There has been some talk on what format to make the guild chat. I have worked with both static location guilds and with using the channel as an actual communication device that is audio only.both seem to work well and have their perks, but I was wanting to know what everyone would prefer? Audio allows people to add more variety and work what they are really doing into the RP, while a stationary location allows people to have in contact RP and physically interact even though they are busy. On the other hand, we could use a combination of both, and allow people to RP as if in the tavern while those who aren't present can still speak and listen in to everyone via a communication device of sorts. What ideas do people have? |

I think both would be both cool and possible. Kaliet said:
That's in the ballpark of what I'm thinking. Perhaps members could get some kind of .. ring? Or something in that area, like a hidden microphone, and it'd magically tie them in to something in the tavern. Or, as an alternative, we have an IC guild chat as being in the tavern, and then another chat channel that's for communication between all the members via the mics. I am personally intrigued by some kind of member>member communication system. |

I'm more into the idea of the guild chat being that of Rping in the tavern. So we can rp with eachother anywhere we want to, more than simply talking to eachother rply. As for two channels, that might be too much to manage. Tells/guidchat/OHooc/group/voice ring chat lol. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, just a view |

I'm thinking that we will try both for now to see how it goes. |

Yeah, totally. We can always re-evaluate. |

I'm a fan of the communication device idea, but I think a hybrid would be cool, where everyone carries something like an attuned crystal (or some other roleplay device) that lets them see and hear each other. Could say there is one mounted in the guild hall that allows everyone to always see what goes on there. That way you could "play" in the hall or interact and comment from the peanut gallery. Or something like that. I'd just like us to encourage ic interactions as frequently and in as many ways as is possible. |

I mentioned my ideas last night and ya'll asked me to post here. I was tired, it was late and I had an early morning so I didn't do anything until now. I believe that Reylin and I are on the same page with our desires for this device. I was in a guild for a long time that didn't even have an ooc channel! If they did ooc it was in guild chat with brackets (( )). It worked exceptionally well too, which was surprising. However, eventually an ooc channel was made and at first it did kill off some of the run random RP in the IC guild chat, but things settled back down soon enough. I'm really fond of the idea of a guild crystal or whatever you wish to call it, that can be turned on and off and where you can hear and/or see the other people. When they "turn it on" (log in) they can opt to say hello via the device, IC, and others can opt to respond, IC. Same for saying goodbye, "Turning off my <device> and finding my warm bed, goodnight everyone" If they wish to also visually RP, using something like, *looks up from the hot stoves and waves a quick hello*, they can. It can all be completely volunteer. If you wish to only use the ooc for this, that's cool too. If you wish to have no visual, only verbal, that's fine also. It's up to the individual and how they use their fabulous, all seeing, all hearing device ![]() The guild I've been talking about also had it so that the device announced "great achievments by our members" (leveling, etc.) and the grats were often done IC and oft times were quite fun to read and react to! The benefit of this, IMO, is that it encourages IC chit chat, even if it's just how your character responds to greeting everyone as they "turn on their device" when they're having a bad day and need to grump about it ICly. Often little bits of how your character lives, behaves, works, whatevers, shows up in these little exchanges. An example I can give is during the time my character Murdina lived with Ruthillia when Murdina first arrived in Qeynos (after I first rolled her). Ruthillia had recently moved into a nice three room in SQ, to make more room for her flourishing business, and is a neat-nik. Murdina, on the other hand, is a slob. So, often when Ruthillia first "turned on her device" she was arriving home to find Murdina's muddy boots, dirty bits of armor and etc. all over just inside her front door and would tsk tsk about it. You get the picture. It was just little bits here and there but it really gave a lot of depth over time to our characters and thus when we did deeper RP, either just on the channel but not face to face OR face to face, these little things added to the characters. The guild channel of course should, IMO, be used for the tavern. Always. But I'm wondering, what if we'd like to participate in what is going on in the tavern but given time limits on our game time we also would love to spend a bit of time crafting, harvesting or something else like that, do we need to be physically ( with our toon obviously ) in the tavern or can we visually see as well as hear what is going on and take part in it? I hope so because unlike some I don't spend a LOT of time in game every single day and thus I don't spend the majority of it face to face RPing. I love face to face RP but if that is ALL I'm going to do in the game well, no offense to anyone in the game but I can do that elsewhere for free. Sure, it won't be with the great people here and the good lore, but, well, you get the picture ![]() All in all, I feel this is a good approach because it helps people interact regularly, daily, IC. I feel that everyone becomes more comfortable with each other's characters and that makes deeper, more involved RP easier, more fun and more approachable. It also seems to help new members get the hang of the guild's characters, their personalities and so on, plus if someone is new to RP or a shy RPer it can be very beneficial to them and encourage them to get more involved in the RP, especially face to face and events. I've also seen some really good, ongoing RP develop just from these little daily exchanges. Not a bad thing, IMO! I hope that as a newer member and as someone who a lot of you have not really RP'd with you won't think I'm pushing my own agenda here or anything like that. Last night I asked about talking IC and how it worked as each RP guild has a slightly or drastically different take on it and I wanted to be clear. When I expressed my ideas I was asked to post here about it so I am. Please take these comments in the manner they are offered.....as suggestions only and a hope to continue on with the idea of building a cohesive, friendly RP guild!
