Given Name: Harland ~Middle Name: Cephas Julian ~Alias: Matrim Cornerstone Last Name: Samuels ~Prefix: Mr. ~Suffix: II Gender: Male Age: 19, 23 as Matrim Appearance: From a mixed background, Harland has traces of the Germanic, English and Irish in his face. Harland wears his hair a little longer than closely cropped, it's deep black strands hanging roguishly to match his Outlaw's smile and intense grey eyes. A some-time theatric, Harland has taken to the use of eye makeup, darkening his eyes into an even more outlandish gaze reminiscent of the Egyptians of lore. Harland usually prefers to be clean shaven, but as time dictates at times he grows a dark shading across his throat and chin. Enjoying extremes, Harland can usually be seen wearing either a simple shirt, coat and pants accompanied by a simple black top hat, to a much more extravagant form of dress. A man of many eclectic tastes, whatever event he is attending Harland is bound to make a splash with the latest in fashion, or often times something yet to be seen. Whatever he is wearing, the two accompanying pieces he would never be without are his Flintlock-knife and his long Knife. These are his protection in foreign lands, as well as props for several entertaining stunts he can perform. ~Height: Three and one half paces (5'7”) ~Build: Strong, but not very defined. 'Fleshy.' ~Skin Tone: Very Fair ~Hair Color: Raven Black ~ Eye Color: Deep Grey ~Face Claim: Peter Wentz ~Accent/Phonetics: An apt theatrical vocalist and flamboyant social entertainer, Harland is currently using a base English rhythm as Matrim Cornerstone. As himself, he carries a slight earthy edge but is otherwise untraceable. As a note, he has become decidedly adept at impersonating the strange accent of the exotic Chinamen when they speak the English language. History: Born to Harland and Anne Samuels of the Hamilton Samuels of Upper Canada, Harland was named after his highly successful father as the first son. Heir to a Landowners Empire, Harland grew up a privileged child along with his younger, calmer siblings Gregor and Susan. The wild child, Harland could never sit still and was rarely seen peacefully about the house. An instigator and adventurous, he made a mockery of rules set upon him and more often than not was running about the town with a pack of other children causing mischief rather than being the proper son. Tired of trying to regulate him, when Harland was fifteen his parents began searching for a suitable match for him, hoping being tied to a woman, or girl, would calm him down. Calm it did, for a short while, as his more dangerous escapades disappeared into nights in the downtown and trips into the countryside. The time spent in urban centres proved drastically wrong for his parents wishes, as he left behind his childish exuberance for more mature undertakings, learning the true ways of the world. It took his fiancee three months to realize he had bedded several of the local lower class girls, and in response she discarded him publicly, wiping her hands of him. Chris fought his first dual the day after, as her father demanded he pay for the embarrassment he had caused his daughter. Harland left with several small scars, lucky compared to his foe, who lost an ear to the quick and wiry youth. After this event, Harland became a rogue and a rebel, ignoring everything told to him and looking for little more than self gratification and adventure. His parents tried cutting him off from the family money, threatening expulsion from all of the family estates, even imprisonment, but nothing could hold back their sons raucous behaviour. In a last ditch effort, Harland Senior has sent his son the the center of the Arts and Civility, Paris. Hoping that time in the almost mythical Europe will curb and possibly halt Harland's antics, adultery and violent outbursts, his father has even agreed to fund much of his trip, including room and board, along with a new wardrobe to attend Balls and Social gatherings he might attend. So far in Paris Harland has kept a low profile, traveling as Matrim Cornerstone of the English Countryside, but he's begun to get a feel for the lower classes of Paris and is almost ready to begin foraying into the higher class events, perhaps starting with an Opera or two. He has been thinking of getting a proper shave though, and there is that barber above the place that sells the delicious meat pies... ~Family Members: Harland Samuels (Father – Landowner), Anne Samuels (Mother), Gregor Samuels (Brother), Susan Samuels (Sister) Occupation: None Specified (Sometime Entertainer, Con Artist and Investor) Personality: Born the wild child of Upper Canada, Harland is passionate, extravagant and outgoing. Willing to try anything once and unwilling to let a challenge drop to the wayside, he is more often in trouble than not and is always looking forward to his next big venture. Harland has few scruples, something his betrothed learned first hand before she dropped him for a more stable, if less exciting, man. That painful experience curbed his enthusiasm very little, it was instead his outlook on women in general that changed. Rather than seeing them as things to be cherished and taken care of, he saw them for the jealous, cruel beings they could be. His journey to Paris is currently masked by his persona of Matrim, a carefree young man out to explore the world and soak up the culture of Europe. Pretending to be innocent and naive has proven easy for Harland to perform, and is wearing thin on his more outgoing, raucous and rebellious side. It won't be long before Harland needs a release, and it's sure to be a splash on the artistic upper Parisian classes. ~Quirks: Harland is a very passionate man, and will rarely deny an advance on his person.
