"Well..."Jin started, "As logical as it sounds at the moment, I don't think splitting up would be ideal. I mean, what if there's some really dangerous stuff out there that can't be handled by just one person? There's a possibility we could each be killed." Jin folded his arms. "You've got a point there...so what do you suggest?" Zara responded, tapping her foot impatiently on the ground. "I think we should stay as a group and seek out each item. I mean if we're all traveling together, with your help Zara, we should be able to locate each thing within a day. Then we should have a full day to get back. right?" "Seems reasonable enough..." Shadow agreed. "Alright, now that that's settled, let's get a fucking move on already!" Zara shouted. The three young ninjas sprang from their position and out of the training ground. They covered much ground in a few minutes and arrived at the eastern gate of the village shortly after leaving the training ground. Though before they passed through the security check point, Zara placed her hand on Jin's shoulder. "That kunai....the second one....it has a scent on it." "A scent?" Jin was puzzled. "Yeah, a scent. Not yours, but from another...I think it's a hint...I'm picking up the same scent farther out there." She pointed out into the forest before them. "I think it leads to our next destination." "That's great!" Jin said excitedly. "Let's go then! You lead, Zara." "Fine with me." Zara shot forward into the dense forest, leaving Jin and Shadow behind. They looked at each other, nodded, and followed quickly after her. --- They had been traveling half a day and their destination seemed to be a nearby mountain. It was a fairly short one, it's peak wasn't even covered in snow. They had decided to set up camp for the afternoon, so they were all seated in a small clearing, taking a breather. They had been traveling at full speed for hours and their bodies were not yet accustomed to such stress. Tala was even fatigued, she lay sprawled out on her back panting heavily. Jin was seated with his back to a thick tree, Shadow was on the other side of the tree, and both were panting as well. Zara was seated on a low hanging branch some feet above them, trying to stabilize her breathing. "I think we're getting close, the scent is become stronger. If we're lucky we should reach the mountain before nightfall." "Ahh good. We should be on schedule then." Jin was still panting. "We should set up camp again once we reach it....Also, since we have no clue whether or not that 11th squad went missing because of the lizard, like Shadow expects, we have to be extremely careful when trying to get these things. So..." Jin stood up and looked at up at Zara, "You're gonna do a bit of reconnaissance." "Sounds good to me..."Zara sighed. "Hey..." Shadow said from behind the tree, "You think whatever up there is dangerous?" "Most likely..." Jin said in a low tone. "Good..." A smirk appeared across Shadow's face. |

Shadow sighed a little, and Jin verbalized her thoughts. "So if we pass this..." he started. "Correction, when we pass this." Zara interrupted. "Yeah, so when we pass this, we'll be the first squad this guy teaches, considering he failed 10 squads, and the other one... you know.' "And?" Zara raised and eyebrow. "I'm happy to burst his bubble. Nobody is gonna fail me, not in a million years. What kind of ninja would I be if I couldn't complete a simple scavenger hunt?" "Agreed." Shadow nodded. "I wouldn't be able to live with myself." she started stabbing her kunai into the ground, making tiny holes. "What do you think happened to the people he failed?" "I guess you can go back to the academy for another year, maybe two." Jin swallowed hard. "But eventually if you fail and get sent back enough times, they as you to choose some other type of profession." his voice became colder, stern. Shadow could hear Des's influence in his voice. "Our village is one of high standards. Everyone is allowed to try to be a ninja, but they reserve the right to refuse you if you aren't up to par. That's just the way it is. It's just life." The three sat silent for a long time, even Shadow had stopped digging in the dirt. Only the sound of their panting remained. "So..." Zara chuckled a bit. " What would you be if you couldn't be a ninja Jin?" "You mean before or after my father breaks my neck?" Jin forced a laugh through his all too serious mouth. "I never thought about it before." he sighed deeply. "Shadow?" "I dunno." She began digging in the dirt again. "I guess when I was little, I wanted to be a teacher. I read lots and lots of books about everything you can imagine when I was younger. And because of that, I guess it made me wanna travel." She grinned. "That's how I was able to draw that map earlier. I read a huge topography book of my..." She trailed, her smile faded. "Yeah i just used to study it." "You seem like the type to get lost in all types of books." Zara tried to bring Shadow's spirits back up. "Yeah I enjoy gathering intelligence information. I remember things in books almost instantly. I guess I just always had a knack for it." Shadow started stabbing the ground again. "Yeah. That's another talent in our favor." Zara sat up. " I dunno. Geez, if I couldn't be a ninja, I'd maybe travel too. Track things and whatnot..." She trailed. "No way in hell imma let that man fail me." Shadow bounded up as well, with new found determination. "I don't intend to let anyone get the best of me. Ever!" "Not in a million years!" Jin agreed, and the three nodded before continuing on. |

