Armageddon’s history The world of Armageddon is the lynchpin of the Armageddon sectors. It lies in the center of the navigational lanes for the entire sector, and its industry supplies arms for regiments of Imperial Guard for thousands of light years. it was first attacked by Angron, the massive, winged deamon prince of the World Eaters renegade legion. it was later attacked, two seperate times, by Ghazkull Thraka, the greatest known ork warlord of all time. -2nd war for Armageddon in 941.M41, the greatest ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka attacked the Armageddon system at the head of an enormous WAAAGH. The governor of the planet, Herman von Strab, was told of the massive ork fleet aprouching the planet, and he did nothing to fortify the planet. When the roks smashed into the western continent, he sent out his PDF forces, who were utterly destroyed. Armageddon Prime was swiftly attacked. Commisar Yarrick, instructed the astropaths to call for aid, and was punished for it. Von Strab exiled him to Hades Hive, which some call his best decision in the entire war. Von Strab told his commanders that the orks couldn’t possible cross the jungles and rivers that separated them from the eastern continent, the base creature that they were. However, they stormed across the jungles and the rivers Stygies and Diobalus and headed for the heart of Armageddon, her hives. Von Strab told Princip Mannhiem to attack the orks, though the Princip knew that it would lead to the devastation of his forces. He was right, and the mighty Iron Skulls titan legion and accompanying forces are all but destroyed. -Fall of Helsreach The orks crushed Infernus hive as the season of fire swept the landscape. As they moved on south, they split between Hades and Helsreach. The bitterest fighting of the war was about to take place. Von Strab unleashed his secret weapon, a stockpile of virus bombs. These ancient devices, however, malfunctioned terribly and plunged into imperial and refugee camps just as often as when they hit their targets, the approaching hordes. In Helsreach, all who could not fight were evacuated in converted super tankers. Those remaining signed their lives over to the Emporer and swore to die standing. Suicide teams armed with homemade bombs sneaked into ork camps and detonated them with horrific results. Dock workers welded themselves into their cranes and battled with Gargants. Inevitably, Helsreach fell. -The Old Man of Armageddon While Helsreach battled in the north Hades resisted. No leeway could be had against Hades, because of one man. Yarrick. The ork horde was led by Ugulhard, one of Ghazghkulls most massive Big Bosses. Waves upon waves of gretchin perished under the defenders fire, only for even more boyz to clamber over their bodies. Battlewagons and gargants stuffed with rokkits soaked up everything that could be thwon at them. Only the Titans of the Iron Skulls were able to punish them back in turn. The orks fought right to the city center, at the Basilica of Saint Cathrine. Yarrick desperately tried to rally his remaining forces. At the pinnicle of the fighting, Yarrick and Ugulhard themselves met. With a mighty roar, Ugulhard snapped Yarricks arm off at the elbow. Ignoring pain so fierce a lesser man would perish, Yarrick calmy hacked off Ugulhards head. Holding the severed power claw aloft, he rallied the imperial forces who counterattacked with a mighty roar. The orks, seeing the death of their warboss, fled. Only when they had deserted the city did Yarrick let himself pass out. -Ghazgkull! With the death of Ugulhard, rumours spread through the ork ranks. They said Yarrick couldn’t be killed, and could kill a man (or, more importantly, and ork,) with a glance. Hearing this, Yarrick had his own eye replaced with a bionic laser. He famously said “if the orks think I have an evil eye, then by the Emperor an evil eye I will have!†With the arrival of Ghazgull, the attacks resumed once more. He tried every strategy his clever (for an ork) brain could think up. Kults of speed revved up in the cover of darkness, only to be hunted by street gangs with rocket launchers. Huge mobs of storm boyz landed in the city center, but Yarrick was prepared, with mined building tops. Ghazgull even mustered every kommando that he could, and sent them in. when the dawn broke, however, not one ork emerged from the sewers. Hades held out for 6 months, but in the end it fell. The few survivors will not speak of it, save to praise Yarrick. -Death from above While Hades fell, Ghazgulls WAAAGH was almost brought to its knees. However, his true cunning was revealed when thousands of reinforcements marched on Tarturus gtom the west. As the assault begain, Dante of the Blood Angels brought his forces back onto their Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers. He launched his entire force, in drop pods, into the center of the ork horde. Though terribly outnumbered, the blood angels were unleashed. They slew any ork unlucky enough to encounter them. When their bolters ran dry, they picked up fallen choppas or used their bare hands. Fully half of the ork horde was annihilated, and it was thought Ghazgull himself fell. This was false, but the boyz still refused to surrender. They made their way to the equatorial jungles were they reside today. Ghazgull fled from the planet, but it was not the last they’ve seen of him. -A plan bears fruit The greatest mistake the imperium made was to think that Ghazgull had been defeated. This was not the case at all. The first invasion was nothing more then a test to see how the imperium would react to such an invasion. After the war, he continued with his ‘master plan’ as revealed to him by Gork and Mork. He continued ‘experiments’ without drawing attention to himself. In 962.M41 an imperial base was wiped out by an ork rok. It slipped by the outposts by appearing no more then an asteroid, but as it neared the base it unleashed its deadly cargo. Later, in 986.M41, Ghazgull allied with Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub. He attacked the world of Piscina IV with a tellyporta located within a hulk a massive distance away. Only the appearance of the Dark Angels saved the world. However, Ghazgulls test was successful. He was ready for the next stage of his WAAAGH!! |
