A Canadian in Greater Germany

Alan McGill took the train from Hamburg to Berlin. It was a scenic view of the German countryside, displaying lush fields and small German towns. Indeed, in places it reminded him of Canada. It also reminded him of Prime Minister King's message: "Get that agreement." He repeated the words over and over again in his mind. Get that agreement. Get that agreement.

This would be Canada's first official visit to another nation since she received full autonomy in 1931. Indeed, with the massive restructuring following the economic collapse, it was the first external thing the government had done. Hopefully it would meet with success.

The train pulled into the station in Berlin. The Foreign Ministry had arranged McGill's trip beforehand, and he was expecting to be greeted by a German official as he stepped off the train. Instead, he found himself lost in a massive crowd, as a horde of people made their way about the station. He stood almost helpless on the platform, searching around for the official that was supposed to meet him. He dismissed the idea of yelling out, in plain English, "God save Canada!" in hopes of attracting attention. Instead, he simply chose to take a seat on a bench and wait to be found.

This is humiliating, he sat there thinking. My first mission, and I can't even find my way around!
