Is Nuclear Energy the solution to our current energy/global warming crisis? Is it too dangerous? What do you think about this argument? Honestly, I'm all for Nuclear Energy. It doesn't create emissions of any sort, making it a very clean energy source. It is cheaper than almost every energy source, aside from coal. Replacing all of our coal energy usage with Nuclear energy usage would decrease CO2 output by 10% for the ENTIRE PLANET. IMagine the difference it would make on global warming. |

Eh, there are issues and benefits with nuclear energy. Generally I am for it but there are still kinks that need to be ironed out for it to work effectively. Firstly, I agree, its a step in the right direction for the environment. A single atom used in creating nuclear power has something like 1,000 times the energy of a coal molecule, not to mention the reduction in greenhouse emissions. I would have to disagree with the term "Clean energy" however. In fact, one of the only issues with nuclear energy is that it isn't clean. Inevitably, the process leaves us with nuclear waste which needs to be disposed of. That's the issue though, where can we dispose of it? It won't break down, storage facilities are only temporary set-ups and theories about stable bedrock for the waste is still only theory. And for people that argue it's unsafe, Chernobyl was the result of ignorance, poor maintenance and old technology. Its actually as safe as any other energy process today. |

And while it is true that Nuclear Energy creates waste, its also true that there is not a single bit of emission created due to energy generation, which does make it 'clean' for the most part. Currently there is a site setup in the Nevada mountains which should properly maintain the Nuclear Waste while it degrades. |

The nuclear waste will not degrade though. It will literally take millions of years. What happens when we fill the Nevada mountains with waste? Do we just go and ruin a different mountain range? Before nuclear energy is a viable large scale alternative there needs to be a permanent solution. |

Just like our nuclear powered aircraft carriers and subs. They can go for months without having to refuel. |
