The most basic kind of post that you could make in a fight is probably something like this:

Post

I lung forwards with my sword at the goblin's chest.

It's simple, and it gets the job done. The ref knows that your character is lunging forwards at the goblin's chest. Easy. But another, better way to handle combat is by doing something like this:

Post

My first attack would be to lung forwards at the goblin's chest with my sword. If that blow connected, I will pull back and slash at its arms, trying to disarm it was short, quick strikes. If my first attack is parried, then I will back away and prepare to block.

When doing something like that, you're doing a number of useful things:

  • You're increases your post length.
  • You're making better strategies, thus making your combat go better.
  • Because you've given directions for multiple attacks and situations, the ref will have more to ref about. With only one attack, then the ref can only write about one attack. But when an entire strategy is given, their posts can include all the attacks that you've outlined.
  • Combat is finished in less posts.
Come on, try it out!