((I'm going to be lazy here and make this as short as possible lol)) It was dusk, and the three had just arrived at the base of the mountain. Zara decided to go scout out the area almost immediately, wasting no time to rest. She had apparently taken a soldier pill along the way to keep her energy up. Jin and Shadow, on the other hand, were completely exhausted. They sat against the flat face of a rather large boulder right at the bottom of a slope near the mountain.Jin was fighting to remain conscious. His head leaned from side to side, a dazed look on his eyes. Never had he had to run and jump so much in his life. He turned to Shadow who seemed almost equally tired as he. "Some first day this was eh?" "Yeah...some day..." They both sighed. "Think Zara and Tala will find what we're looking for before it's fully night?" Jin's head hung low. "Dunno. I hope so because that would mean we could get a bit of rest through the night if we obtain the first item this early." "That..would be..nice..." Jin toppled over side ways, completely asleep. ---- On the mountain, Zara and Tala scrounged every nook and cranny, trying to find the source of the scent they were tracking. It lead them further and further up the mountain until they were almost at it's peak. Then they spotted it. A pale blue flower, about the size of her fist, dangled off the cliff side. Around it's stem, a familiar black cloth. She was so happy and shocked by the thing that she almost rushed over to grab it, but something told her not to. Instead she walked up to it and peered down over the ledge. Below the flower was a massive bird's nest. Some 20ft in diameter. There was a cluster of eggs with the nest, all a light tan and very ovular. Zara brought her eyes from the nest, and looked towards the sky, it was clear. "Big eggs means big birds...big protective bird parents..." Zara looked down at her canine companion who seemed to be shaking nervously. "Something wrong?" She knelt down and rubbed the small dog's head. Tala was still shaking. "It's fine, the parents aren't around so all I have to do is go up and...." She was cut off by an ear shattering screech. Then a second one. She felt powerful gusts of wind suddenly beating her back. She looked up to see what seemed to be two giant, brown falcons descending upon her. In a panic, she picked up Tala and sprinted down the mountain, not bothering to look back. She arrived back at where she had left Shadow and Jin in a little less than an hour. She was panting and out of breath. She walked over to the two and collapsed backwards. "Big birds...big ones...guarding the prize..." |

Jin glanced at Shadow. She was instantly by Zara’s side, checking her pulse. They heard an ear piercing screech coming closer. Jin surged up into a tree, surveying the soon to be dark sky. “Jin, down!” Shadow yelled suddenly. He jumped down just as one of the falcons flew over head, stirring up a massive gust of wind. The tree Jin had just been perched on snapped and crashed to the ground beside him. Quickly Shadow covered Zara, making sure the fragment debris didn’t bother her. “That was close.” Jin glanced at the bird seriously. “Why didn’t we see this earlier? Birds that big have to leave signs of their scavenging.” He looked around as to find an example. “We have been so determined to get to our destination that we have forgotten to analyze our surroundings.” Shadow admits as she lays Zara and Tala down side by side. “She okay?” Jin asks. “She is just exhausted.” Shadow reports. Jin offers her another soldier pill, but Shadow refuses. “You can only tax the body so far. Right now she just needs to rest.” Shadow sits up, eyeing Jin. “What now?” “Guess we’ll have to wait till Zara wakes up. We can tackle the birds then.” “No.” Shadow looks up at the sky. “We’ve already lost enough time. It’s almost the end of day one and the object is not in our possession. We need to get it now.” “I told you splitting up was a bad idea.” Jin points to Zara. “Look what happened. We should have been there.” “No matter now. We need to complete this objective or her efforts will be in vain.” Shadow pleads. “We should at least scope it out.” “But Zara…” Jin protests. “It’s okay. Tala will protect her. Right girl?” Tala barks in agreement and hovers over Zara protectively. “I don’t know…” Jin mumbles. “Come on. We have an advantage. We can communicate at any range and cover more ground.” Shadow pleads. “We need to do this. We need to pass.” Jin moans slightly and nods in approval. “But if it is too much, we go back. Zara wouldn’t run away unless it was something intense.” “I’m not afraid of any big birds.” Shadow looks up in the sky. “Look, there it goes. We gotta follow it!” Shadow darts through the trees after the falcon. “Shadow!” Jin calls after her. “We’ll