'Evening everyone (it's 11:26 PM here). I'm Canada, some of you may have encountered me as Nuke elsewhere on the net. I've certainly met a few of you before, and I must say it will be a pleasure RPing with you all. Now, down to business. I will be handling the map. As this is a particularly exclusive crowd, and considering the greater emphasis on our territories in a historical context, I figured it would be best to depart from the traditional "here's a map, now let's play pick-5" setup. Before I make the map, what I would like each of you to do is take a look at a 1936 world political map (attached in the spoiler below). As each of us are RPing a particular nation from the Depression era, I would like for you to take particular notice of your nation's territorial possessions in 1936. Of those possessions, I would like for you to pick what specifically you want to have as part of your nation. I would negotiate and discuss with each other if you want to have possessions that belong to another nation outside your own (e.g. Egypt would quite clearly want some of Britain's North African possessions, but which ones should be decided between the two of them). You can lay a claim to areas of nations that aren't represented by someone in the RP as of yet (e.g. Egypt taking Italian Libya and French Algeria), but I wouldn't become heart-set on these areas given that if someone comes along and wants to RP that particular nation and wants those lands, they would have a sort of "higher claim" to those lands, as they were historically owned by that nation. I would also try to be realistic in those claims. Germany, for instance, would have a rather legitimate claim to much of Central Europe (namely Austria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, and possibly as far south as Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Romania - though the latter two could also potentially go to Italy). Germany taking Brazil, however, is something I would save for the RP, rather than as a starting location (because it is just a wee bit past unrealistic). Once we're all settled on who has what, I will go ahead and make the map. That way, everything is clean, organized, and to everyone's liking. Spoiler: click to toggle

I'll be the USA with a puppet states in Cuba and maybe Latin America to start with. If it's okay with everyone, I'll keep the Commonwealths (Puerto Rico, Philippines) though that's open to objections. I can drop the Philippines if y'all want as they aren't entirely necessary. |

I'm happy to start with the British West Indies, India, South Africa, Kenya and the Gold Coast. As for the Middle East, so long as I have Suez and the Palestine Mandate I'm happy. Obviously, if anyone wants to play India/South Africa, etc., Then i'd very much appreciate an extended Independence Movement roleplay with them. I also think that Germany should roleplay if it wants to start in 1936 with anything beyond the Sudentenland and Rhineland. <irony> I think the rest of Europe might have something to say if they go invading other countries willy-nilly </irony> As for the rest of the British Empire, i'm happy to rule that Australia and Canada have been granted early Self-Autonomy, and will naturally pursue a policy of Imperial favouritism with them, assuming they dont piss us off and start saying things like they dont want their Unofficial Head of State to be His Majesty the King anymore!

Just a reminder that superstates beyond what you have are allowed due to the low number of players we'll be having are acceptable. I think the only ones restricted are nations that already have enough land to be superstates (the USA and the British Empire).

Any possibility for a superstate with the borders of the German and Austro-Hungarian empires combined, plus Luxemburg and Liechtenstein? Germany and the Austrian parts of Austria-Hungary (Austria all the way down to Triest, plus Bohemia-Moravia and Austrian Silesia) would be under the German proper, and the rest would be in personal union with Austria but not parts of the Reich.

I'll be taking Canada, quite obviously. If it is does not bother Britain, I would also like to have Labrador and Newfoundland. And I certainly like the idea of a unified Germany/Austro-Hungarian Empire. I don't think it's entirely without reason for such an state to have existed, and we do need a fairly high degree of consolidation. Edited by Canada, Jul 14 2009, 10:47 PM.

It's basically a slightly modified "Grossdeutschland" scenario from the 19th Century. |
