We won't be turning members away due to inexperience or quality of RP, what I basically mean is that people have to have an inkling to want to try to stick around. In AR for example there were several members with no will to RP, no background and never interacted ICly once, but would chat and attend non-RP events. What I basically want is to encourage people to try and learn to RP with us if they are new and want to ^^.

Look at the rank requirements for people to move up for dragonbait, right off the bat one of their first assignments is a "learning" type RP talking with another member. I put in this requirement so that we can eventually work towards a guild mentor system once we have more people. (I have waaaay too many ideas in my head)

FFXI kind of ruined the face to face meeting for me since it had to be an actual requirement. To join the guild "channel" you needed an actual object that could only be traded. To top it off, everything in the game took forever to do or set up so if someone was in a different city you could expect to travel at least a half hour to get to them and forget about it if you were in a party after looking for group for three hours to finally get one when someone is on to talk.

I have no issue with recruiters wanting to meet face to face with people if that's what they want to do, but the ability to invite from anywhere was one of the drawing points for me to this guild system <3^^;;

Glad to hear there won't be a hard and fast "no" to potential members who've not RP'd before. MOST of the time I've had great experiences with those that are new to it as they often put the most effort into their RP. I heartily agree about the non-RPers. This *IS* a RP guild and if you're not interested the least little bit then really, you'll not be happy here.

I did note the requirement in moving up and love it. The RP guilds that have done that to one degree or another have usually ended up with some quite fun, interesting and often quite unique RP fun! Seems often a newer RPer has a different twist or maybe it's just a fresher outlook on RP sometimes and can come up with some stuff that's really off the wall fun. The mentor idea.....wow.....ambitious but hey, why not shoot for the stars? :)

That's too bad about how FFXI handed joining a guild channel. That wouldn't work well here as I can see the same sort of problems arising as you spoke about happening in FFXI.

Thanks for answering my questions. I'm one who really likes clarification. I find that it often alleviates the problem of confusion, misunderstanding, and vagueness later.

The mentor idea I'm taking from my mud days, when you joined a guild there you were to find a mentor who would help you settle into both the game and the culture of the guild. I think a mentor system here would be *really* fun with having someone to oversee and help you complete your advancement tests. I am probably going to go throw and more "meat" to the rank requirements soon myself.

The more I think about the mentor idea the more I like the sound of it. I'm interested to hear more about how you plan on doing it.

When I played a MUD I was just thrown in more or less, but I DID have the help of a friend who played when I did, at least to start. Sort of the same when I started EQ2 only that was even better. My gal pal Cyndi and I were on voice, often joined by an in-game friend of hers who isn't a RPer, and with their voices in my ears and them in game on a character, I got the hang of things SUPER fast. I was really lucky I think. Sadly she's in-game rarely these days, although happily it's due to good things in her life but I do miss her. Also sadly the friend is gone from the game and for not so happy reasons...health problems caused him to be completely unable to afford the game, or much else. We still keep in touch via IM on Yahoo Msgr, email and even snail mail. He's in western Canada. But both of them were my mentors, big time, with regard to the actual gameplay. As for the RP luckily I had done tons of that so had no need for a mentor. Cyndi just clued me in on a few things like RM and what was what with some of the RP guilds at that time, all now long gone except for VK.