be back Tala.” Jin nods as he darts after Shadow. They quickly reach the nest, the two giant falcons roosting. Shadow and Jin gasp in awe, hidden in the trees. “They look bigger in person…” Shadow admits. “I can see the flower.” She eyes Jin. “Do you think you could jump up and get it?” “Sure, I’ll just jump on the two big birds and swiftly grab that flower. Now is that before or after I am clawed to death?” “Look, don’t worry about the birds, just wait for the signal.” “Signal? What signal?” before he got an answer, Shadow disappeared from his sight. Get ready (Wait what?) Jin thought. Suddenly he was hit with an epiphany. (Shadow! Don’t you dare!) Now! Shadow screamed in her head. Jin watched an awe as Shadow sprinted to the nest and wrapped her arms around one of the giant eggs. Sticking her tongue out at the surprised and alarmed parents, she quickly began darting through the trees carring it over her head . “Hurry Jin!” her screams became distant. The two birds flap their wings easily, unbalancing Jin slightly as they violently chase Shadow. “Damn.” Jin complains, quickly climbing to the peak, grasping the flower. He attempts to pull out it from the stem. It stays latched to the ground. “Damn it come on!” he gives it another hard pull, falling backwards into the nest making a huge cracking sound. “Got it!” he lifts the flower into the air in triumph. Suddenly there is another loud cracking sound and Jin realizes the three remaining eggs are shaking violently. “Oh damn.” Jin quickly pockets the flower and stumbles towards the edge of the nest just as three ragged scruffy birds peak out the eggs. They shriek shrilly into the air. “This cannot be good” Jin feels the air stir around him and an ear piercing cry fills the night. “One of them is coming back!” Jin rolls over the edge and starts to dash away, but is pummeled to the ground my wind impact. Both the falcons circle over him, Shadow struggling in one of their talons. “Um Jin?” Shadow calls in distress. “Yeah?” Jin responds, “Do we fail if I get eaten alive?” “Yup.” “Then I can use a little help!” She shouts, still trying to stab the bird with a kunai. |

"Ahh I got you!" Jin retrieved three kunai from his pouch and promptly threw one into the eye of the falcon that had captured Shadow. It recoiled in pain as the kunai embedded itself with its eye and dropped Shadow. The other falcon attempted to dive for the now falling Shadow, but its head was met with a swift kick from Jin, which knocked it off balance and it swerved leftward into a tree. Shadow landed on the ground with a slight thud, then threw her kunai into the wing of the falcon Jin had just attacked. She turned to Jin, panting. "Thanks for looking out, Jin." "No problem." He placed the two remaining kunai back into his pouch. "Now...I don't want to kill these things. They have a family and we're the ones who started this mess. Soo...we're going to have to knock out that one." He said, pointing at the falcon now struggling within the tree. "I got it." Shadow dashed forward and leapt up into the tree. She hopped from branch to branch and delivered a powerful kick to the falcon's neck. The bird was knocked out of the tree, dazed, and faltered in the air. Jin followed up after Shadow and leapt off of a high branch, getting above the falcon, and bring his heel down upon the bird's head. It plummeted to the ground and created a shockwave that created a large plume of dust. Jin landed some feet away from it and Shadow joined his side. He observed the bird, it made no sign of movement, but it was clearly breathing. The other falcon, whom he had impaled in the eye, had perched itself somewhere on the mountain out of sight, apparently trying to nurse it's wound. Jin sighed and turned to Shadow, the side of her leg had a giant slash on it from where the talons had shredded the clothing. He was glad that was the only thing that was damaged. "So we did it right? You've got the thing?" "That I do." She said waving the flower in front of her. "One down, two to go huh?" "Yeah two to go..." He stretched his arms above his head and yawned heavily. "I guess we should get back to Tala and Zara now." "Right." Just before Shadow was about to dash off, Jin grabbed her arm. She turned back to look at him, giving him a confused look. "Wait...." He said letting go of her arm. "Let's...walk instead." "Oh..okay...is there a problem?" She cocked her head to one side. "Umm no not really...I just wanted to..." He chose to communicate with her through his mind rather than his actual voice. Wanted to what? She responded. " No never mind...gahhh can't say...must put out of mind...crap she can hear this too...forgot..fehhh Jin sighed and scratched the back of his head, trying to make his mind blank."You know what, don't worry about it...it's nothing. Really." "Umm okay then..." She had a confused yet curious look on her face, with one eyebrow raised. --- They made it back to Zara and Tala's position and found that Zara had regained consciousness. She had Tala resting in her lap. A dignified look crept onto her face. "So, I take it from those screeches that you guys won?" Edited by Des, Jan 25 2009, 04:25 AM.

