Pretty much what I'm thinking. Maybe this just isn't the edition for chaos for this fella. Guess I will continue chugging away at my Astral Claws and Marines Malevolent.... and maybe, just maybe, I'll pick up HH: Betrayal and those tasty Legion army lists.... |

Or...find a group that does a bit of more casual style playing, with campaigns and such. One thing with 2nd ed is that most people view it through rose-tinted glasses. The game itself was badly balanced, but the player environment was for the most part non-competitive. There were campaigns in WD and I remember us having campaigns of our own. You had your codex and then a bunch of extra rules from a few WD to run around with. Playing against the early Necron-list with only two unit entries(or was it three, don't remember) before they got the green weapon thingys...and man were they deadly back then too! (damn scarabs ate my tanks always!) A change of climate would do you well I think. Either playing-climate or army, or legion... |

That's the thing, my gaming community is all about the story, the fluff, the fun. WAAC players usually find themselves without games very quickly 'round here, and considering where I live, there's no where else to go play anyone else. I look at 2nd Ed. with rose tinted glasses for the simple fact that it was when I got into chaos and 40k in general, not because the rules were good (cuz they weren't, lol). |

Just do what I do and lurk on the Serpent's Lair and Night Lords forums.

*snort* Well, I'd thought about Night Lords for a while, but, although I love their stories and fluff, their tactics don't really fit my mindset (too many years in the Army, I think). Alpha Legion, I have a soft spot for, but I can't really dig the CIA style tactics. I'm not a Company man (again, too many years in the Army, lol) and perfer kicking in doors over decades long cautious planning. |

You don't have to join them, just look at what other people have come up with. Sometimes that can work as inspiration. |

1000heathens, your name suggests that you want to make a renegade DIY chapter!

Finding an inspiration is a tricky thing and sometimes you can find it from unexpected sources. I really only own two armies, Necrons and Raven Guards, but I tend to sometimes get bored of one (or both) and try to find inspiration from other sources. Hanging around this forum, writing stories and talking about Chaos stuff has, for example, given me new inspiration about my Necron Dynasty and now I'm ready to add a renegade cult allies to my main Necron army. I also agreed with one of my regular gaming friends that we will play a campaign which will be about Imperial Guard trying to detain a Cultist rebellion just to find out that the Cultists have Necrons backing them up. We purposefully chose this plot to motivate me to paint all those cultists and to motivate him to assemble and paint all those half-a-dozen Imperial Guard tanks he has sitting in boxes still... Anyway, I recommend getting the Horus Heresy Betrayal book even if you wouldn't start a Heresy Era army. The book is nice, really high quality stuff and the fluff about the Isstvaan III battle and the Legions is excellent. I'm sure you will enjoy just reading it and it might give inspiration for something... Hell, I'm still thinking about if I should sell off the Dark Vengeance set chaos marines and make the Pale Hounds purely out of Forge World Mk III and IV power armour... |

Chaos Space Marine

I'm going to suggest two things to you heathens: 1) Let this army spark you off and make you collect/play Iron Warriors again. Because this is the army that turned me to Chaos Space Marines and I don't really care about the current fluff, to be honest. I still cherish that magnificent Index Astartes article about the Iron Warriors and go by that. Fug the new stuff. It's cool, but it doesn't fit my vision of Chaos or Iron Warriors well. So I say fug it. 2) You're an Army sort of man? Go Imperial Guard! Or even Traitor Guard! Or Renegade Guard! So many possibilities! Forge World has magnificent tanks (have you seen those new super-heavies? Have you seen that Praetor? Have you seen that damn Macharius tank? Don't tell me you don't want one of those) and epic conversion kits, but loads of other small companies have some really good-quality kits and bits that are a damn nice. I have so much stuff I can pass on to you to get that spark of creativity back if you want to do Guard. Just drop me PM over on the B&C and I'll get some stuff sorted

Yeah, you're Calvary. Maybe it's time to show that on the board. Make an army that gives the Blood Pact a run for its money. |
