HISTORY:
Julius Henry Montague is the youngest of three sons born to the garrulous and rather wealthy Sir Charles Henry Montague of Hertfordshire, and has spent the most of his life living a terribly difficult life of leisure. Educated classically in the languages and various other subjects Jules has managed to retain an almost alarming amount of innocence. Indeed, some might say that living on the estate for almost all of his life (Sir Charles despises London, and could not bear to have Julius from him for any worthwhile amount of time) that Julius was alarmingly naive to the subtleties of human nature – if rather clever about other things.

Jule’s brothers, Fitzwilliam and Hilary, are both over ten years older than him, and both models of good sons. Fitzwilliam is happily married, or married, at least, and working on growing a visage as stern as his fathers whereas Hilary is overseas, looking after some of his father’s investments. Jules has never been particularly close to either of them, and always feels rather threatened when they are around him – with reason. Jules has very little going for him other than the fact that he is the youngest, and more spoiled than the others. Jule’s mother is quiet, retiring and often particularly ill, as women of the period were wont to be, and though she is fond of her sons it is in an abstract and distant manner; their presence tires her.

In his years at his home, as well as hunting, riding and studying, Jules found much occasion to retire to the library with a book – and this, he would say, is where he really grew up. From The Mysteries of Udolpho to Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Jules has read any number of adventure novels, finding them far more captivating than his own rather dull life. He also spent hours learning the violin – every young man, his father was of the opinion, should have an occupation, and Jules couldn’t bear to smoke, so playing the violin would have to do.

Jules has just arrived in Paris, in a flurry of excitement, adventure and, though he is loath to admit it- rather a lot of luggage. He finally convinced his old man that what any young gentleman needed was a trip to Europe in order to see the world and set him up in life – and as soon as he had permission he packed up and headed straight for Paris, hoping at last to see some life, to experience some adventure.

~Family Member(s): No one in Paris; his family back in England.
~Spouse/Fiancé(e): None
~Love Interest: None, as yet at least.
~Crush: Several, ranging from the pretty girls in the estate to the elegant belles glimpsed in London – but he’s left them behind in England.
~Lover: None.
~Belle/Beau: None!

PERSONALITY: After a sheltered life, with servants and rich ladies and gentlemen paying respects to him, balls and the politeness of country society, Jules is looking for adventure. He’s ready for anything – danger, excitement, love, swordfights – almost anything. Or so he tells himself. For the first time in his life he’s tasting freedom, and he is resolved to face it with courage and fortitude, just like all the heroes in the books… if only.

Jules is kind and caring, but far too quick to trust. After a whole life of having everything done for him he is selfish and not very good at empathy – though he certainly means well. Jules is excitable and optimistic always (after all, nothing has gone wrong before in his life, so why ever should it?) and bizarrely free of those class boundaries that so limit society – having never spent a proper amount of time in London, and spent rather too much time in the company of his father’s tenants.

Jules is good at music, largely because he has a very logical and mathematical brain. Though unable perhaps to respond properly to a personal situation, present him with a logical one and Jules will be on top of it immediately. As for heroics, having never had to face such an exciting situation Jules is unsure how he would react – he has horrible fears that he might faint, or run away, but is determined to cultivate his sense of adventure, and become mightily dashing, heroic – and things like that.

~Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual.

SECRET WORD: rara avis
