Mission Assignment

The young boy sat silently in a large, open room in his home. It was a makeshift dojo that his father had built within his home. The man had always been a supporter of kenjutsu and swordsmanship and wanted his son to learn everything about wielding a traditional sword. However, he was constantly busy and had little time to teach his son the basics techniques, such as the proper way to hold a sword.

Tako, a newly promoted genin, waited patiently for his teacher to arrive. It was his understanding that his training partner was also a genin, though he had more experience in both being a shinobi and using kenjutsu. Hopefully, this training session wouldn't be too much of a bother.

Another day start as usual, Yoshi is assigned with a mission, this time something that his swordsmanship will come in handy. He head to the boy house, whom was the child that Yoshi will train for a day. His Father is a renowned kenjutsu master in Suna, being a friend to Yoshi father he knows about Yoshi and such… and he was happy when he knew that his son will be train by him… which makes Yoshi a little bit nervous about it.

He arrives at the boy house; greet the old man before proceeding training the boy. “Mornin!” Yoshi said as he bow to the young boy. “Before we start, could you tell me your name? Mine is Morikawa Yoshiro” he started the training with a friendly introduction, something that he learn from the way his Father teach him back when he was a kid.

The boy was less than friendly when his temporary teacher arrived. Initially, he didn't stand or turn his head or acknowledge the genin in any way. Only when the genin bowed to him did the boy bother to look up.

"Hideaki." His answer was cold and terse, and he didn't indicate that he was going to say anything else. He remained seated, waiting for Yoshiro to start.

The boy answer was cold and hard, it seems like this child is not a friendly one. He sat calmly still with his cold face as he wait for Yoshi to start the training. " Okay then let start the training! We will start with the basic, which is stances" Yoshi explain to his student for the day.

"Grab your wooden sword and let see your stances, Hideaki!" Yoshi said as he threw the wooden sword to him and stand firmly in front of him, looking more serious than ever...

Hideaki was not at all prepared for the wooden practice sword that was thrown his way. In fact, he was making a point not to look at his trainer at all. He only looked up when the other boy's tone became more excited and looked up just in time to see the wooden stick flying towards him. With a loud clunk, the wooden stick hit him square on the forehead.

After the practice sword hit him, the boy fell to the side and to the floor, stars dancing before his face. Hideaki's mouth was comically frozen in a surprised O, and he seemed like he was was giving a high-pitched moan. "Oww..."

Yoshi gasped as the wooden sword hits Hideaki forehead hard enough to make him fell back to the floor. This boy really need some practice with reaction and such... The boy moan in pain, but one think he learn from his father,is not to show pity to the one he train.

"Get up! One hit cant kill ya!" Yoshi yelled something that his Father always says to him when he train him... "You should be more careful next time, if i throw you a real sword... You'll. Probably be dead by now he motivate the boy even more and start the training again from beginning

"I'm sorry," Hideaki said softly as he stood up, rubbing his head as he did, "I'm still new to this and want to learn, so please teach me. I'll try to be more careful from here on out," A task which might be easier said than done. Yoshi could continue with his lesson, though a quick reaction drill might do the boy some good.

Yoshi smile as the boy stood up and apologize, saying that he will be more careful next time. “Alright then, since you lack in reaction speed and such… im gonna train you that first” Yoshi said as he pick up Hideaki wooden sword. “You need to be focus… focused in every movement your opponent does” strengthening his stances, Yoshi explain “And if he attack, you anticipate!” Yoshi added as he throw Hideaki wooden sword again towards him, this time maybe he will catch it…

The young man listened attentively as Yoshi spoke to him. To watch the foe and his movements, to read them in a sense and somehow anticipate the next move. It all seemed so far off to him, but he most certainly had to try. Then, the wooden sword flew at him once more. This time, he was able to successfully catch it right before it hit him. He smiled, as he adjusted the bokken in his hands and held it out, ready for whatever came next.

