The Jacobite movement and sentiment runs deep throughout the Highlands – that passionate desire to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne. Scottish clans desire their independence while the British crave domination, setting the stage for the inevitable, violent clash of ideals and convictions. There are others who care not for political intrigue but who are content to live their lives just as their forefathers did. But as events unfold all may be swept up in the conflict to come - whether or not such involvement is desired. With change and conflict on the wind, the motto of Clan Fraser should be the declaration for all living in the Highlands: Je Suis Prest! ANNÉES FOLLES The Thomas S. Hallenboch Tenement is packed with oddballs. No one really knows for sure what everyone’s doing behind those doors, but it’s safe to say that it’d probably be a bad idea to barge in. The ventilation system is busted, the wallpaper is peeling and way out of style, and on top of that, there are strange noises during the night. But it’s the cheapest place to live in Madswit, so they say. Not to mention utility fees are taken care of. But darn it, there’s some weirdos around here…What sort of weirdos? Caesar Claudius Sabucius died without an heir, and to avert a power struggle, the adolescent son of his wife, the Empress Lucilla, was given the throne-- Darius Honorius Sabucius Caesar. With the emperor so young and inexperienced, the senior consul of the Senate, Scipio Dacicus, oversaw a restructuring of the Empire, with the once-weakening Senate now assuming greater authority over affairs in Rome and throughout its provinces. To rule the provinces on behalf of the young Caesar, the empire has been divided into four section, each placed in the hand of highly skilled--and highly ambitious--men. Camillus of the Julii, secretly behind the murder of the previous emperor, rules over the West. Fluvius Stilicho, a loyal and patriotic general of no political leaning, rules over the East. Manius Sabucius, the nephew of the late Caesar, rules over Africa. Quintus Alexander, a famed and skilled general with ambitions of his own, rules over the central section of the Empire. The Senate itself controls Italy, with many senators in favor of a Republic trying to use this to their advantage. With so many ambitions within Rome competing against each other, those on the outside of the Empire see this as the perfect time to assert their authority. In the sands of the Middle East, the mighty Parthian Empire has started to claim dominance once more, with the Parthian King naming his brother King of the Roman province of Armenia. Parthian emissaries have been dispatched to Rome to sue for peace, but many see war looming on the horizon. Then, in the North, as the Roman Empire gears to expand its borders into Britannia, the Germanic and Celtic tribes are beginning to rally once more to challenge the authority of Rome in the fringes of its world. Within the city of Rome itself, a myriad of individuals go about their lives, trying to survive in an unpredictable and adventurous world. The slave trade flourishes, and gladiators fight in arenas to please the hungry mob. Camillus of the Julii and other influential Romans are building a massive arena--the biggest colosseum the world has ever seen--to feed this hunger. As intrigues abound among politicians and soldiers while the young Darius seeks to secure his throne, and as so-called barbarians try to assert their power, the people of Rome try to live their lives as normally and enjoyably as they can. Thieves, slaves, beggars, farmers, soldiers, senators, aristocrats, assassins, foreigners, merchants, and all others have a part to play in....
