lend a helping hand."

Of course he had not drawn up the fact that she wasn't from Paris without recieving some type of clue. Thenardier had learned to recognize the wide eyed look of an out-of-towner. He also knew perfectly well that she was not ineed of help, but in some cases ignorance guaruntees trust, and this seemed like one of those cases.

Lucy grinned to herself in satisfaction as the man tapped his comrade on the shoulder and spoke to him quickly before making his way over to her. She used the small amount of time it took him to cross the street to push any thoughts of being kidnapped or murdered by the man to the back of her mind. The last thing she needed was to act oddly around the first person she met in Paris, especially due to something like that. He would be very offended if he knew I was thinking such things, she thought.
“Hello mademoiselle.” He had an intelligent voice, something she had definitely not suspected from a man as ragged looking as the one that stood before her. Now she could see many details which had evaded her previously. Some of these, such as his slightly yellowed skin and greasy hair she wished had remained hidden. Nonetheless, she replied with a simple “Bonjour, Monsieur.”, and a curtsey.
She listened to him speak carefully, making sure not to miss any disguised invitations. As he asked if she were lost, Lucy quickly grinned to herself at her accomplishment before transforming her lips into a seemingly shy smile. The girl completed the look by turning her eyes toward the ground and batting her eyes slightly before replying.
“Ah, oui, I arrived in this grand city only a week ago and I am still finding my way around. If you wouldn’t mind, monsieur, may you show me to somewhere I can get some tea?” Lucy turned her timid smile up to him, hoping that he would allow her some time to put him under her ‘spell’.
“My name is Lucy Grimm, by the way.” She was careful not to ask his, afraid that it would show a lack of respect and scare him off. Losing her first potential source of money would not be good.

((Hooray! And thank you my dear for doing so! :D))

“Queen Mab! O, hear my plea! Please take thy dirty hands off of me!! Arg! Babette!” The older girl, Sarah Mart, wrenched her arms out of another girl’s pinching grasp, straightening the hat she’d fashioned for herself out of a mesh fabric.

“Unruly sprite! Thou hast mine ear! And yet thou draws away in fear!” Babette couldn’t help the rising giggle in her tone, arms still outstretched from where she’d grasped her friend.

“Stoooop you two! See those people’re looking at uuuus!” The youngest one, Georgia Piquette, pointed a little finger at a group of ladies exiting a tailor shop.

The other girls froze in place, but only momentarily. Such fun could not be ruined by adults, especially when the fun consisted of fairy-play: Babette’s favourite sort of make-believe.

It had been a lovely day so far. The girls, with permission from Madame Giry, of coarse, had ventured out on the town for the afternoon, promising to be back at the House by suppertime. They weren’t much interested in shopping or sightseeing, they were still young enough yet to be enthralled by the wiles of fancy, the fickle world of ‘what if?’ Babette was always Queen Mab, Georgia was usually a woodland creature of some sort, and Sarah took to being something like Puck or Titania. Shakespearian fey were always their preferred guises. Sarah was Puck today, finding no shame in portraying a male character. They were intending to go to the park, but apparently there was some catastrophe gone on there, and the perimeter was closed. They settled for a street with some trees, instead.

Georgia, who thought it best to run away and hide round the corner, at this point, was chasing Babette, away from the eyes of those ladies. She found herself skidding down the new avenue, skirt hitched up and hat askew. Unfortunately, her path and pursuit of the nearest tree was cut short, bumping into someone. She could not tell, immediately, what sort of person. But her gaze was down, and her head having not hit whalebone, not to mention no sign of a skirt, she could only surmise it was a man.

"Sorry sir!" Babette looked up at last, massaging her head, while the other hand was held up in an apologetic manner. Still giggling, though trying to swallow it down. She did not catch any inkling of what sort of thing was stewing here. Only that the man was rather sketchy, as was the girl before him, though a bit less so.

((Bleh! sorry for the bad posting! I'm rushing this one! :X ))

"Is that all? Well I most certainly wouldn't mind, my dear!"

Thenardier laughed as any good-natured gentleman would. "Infact I know just the place."