Shadow smiled and nodded, holding up the flower to Zara. "Indeed we did." Shadow let Zara hold it for a while. "One down two to go." Jin rested his hands on his head. "Don't relax now. Judging by Shadow's apearance, it was no easy task." Zara observed Shadow's torn pant leg. "I bet it only gets harder from here." "Well we don't even know where to start looking for the next item." Jin moaned slightly. "But I guess we should rest up and regain some energy. We can search again at sunrise. Fair enough?" Jin looked at Shadow, rubbing her right sholder. "Are your wounds deep?" "Not at all." Shadow smiled pleasently. "Just a surface wound. It should be a scab by morning." (I get the feeling you are full of bullshit.) Jin accused. I am fine. Shadow seemed stern on this. I just need rest. "Well you two can sleep, Tala and I will stay up and keep watch." Zara offered. "You have a few more hours before daylight. "Actually, first I wanna clean my wounds." Shadow pointed in the moonlight. "I saw a small brook and waterfall as i was running from the falcon. I think I'll clean it there." Shadow turned to Jin sternly. "Zara, make sure Jin stays here." "What's that supposed to mean huh?" Jin complained as Shadow darted off. "Well I don't blame her. I wouldn't want you sneaking a peak at me either." Zara crouched on her heals to rest. "I wouldn't do that!" Jin defended. "It's jsut that after all that happened today, we know splitting up is always a bad idea. If Shadow hadn't a run off and detracted those birds, she wouldn't be hurt." "Well true, but we would be behind too. She is brave." "No, she is careless." Jin snorted. "I see." Zara chuckled. "Someone is getting over protective." "What! Why? NO!" Jin turned away. "I just am concerned, as a teammate and all." "Really? Is that all." Zara's eyes became devious. "Because you should be even more concerned now. What will she do if the falcons come back? She is wounded, and by the look of her she barely escaped the first time." Zara moans. "Guess we would fail..." Jin looks over to where Shadow darted. Don't think about it Jin! Shadow warned. She was still in close enough range to pick up his thoughts. "Then i won't think about it. I'll clear my mind!" Jin said suddenly, darting out into the night. "wait... stop...no... don't..." Zara said apathetically, a grin plastered on her face. "those two are so amusing." -- Jin crept swiftly, only thinking about moving his feet. (right left right left right) When he came upon the stream, Shadow was standing under the waterfall in meditation. Jin concentrated on her thoughts. It was close. I'm glad it was my pants leg and not the shirt that ripped. The talon almost scratched it. Jin noticed suddenly that Shadow stood topless with her back to him. Quickly he tried to calm himself down. If she figured out he was there, she would kill him.Slowly She started to back away from the waterfall, an Jin gasped at bit involuntarily at what he saw. "You never learn." Shadow hissed angrily. "You just always have to be so curious." she covered her front, and continued to make her way backwards. "Well, come on, take a good look." Jin timidly surfaced from his hiding place. Slowly, he walked into the cold water, shivering slightly as he made his way to Shadow. On her back was the kanji for Shadow. The three strokes on the right wrapped all the way around her stomach and back around to left side, connecting the Kanji like a cage. "A... tattoo?" Jin asked timidly. "I wish..." Shadow sighed. "It is a seal. My adoptive grandfather created it for me..." Shadow closed her eyes and breathed deeply. "It was the only way he could stop me that night. Not that it mattered." She digs her fingernails into her arm. "Only he and his wife were spared." "So... something is inside of you?" Jin confirmed. "Back then, when the seal was fresh, there used to be a silhouette of some creature. But it is suppressed in the seal, for now. If it tries to rise from me, it's silhouette will return. Eventually it would escape the cage, that is to say, break the seal..." "Then what happens?" Jin asks. "At that time, either I am a skilled enough ninja to contain it myself... or someone offs me." "Shadow..." Jin trails. "I know my limits Jin. I figured out a long time ago I would have to make a decision, and I chose to try to control it. If that doesn't work... plan B." Jin didn't respond. Gently, he traced the mark with his fingers. The thoughts he read