THE RULES!
---
Overriding principle – We’re enacting a one and done policy. Warnings, suspensions, treating people like adults has failed to produce any tangible results. Growing up, when we played superheroes, the kid who had to always win, typically didn’t get invited back to play. Same goes for a table top RPG. If someone acted the way some of you do, that person would not be invited back. It’s time to end that. The people who cause headaches are typically always the same people, and they have all been warned many, many times. Consider this the final warning! Rules: 0) What the staff says go. If you have a problem with something a staff member did or is doing, contact them CIVILY and privately about it. No whispering behind their backs, or posting snide comments. No sending them nasty, personal attack via PMs or emails. If you cannot resolve the issue with that person, let skitch know. If the staff feels this is an issue that should be made public WE will do it. Do not take this upon yourself. That includes PMs, IMs, and emails. Whispering campaigns or whining topics solve nothing and just create bad blood. ANY violation of this rule will result in immediate removal from the game. 1) Have fun and respect the fact that other players and staff are just trying to have fun, too. Don’t take things too seriously or personally. If you are pissed off about someone or something, walk away for a little while. Talking about something when you are angry is going to do no good. There is no need to create drama over silly things. NO ONE IS TRYING TO ATTACK YOU! They are just trying to make the best possible game they can. If you can't resolve things in a civilized, private manner then bring it to me. If you can't have a civilized conversation with someone, DON'T TALK TO THEM! The board has an ignore feature, if you have to use it, then use it! 2) No nasty posts, personal insults, personal attacks. No passive aggressive nonsense. No nasty whispering behind people’s backs. If you have a problem, talk to who is causing that problem, in a civil way. Deal with the issue at hand; don’t bring up a million things from the past or attack them on a personal level. It solves nothing and just creates problems for everyone. Obviously, there is a lot of kidding around here, but we are all adults here and should know the difference between teasing and going too far. 3) Talking with me about a story idea hypothetically is not getting permission. Nothing is approved until we have a specific plan of attack (when, how, who, etc), and the GM clearly say, “Yes!” The GM “not saying no” is not the same thing. 4) This place is a shared game. Your character is not the most important one here. Neither are any of mine. 5) I have no problem with criticism, but try to be constructive. Saying you don’t like a storyline, mission, or character tells me just about nothing. Be honest with me. I am always looking for good feedback to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Also, try to keep an open mind. Just because you don’t enjoy something doesn’t meant the other players aren’t. Completely shutting yourself off from the possibility of liking something is just unfair to the GMs and other players. 6) I am not too concerned about cursing, but don’t go overboard. If a staff member asks you to cool it because it’s becoming a distraction, then do it. 7) In the Missions, events, and in character social sections, try to keep posts in character. If you have an Out Of Character comment, question, or concern, pop it over in one of the other sections. Since this game is more about fun then rules, I don't mind some violations to this rule, but make sure you don't overdo it and make it clear you are posting out of character (use tags!). If another player or staff member asks you to stop, please do 8) Unless you have permission from the other player AND the GM, do not control another player’s character in a social topic or mission. For a fan fic, asking permission is usually the best course of action, but I understand that sometimes you want to sneak in a character as a surprise. Just understand that the player or a GM might ask you to remove it. 9) We do a lot of long term story planning, and I am very flexible, but I need to know about things to incorporate them. If you plan on doing a fanfic or social topic that seems like it will be something major, run it by your GM. Here's a list that is nowhere near comprehensive: if you are introducing a new character that will show up outside than fanfic, bringing a character back, having a guest star from the Marvel universe, killing a character, developing a major plot point for your character, building on a plot point from a mission or something done by another character. And technology like Iron Man Suits, Pym Particles, and Captain America shields are not just lying everywhere! If you think there is even a slight possibility a GM should see it first, than show them. I really don’t want to have to do a “run everything by me before you do it” system, but if people keep gaming the system, then I’m gonna have no choice. NO ONE WOULD WANT THAT! 10) We will be posting solicits for missions at least a few days in advance. If you definitely won’t be able to make a mission, just let me know. I hate planning certain things only to find out SURPRISE that person isn’t there. Also (and this isn’t a rule as much as a request), if you aren’t at a mission, please don’t tell me that you were off doing playing another game or watching a TV show or reading a book or whatever. I understand we all have lives, but it genuinely hurts me when I hear people saying, “Sorry I missed the mission, I was playing WoW.” I make the time to run this game for you guys, the least you can do is not throw it in my face that this wasn’t your main priority. 11) If you want to make your character a loner or give them an annoying personality trait, that is your choice. It could even provide some great characterization for you. BUT, if you do, you need to be aware that by doing so, you give up your right to whine about "why does no one want to interact with my character?" 12) Do not use an NPC in an event, social, or mission without explicit GM permission. That said, I am pretty comfortable with you guys using most characters, so just ask. 13) Keep Out-Of-Character feelings separate from In Character interactions. This is ROLE PLAYING! Just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean you have to be nasty and sarcastic to their character every chance you get. 14) On X-Men, you’re allowed one character. Unless you have GM permission first, don’t have both characters show up in the same social, event, or mission. Do not swap your character without GM permission. 15) For The Brigade, you can only have one player character. 16) I am pretty flexible, but I do ask that people not take advantage. I really don’t wanna have to ruin people’s fun, but there have been many times I’ve felt that my generous nature was taken advantage of. I am going to ask the other staff that when you see me bending too much to point it out to me. 17) Real life comes first! That goes for the staff and the players!
