Try hard, camp harder
|
Night 1 Variabilis stood in the theater’s lobby, his back leaning on the wall. Popcorn had been spilled everywhere, coin-operated machines had been toppled. The theater had been completely wrecked. A faint smile formed on his face, perhaps reveling in the carnage. His Servant, Berserker, had been a handful on the night of her summoning. It seems that she had fallen in love at first sight with Variabilis, a notion that really made his stomach turn. Love, who needs it? All I need is myself. And… Before he could finish his thoughts, the double doors leading into the theater opened with a clangor. A middle aged Chinese man, probably in his mid-fifties led the way. His hair was a short and brown, and certainly had begun to thin out along with a thick, brown goatee. He wore a tattered white and grey colored robe that extends down to his knees, with splotches of stains on it. He carried an ornate golden staff decorated with rings, which stood at roughly 6 feet tall, a foot taller than the man himself. Behind him was a schoolgirl with short black hair. She wore an outfit consisting of a white blouse with blue collars and a black miniskirt. She carried a sword in its hilt, in which the hilt had chains protruding from it. He didn’t move. He stood his ground, expecting him to make his way over. He was correct. The older man continued on his way over, his head held high. The girl behind him seemed to be snacking on some sort of food. “Greetings. I am known as Sheng Wei, a spiritualist from the great nation of China. I presume you are in this Holy War as well. This here is my Servant, Saber. It would please me if you would—“ Variabilis interrupted the man known as Sheng Wei mid-sentence. Pushing himself off of the wall he had been reclining on, Variabilis simply laughed. “Sheng Wei. Sheng. Wei. Is that so? You are Sheng Wei?” Variabilis began to laugh even harder upon hearing his name. His outburst made Sheng and Saber feel quite uncomfortable which made him laugh even harder. Saber reached for her sword, but Sheng motioned towards her to stay her blade. “Indeed, my name is Sheng Wei. Is there a problem with my name, young man?” Sheng said, solemnly. Little by little, Variabilis’ laughter died down, and a scowl replaced his grin. “Interesting. You have piqued my interest, Sheng Wei. Very well. My name is Variabilis, and you would do quite well to remember it. Berserker, we are leaving. Would you like to say good bye to our very good friend, Sheng Wei?” Berserker laughed. “No. He’s a little too old for me, Variabilis. Sorry! Bye!” And with that, they made their way out of the theater. The euphoria of seeing the destruction with his own eyes had worn off and he had no intention of sticking around with that old man. “Who was that guy?” Berserker asked, innocently. She had probably figured that he was a stranger to him so the question was logical. “A tool of death need not ask questions,” Variabilis said, coolly. Berserker began to pout, but Variabilis ignored it. Shortly after entering the waterway, it had begun to rain moderately. It had been snowing a little earlier, but it seems that the weather was above freezing now. Rain was a welcome sight to Variabilis. He greatly preferred rain as opposed to snow. Sensing no one around them, he cast a protective barrier over Berserker. The barrier itself was a luminescent shell of sorts, imbued with the properties of rain. It was a skill he had picked up…somewhere. He would much prefer to keep his skills a secret to the other participants in this war as long as possible. This is an unrealistic goal, but a goal nonetheless. And thus, the night ends uneventfully. Edited by gravy, May 19 2011, 10:56 PM.