in Shadow's head caused him to stop. "You can't be serious." Jin stepped back angrily. "It doesn't have to be you." Shadow shrugged. " Your father would be more than happy to..." "Why... no... how can you think about it like it! Your so casual about it!." Jin stared to yell. "Jin, lets me be completely honest with you, I've wanted to die for a long time now. Ever since that night..." "But it's one thing having my dad tell me this, but your entertaining the thought as well." "It's not that serious..." "Your asking me to KILL you!" Jin screamed. All at once the world seemed to stop. Only the sound of his angry breathing remained. A disgusted look stained his face. "... Don't be so dramatic." Shadow turned her head to face him. "It doesn't matter if i exist or not." "What!" the words seemed to pain Jin. Angrily, he sped back to the camp, leaving Shadow behind. As he approached Zara, wet and angry, she smirked. "So... did she hurt you?" She chuckled. "Shut up." he said coldly, closing his eyes to rest and leaving Zara confused. Shadow had hurt him indeed. More than anyone would ever know. -- As the sun rose, Jin and Shadow said nothing to one another. Even in their minds seemed clear. Zara looked confused at the both of them. "You two have a fight?" Zara asked. "Not at all." Shadow answered quickly. "Just tired is all." "Speak for yourself." Jin grumbled. Suddenly Tala bit his leg again. "Why does she keep doing that!" he screamed angrily. "You keep saying things she doesn't like, I suppose." Zara giggled. "Anyway, I was observing the flower we retrieved, and I noticed something interesting. I could catch a trace scent of the pollen from this flower in the air. Where there is pollen, there are bees, and where there are bees..." "There is honey." Shadow finished. "Lets go then. Lead on Zara." Zara and Tala dart out. Shadow looks at Jin sternly. I won't apologize. I am not sorry. She thought. (I know...) Jin quickly sprinted after Zara. (I'm the sorry one...) |

Jin was saddened and angered by what he had experienced the previous night. He took a quick glance at Shadow and sighed, lowering his head. "We should get a move on..." He raised his head slightly, looking forward in the direction Zara and Tala had left in, with a placid look on his face. "Yeah, we should." Shadow's voice did not waver in the least. She quickly followed after Zara, leaving Jin standing there, alone. He closed his eyes and clenched his fists tightly. He clenched them so hard that his palms began to bleed. It wasn't fair...not fair at all. He stood there quite a while, his hands bleeding, before deciding to follow after his teammates. It didn't take him long to catch up with them, and when he had, Zara turned around to look back at him. "What was that about ehh? Something wrong?" She looked down at his hands and noticed that they were bloodied quite bad, but she chose not to say anything about it. "No..it's nothing. Don't worry about it. You just need to concentrate on locating the next item." He looked away from Zara, trying to avoid her gaze. Zara furrowed her brows and turned her head back around. "Wonder what happened between those two last night..." Zara thought to herself. Of course Shadow heard it and sighed. They continued on for quite a while in silence. Tala whimpered. The scene was a bit depressing. |

They traveled further in silence. Suddenly, they all stopped in unison. In front of them was a wide canyon. It circled around a huge mountain and seemed to fall into infinite darkness. Shadow kicked a rock over the side, waiting to hear it impact the ground. It never did. The three stared at each other. "... It's too far to jump." Zara said finally, breaking the silence. "... Maybe we could build a bridge?" Jin suggested. "A simple catapult would be easier." Shadow corrected, but Jin ignored her. "I think Shadow's idea is reasonable, but what if it doesn't far enough?" "Maybe we could lasso a falcon, get it to fly us over. It was strong enough to carry Shadow's big butt." Jin says bitterly. Shadow ignored the insult and continued observing the crevas. "Well we have to do something, going back would make us loose a day and we don't even know how long it will take us when me reach the top of the mountain!" Zara complained. "Well do you want us to sprout wings and fly." Jin started to get irritated. "Jin..." Shadow started. "Not now!" Jin continued arguing with Zara. "Jin if you just listen to me." "Shadow, we