Hive Fleet - *Insert Name Here*

Begining work on my Hive Fleet background but struggling to think of a name that fits.

The basic background revolves around a nid army whose more evolved/larger creatures bury themselves deep within a planets crust. When the imperium sanctions exterminatus these creatures survive in a form of suspended animation. The broken pieces of planet now drift through space. Just occassionaly one of these rocks will impact on a planet and the sleeping monsters will awaken...

As far as I know there is no official hive fleet with similar fluff. Now hive fleets tend to be named after mythical monsters so any suggestion for a fitting monster name?

thanks.

Well. I'd stick with basic nid Modes of transport, flying chunks of rock would take millenia between worlds, and when the Imperium destroys a planet its more of a strip it of life rather than shatters it. In fact iv only heard of the Blackstone fortresses and the Planet Killer destroying the way your thinking.
In short, flying chunks of rock rarely (if ever) happen so is too slow and too unreliable.

As for a name, they tend to go for dramatic mythical beast type names, behemouth, kraken, Leviathan. So perhaps consider names like Hydra, Titan, Gorgon and the like.

Standard hive fleet? No that's just plain dull. Your right though the rock filled nids idea wouldn't work with out some changes. How about adding the two together? The nids being the highly adatable race might 'convert' the chunks of planet to suit there needs and then send them scattering through space. In this way they would have a sort of scouting force which who could then signal the main hive fleet(s). Since the hiding nids and the rock are virtually indistingushable to imperial scans they could bypass a good deal of imperial defences.

I've got to research how nids travel in space so the idea may be scrapped if unworkable. I'll research exterminatus methods as well to see if a planet can be destroyed in the manner I'm thinking of.

Thanks for the names but alot of them are already taken. I'm after something along those lines though but I'd prefer names of less well known monsters.

There you go.

Also to note. I also remember that when on approach to a planet their mode of transport causes significant sizemic activity resulting in natural disasters before the nids even get there.

You have Genestealer hiding aboard space hulks as well and their 'impregnation' of humans thus the transfer of Genestealer cults.

I personally think nid travel is one of the more interesting out there.

I always refer to one of my fleets as Kappa. Is that an existing Hive Fleet? I know it's a reference to something, and it's a good name when you just pronounce it, but I can't remember where it's from... :/
I tend to remember things off the top of my head as opposed to checking, so please excuse and correct any official fluff mistakes I make. A lot of it also personal interpretation and theory, so feel free to disagree as well, I won't mind

This sounds like it could be the setup to a decent Godzilla movie, but Hive Fleet Kaiju seems a little too obvious. On the other hand, Godzilla has had an opponent with a specialization in drilling, and that fits your theme. How does Hive Fleet Moguera sound to you?

Forgot about this.

Scraping the 'nids in rocks' idea and replacing it with having them in a single 'super' hive ship. I'm looking at using names of prehistoric predators.

Hive Fleet: Megaladon
Hive Fleet: Jaekelopterus - I have know idea how to pronounce that! Giant space scorpion sounds cool to me at least.
Hive Fleet: Helicoprion
Hive Fleet: Livyatan
Hive Fleet: Sarcosuchus

Megalodon. Simple, easy, brutal and intimidating.
