Well I suppose the rest of the internet hockey world is talking about this, we should too. Do you think that it is a good idea to move the Phoenix Coyotes to Hamilton Ontario? I'm Canadian, while that doesn't give my opinion any more or less value, I think it's important too point out becuase my view may be more Canadian biased. While I'm cerntainly not anti-seven (adding a 7th Canadian Team) I do need too think over a few more things. 1) Member base of the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is only an hour and a half from Hamilton, with a few losing season is it impossible to believe that Buffalo may be the next Franchise in trouble? I know Toronto is close as well but with such a deep histroy I can't see them suffering as much (if any.) 2)TV Deals. More Canadian teams could mean less american views, and while hockey is a popular sport it recieves a lot more reconision from Canadian Stations then American Stations. While I doubt the Phoenix market draws that many fans it is still an American team, which could (very unlikely) make the playoffs. If four Canadian teams make the Eastern Confrence Playoffs and eliminate the four American teams how many people from the states will still follow the rest of the playoffs. Again this isn't a likely senario but it is still something I think should get considered. 3)More teams moving. If it happens that Phoenix gets moved because of low attendance is it impossibile for teams like Tampa, Florida, Atlanta to be moved? Canadians love hockey so what if we see 10 Canadian teams (Tampa, Florida, Atlanta, Phoenix) which again goes to my second point. Again, I would love to see a Seventh team in Canada but I think it should come from expansion not relocation (I know about previous relocations). Anyways just my take on it, agree or disagree. |