already agreed your idea won't work!" Jin added one final blow."You think you have good ideas and plans, but you just don't." "Now wait a second!" Zara defended. "I don't know what happened last night, and I don't care. This is squad time. Leave that other is out of it!" "Mind your business!" Jin yelled. "You two are my business!" Zara yelled with Tala barking at her heals. "If you are both done..." Shadow stood up on a rock. " I'd like to make an announcement." "... yes?" Zara looked confused and Jin looked annoyed. "Our troubles are over, or at least mine are. No longer must we toil and argue. I've found my solution." and with that, Shadow stretched her arms to her sides and let herself fall backwards. "What!" Jin lunged forward suddenly, trying to grab her. "Shadow!" Jin found himself leaping into the air after her plummeting body. With a loud thud, Jin felt dazed and confused. "I knew it!" Shadow boasted. She was laying on her back in the manner she had fallen, Jin lay atop her. " You can get off now. I was trying to tell you it was mere genjutsu, but you were too distracted and pissy to listen." "You mean it was in out minds?" Zara leans over to see that the indentation is only a foot deep. "Well damn it all..." "You see the never ending pit was impressive, but not at all believable. I just got the theory and went with it. No big." Jin scrambled up angrily. "Didn't expect him to go after me." She shrugged, carelessly. "...you..." Jin pointed sternly at Shadow. "Calm down, it was mere jutsu, not real." "Just cause you say it's not real doesn't make it separate from reality. I thought you were gonna die!" "But I didn't... not yet." She chuckled. " Nobody told you to jump after me. It was your choice..." Shadow yawned. " Besides my sore back, we can continue..." "If you are so ungrateful for life, maybe you really don't deserve it!" Jin yelled finally, darting further toward the mountain. Zara and Shadow stared at each other. Finally, Shadow sighed. "I'll go talk to him." She promised. "Give us a while." Shadow pleaed with Zara" "Sure, if you tell me about last night." Zara bargained. "... I cut him really deep." She admitted, running after him. -- Jin waited for Shadow angrily, trying to figure out why he jumped. For all he knew, he would have died too, but it was involuntary, almost instinct. Shadow stood beside him, arms crossed. "We need to talk." She giggled, carefree. "Good. I talk you listen." Jin suddenly took on his fathers sternness, and Shadow froze, ready to hear an earful. |

Before anything else was said, Jin took a few moments to try and piece together what he wanted to say and how exactly to say it while Shadow stood by patiently. He opened his mouth as to say something but closed it right afterward, still trying to figure out what he wanted to say. He gave up and sighed and decided to just say what he felt. "Look...yesterday after I found out about what you...wanted me to do in the future...I didn't know what to think. I was pissed that you would even consider having me...kill you and I was also pissed that you made it sound like your life was just something you could throw away so easily..." Shadow just stood and silently listened. "You should value your life, you know? You've only got one, and to throw it away like that...it's just wrong." "But it's my life, and it would be better if it was gone." Shadow plainly replied. "You think I don't realize that? I know it's your life but...you can't do that!" "I can and I will, Jin. And you know what else? You can't stop me. Speaking of which, why'd you jump before." "I....I told you already. I thought you were going to die, alright." "So you would save the life of basically a stranger at the risk of your own...how noble of you." "That's not...look...Yes I would try to save the life of a stranger at the risk of my own life but it's different with you..." "How is it any different? Why, because I'm your squad mate? Didn't they teach you back at the academy that the only thing that matters is the completion of the mission?" Jin stood there in silence, looking at Shadow with hurting eyes. "Gahh you're so unreasonable you know that?! Look the reason why I jumped was because...because..." "Because what, Jin?" "I...In the short amount of time I've known you...I've...I've seen in you a girl that has been through so much and deserves a better life...."With each pause he took a breath."And I...I care about you...I want to save you from that engulfing darkness that lies within..." He had no clue what he was saying. Maybe it wasn't even him saying it. Maybe it was his heart. He didn't know. He just knew it needed to be said. After he had finished, he turned his back to Shadow, unable to look meet her gaze any longer. |

