Founding Second founding chapter with Roboute Guilliman as there Primarch. Colour Scheme Dark grey with light grey shoulder guards and metallic weapons Home World To describe Perun it is best to imagine old Earth and then replace the water in the oceans with promethium, the skies with vast storm clouds of acidic rain powerful enough to reduce even a titan to molten slag and finally remove all trace of colour leaving only a landscape of drab grey. The human population live underground in hollowed out caves. This is at odds with the primitive level of black powder technology of the current civilisation. This may indicate just how far the Perunish fell during old night. Further evidence of there once technological mastery can be found on Perun’s single moon of Atlos upon which still stands the ruins of a mighty starport. In the current era, Atlos is home to civilisation once more. Functioning as it does as a starport, training facility and housing the chapter’s astropaths. Unlike the world it orbits, Atlos is rich with life perhaps showing what Perun might once have looked like. Over 65% of Perun consists of promethium oceans* with a single landmass making up the remaining 35%. If one were to walk upon the surface, they would discover two things. First that the ground is more durable than the armoured shell of an imperator. Second that the world is not lifeless and in fact is testament to the adaptability of nature. Of the few creatures evolved to exist on such a hostile world it is the wolves which we shall focus on. To call them wolves is to call a mouse a whale for they share little resemblance to the wolves of Earth. Averaging at sizes akin to an African elephant and with the same grey hue of such animals. They are covered in layers of natural chitin, which grows and sheds seemingly without pause. This armour extends even over their heads like a natural umbrella and conceals the small squashed features and mandibles. They exist on a diet of anything having developed stomach(s) capable of digesting virtually anything and are solitary except during breeding season or when fighting territorial disputes. Indeed, it is this last part that is the reason the chapter took the name ‘Wolves of Perun’. These animals are incredibly stubborn and will protect their territory to the death. Given the armoured protection of their bodies, these battles can last for days with each combatant using their own bodies as battering rams. This refusal to back down is found within the spirit of the Space Marines for they like there animal counterparts will fight on even to death. * The mechanicus maintains several heavily protected rigs and extracts the oil under the chapters watchful gaze History There is little official history on the Wolves of Perun save for notable battles. Of these, the most renowned is the defence of Krai. Krai was and remains an unimportant world in the grand scale of the Imperium. Such insignificance did not prevent it from receiving the attentions of Hive Fleet: Megalodon. In the face of the Tyranid onslaught, the population fled on mass to the fortress capital and prayed for deliverance. Thankfully, for the people of Krai their prayers were answered by the third company of the Wolves of Perun. Alongside elements of the Imperial Navy, they forced the hive fleet to retreat allowing the marines to deploy in defence of the capital. Quickly reinforcing the defences the marines led the Krai Hussars in a bitter two-month long siege. Eventually the ships of the fifth and eighth companies arrived in orbit and with the bulk of the tyranids pinned to the walls of Krai’s capital. The newly arrived marines launched a hammer blow with a drop pod assault against the rear-guard of the enemy devastating the xenos. The remainder were then eradicated caught as they were between the guns of the defenders and their reinforcements. The True History – Civil War The following is known only to the Wolves of Perun. If the imperium is actually aware of the real history of the chapter. Then for now, it is turning a blind eye and focusing on things far more pressing. Despite what they may claim and is written in the records of the Adeptus Terra. The chapter is not wholly of Ultramarines lineage and instead a number (decreasing) of marines carry the gene-seed of Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors. Originally, a garrison detachment of 700 marines tasked with maintaining order and shipments of promethium for the crusade. Such overkill is symptomatic of the paranoid nature of the Iron Warriors for it is likely that a single squad could just have easily maintained order without difficulty. Perun was amongst the first worlds conquered by the Iron Warriors and taken before the legion was reunited with their gene-father. Indeed, it is recorded that Perturabo made a single visit and left after reducing the garrison down to three hundred. Therefore, when the heresy broke it is of little surprise that the garrison did not wholly support their Primarch. When word reached them of the rebellion the garrison found itself divided practically fifty-fifty. Soon a civil war raged between those who remained loyal to the Emperor and those who wished to side with Horus. By this time, Perun had been all but forgotten and its garrison reduced to around one hundred fifty. In the early stages of the war, the garrisons only ship the strike cruiser ‘Iron Hound’ was crippled beyond repair. It is not known which side wrecked the ship but now stuck upon Perun and with off-world communication made impossible by the polluted atmosphere and jamming by both sides. The two forces began to recruit the locals to their cause. At first, this was simply to reinforce the marines but as fighting began to claim more and more astartes lives both sides began to utilise their human support. To begin with, humans were augmented to become lesser versions of astartes. Then as the war raged on the marines on both sides began to actively recruit and transform humans into Space Marines. In this regard, the loyalists were to have the upper hand for they had three apothecaries to the traitor’s one. Yet with lack of resources needed to create a space marine even having greater expertise was of little use. Many of the earliest attempts resulted in insane deformed freaks, which died within days of creation. In the end, the greater numbers of apothecaries allowed the loyalists to better control and improve how they recruited. This combined with the ever-increasing