iPhone 4 iPhone 4 was just announced at WWDC 2010 and to tell you the truth, it looks awesome. I (Joe) being a previous iPhone user was satisfied with my mobile phone. I got the 3G and wanted to get the 3GS until the leaks of the iPhone 4 prototype came out. Trust in me that at first, I wasn't too impressed with just the information about the front facing camera and the new design. I was a bit skeptical with the glass front and back and the slightly smaller screen. But all that skepticism went away when I actually watched the keynote via live blog on Engadget. I don't know if it was the new higher resolution display or the video calls that got me but I have to be honest when I first watched the commercial for "Facetime" when a series of people where using the iPhone to communicate to each other without having to sign up to an external service and no setup required. Then the commercial continued on with a soldier and his wife/girlfriend talking to each other in what apparently was a long distance call. Then the real tear jerker (Yeah I said it!) was when two people where communicating in sign language. Now I don't know about you but I can only imagine the difficulty of being able to place a voice to text call let alone see the other person while on that call and fully see what their talking about through sign language. I get a lot....A LOT.... of crap from my friends for at least respecting Apple in their research to bringing people together through technology, but its the fact that they can do it in a seamless and simple way while not compromising features (Unless your talking about MMS). I have heard the same thing time and time again "This is what the iPhone should have been" but think about it. For the time and technology, there was just no idea what could be possible on these handsets. Unfortunately, it's still on AT&T and there has been no talks about a Verizon handset but yet there is still no talk about another contract with At&t. So you really have to pay attention to the business moves that carriers have already started to make. At&t has done away with their unlimited data plan and has raised the early termination fee. They are preparing for people to join up with At&t and keeping them under their thumb for what seems to be a safety net for something else to hit the market which will draw away customers from At&t. Verizon CEO has been keeping his mouth shut by neither confirming or denying an Apple iPhone handset for their CDMA network but has been quoted to accept an iPhone product with open arms. There has to be more to this and if history repeats itself then I can be confident in saying that Apple will release something in 6 months. Might be an iPhone 4G (Note: G meaning At&t finally stepping up to the plate), a 4G (Other carrier/Open carrier) or another "S" model with just faster performance. I think Apple will continue its business model and release something new every 6 months to replace your old. However, I also think that you might start seeing more updates via software than hardware seeing as the iPhone 4 with its A4 Processor can handle plenty of new software to come for a while. This was heavily demonstrated when the 3G was suddenly replaced with the 3G S. Seeing as the hardware was not fast enough or capable of showing off the new firmware planned for this year ( iOs4 ). The system memory of the 3G was not big enough to show off all the new features of the iOs4 and the first gen iPhone is just cut out completely from this upgrade. So lets think about it a little deeper and look at the hardware. If the A4 processor is now standard for their upcoming software release then it is safe to say that the older styles, including the 3G S will become unusable in say two years or less. Meaning that Apple development will slowly stop support for all three previous models and force the consumer to upgrade. This is not a new concept but then look at the big picture. I can not remember a time where phones, including the Moto RAZR lasted more than a few months as being a standard for other companies. I also cannot remember a time where the Phone manufacturer governed what seemed to be a huge wave of consumers to suddenly change carriers (and a crappy carrier at that) just from a single keynote/unveil. I also cannot remember a time where the phone manufacturer had a dedicated team to supply several updates to make the phone better and at the same time making it a choice for the consumer to download and install these updates instead of it being a carrier decision. Those days should be long gone and though we start to see a new era of smartphones becoming the norm, I can honestly say that Apple has built a standard for smartphones and the way we use them. Question, if you where to find out that an iPhone 4 where to ever come to Verizon, would you wait for it and hold out on At&t or just get on the bandwagon and experience it day one just to cancel for a massive hit at your wallet. |

Answer: You would get an Android phone regardless. You said it yourself. They are just going to push out an updated model in 6 months. Where if you get say... the EVO, you would already have the iPhone 4, minus the screen, and not have to worry about new hardware for 2 years, as Android would just update with the new features. I lold when I read the press release for this... "so... hmm.. that's it? A new screen, and front camera? Seems to me they should have just released this as the 3Gx or something like that." |

Still rockin the G1. I put a custom firmware onto it so I have almost the most recent Android version now. As a T-Mobile subscriber, my other options are the MyTouch, and the Nexus One. I do like the Nexus One... but I'm seeing what is coming in the next few months before I get anything else. Edited by NerdJunkies Clay, Jun 13 2010, 05:38 PM.

That EVO 4G from Sprint is still on my mind. But only if it wasn't on Sprint. They need to hurry on up with a different carrier version. |

I'm still iffy, the whole antenna issue is being exagerated. If it was any other brand phone, it wouldn't get this much heat to be perfectly honest. I'm not agreeing with their decision to blast other brands, as of matter of fact, I'm extremely pissed over that fact. But in a technical point of view, what do we tell our end-users when they do something that messes up their computers and we can't fix that "Dont do that then...click", Its honestly what Apple has decided to do, plus in my opinion, who the hell grips their phone that hard. I sure as hell don't but thats because I have GIGANTIC HANDS! Posted Image |
