LOS ANGELES -- Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley participated in No. 3 Southern California's light practice Monday, but didn't do any throwing drills while resting his sore shoulder. Safety Taylor Mays skipped practice to rest his injured right knee. Barkley bruised his right shoulder during last weekend's 18-15 victory at Ohio State, and he was limited to handing off Monday. Sophomore Aaron Corp, who lost the starting job to Barkley in training camp, took snaps with the first-team offense. Coach Pete Carroll said Barkley "will be OK" in a statement released by the school, but didn't specify how much practice time Barkley would need to be ready for the Trojans' Pac-10 opener at Washington on Saturday. Barkley was 14 for 31 for 195 yards with an interception against the Buckeyes, but led the winning drive late in his second collegiate game. Mays sprained his right knee at Ohio State, but the All-America defensive back's injury is mild, Carroll said. |
