HISTORY Tobias Ragg was born to a very poor family in the poorest means imaginable. He was never taken good care of and was treated more like he was just another mouth to feed. Toby was born the youngest of a large family, a family that was barely scratching by to begin with even before he came along. Toby was treated horribly by his father who hated him for existing and ignored by his weak mother who wanted nothing to do with him or the rest of the family. His brothers and sisters had been going to work for years before Toby had even been born and only a few years into his life, Toby was sent to the factory. He worked long hard hours. he saw dreadful things and was bullied at the very beginning of his life in the factory. The young boy had turned the age of ten, still working in the factories and barely tolerated in his own household. He wasn't anticipating any change in his lot in life and figured he would be stuck miserable, bone thin, barely hanging onto life as it was and kicked around in the dirt as he was forever. Then Senor Pirelli discovered him on one of his errands and took him aside. He offered him a whole new life, help with his barber work and a decent pay. To Toby, this was the promise of a new life above all others and he gladly accepted. However, Toby had no idea that things wouldn't be much better in the hands of Pirelli. The boy was treated more like a filthy servant than a decent helper and was pushed around, whipped, beaten and punished for when he might happen to make a mistake or tried to run away. Toby was fortunate however for the one day that Mr. Todd and Mrs. Lovett happened upon the streets when Pirelli was trying to sell his infamous fake hair tonic. However, things became strange when Pirelli went to check on the barber Sweeney Todd and from there on he seemed to have missed returning swiftly afterward. And since Toby had no place else to go, Mrs. Lovett eagerly took him in and Toby didn't wish to deny her as it was his first sense of a real safe place. Working for Mrs. Lovett became one of the best things that had ever happened in Toby's young miserable life. Toby was thrilled to work for her and took his job seriously especially when it came to turning the business around for the better. He became extremely loyal to her and considered her the mother he felt he should always have. However, he did not feel the same towards Sweeney. The man still frightens him and he can't bear to stay in the same room with him. Toby wants nothing more than to protect Mrs. Lovett from him and has no clue as to the real business and means of the meat pie restaurant that's been feeding London. And so no one should hope that he would ever find out. ×RELATIONSHIPS Mrs. Lovett: care taker PERSONALITY Toby is a loyal child, always hoping to help more. He's hard working and grateful for the opportunity he's been given. He pushes hard and is always dreaming about something or other. Toby wants to be bigger, taller and stronger but fears that he never will be. Toby is still frightened of his past and believes that some day that his old master Pirelli will find him again and want him back. Toby has nightmares of the man and is easily frightened especially in the dark due to the fears of his factory days. He cares the most about Mrs. Lovett and would do anything to protect her. However, he pushes too hard and sometimes loses grasp of what's right in front of him past his dreams. Toby is eager to please and loves people. He enjoys feeling loved and cared for as he is now and wouldn't trade where he is in the world. However, he's become more and more cautious of Sweeney Todd. He's scared for his life and has been peeking around where he shouldn't. Toby is very curious and longs to discover what he can about the places around him. If he isn't working ,Toby is exploring and that exploring could just be what gets him into trouble. He's smarter than he looks, quick to figure things out and is fairly quizzical. When he asks a question, he hopes to get an answer that's truthful. It looks awesome, just one little detail about his history: He was taken in by Lovett after Pirelli 'failed to return' to the pie shop after he was murdered by Todd, from there Lovett took him in to be her helper/busboy. So if you could change that from Lovett approaching Pirelli about Toby after she and Todd met with him at the market, that would be great!