desperation of the traitors of which the infamous ‘herding’ tactic would see vast numbers of human soldiers switch sides. Led to their eventual defeat. By the time, the last bolt round echoed signalling victory the Siege of Terra was already underway. Of this, the Iron Warriors of Perun knew nothing until much later when the Ultramarines arrived. With victory, the loyalist Iron Warriors completed the removal of the stain of dishonour and fully embraced the name given to them by the human soldiers. From that day, forth they were known only as Wolves of Perun. The True History - The Ultramarines When the Ultramarine’s 16th Company arrived in orbit of Perun, they discovered the drifting hulk of Iron Hound. As soon as the allegiance of the derelict ship was, realised Captain Borias ordered his warriors to make planet fall. Expecting to have to fight a dug in force of traitors, Borias instructed the pilots of his Stormbirds and Thunderhawks to open fire on anything not displaying Ultramarine colours. For their part, the rechristened Iron Warriors had no knowledge of wider events. Therefore, when the first Ultramarine transports pierced the storm-churned skies they opened fire. Immediately the Ultramarines responded targeting and destroying the missile batteries. With their limited air defences all but wiped out the Wolves prepared to receive the unknown enemy under the belief that they were traitors come to reinforce the counterparts on the planet. It was then just as further bloodshed was about to break out that the Word Bearers arrived. Seeing the small fleet of the 16th and desiring only to wreak punishment on the heathen lackeys of the False-Emperor. Lord Rian ordered his Battle Barge ‘Unholy Victory’ to attack taken by the surprise the 16th fleet scattered under the fury of the larger ships guns. Taking up orbit of Perun the daemonic sensors of Unholy Victory revealed the presence of Iron Warriors and hated scions of Guilliman. Seeing an opportunity to ally with the Iron Warriors and inflict carnage upon the Ultramarines for the defeat at Calth. The Word Bearers launched a full-scale assault only to discover their own transports coming under fire as they breached the atmosphere. Upon seeing this Captain Borias, himself having been unaware of the new enemy until this point, immediately reacted with commendable speed and ordered his Ultramarines to only fire at the Word Bearers. The Wolves under the command of Captain Jarl took upon themselves a decision that would decide their future. With no information on whom was potential friend or foe Jarl ordered his remaining missile batteries to target the Word Bearers. It is not recorded why Jarl decided to fight only the Word Bearers perhaps he judged them the greater threat. It is likely we shall never know for Jarl would die fighting only a day, later his reasons for choosing lost with him. This unofficial alliance was at first uncoordinated and the Word Bearers were able to land troops in several uninhabited parts of the Wolves underground fortress. Soon the ally’s communication problems were solved and with the fleet returning to cripple the ‘Unholy Wrath’ in a codex perfect execution. The allies were able to force the traitors on to the defensive and though it took many months of bitter fighting, they wiped the traitors out to the last man. The True History – Aftermath The Word Bearers defeated a dialogue was opened up to discuss the future of the loyalist Iron Warriors. Borias himself sent word of the loyalists to his Primarch requesting that they by absorbed into the 16th and commending their bravery. Word was soon received from the Battle-King granting permission and informing Borias that the implementation of ‘Chapters’ had begun. Under the orders received, the 16th was to be one of those destined to become a chapter. Having witnessed first-hand, the fierce never say die attitude of the Wolves. Borias announced to the unanimous cheers of both Ultramarine and loyalist Iron Warriors that they were to form a new force and in honour of those fallen to the traitors. They would be known as ‘Wolves of Perun’. Organisation and Combat Doctrine- Like many of the successor chapters of the Ultramarines, the Wolves of Perun follow standard codex organisation. The only real point of difference is company markings where company colours are displayed on the ultramarines icon with a black wolves head in the centre. The chapter also boasts no librarius this is combination of having no librarians to begin with and a highly paranoid human culture that frequently burn suspected witches often with dubious proof. Having absorbed this hatred of sorcery through recruitment the chapter is often seen as highly dogmatic in its viewpoint and the chapels within the fortress-monastery are far larger than would be expected. When it comes to fighting, the chapter follows the codex for the most part. Only when it comes to assaulting an enemy does the chapter stray and actively injects timed muscle stimulants into their assaulting forces. These combat-drugs were used heavily during the civil war in order that the short-lived new marines would inflict maximum damage. With better access to technology and now able to recruit more safely than before one would expect such usage to cease. Borias understood though that the use of combat-drugs whilst distasteful was a core part of around 30% of his forces. With this in mind and not wishing to fracture the new chapter, before it had really even begun he instructed that the use of combat-drugs would be permitted. This ruling would be amended later so that only those of Iron Warrior stock were allowed to receive the injections. Beliefs Recruiting from a highly religious population has led the chapter to venerate the Emperor as a god. They believe firmly that they are his wrath given form and that no traitor, heretic, or xenos should suffer no less than a complete annihilation. They will not relent in this pursuit of total victory until they or the enemy are dead. This has led the chapter to be frequently below half strength and when defeated in such away they will often return later enacted bloody retribution on the foe. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do you think? Any parts that need explaining better? Perun is the Slavic god of thunder/war and is symbolised by an eagle. He defends his people from Veles a snake/dragon god of the underworld Perun = Emperor Veles = Chaos Edit - Added colour scheme Edited by Yaj, Aug 6 2012, 08:51 AM.

