Make sure your picture is now selected. Click on the image direction with your cursor and then go to...

Once you have done that, select your blank avatar using your cursor![]() Then go to edit and click on paste. ![]() You will then see your blank avatar is no longer blank and as your image on it. ![]() You can now close your original picture. Keeping the blank avatar with your picture now in it open. |

You need to see your layers to work on the next part, so if layers arent showing open them.

Now you can add a background colour if you wish too. It helps when using filters (which we will use next). I chose pink and filled it with the paint bucket on the tool bar. BE CAREFUL not to put this over your picture, you must have background selected on your layer bar by clicking on it first.![]() |

Now make sure your (shania) picture layer is selected by clicking on it and then go back to your tool bar and go to lasso tool - select lasso tool.

Using the lasso tool make a shape around the face. As untidy as you wish. ![]() Then go to select and click on inverse. ![]() |

Now this is where the fun starts. You will be using filters! For this i chose rough pastels filters because i think it looks good, but please experiment with filters, you can make so many awesome things if you just practice and play with them! The secret is not to be too rigid, just mess about and get to know the filters and what they do to your images. But for now, we are using rough pastels. ![]() |

A box will then come up (depending on which version of photoshop you have - the box may look slightly different). Choose the settings you want. Again its trial and error... just pick and see! If you dont like the result you can undo it.