"Good Job!" Yoshi applaud to Hideaki as he manage to catch the wooden sword thrown at him. He quickly prepare his stances and said: "Second, strengthen your stances, even the slightest hole can cause you your live". Yoshi stumbled as he leaps to Hideaki side, trying to attack him with a quick sweep to his foot. Let see how the boy react...

Now it came down to strengthening his stance. How would he do such a thing? He did not have much time to think things through and had to go with the flow. With a slight bend of the knees and spreading his feet about half a foot wider, he braced his sword for impact, hoping his stance would be enough to support him. As the two swords connected, he felt a wobbly, but otherwise good. He looked on at Yoshi to see if he could tell him if his stance was good or not.

Yoshi was impressed to see Hideaki manage to block the attack without knocking his self down. He wobble a little as he block the attack, something is wrong with his stances. “Good… But its not good enough” Yoshi muttered as he push forward, pushing the two sword that was clashing and knock Hideaki down. “You lack in balance and strength, if your enemy pushes you when your sword and him clashes… There are only two solutions.” Yoshi said, pausing to take a breath and continues “First, If you stronger than your enemy, pushes back” he explain… “Second, if your enemy stronger than you… move to the side and they will fell. Then, attack them again”

"Move to the side..." That part stuck with the boy in particular. Given his size, it was more than likely that any opponent would be larger than him, at least until he grew up. Still, for the moment, he had to adjust and stepping aside sounded like a good option for him.

"So, I should evade the move, dodge, and then unleash a counter attack? All at once??" He questioned. It may sound simple to the experienced shinobi, but to him, it sounded a bit ridiculous. Yoshi may need to guide him through this one so he could better understand.

The boy seems confused about Yoshi statement, asking about what to do. It may sound easy for a shinobi like Yoshi, but for a little boy like him, its impossible. Seems like Yoshi has to teach him the basic first before teaching him the whole thing. “Evading the move is pretty simple… dodging it is not. To dodge an attack, you must know what the enemy is aiming the attack at… and then anticipate it by dodging it. he explains briefly.

“When you manage to avoid it, you can choose either to counter attack or flee into safety” Yoshi continues as he eyed the boy seriously. “If you choose to counter attack, search for an opening when the enemy is defenseless. And if you want to flee, easily leap back from the enemy and strengthened your stance again… Understood?” Yoshi glared at the boy with a serious look.

[[ Never realized you posted, sorry. Just PM me and nag me to post next time. ]]

The boy listened to the experienced shinobi as he gave him his advice. The first step was to dodge, which wasn't all that easy in itself. Afterwards came the choice. He could either duck away to safety, or choose to counter attack. However, to do that, he had to look for an opening and then make his move.

"I think I got it," He finally replied, "Let me try them out though," It was the only way to know for sure if he really understood. He got into a ready stance, waiting for Yoshi to attack him.

The boy finally understand what Yoshi said and want to test what he just learn, preparing his stance as he ask Yoshi to attack him. Yoshi smile a little hearing the boy say this, and said: "Im gonna go easy first then" he strengthened his stances and charge forward attacking the boy.

Let see how he will react this time...

The boy watched as Yoshi advanced towards. He could do this. Keeping an eye out, he seized the moment and dodged the incoming attack by moving to his right. From here, he attempted to counter attack. He did so by moving his weapon upward a little and then horizontally across from the right to left. He had chosen to evade and counter, favoring this style of swordsmanship over simply dodging and backing off to regroup. Perhaps the shinobi could help him expand a bit more before their time together was over.

Hideaki manages to dodge and counter attack as Yoshi rushes to him, a big improvement. The time he is given to train the boy was not enough... he need to find another way so that he will learn more before the end of the day.

"Your skill has improve... since we ain't got all day, how about a sparring?" Yoshi asked as he prepare his stance and smile.

"Uh... sure," Hideaki was a bit skeptical about sparring him. He was barely getting the hang of things and his opponent was much more skilled than he was. He wanted to request he go easy on him, but it may make him sound like a wimp and more importantly, he wouldn't be able to truly test himself. Instead, he chose to remain quiet and see where this would lead them to. He too got into a ready stance, grasping the sword with both hands.