There was no doubt in his mind that she was a prostitute, he concluded this as she displayed her coy guise; her pale eyes casted down humbly at her feet to accentuate the length and thickness of her lashes, and then looked up to direct her fawning gaze at him. Thenardier's eyes darted from his (now ex) partner, who was on the verge of shouting at the elderly merchant, back to the girl. All hope of making out with any form of money had vanished. Now a new idea was squirming it's way out of the woodwork, although not quite like the former.

"It is a pleasure to meet you--ah--"

There was a brief pause. This was not an aquaintance he planned on meeting again in the future, so making up a false name other then Jondrette was pointless. He carried on, bowing respectfully and introduced himself-or his alias rather. "-Call me Monsieur Jondrette. Now then, come with me, and don't be ashamed. Paris is a large city and it takes quite some time to get used to it. Heavens, I still lose my way now and again!"

As Thenardier offered Lucy his hand, a fast moving blur found it's place collided neatly into his body. "OMPHAW!"

Although he was blinded by stars, by some miracle the scrawny figure managed to keep his balance. Wind knocked clean out of him, Thenardier could make out a tiny 'Sorry Sir' between his succession of painfull breaths and also-what he found irritating-the tittering of a child. It was by an act of God he kept his composure.

"No no..that isn't alright. You shouldn't be running around such buisy streets this time of day! Where are your parents at? Oh, who am I to ask, what does it matter? Mabey that bump on your head will teach you a lesson." Of course Thenardier spoke this all very mildly despite his malicious state of mind.

Lucy transformed her face into a thankful expression, as though she had not expected the man, who introduced himself as Jondrette, to help her out. She figured he knew, more or less, what she was after or at least what she would do to get it, but the girl kept on with her disguise. “The pleasure is all mine, Monsieur Jondrette.”, she replied, completely ignoring the pause he took before stating his name. Why should she care if he gave her a false name? It wasn’t as though she would have any use for it. Unless he is the kidnapper that had me so worried moments ago, the cautious part of her mind added. Shoving this voice back into the depths of her mind, she focused on the matters at hand.
Jondrette had held out his hand to her, a good sign, but before she could move to take it, the thin man was nearly knocked over by the force of a young girl running into him. Internally, Lucy cursed the child for interrupting her interaction with the man and possibly ruining whatever would follow.
Much to her relief, Jondrette seemed as annoyed by the girl as Lucy was. She smiled smugly at the child as he spoke to her (not quite as angrily as she would have if it had been her in that position), though Lucy was worried that the man would still be angry once the child left. That would definitely ruin the young woman’s day.
Lucy was tempted to ask him to forget about the child and to let them continue on to wherever he had in mind, but she knew, from experience unfortunately, that that was no way to talk to a man. Intending to leave the lecturing to Monsieur Jondrette, she was unable to do anything about the situation but watch, so that was just what she did.

"I..." Her mouth hung open, and her eyes flitted from one figure to the other, backing away slowly. "Ahem." She cleared her throat, seeing something in the young lady's eyes that wasn't...all too comforting.

"I apologize sir. But you see, I, Queen Mab, am on an expedition. " It was hard to resist. How could she pass up such a divine opportunity? Babette wasn't one to be kept under the thumb of authority. And this pair...well, who wouldn't? Well, plenty wouldn't. But she would.

Sarah came up next, but froze as she saw her friend engaged with such a couple..."Uh.."

"Puck! I b'lieve...'tis thee who'se...Oh my, now what sor 'tof head did she give 'im?" She clenched her teeth, and eyed Sarah cautiously, yet hoping her tone would hint her into providing back-up.

"Who...? Oh..." Sarah began, Georgia catching up moments after. "Babette...really..."

"Nonsense!" She flung her hands in the air, gaining confidence despite the lack of support. Really now! "Sir! I b'lieve the dastardly queen Titan'ya has cursed thee!" At that, she pointed to the older girl he was with, "Confess, demon witch! Or feel the wrath of the Queen of all Faerie!" Her fingers crooked into claws, and she rose to her full height with exuberance.

The other girls sighed, and shook their heads.