Shadow moaned slightly. Jin… She thought. Her tone was annoyed, as if talking to a child. Did it ever cross your mind that perhaps I meant for this to happen much farther in the future? I don’t want you to off me tomorrow; I’m just saying if things get out of hand I trust you to be someone who can… take care of me. I trust you enough to ask you to take my life. (That… is so…. Twisted…) Jin responded. He could tell his words weren’t reaching her the way he intended. And about caring about me. Maybe you should just care about yourself. Her harsh words were a deep blow to Jin’s heart. I don’t mean to be rude, but you and I are on a strictly professional level of interaction. I told you before, you are like my rival. And furthermore, I don’t… “Say it!” Jin said suddenly. “If you really mean that than say it to me, don’t just think about it.” “Fine.” Shadow agreed without batting an eyelash. “Jin, I think you are being childish, irrational, immature, and …” Suddenly, her arms were around his waist. She spun him around quickly, and her body seemed to lunge forward slightly. She stopped talking and her head was buried deeply in his chest, her arms locked tightly around his waist. Jin stood shocked for a second at her suddenly change in emotions. They stood still. “Shadow..” He started. “Shadow?” Jin felt something warm sticking to his arm. When he glanced behind Shadow, he saw a bee the size of Tala anchored into her back. “SHADOW!” Jin pried off Shadow’s arms and pulled out the bee, crushing it in his palm. Shadow fell to her knees, her mouth open slightly. The wound stopped bleeding, but began to swell. “No… Jin… My seal…” Shadow groaned before falling unconscious. Jin quickly was at Shadow’s side, lifting the back of her shirt just enough to see the wound pulsing. The sore was the size of a baseball and right in the middle of her seal.. Jin… Shadow’s thoughts could still be heard. The venom, it’s poisoned me. I cannot move. You have to suck the poison out before it stops my heart. Jin nodded, and quickly began to remove the venom. Hurry, you can’t let Zara and Tala see the seal. Keep going until the blood tastes clean. Jin continued for a few seconds. They felt like hours upon hours to him. When his sore lips felt as though they could do no more, he spit out the blood, wiping his lips fearfully. “Is it better?” He asked. Some of the poison is still in my bloodstream, but you’ve bought me time. Shadow thought. I think I’ve read about these types of bees before, thought I’ve never seen one quite so big. If these are the same as the ones I’ve read, then we need to get our objective even faster. The hormones these bees use for their honey can act as an antidote to the venom. You and Zara will have to go it alone though. And don’t get stung! “NO way!” Jin refused. “What if another bee comes by. You’d be stung to death. I’m not going to let you die so easy.” Jin began to lift Shadow, carrying her on his back. “Zara and I are going to save you. You are going to live whether you want to or not.” Jin, you are so immature. Shadow seemed more annoyed. You misunderstand me. I don’t want to die NOW. Only if I get out of hand. I intend to grow as a ninja first before I just give up! I’ve got reasons for living. Jin didn’t respond, he just continued carrying Shadow on his back. “Zara will catch up soon. Then we can go faster,” Jin said coldly, then his face seemed to lighten. “Hey Shadow…. Why did you do it?” Do what? “You were just on my back about jumping after you, you could a just pushed me outta the way, or hit the bee…” Just consider it payment for you saving me yesterday. From the falcon…” “Nope, I just helped you out. You took a vital blow for me.” Jin smirked and was glad Shadow couldn’t see his face. It’s not like that Jin. Shadow protested. My body just moved. I can’t really explain it. I guess I wanted to protect you…her mind seemed to fade. She was trying to block her thoughts from him. Jin, keep your mind on the objective! If we don’t get that honey, then you and Zara fail and I might never wake up. Jin! “Right.” Jin replied, but had a smile in his face that he was proud of. |