To be honest, all of this looks good. Different, perhaps, but good. However, throughout your entire article I kept coming across one problem. You don't know how to use commas. You didn't even use any! Ok, so here's the basic rule - if you have a complete thought (X did Y) and want to continue the sentence after that thought then you use a comma to seperate the two thoughts. Two most common examples - X did Y, Z, and A - I like the Word Bearers, Red Scorpions, and Wolves of Perun. X did Y, and then Z did A - I like the Word Bearers, and then Eetion made New Badab. I don't mean to school you on this but it completely jarred my reading experience and it's really distracting

I tend to remember things off the top of my head as opposed to checking, so please excuse and correct any official fluff mistakes I make. A lot of it also personal interpretation and theory, so feel free to disagree as well, I won't mind | |

I really should learn to proof read and not write at one in the morning! I must also stop relying on Word 2010 to correct or add in punctuation. I'll post up a revised version asap. Thanks for the comments. |

Looks good... just 1 question if I may. Why Wolves of Perun, given the UM + IW origins... The Wolves dont seem to quite fit either faction. Steel Consuls or Iron praetors would seem to mix if you get the idea, but Wolves hints at space world lineage... Of course stick with wolves of Paerun if you like, just something that jumperd out at me. |

Wolves sound awesome. Besides, the name of wolves need so much help after the Space Wolves prove it's so failure. |

The name was given to them by the human soldiers during the civil war. The marines reminded them of animals called Wolves which live on the surface. When the chapter was formely established the name was retained to honour those who had died and it was a name some 30% of the new chapter had been using for sometime. Borias, ultramarine captain and first chapter master, didn't want to cause a rift between the two halves of the new force. True they'd probably win any resulting conflict but against the iron warriors it would have been long, bloody and bitter. The new chapter might not have been able to survive in the long run after such a war. Hmm, I think that makes sense. Oh, and Wolves of Perun just sounds good to me. |