Hideaki seems scared as Yoshi ask him for a spar, especially if he fight a more skilled opponent then him. "Dont worry... Since this is your first spar, im not gonna attack you, i want to see how you act in a fight"

Yoshi glared at the boy as he approach him and smiles again, "Now.. let see what you got" he crooned...

The words spoken to him by the more experienced fighter served to calm Hideaki down a bit. At least he would live to see another day... Since his sparring partner said he wasn't going to attack, it meant that the young man would need to make the first move. He advanced towards Yoshi, sword held with both hands. When he got close enough, he raised it up to chest level and went for a horizontal slash, from left to right.

Hideaki moves to attack Yoshi with a horizontal slash from left to right, aiming at Yoshi chest. The boy surely have some speed alright, but he lack in accuracy and strength. Shown as Yoshi easily avoid it by leaping backward and perform a defensive stance to prevent another attack that the boy had.

"You have some speed, but you dont have enough strength and accuracy... focus!' Yoshi yelled as he stand firmly in his stance...

Hideaki grunted as his attack missed. He was sure he would've been able to strike him with the speed he was using. That was it though, that was all he was using. Yoshi saw this and pointed it out to him. He needed to focus and concentrate each swing. There was only speed behind his attack, not much power and even less accuracy. No point in throwing around a high speed attack if it'll never connect. Advancing forward, Hideaki raised the sword above his head and brought it down vertically, straight down the middle. This time though, he slowed his attack down a bit more and made sure to aim directly at Yoshi, the attack threatening to cut him in half.

Hideaki advances forward and does a vertical slash directly at Yoshi, he slowed down his speed and focuses on strength and accuracy. Even though he can just avoid it by jumping backward, but Yoshi decided to block it and tries to impale him backward as their sword connects. Let see if the boy learn something from what Yoshi told him about clashing...

The two swords collide and clash with a thud. Hideaki isn't as strong as Yoshi, so he had to figure something out right away or he would be overpowered. Stepping to the side, he pulled his sword back slightly. If Yoshi was pushing with his weapon, this may make the sword slide off of Hideaki's and possibly make him trip forward. The move was pretty good, but he still lacked experienced as he could not follow it up properly afterwards.

Knowing that he isn't strong enough to withstand the collision, he step to the side and pulls out his sword slightly to dodge Yoshi swords. Yoshi stumbles forward as Hideaki dodge to the side, rolling forward and quickly stood up again and strengthened his defenses to prevent any incoming attack.

"Nice techniques... Remember that you can attack after dodging"

Hideaki knew he could attack. The thing was, it was harder than it seemed. Transitioning from defense to offense was a concept he still hadn't fully grasped. Still, he needed to work on it and try it out. With a nod, he advanced again and swung his sword diagonally down from right to left, aiming at Yoshi's left side. He was sure the experienced shinobi would outmaneuver him somehow, but his concern was to block the next move and unleash one of his own right after. Attack after defending, he needed to get it right before the session was over and he was going to try it on Yoshi's next strike.

Yoshi watches as Hideaki launches another attack, this time a horizontal slash from right to left, probably aiming Yoshi left side. With a swift moves, he avoid the attack by jumping backward. He have some good attack, but he can do better than attacking madly like that...

Hideaki wasn't about to let up just like that. His sword had swung over to the left, so when he saw
Yoshi step back, he stopped. Turning the sword over, he stepped forward and aimed to bring the sword back around from left to right this time. It was a pretty simple move, but it would still prove to be effective. It was beginning to get late, it was time to wrap things up. One last swing, one last lesson.

Yoshi was surprise as he sees sees the incoming wooden sword coming at him with great speed. Hideaki turns out manages to fool Yoshi with a good transition from left to the right, it was a sign that Hideaki finally learn something from this. Yoshi decided not to block the attack nor avoid it, instead he let the wooden sword hit his left shoulder and pretend that he cant avoid that hit.

"Welp, you got me this time, turns out your have a good skill on Kenjutsu" Yoshi said, dusting himself as he stand firmly again..