Lucy traded her smug smile for an expression of shocked surprise. The child dared to speak back to an adult! The girl seemed to be trying to get Jondrette to play along with the game she, who called herself Queen Mab, and her friends had been playing. The name sounded familiar to Lucy, perhaps from something she had read?
As mademoiselle 'Mab’s' playmates caught up to them, the young lady found that she could not blame them for their lack of the same outgoingness, had she been in the girl’s position, she would be frightened for her life of being beaten. She would have never have dared to speak to her elder in such a way, and still wouldn’t, for that matter.
The older girls were addressed by names that were obviously fictional, though Lucy couldn’t quite place the sources currently, too interested in the scene at hand. She inched closer to Jondrette, eyeing him curiously. How would he react to ‘Queen Mab’ and her games?
Meanwhile, their interacting was attracting minimal attention from the others on the street; they had no interest for a recklessly outgoing young girl, her playmates, and the suspicious looking couple. Subconciously, they steered clear of the little scene, too busy with their own affairs to pay much mind.

"I apologize sir. But you see, I, Queen Mab, am on an expedition. "

"Eh...." Thenardier's messy brows ruffled in confusion. Since when had Queen Mab transformed into a predeveloped, long legged moppet? Two other girls, around the same age, quietly slinked up beside the Queen of Faries. Fortunately, they were not nearly as flamboyant as their leader. Actually, they were reluctant to join in the delirium.

Thenardier chewed his tongue causing his mouth to turn askew as Mab tried to motivate her accomplices to play along. He felt himself loosing intrest, and fast.

Sir!

There was no reason to stay just to listen to such nonsense, so he promply patted her head and replied indifferently, "A very innovative rendition of Shakespear! Now then, I'm sure your mothers are worried about you, so off you go." It was clear how eager Thenardier was to get rid of them--especialy Queen Mab. From a slight glance he could tell Lucy was forbearing, but that didn't mean that he still didn't run the risk of loosing her to impatience.

"Come now." Thenardier took the arm of the young woman without delay. "we'll also be on our---you're still here? You heard me, off with you."

She jumped slightly from his little pat, lowering her arms reluctantly. "'T weren' intending no harm, sir." Was muttered rather sadly, though what else could she have expected? Perhaps it had been their rather unusual looks that had tempted her. Or perhaps she was getting a little tired of Sarah and Georgia. Well, so much for that. They usually were right behind her in this sort of thing, but perhaps the involvement of adults in such close quarters was what made them withdraw.

The other two began dragging Babette to the side, towards a fixture of stone bench and fountain. She pursed her lips unhappily, but conceded, allowing herself to be led off. She watched the odd couple link arms, and couldn't help but frown a little. That girl looked quite young to be with such an old, ugly man. But she supposed some girls must like that. Ugliness. Or old age. Or perhaps the two of them combined were really something for some people.

Perhaps he was very rich! And she was only after him for his wealth. That could be. Or maybe she was truly and inexplicably in love with him, and could see past his...oldness.

She couldn't help but add just one more thing..."Be wary o'the evil Fae Titan'ya!"

Sarah pinched Babette on the arm, "I believe it was of ill fortune that I decided to be Puck today..."

Though she had been annoyed by the children’s arrival, Lucy was glad that Jondrette didn’t become as angry as she had seen other men when confronted with such situations. The young woman smiled faintly at her companion as she watched his expression of disinterest; it seemed her day was not completely lost after all.
Lucy took half a step back as he patted Queen Mab’s head, before speaking to her indifferently, clearly ready to leave. Ah, she thought to herself, as sort of a sidenote to the whole thing, So it was Shakespeare the children were getting the characters from. She was thankful to have found this out so she would not have to be puzzling over it all night. Such things could bother her so easily and for lengthy periods of time.
The dark-haired woman was thrust back into the present as her companion took her arm, seemingly finished his business with the child and her friends, who were attempting to pull their Queen away. ”Come now.” Monsieur Jondrette’s intelligently spoken words met her ears, but before he could say too much, his attention was returned back to the children. Mab had spoken once again, after having quickly made some sort of diagnosis about them. Lucy sighed inwardly; this was why she would never have children. Always getting in the way.
The young lady pulled slightly on Jondrette’s arm, only enough that it could be dismissed as a shiver from the spring wind if he took it the wrong way. These children were beginning to make her impatient. Could they not find someone else to play fairies with and leave her to her business?

While the vivacious girl was being dragged away by her two friends, Thenardier started in the direction of Café Rose, a small, upscale place that he was farmiliar with, but had never stepped foot in to other than to make small-talk with the owners. It was far to expensive for his likings.

