INDIANAPOLIS – Purdue running back Ralph Bolden was recovering from a severe knee injury a year ago and looking at a redshirt season. Now, he's the nation's leading rusher. Bolden ripped through Toledo for 234 yards in Purdue's season-opening 52-31 win last Saturday, the third-highest single-game total in school history. His first carry as a college starter went for a 78-yard touchdown. "I was like, 'I'm reading my keys and everything,' then they hiked the ball," he said. "I was really surprised at how big the hole was, and that I was able to do that off my first carry." That explosiveness is one of the reasons he got the starting job competing with senior Jaycen Taylor during training camp. "Many, many times in practice (Bolden) took it the full length of the field," Purdue coach Danny Hope said. "You see a guy doing that over and over again, and pretty soon you realize this guy's got some speed that can make a difference to the football team." Purdue would welcome a similar effort from Bolden on Saturday at Oregon. Click to read more.... |
