With the changes to a few of the units in the new codex, I find that how my Alpha Legion army works and looks may no longer be a viable concept anymore. Rather than rage quit, because my favored army no longer works anymore, I've decided to expand out to take on another Legion. I mentioned in another thread on here that I may switch to another Chaos faction army wise ( I'll most likely stay within the concept of an undivided army) and looking at my options, I have Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Black Legion ,and Word Bearers as choices.

Now the Word Bearers intrigue me. They are the antithesis of the way my Alpha Legion worked (WB tends to have lots of daemon allies, whereas my AL never used any) and I am heavily considering them, but I need some information first before a final consideration and decision can be made, as I will not have the new book in my hands until the 15th of this month. Please remember that these questions are not only to get a sense of what falls where in a list, but also will help me plan what models to get.

Question # 1: As I understand it, The Dark Apostle is an HQ, is this correct? Are there any limitations to him leading an army as it's warlord?

Question # 2: Possessed were Elites in the last codex, are they still Elites or did they switch FOC?

Question # 3: I know Cultists are back in the book as Troops, are normal CSM still troops?

Question # 4: Is the Defiler still in the book as a Heavy Support?

Question # 5: Am I correct in assuming that the Heldrake is a Fast Attack choice, and the 2 Dinobots are Heavy Supports?

Question # 6: As I understand it, all daemons of any kind are no longer in the book, and must be taken from the Daemon book as Allies, is this correct?

And Question # 7: Oblits were heavy support last codex, are they still a heavy support choice, and where do the Mutilators fall in the FOC?

Any help that anyone that already has the codex can give me would be greatly appreciated.

1: He is an HQ but I do not know about the Warlord situation as I do not have the BRB.

2: Possessed are still Elites and they can now take Marks and Icons.

3: Both Cultists and Normal CSM are Troops. Only the Cult Marines made the transition to Elites.

4: Yes.

5: Yes, the Heldrake is Fast Attack and the Fiends are Heavy Support.

6: Yes.

7: Oblits are still Heavy Support. Mutilators are Elites.

Thanks Kol.

Hmm, from what I'm understanding so far, from both Kol and what I've learned from others, I'm possibly looking at this type of setup ( Looking at both Double FOC and Allies):

Main Army

Dark Apostle
Coryphaus in Termie armor (Term Chaos lord)
First Acolyte (PA Chaos Lord)

Gal Vorbak (Possessed squad)
Term Squad w/ Land Raider
1-2 Chosen squads
Dreadnought

4 or more Cultist squads
2 CSM squads

Biker squad
possibly Raptor squad
Heldrake

Predator
Vindicator
Havoc Squad
Defiler
one of the Fiends (leaning Forgefiend)

Daemon Allies

Herald of Khorne ( might use FW herald)
5 Beasts of Nurgle ( I already have 3)
Bloodletter squad (herald goes in unit)
5 Screamers
Seeker Cavalcade (3 Chariots)

For Apoc (I have most of this already):

2 Hellblades (Needs to be built and painted)
Helltalon (Needs to be built and painted)
2 Warhounds (one is already painted as Flaming Skulls)
Reaver Titan (needs to be painted)
Decimator

Hmm, that sounds about right.

Yeah I think I'll do it. ;)

LOL yeah I know, but I tend not to do armies only "halfway", for lack of better term and, most certainly, no intended offense to anyone else on how they build their army.

When I do an Army, I try to consider not only fluff and normal game sizes, but also Apoc, Cities of Death, and Kill Team, when I'm planning and building it.

I'll most likely figure out later how I want to build a Fortress of Redemption (well, a Fortress of Corruption for us Chaos guys) for the army.

Well, you're doing Word Bearers so in my very humble opinion, jacking the Fortress of Redemption would seem like a good idea since it already looks part-Cathedral. Can't say anymore on decorations because the only ideas I happen to have after that are for mine. :P

Looks like pretty awesome list projectwise. Lots of things to covert and paint and should look pretty damn great once finished.

Honestly, I might scratch build the fortress, to be more cathedral like and less outpost looking.

Thank you.

Believe it or not, there won't be that much true converting involved, beyond the Fortress. I can use the pads from GW for the infantry (I'm at a loss for what to do about the termies though), and FW doors on most of the vehicles.

I am hoping that the non-crozius arm on the apostle model doesn't come attached and only has a nub there for it to socket on. It would make it a bit more comforting on me if it's like that, as I could then replace the arm with a WB pad easier, instead of chopping off the whole arm.

Fair enough on the Fortress. If you want, Insane Psychopath over on B&C just bought a Dark Apostle so you can ask him about that.

Funny enough after I posted that, I called my local Bunker and asked the manager (who is a friend of mine) how many pieces the Apostle came in and how it went together.

Looks like I'll have to do some cutting as the arm in question is molded on the model. However, the chest piece which I was worried about screwing up while cutting isn't an issue as it IS a separate piece, so it's easily doable.

I did go look at Psycho's stuff and I may have to rip that Vindi barrel idea from him...