"Children today look up to their superiors with far to little esteem..." he sighed, then clapped his hands together and quickly changed the subject. "Anyway, I think you will be very pleased with this place, Café Rose. I stop by every Thursday whenever I can find the time. Don't worry about anyone bothering you, it isn't disreputable like some of the more common joints in Paris."

"Be wary o'the evil Fae Titan'ya!"

As soon as the faint warning of the twelve-year old girl reached his ears , for some strange reason , a memory rekindled from earlier that day. His eyes glinted. That very same morning while he was hastily throwing on his rotten coat and exiting his flat, he called back to his wife who stood in the doorway: "Bah! Not one ounce of luck we've been having lately and I'm getting sick of it! I sware, if I run into some little brat on the street, I might just be compelled to take him home and write a formal ransom note, so help me God!"

Thenardier's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Had he not just run into a group of children? And weren't there no parents to be seen? The usual way to make money, which largely consisted of writing letters to philantropists and begging for money, had been doing him no good lately. Desperation was getting the better of him. Suddenly holding a little girl for ransom didn't sound like such a bad idea.

He came to an abrupt hault, almost forgetting that he had Lucy by the arm.

"Oh!" He exclaimed and released her. "Forgive me, mademoiselle, but I had forgotten! There is something very important that I must tend to imediatly! I do hope you understand, had known I wouldn't have taken you only to leave you in such a hurry.... Oh, how rude of me!"

Burrying his face in his hands, Thenardier turned away displaying 'self-disgust'. As he did so, he peeked between his fingures and caught a glimpse of the three girls sitting besides the fountain. Good, he thought to himself, they haven't left yet.

"So who was that funny boy at the beach, Babette?" Sarah sat neatly on the edge of the fountain, hands folded. Trying to look mature, Babette suspected. She was getting too old for them, it seemed. She was at the cusp of fifteen. Too old for make-believe. Babette hoped, honest to God, that she'd never grow out of it. Of coarse, who'd seen a grown adult woman playing pretend in the park? But every time she thought about it, a great hot wave of dolorousness enveloped her and refused to dry.

"Not now, Sarah Mart, I am trying to be Queen! Georgia...Georgiana...will you still play with me? You will, won't you? You haven't abandoned me, have you?" She clasped her hands together, kid glove on kid glove, and gave Georgia a pair of doe eyes.

Georgia was stubborn, but loved to play, so she nodded her head briefly before kneeling on the ground carefully, her customary animal position. "I've decided I am a rabbit. I am Queen Mab's familiar."

Babette frowned a little, and folded her arms, "Well, if you're going to be a rabbit, at least be a jack rabbit, or be a hare instead, won't you? Mad needs a strong familiar, not a fluffy dwarf rabbit."

But dwarf rabbits were Georgia's absolute favourite. There was no swaying her. Babette had decided that before she'd finished her sentence, mostly from the mournful look the younger girl was giving her all the while.

"Ughh. Never mind, let's just keep going, please! Sarah?"

"...Alright, Babette Pomeroy. I shall continue to harass thee as the dastardly sprite Puck."

So they started up again. Queen Mab refused to grant Puck with the power to rule the forest. She accused him of treachery and treason and tintinnabulation, among other things. Georgia, who'd christened her dwarf rabbit persona 'Carol the Caring', hopped willfully at Queen Mab's side, frowning and growling at Puck with every glorified request. They'd never actually tried to remain faithful to Shakespeare, that would be terribly repetitive and boring, wouldn't it? Unoriginal.[/i

Babette wanted desperately to look behind her. To find a kind face...to find any other face...but all she saw was his: Pointed, dilapidated and thin, with odd, almost sickly yellowing skin. This, she concluded, was the first time she’d ever seen someone truly hideous. Inside and out.

Lucy smiled happily as she and Jondrette walked arm-in-arm towards their destination: Café Rose. He seemed to have ignored the child’s remark, something about the silly game they were playing. She was very thankful that he seemed to have not been bothered too much by their little interaction and Lucy thought that she would be able to manage the rest of her plan seamlessly.
”Allow me to thank you once again for your kindness, Monsieur Jondrette. I would have been-“ The young woman’s somewhat exaggerated speech was cut off as she noticed that the man seemed to be focused on something inside his mind. ”Monsieur?” She asked cautiously, afraid that she might be interrupting some important thought but also wondering why he seemed to be paying attention to his thoughts and not her. Oh, how she hated being ignored!
Lucy was pulled back as her companion stopped quite abruptly. She began to ask him again what was happening, but he spoke before she got the chance.
"Forgive me, mademoiselle, but I had forgotten! There is something very important that I must tend to immediately! I do hope you understand, had known I wouldn't have taken you only to leave you in such a hurry.... Oh, how rude of me!"
She frowned at his words as he released her arm. What was happening? This had been all working out so well... Jondrette turned his back to her, covering his face with his hands. In an attempt to ‘comfort’ him, Lucy placed a hand on his shoulder and stood a bit closer than necessary as she spoke. ”Oh, that is perfectly fine, Monsieur Jondrette. I suppose I will be alright to find Café Rose on my own.” She let out a sigh, aiming to sound lost and worried that she would lose her way once again if he left her. Hoping to convince him to stay with her, at least long enough for her to get what she wanted, she turned her sad eyes up to him to complete her look. ”You’ve been very kind to me, and I could not dream of asking for anything further.”
Looking past the man for a moment, Lucy noticed those three bothersome children frolicking around the fountain. She glared at them; they had most likely been the cause of his departure. They had probably ruined his mood and spoiled whatever Jondrette had had in mind for her. Now that the afternoon seemed to be drawing to an end soon, Lucy would probably have to wait until tomorrow at the very least to find a new man. How she hated children!

”You’ve been very kind to me, and I could not dream of asking for anything further.”

His attentions snapped back to Lucy. Turning around, Thenardier nodded his head gravely with the most apologetic look he could muster and whipped out a crumbled up piece of paper which he always kept at hand. One never knows when something might haved to be scribbled down, whether it be a memo or a message to someone when being listened in on. Next he pulled out a pen from his pocket and wrote something down.

"Good, it relieves me to hear that." He handed the paper to her. "Here, these are the directions to the Café . I regret not being able to accompany you, but I really must be on my way. It was a pleasure to make your aquaintance! "

Thenardier had already taken three steps backwards as he was finishing, and did not wait for Lucy to respond before stuffing his hands in his coat pockets and turning his back to her. He hurried back towards the fountain with his gaze casted casualy up towards the sky, appearing as though he had nothing in particular on his mind. Since it would be questionable to look back over his shoulders to see if Lucy was still there, he could only hope that she was on her way. If anyone were to witness the heinious act he was about to preform, it would be her. None of the other people hustling by had anything to do with him and were to absorbed in their own lives to pay attention to anything but their own affairs.

When Mangey Rogue neared the fountain, he could see that the little rascals were continuing that silly game of theirs. Perfect. Perhaps they were in enough of an imaganitive state of mind to play along with him.

"Ah, so I see Queen Mab and her faithfull subjects (he had forgotten that Sarah was Puck and had no clue what Georgia was supposed to be) have not yet departed." Thenardier aproached them, grinning as though amused by their antics. "Must I say, your majesty, that I am ashamed for not heeding your forewarning. I found myself enticed by the wicked Titania's curse. I had just narrowly escaped her grasp with my conscience in tact!"

Babette was just about to holler as a result of getting in the way of Puck's curse, which had been thrown at her side sneakily, when the sketchy man came toward them! She froze, on one foot, hopping to keep balance, mouth hanging open. "Uh..." Her original intentions for involving this man were merely out of devilish fancy. A chance to see how he'd react, perhaps a bit gobsmacked and appalled. That was always fun!

But she'd never thought he'd actually play along...He didn't. He'd been just like any other dullard over the age of twenty-five, shooing her away like a horsefly. This sudden change in standing was...not exactly astounding...but a bit...unusual? Bah, what?

"...Err...yes, well, such sirens'll tempt us all..." She decided she might as well keep this up. After all, she'd been the one to start this whole thing, right? The other two girls had no obligation to support her now, as before, but she wasn't about to drop her game on the floor. Perhaps pride was kicking in. Or ego. Perhaps she didn't want to admit she'd been childish, or behaving in such a way just to get attention.

She put her other foot down at last, and took on a rather stiff position, hands dropping at her sides. The other girls looked a bit horrified. She, Babette, was growing a bit resentful towards them. Betrayed. But what could one do? Perhaps Sarah was angry with her for being so cruel to Puck.
